Thought i'd Do a Build thread on the "mrs" daily.......Soon to be slider project!

Bought this a few months back, with the intention of daily dutys before I bought the markII,started a Thread then....But it then turned into the MarkII tread....The Mrs addopted it back then and I put it on the Road for her after her 2001 kia rio shit it's self!

It's been copping mild mods since the day of rego....the first being chopped springs and a set of 14" rims.
She didn't like the way it bounced around after the chop,so I replaced the shocks and installed some 6kg AJPS springs, which stiffened it up heaps!

Other than that,it stayed basically stock, bar a few stickers and a Clark Rubber front Lip.

And thats how it's been since....Untill now!
Current Specs Are:
-Stock 2s and Auto
-6kg AJPS springs all round
-xt130 struts/brakes/LCA's
-KYB exel G short shocks all round
-14x6.5 +8 Sharak X1 rims....also a set of 14x6's aussie rims or some kind?
-Clark Rubber front lip
-s/wheel
-Tacho n shift light (laugh factor)

Mods To come: (comming soon)
-22re and 5 speed conversion!!
- AJPS Lock spacer/Traction brackers/Panhard
-Front Strut brace
-Tacho dash
-New bushes throughout
-rear spirit wing
-some 20-25mm spacers for the rear
-Lipped arches!

So I decided to part out my ke70 and keep the sussy gear for this! hehe
The corona's still in kinda stock form....so should be able to get some good progress shots.
Plans are to keep it mild and under the radar...with decent power and sussy to slide when i want to.....Daily by Day,Drifter By Night!
Probably take it to Winton too once it's done, possibly interstate for a weekend, just for fun!....Looking forward to that!!

That RT142 has an SR lip! Pics of rear? Wouldn't want to wreck it if it is, could be worth something to someone :P If not, dope lip anyway

Javal
3rd October 2009, 05:44 PM
Well, it's a good thing you have an RT142 to take everything from - that conversion is a CUNT.

All brake lines need to be changed
Brake master needs to be changed
Fuel lines need to be changed
Crossmember needs to be changed.

As well as all the usual stuff.
etc etc.

Joshie_Mcslide
3rd October 2009, 05:59 PM
Well i expected the cross member, and suspected maybe the fuel lines.....But why the brake stuff?

The Sr lip has just been put on that car....its more of a bitsa than mine will be!
Lip will be for sale soon.

So I put in My front sussy gear in today anyway!
Made a big diff in handling...doesnt feel like the front tyres are gunna roll off the rims anymore!
Slightly wider rims with better offset probably help too?
Pics after today:

So Javal...Have you dont this before then? Might hit ya up allong the way.....I'm planning to do it over a week anyway....maybe 2 if i take my time?

Cheers!

Yeah it'll be a week of hard slog.

Brake lines have to be changed because:

ST141 master has the outlet ports pointing out towards the motor, as such the brake lines foul on the 22R-E Intake manifold.

So you change to the RT142 master and lines to suit, then realize they don't line up with the bias block, so you put the RT142 bias block and RHF + LHF lines in, then realize the brake line to the back doesn't line up, so you change that to RT142 spec also.

The RT142 master has the ports in different spots (one on top and one out front? from memory) and thus solves this problem. If you want to avoid changing the lines, find someone who can make them for you and just change the master.

Best way to do it is to strip EVERYTHING out of the engine bay of the ST141, then do fuel lines, tank and braking stuff and feed the wiring loom through. Then proceed with crossmember + engine swap.

Joshie_Mcslide
3rd October 2009, 06:36 PM
ah yep...I see!

Sounds like it will be alot of fun! Cheers for the quick guide though man, much appreciated!
On top of that,i'll need to do the pedal box from auto to man and install the clutch master/lines etc!

Think i'll start by taking the motor n box out of the RT142,strip out most of the parts i'll need first....well the big ones I wont forget where they go anyway, lol.
Cos the corona is still the mrs daily....so she'll kick up a stink if i leave her without a car for too long.....hehehehe!
Or just steel the MarkII...and We cant have that?
cheers

Is this a live axle or IRS model?

Really like the *T14* cars. Would love to do a BEAMS conversion on one.

Joshie_Mcslide
3rd October 2009, 10:38 PM
It's the live axle model.....not %100 if the doner car is irs or not yet?

Yea I always liked the t4 rona's too.....Like way before I knew Ae86 gear fit into a ke70,I just assumed The corona was the closest cheap RWD alternitive to an 86 for drifting,Overlooking the ke70/ae71.
I prefer the rona.....st141's have little to fuck all street cred = Little to fuck all attention from the cops! touch wood!

