I found this while looking for rebuild kits.

Lots of pic's and step by step instructions.

My apologies if this or similar has been put up already, but it looks good.

cool article

just beware before you start to strip it cause most of those parts listed are no longer available and there arent too many people who sell rebuild kits in w.a either.

even quoting bearing numbers most6 bearing companies dont even stock or could match the bearings

I figured that could be the case, but Tom just got a kit from the states, so someone in the world is still doing them if you look hard enough.
Although after the instructions he does say the kit and rebuild cost him $800+ USD.
Is it worth it? That's up to who ever wants to do it....

I've found more kits available elsewhere. My kit is not genuine, but bearings are exactly the same.

Will be putting mine together these holidays although I need to get the old bearings pressed off and new ones pressed on etc.

I wouldn't either, there are way toooooooo many parts to lose, and put back together.
I could pull it apart though :P

would it be possible to just buy a second gear synchro?

hahaha yeah sam thats what i did when i pulled mine apart to reseal it. just pull the input shaft of a little metal polish on the synchro, rub it into the meshing gear, wipe clean and put back together

i actually have a genuine second gear synchro spare

does anyone know the number of teeth speedo gears have for 3.9 , 4.1 , 4.3 , and 4.7 final drive?
i think the 4.7 has 22T?
(im only interested in 4.1 but im sure others would like to know)

On that link didn't it say the GTS Speedo gear had 19 teeth? GTS came with a 4.1 diff right?

There's a gb on club4ag for rebuild kits 300+ postage would be good considering the exchange rate. Think i might do this

Can anyone confirm this?

Yep, that's my rebuild. I can confirm it.

GT-S = 19 tooth driven (plastic) gear, 5 tooth drive (on the trans output shaft) gear
SR-5 = 20 tooth driven gear, 6 tooth drive gear.

GT-S final drive = 4.3:1 ratio, T-series 6.7".
SR-5 final drive = 3.9 (manual trans) or 4.1 (auto trans), S-series 6.38"

Bearings: retail prices
90365-30020 input shaft $253
90363-25017 output shaft $95.15
90365-20004 front layshaft $258.50
90365-20001 rear layshaft $195.80
90369-30027 centre output shaft
90365-30015 centre layshaft

I have measured the bearings and it seams none of them are regular off-the-shelf bearings. I can get the syncros from Toyota no problem.

I just want some bearing at a reasonable price. Does anyone have any ideas?

guys , would it be worthwhile re-building a t-50 to factory specs for a n/a 16v smallport that is a daily and gets drifted on weekends? or should i just go w58 ?

depends on how you drive, either way I dont think any 4a engine should have a W58, W55 yes but not 58

Weird, I put a w58 behind my bone stock 4age after blowing 3 t-50's. And 7 diffs... Then again I'm not the typical driver. I beat the ever loving shit out of my drivetrain to get it to do what I want it to do.

W58 + 4.88's = win. 1-3 are like a T-50 & 4.56's, 4th is lower geared, 5th is like stock freeway RPM's.

well if you correct it far enough the other direction then it makes a whole lot of sense. But if someone has just gone out of their way to bring it back a bit then it's very illogical.

Also welcome to the forum, good to have another knowledgeable person on here.
