It gets rather hot, but it doesnt really effect it. I change it every 2 drift days.

i use royal purple 20w / 50w but my car leaks to the shit so i just use whatever a servo has untill i pull my motor out cause RP costs to much to keep topping up

sprinterman86 will always over any oil recommend mobil1 full sin 10/30 or thinner nothing else

imo its best to have a leak in your sump because as long as you check your levels and keep topping it up you alwase have new oil in there my engine takes a flogging as a drift/weekend car and its looks brand new on the inside btw i have a 4age bigport fairly stock

If you really want to see how your oil is performing. Drop down to a CAV/Caterpiller dealership and ask for an SOS kit, it will cost around $50, next time you drain your oil take a sample back to them, they will analyse(this is included in the initial cost) and will give you a full run down on metals etc found in the oil.

They use this to determine oil change intervals and any wear in the engines/gearboxes etc on their product.

even if you only do it once for the novelty aspect, you will be amazed at the information they give you.

yeah i dont really understand the type of oils, but from what everyone has been saying, they all sound like thin oils...

isnt thin oil like bad for old non rebuilt engines?...

26th January 2009, 06:48 PM
oils have ratings for a reason the way i see it and i was explained to by sprinterman is that for eg 15-30 is a fairly thin oil compared to 20-50 witch is a thick oil used for motors with minor knocking noises as the engine wares over time you have growing gaps in bearings witch is where the thicker oils come in on a new motor i would use 0-15 Mobil 1 then at about 100,00 id go a little thicker 15-30 royal purple then at about 200,000 id go for 20-50 royal purple but it comes down to how you treat you engine and what you do with it

Mobil 1 doesn't come in 0-15
Royal purple doesn't come in 15-30 (I use 10W-40 in a bt...no problems)
which not witch.

Oils ratings to my understanding goes by the temperature at cold start and warmed engine....
E.g: 10w-40w would mean the thickness when fully warmed is 10 where by the thickness on a cold start is 40...
(dont know how the weight works)
Some engines like to burn oil so a thicker oil is used to maintain oil pressure......
My 12at injects oil with the fuel mixture making it like a 2 stroke....
In which case i use HPR40.....
its very humid up here on the coast and even though 25-70w is thick,
if you let the car warm up a bit more before driving it pays off....
i run it in my rx7 and my oil pressure has never been better.....
im also using HPR15 in my 16valve at the moment but does loose a bit of pressure when HOT
Then again, i know people who use Golf Western on there SR and CA's on an oil change every 2000 and never had a problem......I think its like $12 for 4 liters:piggy:

Nulon 75W - 90 smooth shift and a tube of Nulon G70 (I think thats what its called, cant quite remember) for your W58, dont go ATF.
I use the above combo and it works a treat.......... cant speak from experience but redline (shockproof) is not really a great idea. Do some searching/research and I'm sure you will realise why..

Motul. Seriously. They specialize in bike motors that rev to 20,000rpm and the oil itself is designed and made in france. I put their chrono 300v competition 10w-40 in my panda ae86 and the 4age actually ran better, sounded smoother, and freed up revs on top. I now run it in my s14.

I'll just add that the motul 300v chrono competition grade oil is about 110 bucks for 5L and it's one of the only commercially available oil certified for use in jet propulsion engines

letsgohunting
7th February 2009, 09:30 PM
grade 1 - mineral
grade 2 - blended 'fake' sythetic with mineral (castrol magnatec fits in here)
grade 3 - better quality synthetic ( castrol edge and mobil1)
grade 4 - higher quality
grade V - jet grade 100%ester ( 300v and redline oils fit in here)

Those are the grades by which oil is measured. Motul 8100 is the best value for money oil, sitting around the grade4-5 area which is the highest blend. Royal Purple sits around the same level. Castrol edge, nulon etc etc say they are a full synthetic but they aren't really. Some of the redlines, some of the fuchs I believe, and the motul 300v are the only 100% ester synthetics around.

I have a can of this stuff (I collect oil in cans:S)

check the price for 1 quart(nearly a litre)

BTW the price is in US dollars!!!!

Item# Mobil Jet II
$261.12 per quart
Availability: Usually ships in 2-3 business days.
Product Description
Mobil Jet Oil II gas turbine lubricant is a combination of a highly stable synthetic base fluid and a unique chemical additive package. The combination provides outstanding thermal and oxidative stability to resist deterioration and deposit formation in both the liquid and vapor phases, as well as excellent resistance to foaming.

Application
Mobil Jet Oil II is recommended for aircraft gas turbine engines of the turbo-jet, turbo-fan, turbo-prop, and turbo-shaft (helicopter) types in commercial and military service. It also is recommended for aircraft-type gas turbine engines in industrial or marine application.

Mobil Jet Oil II is approved against U.S. Military Specification MIL-L-23699C (MIL-PRF-23699), as well as by the following engine and accessory manufacturers:

Engine Approvals
- Textron-Lycoming
- Allison Engine Co.
- General Electric Company
- Pratt & Whitney Group, United Technologies Corp.
- SNECMA
- Pratt & Whitney, Canada
- Rolls-Royce Limited
- Garrett Turbine Engine Co.

Accessory Approvals
- AiResearch - Auxiliary power units and air cycle machines
- Hamilton Standard Division, United Technologies Corp. - Starters
- Sundstrand Corp. - Constant-speed drives and integrated-drive generators
- Westinghouse Aerospace Electrical Division - Generators

Mobil Jet Oil II is compatible with other synthetic gas turbine lubricants meeting MIL-L-23699E. However, mixing with other products is not recommended because the blend would result in some loss of the performance characteristics of Mobil Jet Oil II. Mobil Jet Oil II is compatible with all metals used in gas turbine construction, as well as with F Rubber (Viton A), H Rubber (Buna N), and silicone seal materials.

Mobil Jet Oil II packaged in quart cans may be held safely in storage for 30 years.