Josh

Buck
3rd October 2009, 11:27 PM
not meaning to sound rude...but why wouldnt you just put the sus into the RT142?

i mean it seems the logical thing to do rather than going through all the pain of doing the conversion?

looking good though

i reckon ill do a corona as a streeter sometime soon

Joshie_Mcslide
4th October 2009, 12:30 AM
Yeah...seems logical,I know......but the st141 is already registered, and "the boss" doesn't want a white car.....She likes the blue one! haha.........This way is more cost effective than a full respray!
Plus the body on the blue one is Mint* few tiny pin/trolly dents in the l/h side but strait as on the r/h! and %100 rust free!
Its a one family owned car before me....Two registed owners until now,
the other car has been ass raped a few times by the looks of it!! lol

All in all.....More work,yes....But I'll appreciate it more in the end than if i just throw all my gear into the shitta!
And i wont have to put up with the mrs wingeing she doesn't like the colour! hahahaha
She Goes on about how good the black n blu contrast is.....so i don't wanna upset her!
rear wing will be going black too!.....And maybe the old chop chop of the rear louver??

Josh

There's a dude in IPRA that races a 3SGE ST141. Looks fucking mad.

The IRS coronas are a cunt to set up, apparently. Can't dial out the camber when you lower them. Live axle FTW.

Someone buy my ke70 so i can! hahaha

Sweet Vid.....I had a piggish baby blu one back in the day, only a 2s as well but it was 5 speed at least!

I was thinking about getting a propper lsd yeah!
It's the Mrs Daily driver as well,so it needs to be tame!

As much as she'd love squeeling around every corner.......Probably not the safest thing to drive Kids to school in....lol

In the meantime I was going to source another center to lock up and swap over when needed for weekend skids? But seems alot of fucking around to do like that for too long!
So T series WTF!!!

Oh god yes. Then I went and pulled the RE out and just put a 22R Carby in mine. The thing barely takes off, but rails out first at like 75, haha.

Make Rona's look like Keiitchi's old one, then it will win.

Joshie_Mcslide
4th October 2009, 08:05 PM
What is the ratio of the 22re coronas?

would it be worth getting a manual diff from an st141? mine would be higher yeah, being auto?

The Kid
5th October 2009, 12:05 AM
Should be 3.42, ie peasent spec. I think manual diffs in ST141s are 3.7, not too sure though.

keiichi
5th October 2009, 12:47 AM
confirming its 3.4ish, and st141 autos are 3.9? theres a metal tab on the backing plate that will show it joshie.
3.4 isnt as bad as it sounds since its meant to match the gearbox anyway and its a low revving engine. dont be mistaken though, these do have power potential, they have a popular market in the US for pick-up trucks. turbo kits, quad throttles you name it. theyre bullet proof and easy to work on.
or just cam if you can be bothered, shitty straight through exhaust, remove all the emission shit, extractors, pod... tune up, advance the ignition etc etc with shorter rear end she'll pull pretty hard.

Sweet!

yeah i'm a bit of a fan of the old 22re's.....hence the reason why i'm going to all the trouble....Had a black ra65 like Marvis's in "05" but the hatch back kind with a supra kit(flares/wing)
Played around with that a bit and loved it! but the car had a few electrical issues(at the time I shyed away from"big jobs").......and i swapped it for a sss datto coupe, which ended up needing a new engine and box......lol

So yeah.....from there I had a datto fling....a stanza,180bs,200b's,1600's,1200,s,120y's,a 620 ute & an ET Pulsar in there somewhere.......moved on to mazda's,had a 1300,323,rx4,rx7 & a capella......Bought the Ke70.....and you's know the story from there...and I havn't looked back.....hahahaha
They were onto something with those old toyota adds....."Oh what a feeling!!" hahaha

The Datto coupe I had though,I ended up selling to a bloke in California,i still speak to him today, and the car Is over there winning shows now......I'll find a link one day and post it up! So jelous...haha,shoulda sold it for more, lol

never got round to extractors... just seen them on ebay and other places though for hilux's n shit. just heard that extractors free up a surprising amount of power especially out of a 22re.
also PORT AND POLISH iirc they got pretty restrictive ports, if you wish to spend the dosh. how much would something like that retail for?

The Kid
16th October 2009, 08:07 PM
RA60 T series definitely bolts in, have one on my car atm, well at least the trailing arms. What you have to worry about is the tailshaft, the nose of the diff is ~20mm longer, and the bolt pattern is different, only 2 of 4 bolts line up. You may have luck swapping the rear halves of the shafts, but from what I've seen they split differently in the centre, but that's not to say they will all definately be different. That is all that is really holding me up atm :P

Here is a photo as proof, not that it shows a great deal (http://i652.photobucket.com/albums/uu248/BenjaminPritchardPhotography/Diff%20-%20Shock%20Mounts/20091013-IMG_4996.jpg)

Nah it's just a pair.......But i'll be looking from now on..haha

I have a bent R/H control arm!! much easier to notice with massive dish, but yeah...there was somthing bugging me since i put them on.....one side was slightly diff camber,Done my head in to be honest, couldn't pic exactly what was wrong!

So I maxed out the castor, thinking maybe the left and right were un even.........spotted!
more gap on one side......looked higher by 5mm or so..and further back.....hmmmmm!

So yeah......My brother in law came over and we figgered it out....well i kinda thought, hmmm she did mash that rim pretty hard, wonder if she bent anything?
app so........Off to the wreckers on monday, get some xt130's

figgers....nothing can ever be easy, surly somthing would go in though?

175/65 re92's up front,
a 185 and a 195 60 series on the back.......rears are borderline fucked anyway, got a pair of 185/60 yokys to go on the back when i can be bothered taking them in to be fitted...old as fuck and nice n hard!
Probably get a new set of 175/65's for the longchamps all round!

damn thats retarded
u looked at everything in each side ? even mounts?

Joshie_Mcslide
18th October 2009, 03:33 PM
I'll be inspecting it better tomorrow....castor mounts all looked fine..The back of the dust cover on the right disk on the other hand,is touching the control arm now slightly.....Just looks like the balljoint end of the lca has bent down and back slightly......Everything else seems fine!

If the castor rod had bent, then when i maxed it out that side would be closer not farther back....Yeah?
I'd say safely its just the lca....theres no buckle or wobble in the front so the stub axles ar ok.

Find out %100 tomorrow....I'm just going to put the stockies in for now, figgerd it was the stub axle angle of the xt130's that created the - camber....so it wont matter if i run, stock st141's,ke70 or t18.....or anything else the same length! Should look sweet with xt130 lca's in though!

Changed the LCA's.....you could see it was bent.
but the right side is still slightly higher?
like the wheel is lower in the wheelarch...only by a few mm,
I swapped the springs left to right...

same deal, same side..........So i'm thinking the stub axle is bent slightly...dont know?
what else could cause this?

Nothing really that wrong with it....Just bought it for the engine conversion,The blue body is heaps better....It's The Mrs car,she loves it! She wanted a manual conversion,I said i'd do it! Weighed up the options and thought a 22re will be a far more reliable daily than a head gasket poppin 2s! Plus it wont mind a bit of a hard time......and it's a legal no fucking around with rta and engineers, strait swap...can do it over a week by myself and I can't get defected for it....Sound fair enough? lol

Motor and box are out,Engine bays naked, fuel systems out, brake lines/master cyl all out(still need to do the lines to the front struts)...Looms half out, need to feed it through from inside the car.....Got too dirty today to do any interior work besides taking out the shifter.

I'll start off tomorrow with the dash, pedals etc and finish getting the loom out....Then front brake lines, struts and crossmember, etc out...then out with the 22re and 5 speed in the white car!!

well once i get rid of my beema (i really really need the space lol, three cars, three motorbikes and a whole lot of junk on my tiny property) im going to be starting a new project, will be a toyota of some sort, something i already know and im going to do it properly... if i get the funding im in the works of getting ill be making all my own custom links, coil-overs, bracing etc.
should be fun :D
3rz/2rz sounds like a pretty cool idea too - i wonder how hard the conversion would be... might be easier doing a 3sge - or maybe not.

Nah sounds like a plan. Euro trash needs to go!

3sge beams is where its at.

On the other hand, a 3rz is a 2.7L torque monster. They do crazy things on 6psi (around 200kwish) and can apparently handle it with ease.

A & G engineering in the states (i think thats the name of the place) have all sorts of kits availible from s/c, to turbo to NA. Aussie $ isn't too bad at the moment either.

I will post a link at some stage. Definately a different way to go than 3sge etc... 3r's still they are only a sohc engine, but like they say 'theres no replacement for displacement'.

It would be good either way.

actually dude the bimmer is really good lol goes as hard as a 4age corolla and its strong etc youll be surprised how similar they are to japanese cars... someone copied off the other i think.
i just need a toyota template for manufacturing custom dodads and well, oldschool toyota is just the coolness tbh.
personally i think the 3rz will maybe weigh too much in the front.... maybe, but having said they they are just 4cyl.

2RZ-FE is a 2.4 L (2438 cc) version built in Japan. Bore is 95 mm and stroke is 86 mm. Output is 142 hp (106 kW) at 5000 RPM with 160 ft·lbf (217 N·m) of torque at 4000 RPM.

The 3RZ-FE is a 2.7 L (2693 cc) I4 version built in Japan. Bore is 95 mm and stroke is 95 mm. Output is 150 hp (112 kW) at 4800 RPM with 177 ft·lbf (240 N·m) of torque at 4000 RPM.

im guessing either an R series or S series engine would be the way to go, easiest coversion but i dont know what bolts on to what.
heres a list of engines.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_R_engine

yeah my sister has a e46 318i.

would be good with more power, just too heavy and gutless with that engine.

if it were a 225i...........

yeah 2/3rz's are pretty heavy though. the power would almost make up for it if you have stiffer springs. for e.g, the ke's with sr's and 3s's kind of make up for it with stiffer rates. but really, im a novice when it comes to sussy, all i have is cutties and good shocks!

lol...I was waiting for someone to ask about the fire.....hahahaha,Drunk would of been a good excuse.......Bonnet wasn't on the car when it happened, was up against the wall......Thought it would be a good idea to poor petrol over the oil we spilled and lite it up in an attempt to burn up the oil,for a clean floor in the morning.........It wasn't hey!
Kinda went up bigger than i expected.....underfelt on the bonnet lit up and a skylight in the roof....hahaha,I had a fire extingisher on hand,so it wasn't totally stupid! hahahaha

Joshie_Mcslide
30th October 2009, 12:21 AM
I just recently done my brothers ke70 to 4a-c,same kinda deal......had the running doner car there etc, this has been far more involved i must say!
Done a fair few basic swaps before this though, like a few bluebird 2ltrs into older dattos,stanza's,180b's etc ,302 to 351 in a fairlane, and converted a stock n12 pulsar into a turbo........theres a few other bogan spec conversions me and a few mates done back when I was a kid....I wont go there, the fairlane's bad enough...

But basically if I had the RWD loom and everything there, yeah no problem..I'd be able to an age into a ke70.
Will be looking into going to age in my bro's car next year some time, cross that bridge when i come to it,hahaha

But cheers, good to have some feedback on the build Time.......i've Had one mate helping out Yesturday and today...But mostly with spanner monky shit, that I could tell him exactly what to do and how to do it...and I've had to crack most of the bolts for him too, hahahaha

Good times!

I didn't like the gloss, and there was a few runs and blemishes in it before.
Looks mint!

I'll finish it up today....might not be able to get the exhaust done properly until monday,
But I'll spot weld it into place at least so i can bring it back from the shed!

Shit's filthy after the swap!
It's at the exhaust shop now getting my handy, one handed, upside down,on my back and over my head welding attempt fixed up....hahahaha,shit got messy!
was hanging too low as well,I used the bigger, easier to stretch exhaust rubbers when i put it in......Cars pretty low,and my jack only goes up about 35cm if that so not much room to work with!

Pick it up soon, should actually sound good without any leaks.........might throw up a You tube vid and post a link later?

so you got the auto diff in it now right? how are you finding the ratio difference?
what speed does it change from 1st - 2nd and 2nd to 3rd?

got any plans for the engine itself, like a cam and extractors stuff like that?

would you be interested in - further down the track, stuff like fiberglass bonnet, boot, custom coil-overs, boxed in rose 4link, rose castor rods, bracing etc?

Joshie_Mcslide
2nd November 2009, 03:45 PM
Yeah,I want to get the head done, cam etc....looking into some extractors, but yeah, can only find 22r ones, need to put in an oxygen sensor or something, yeah?

Will get back to you on the speeds of each gear etc.....only really gone from the house to the shed in it,few straps around the block....keen to know myself though!

I would be keen on some of that stuff too....you selling?
i gotta flog off some rims and a few parts or something so i've got some cash to throw around.....This thing broke me for the last 2 weeks! haha

Just came back from the exhaust shop.....It doesn't leak anymore, but still too low at the back, and not sitting rite in the recess in the rear panel......hits the floor in the center too, cost $20 so im not that upset about it....But they'll be seeing me again on Saturday!

I may be soon... starting my own business making custom stuff like I mentioned, quality over quantity/hasty manufacturing, in true Japanese fashion. I don't plan on profiting off it much, just enough to keep it sustained as its something I like doing.
So basically, I'm deciding what 'group' to market to. Either the ae86/*e7*'s or the corona/celicas, since I will need a template car to work with and also use as a demo car so people know that what they are getting works. Hence why I'm selling my bimmer, its up on ebay starting bid 1800 if someone wants it cheap

Was bashing on the top of the diff and on the floor under the passanger seat...Bit anoying, initially cost $20........but another $80 today to get it all pretty much cut out and re-done!

So It's Finally fixed propperly now......i'm still pretty impressed i havn't had to re-do anything else since i finished.......Kinda expected someting to fuck up! haha.....well i did notice one of the center tailshaft bolts loose while it was on the hoist yesturday...hahaha!

Mine does 65 at 5000 in second and 100 at 5000 in 3rd or there abouts.

With the 3.9, car accelerates noticeably harder than the 3.4, im getting an f series with 4.1 in a few weeks, should be even faster.

Im interested in rose jointed rods for sure too.

ah good as - ill definitely be putting in an auto diff on my next project - the w58 has a long 5th iirc anyway so still good on the highways too.

looks like there will be some demand for the rose joint stuff etc for coronas celicas ill make sure ae86dc knows about it when it gets to that stage.... but itll be a few months yet i think.

no, no you dont need a dildo shifter... please, they are so lame :P

i reckon, if you can, try get that castor to about +5 and some more cambers. toe out is cool, makes the front feel a bit loose for my liking though, but thats just me. those alignments should be sweet if youre not trying to drift 80km/h+ anyway.

*edit* i have also noticed alot of people copying corolla setups on coronas/celicas.... they're heavier and longer.

just for the sake of conversation... my corona had -4 camber, +5,6,7? (cant remember) castor and neutral toe... springs were about 4kgf/mm front and 8kg/mm rear ;)

another guy i drifted with his celica had 12kgf/mm front and 11kgf/mm rear. it was open diff and he could link corners all day long.

yeh that was me... doing a motorsport engineering course, which unfortunately ran out of funding or something silly like that.

i got rid of it cause i was brainwashed into thinking corollas were better - what a silly mistake that was.
so i since owned a corolla, lost count how many times a crashed that thing. and a gazelle which got flat down one side from a wall lol. now the bimmer and looking for a corona again :P

I will be going xt130 lca's soon, should put it out too -2.5 camber roughly.
and I was thinking off getting another pair of castor rods and threading them to about +4.5ish....

Yeah,I want to get the head done, cam etc....looking into some extractors, but yeah, can only find 22r ones, need to put in an oxygen sensor or something, yeah?

only just noticed this. i was looking at extractors the other day actually... i noticed the 22rc extractors for things like hiace etc dont have the - is it egr? - ports/pipes. some of the exhaust just goes back into the intake through i think some sensor (or just straight in).... recycling. emission crap. so, if you get 22r extractors and put them on a 22re head youre either just going to block those ports off which is what you want or youre going to have open holes into the exhaust ports. all or i could be completely wrong and 22r heads have teardrop ports aswell.
hilux/hiace extractors wont clear your firewall either i believe.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/0/8/27808.jpg
this is a 22re head i think its upside-down - notice the teardrops.
if you get extractors for that engine and they block that teardrop off, especially since they are at the top of the port, they will create turbulence and fuck up the exhaust flow. or maybe im just being pedantic.

keiichi
6th November 2009, 03:05 PM
just custom make your own extractors ;)

maybe a rear disk conversion?? but I doubt it,lol...Its got brand new shoes and wheel cyl.....probably get a slotted rotor when I change the pads.....will be very soon, got about 3-4mm of meat left on them,haha...squeeky as fuck!

would an ra60 setup work on my struts?

The black fuel flap is temperary......getting the paint matched, the SR front lip is getting painted up....blue top half flat black bottom, kinda how it is now,lil neater....lol

What model hilux dude?

Im almost 100% sure that RT142 struts are identical to Ra60 struts hey.

they are - assuming ra60 and ra65 are the same that is. and since st141 and rt142 ones are the same i would say that they are. maybe some sort of cressida brake or something would fit on the spindle?

do ae86/ae71 struts have the same outside diameter as as corona ones? is it the same shit basically, like steering knuckles, shock inserts n stuff.

Joshie_Mcslide
8th November 2009, 09:27 AM
yeah, the brake setup in the MarkII looks good...haha should pull up a corona alright!

Shit thing is,I have the RCA's in ae86/xt130/t18 spacing,I'd have to get new ones.......dont late ra40's have a vented disk? same spacing? may be able to use the twin pot calipers with them?
I have a pair of t18 struts? wonder if you could do anything decent with them?
Might just sell my struts/rca's to my brother and hit up Lawson! go some mx73 struts/brakes?

keiichi
8th November 2009, 10:51 AM
that white thing you have there dude, is that an mx73?

possibly mx73 will work.... use the steering knuckle, LCA, brakes, struts n stuff. what are the brakes like?

when i finally get round to getting another rona i might try it - mx73 front end with struts converted to coilovers.

anyone do RCA's to suit mx73? :P

Joshie_Mcslide
8th November 2009, 11:25 AM
It's Jap GX71....but sussy is all the same as aussie mx73's...dont know the exact diameter of the rotor, but its a lil bigger then corona(cant be too much, stock rims are 14")There fat and vented though, bigger caliper than st141/rt142.
mx73/gx71 and st141/rt142 rca spacing is the same,so AJPS do em

keiichi
8th November 2009, 12:55 PM
mind if i ask why you used 6kg springs all round?

everyone seems to want to run +2kg over the rear on live axle cars... im assuming its because of the unsprung weight of the diff or perhaps effective spring rate due to spring sitting inside from the wheel?

Joshie_Mcslide

2rz into a RT142 shouldn't be too much of a legal headache, but pretty much anything is going to need an engineer. You might get away with a 3S in an ST141, but if you have a stack serious enough, you'll be fucked. 2rz into a RT142 shouldn't be too much of a legal headache, but pretty much anything is going to need an engineer. You might get away with a 3S in an ST141, but if you have a stack serious enough, you'll be fucked. Insurance companies won't want to know you, and Vicroads/RTA/whatever cuntflap registration authority in your state will make sure you are fucked hard, long and proper.

lol well put! ok enough said.

maybe ill just get an el'cheapo st141, get rego, do all the suspension n stuff, thrash the 2s until it dies and then move on to an engine conversion :D

2S = Least exciting engine of the 1980s.

If you're going 2RZ, just pony up to the 3RZ. I'm still looking for weight data, got a feeling it is a heavy fucker.

Otherwise, BEAMS and win at life.

I think that a blacktop wouldn't go too badly in one, either. They weigh about the same as the rollas they came out of.

2s with 3sge head and side carbs?

I've heard of someone trying it. It's a bit like putting 4AGE heads on a 4AC, but I'm not sure that in this case it'll actually work.

Joshie_Mcslide
13th November 2009, 09:02 PM
cheers guys....
and keiichi, just rego it with the 2s and put what ever in....vic roads arnt concerned with engine capacity so much any more,I know this cos thats what they told me......all they care about is the engine number.....so in theory.....you could just change it to whatever and go give vic roads the new number....you'd then be registered with that new engine, works with rotary's in stock piston mazda's too!

but then,yeah...in any accedent you'd be fucked!

but then we dont normally crash into other motorist when we rite off a car drifting do we.....unless you were driving a vl/vn.....haha

So my front lip didnt get finished......My bro in law had a bit on last week, got the paint matched though!

pissed off too,Fucking useless exhaust shops! I sware......the metal hook that was welded to the tips to hold the back half of the system up,snapped.....just after buisness hours! So I cant do shit about it until tomorrow morning now....unless I go have a crack myself.......but i'm not too good at welding exhaust systems with just over a foot of workspace......Fucking exhaust has cost me over 150 now......and it was a complete full system under the doner car.....not too much more and I could start from scratch! FUCK!

keiichi

exhaust systems are the woooorrrrssste

keiichi
15th November 2009, 11:51 AM
infact - i never take my car to somewhere else unless i absolutely have to or know the people...
like for eg. ive had a guy try and start shanked wheels nuts with a rattle gun when they were clearly cross threading.

i ended up with i think about 2 or 3 stuffed studs and replacing a bunch of wheel nuts thnx to tyre shops.

Joshie_Mcslide
15th November 2009, 11:58 AM
Yeah, thats fucked.....Actually had that happen when i done the RWC on this, dickhead cross threaded one stud, snapped off when i tryed to undo it.......ke70 studs are the same though,lol...had a few lying around.

and the shit thing is......I go to that exhaust shop because I'm mates with 3 of the guys there! but they seem to always fuck something up!
I wanted to go for a slide tonight too.......been having a crack in the markII......needs rain or loose gravel though, lol

So,I need a new front bumper.............maybe another pair of bar indicators?
my Brother put his brown rt142 Advanti sideways into the front of mine!!
OMG Toyota bumpers are the toughest ever! I didnt take any pics of his car,but ill get some of the front of mine.......Not sure I'll be able to get any of his,Our sisters other half had already taken it to work with him today....So he'll be fixing that all this week.....Cunt,i'll have to wait even longer for the front lip! and i need a bumper!
On a plus.....the SR lip wasn't on the car,so didnt get smashed to peices.
hit pretty hard....I was expecting alot more damage to mine, but its only bent the l/h bracket creased the bar a bit and cracked the indicators(corner & bumper on l/h)

Gunna go look through a few wrecking yards today,Want to try and find the st141 bars that have the chrome trims allong the tops of the bars......There actually about 1.5" shorter.....like,dont poke out as much as my stock bars.....kinda like putting t18 bars on a ke70......should look good!

keiichi

BATTORU DAMAGARU!!!???

the RT142 is over engineered in some ways. its a small car with a hilux engine thats one of the strongest engines toyota ever made (therefor ever made? :P) mounted to a w58 and i dont know why but the corona shells seem so much stronger/stiffer then like corollas and stuff.
this one time on a drive, i slid off the road and hit a tree and an embankment, i was expecting like the whole rear quarter to be caved in and the lights gone and the axle rooted etc.... there was just a slight concaving lol, and it was a bitch to bend it out.

i went and looked at an rt142 for sale yesterday... been sitting in this guys yard for like 3 years unregistered and been for sale for months... surprisingly good nick, starts first turn and goes good. he wants like 1600 and wont go lower lol and it just going to sit there :S

not as bad as either Sharak,But still makes gutter rash look good!

Going to the tyre joint tomorrow to blame them for fitting a shit tyre.....see if i can get it fixed on them! I figger its in there best intrest....cos i can cost them alot more than 2 tyres and a wheel repair!

put thinner oil in today too....was running 30w-70 penrite,I went for Pennzoil 10w-40 synthetic blend......Enhanced protection for SUV's,ute's and minivans.....lol,the perfect oil for a truck engine!

has it lost oil pressure though? keep an ear out on your timing chain while youre drifting if you can, if you hear it rattling - no good. happened on my rona.

Joshie_Mcslide
23rd November 2009, 10:20 PM
It was rattling bad on start up for about 4-5 sec with the thick oil, pressure seems about the same, but doesn't drop as low at idle now,iv'e only got a stock gauge so not %100.
Doesn't rattle as loud or as long on start up though.....must of been too thick?......was a custom blend....lol,bit o this bit o that....add some stablizer, hey presto!

New stuff seems ok so far....I'll keep my ear out though!

keiichi
23rd November 2009, 11:43 PM
yeh no good you were hurting your engine - sounds like the thinner oil is the way to go.
sometimes on my 22re it wouldnt pick up pressure at all on startup... or just took a really long time so had to turn it off then on and then it would just be 1 second at the most. 4-5 is long. couple weeks and thats almost equivalent wear as a couple minutes of running it without pressure.

correct me if im wrong here but i also heard synthetic is bad to run in older engines aswell?

yeah,i will eventually....thats like the 3rd pair ive seen on there,so they must pop up every now and then.....i was looking at a pair of 14x8 -15's though, spoke to Craig about bringing them over already, when ive got the cash its on.....but theres other things i need more atm.
Panhard and front & rear stabalizers are next for this, will get an ra60 diff around then and do it all at once, decided to keep the traction brackets and mod the diff to fit,or they might fit on the celica diff??
thats the next stage of mods anyway.....after i sell the markII,or sell some parts.
I'm not working atm,its christmas....moneys tight.

keiichi
12th December 2009, 01:04 PM
hey anything new going on here?
i bought a corona the other day, has a 3.7 rear end this time. whats the final drive on yours, out of curiosity?

Joshie_Mcslide
12th December 2009, 01:47 PM
nah nothing much going on with this......After christmas i'll be getting some more bits from AJPS,but untill then i'm broke! lol
Not %100 on the diff....it's still just the stock auto diff that was in it......But,on another note, once the MarkII is sold i'll be swapping the rego into my name and the 4wd will be the Mrs daily........so that diffs gettnig locked up! Found a bit of a skid pan,had a play...needs to be locked bad!!
Otherwise,yeah...i've just been driving it......done a sweet entry in the dry the other day(no handbrake)....loved it! left some dark lines too! lol proof yo!
had some fun in the rain too.....but I dont like sticking around in the one spot during the day,and the rain keeps stopping before dark.....i'm hanging to get some footage!
Sooner rather than later.....Keep ya posted!

Oh yeah.....my eldest daughter had a Japanese themed dress up day at school the other week.....made me a kamakazi head band,it's so awesome.....got it tied around the head rest,lol......oh and i hooked up the alarm system "again" finally after the conversion!
It was fitted and wired into the old loom,so it had to come out.......After some hectic shit going on in my street i thought it best to get it in there again!
I hate the gheto!

Joshie_Mcslide
13th December 2009, 08:37 AM
lol.....I need a camera man or a tri pod......hahahahaha

got up at 7am this morning.......hmmmmm,lovely weather!
might go get some milk.....via industrial...good run, found i nice spot too.
But the 2 vids i made suck!

But as i said in the last post....needs a locker! its way too unpredictable...the borgys at the point where it kicks in twin spinn at random.....almost put me in a ditch.......But on that note, must of went a bit harder this morning than i normaly do....because other than the time i had a blow out...I hasn't spunn out in this thing at all since i put it together......Lost it twice today,I was like...YEAH!
and once it's in my name,a locker isn't the only thng i'm doing!!
might change to ra65 struts/brakes and i'll be putting in some sigma lca's
maybe just xt130's with these struts?? got a poly bush kit to go in the ass,it's getting kinda loose.....Blah Blah Blah......lol

Love this car!!

Peace!

keiichi
13th December 2009, 12:00 PM
sigma isnt such a great idea, pushing your arms out that wide with the original spindle will give you about -5deg camber and busted bearings. ra65 struts are the same *edit* i mean the same as xt14x ones. the anti-roll bars (or maybe just the front) on the white corona you have there should be stiffer then st141's.
xt130 lca's good idea for cheap next step.
or you could go to s13 front end coil-overs, hubs, mx62 lca's and rod ends. theres some certain crappy things about running s13 gear like how retarded the front geometry becomes but itll still make it much better for drifting.
im going to run mx62 front end converted to coilovers and cun'n'shut steering arms i think it'll be a winner but really have to try it out first.

keiichi
13th December 2009, 12:06 PM
oh and now that you're going locker, all your standard bushings will have a very limited lifespan :P and it'll handle (not drift) worse until you upgrade to urethane.

keiichi
13th December 2009, 12:21 PM
oh btw do you still have that white corona there? whats the interior like, colour, steering wheel style, door cards style?

Joshie_Mcslide
13th December 2009, 01:07 PM
yeah I've got the bushes there to do....just been lazy the last few weeks....havn't even cleaned up my tools since i done the conversion....hahahaha

The white cars still there....interior is dark blue, but the front seats are light blue advanti ones, dont match very good.....and some idiot put holes in the front trims for speakers where there isnt a hole in the door to take speakers.....Wanker! lol

I was thinking sigma arms, with those struts would be about -4 camber(I had -5.5 in my ke70),as the stub axle is slightly diff angle......but yeah, probably go for the more subtle look......mainly wanted to increase the front track, without using spacers......I'll sort it out anyway.
Wont be happening till next year i'd say.....But will post up the progress when it takes place.
Also going to make up my custom traction brackets when i do the bushes in the ass...might have to get Sam Q to do it for me,as my welder sucks! and plus he done his 86 the same way.
should turn out alright......All in the name of Fun!

keiichi
13th December 2009, 08:24 PM
your LCA's are the same length as xt130's and ra40 arms.

no, they're not.

i ran xt130's in my rona and achieved an extra neg camber from them.

Joshie_Mcslide
13th December 2009, 11:06 PM
st141,rt142 are the same length as ke70,It's the stub axle of the xt130 struts that give me my -1 camber.....I should get roughly -2.5 with the xt130 arms...
And I would be going for the push in ball joint type sigmas as the bolt on's are too long....had -5.5 with bolt on sigmas and these stuts in the ke70.
I'm looking for around -3 to -3.5.....should be about rite i reckon.....

Oh yeah...........I'm awesome!
might of forgot to mention that before?

Not quite as awesome as Beally.....and almost as awesome as Marvis...I'm up there though!

LOL

Peace out homies!

keiichi
14th December 2009, 07:26 PM
hey josh do you have any semi decent rims lying around perhaps that you may wish to sell?
interested in maybe selling off some of the interior stuff from your spare rona too?

Joshie_Mcslide
15th December 2009, 07:57 AM
yeah everythings for sale dude!
I got those 14x6.5 +7 Sharak X-1's.....2 rims are damaged but can be repaired,And i have the 14x6 +15 PCW's that were on this the first few pics.
then I have that pair of chrome Mogies(14x7 +10) and a pair of white rally hearts(14x6.5+25),
Also the rims on the markII are for sale....doesn't look like I'll sell the car before christmas so $650 with ok tyres Rims are almost brand new......
With the interior stuff...just make a list and i'll go see whats there.

I got some new wheel barings and a uni joint to put in this too along with the rear bush kit........Might get motovated later and change em......the uni was a bit shot in the white car,so it's got a bit worse and sunday mornings efforts resulted in a loose r/f wheel baring,i've had them new in the box since i had the ke70....lol
yeah i know...I'm lazy!

Fuck.....Just realized I cant do shit to this today,Unless I can head out to a mates shed out of town....Mines full of Subaru's atm,my Brother blacked out behind the wheel on the highway in my brother in laws liberty wagon,110ks into a gaurd rail.....made a mess......But they picked up a GT legacy Wagon the same year and there in the process of re shelling it.....Hopefully is out of my way soon though......then i need to move his half finished rotary project.........anyone want a s1 capella set up for 12a?

Josh

have to say everyone in the tech section that said that is wrong then...I can take exact measurment tomorrow to proove it if you like?
I dont even know the specs of each in mm,cm,what ever.....But i know for a fact the t14 corona lca's are exactly the same as ke70 ones.....I have ke70 arms in this, and my brothers ke70 is running(yes you guessed it)the t14 arms from this.....Had to take the xt130's out of his car cos i needed them....had the later corona arms there.
It's Gospel,%100 fact.....trust me.....this is what i do man!

keiichi
15th December 2009, 09:38 PM
i take that touche back
they are all the same length
300mm

so kiechii i dont kno how you got neg camber. did you hit any kerbs ?

according to everyone in the tech article LCA's thread ra40, st142/32 and xt130 are all 300 mm.

100th monkey effect. are you a monkey?

it actually says in the op of that thread that xt130 is 310mm. st141 is 300mm i guess.

regardless, i know that xt130 is longer hands on and not because joe bob told me so.

and yes i hit lots of curbs, if i had to count somewhere between 10 to 50 in my time drifting and from that i learned that hitting curbs in a traditional way (lol) reduces your camber since the force of the hit pushes the bottom of the wheel towards the inside of the car.

keiichi
15th December 2009, 09:44 PM
no such thing as st142 either btw or st132. in australia we have st141 or rt142 in japan they had tt for the most part, the first letter being the engine series.

Joshie_Mcslide
15th December 2009, 11:13 PM
i learned that hitting curbs in a traditional way (lol) reduces your camber since the force of the hit pushes the bottom of the wheel towards the inside of the car.

I've got one side a lil bent like that atm...changed the lca's,still slightly diff on the drivers side......I figgered it was the stub axle slightly bent, and come to think about it....thats the same side the wheel barings just shit itself!

I think i'm in the market for some new struts!

Shiiiiiit!

Joshie_Mcslide
15th December 2009, 11:14 PM
probably why my brakes squeek on that side too!

Fitted the 15's on this today......something to do,plus i need to pull all the bolts out of the longys and paint them.....didnt realize the black bolts would rust...but anyway.
the look ok,not to sure on the blue/red contrast, but its kinda cool i guess?
