Basic Rundown
Sr20de+t
Coilovers front 9kg springs and TRD ae92 Blues
T3 RCAs and Steering arms
TRD 7kg front springs for rear and trd blues.
Boxed LCAs at 25mm Longer
ke70 Steering rack

16x8 Superlites, 14x8-10 Group Buy and 14x8-12 Meshies

Pretty Simple. Nothing excessive here.

So got the car home today. made the coilvers a few weeks ago so that was all that i had done.

yea its and upgrade. and the funny thing is it cost me $50. it was a sweet daily for a year and a half.
love single wheel roundabouts in the wet on stock springs and no shocks. i think its going to be so fun to skid.

And going to be clean. not fucking around with paint or anything. learnt my lesson. wheels will fit nicely so wont need to fuck around with the gaurds much either.

bigm
1st November 2009, 10:04 PM
no posing, thats with the springs and shocks in.

The car has bigger wheels on one side so this one is probably lower.

Tomorrow ill put same wheels all around and see how it sits, might just make up a spacer for the spring seat to get another 20mm or so out of it.

the gearbox lines up with the stock hole, the tailshaft is perfect length, so will just get the SR yoke pressed on and that was probably my biggest win of the day

dr1ft-pig
9th November 2009, 11:02 AM
fuck yes, this is sick man, just an idea though... putting an engine like an sr in a car that big is gonna make it harder to get up and move right?? i noticed you have the cooler mounted in front of the RSP my advice is move the radiator back as far as possible and mount the cooler behind the RSP aswell, try making your intake train a bit shorter coz i think your going to need it

advantages are

1. shorter intake train

2. more respones from turbo

3. no cooler in the front bar

4. less cop attention :)

bigm
9th November 2009, 04:35 PM
yea i have been thinking along those lines, but also like the stockness of it (using stock radiator so it fits sweet as.

its just sitting there atm.

but yea will have a look this weekend and see what i can do. but not THAT worried about performance, as long as it skids ill be stoaked, well at the minute.

so yea, food for thought.

Konakid
9th November 2009, 05:11 PM
Will be interesting to see what it weighs, Alloy SR weighs ~50kg less than the big 5M

S13 5 speed prob got a bit on the 85kg factory auto box too i guess.

Stock is 1450kg, weigh it when your done!

Joshie_Mcslide
9th November 2009, 05:25 PM
Fat bitch......Put it on a diet! its not healthy!

bigm
9th November 2009, 07:42 PM
yea i think the gearbox would be like 10-15kg less.

The thing that makes it better is the weight distribution, the motor sits so far back, and not much of the motor is infront of the crossmember.

but yea would be interesting to weigh it when its done.

there is so much sound deadening and usless metal in the car that will go. also alot of crap behind the dash.

Will be interesting

R&D Mechanical
9th November 2009, 09:19 PM
get your angle grinder out :)

xsoarerx
11th November 2009, 11:42 PM
oh wow!~ so much more progress then when i last checked in.

the cressida is more around the 1300kg weight, silivias arnt far off that anyway, take into account you remove the big 5m and auto gearbox and put i reckon 70kgs lighter SR that far back.... its only got to mean one thing... EPIC WIN! when i used to slide my soarer (6M) with crap tyres on the front the thing was like a harpoon, im sure with proper set up front end you could throw it hard.

please take a pic from above of engine bay to show just how far back it is :P

have you thought about V mounting your rad/intercooler?

whats the issue with running the tie rod on the inner steering arm hole? the tie rod hits the LCA?

bigm
12th November 2009, 09:25 AM
cheers john,
here is a pic of the tie rod hitting the LCA,

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/7/2/28454.jpg

BEcause of the design of the control arm putting it on the outer hole allows for more movement, will see how i go. when i wind more caster in it may make a difference.

see how we go

and ill grab a better pic from side on to see all the room ! :P:)

bigm
12th November 2009, 10:35 AM
Brendan, had a play with what u said (even tho i had already thought of it :P)

12th November 2009, 11:15 AM
Thermos front and rear of intercooler/rad and you should be sweet :P

heaps of room!

let me know what ya comeup with for the loc problem, ordering some T3 arms as we speak :P

bigm
12th November 2009, 11:37 AM
haha good man,

yea i have to modify the cressida caster rods/mounts so i can get adjustment out of them. are the supra and soarer one adjustable from factory? might be easier to bolt them in?

and yea 1 or 2 themos on the rad should do it. its a big fuck off IC for the small turbo haha

ae71
12th November 2009, 11:49 AM
do you think you will get much heat soak from the radiator to the cooler? what about leaving like a 10~15mm gap and putting a shroud around the lot so the air does keep flowing strait threw.

with that much room you could also put one of those water/air barrel type coolers in there. apparently they are really efficient.

top work BTW.

as dirty as a SR is, it makes a LOT of sense in this!

bigm
12th November 2009, 12:19 PM
Cheers mate

haha yea, SR is dirty for sure, but will love it. helps that the motor was for free :P

but yes, the rad is just sitting there now, will look into making a shroud to make sure the air goes where i want. also will help support the rad and cooler.

also also on the weight note, around 1300kg as john said. similar weight to Ceff's and people have success running SRs in them. they comment on how well it handles with less weight in the front. that has also helped me in my decision to run the dirty SR and get it nice and far back. will be looking into a bigger power SR when this one blows dies, probably forged or soemthing with a decent turbo. but aim is to get it on the track driving for as cheap as possible and as soon as possible.

dr1ft-pig
12th November 2009, 11:39 PM
+1 mount rad back further give even 100mm gap with alloy shroud then u wont get too much heat on the cooler, u got the room man, id be taking advantage

great start but :) ill be following this build closely

too hung over this weekend to do much.

but radiator is nearly mounted. and IC is to. about a 60-70mm gap so pretty happy with that. also sorted out my rad pipes and IC piping is almost sorted

and just paid for some 220mm 8kg springs for the rear. should stiffen it up a bit and sit nicely. hope to have them by the weekend

86TRD
16th November 2009, 10:27 PM
i would have gone possible 9-10kg with the springs , mine although are 6kg are way to soft.

xsoarerx
16th November 2009, 11:15 PM
i run 230mm 6kg springs and there fine with decent dampers in the supra, 8kg should be plenty stiff.

yea i will see how i go. i like stiff tho :P

bigm
17th November 2009, 03:44 PM
haha i had that coming.

yea, grip, meh doesnt worry me at the moment. just want to bake hahah, and the SR will need all the help it can get, compared to your 1j :P

just finnished work and considering going out and finnishing the rad and Intercooler. but fuck just it 40degrees at work, gona be hot out there lol

any more progress on this??? im very interested to see, also would like to see how spring heights go etc, how do you think s13 front sus would go in one of these???? i presume your using the ke70 rack to get rid of the p/s???? bolt in job???

bigm
26th November 2009, 10:40 PM
Well i was away the weekend just gone so got nothing done

but tonight, i put my rear springs in. 220mm 8kg, sit about an inch higher than before. look alot better.

also stripped the interior tonight, fuck that dash was bullshit haha. but its out. want to get some dry ice also. but not important really.

yes the ke rack was to get rid of power steering. pretty much bolt in, doesn't line up 100% but made it work with a bit of rubber for spacing.

people do run s13 suspension, but im all for keeping the toyota steering geometry.

will get pics on the weekend, big day working on it sunday

also tommorow dropping tailshaft off to get done.

ordered all new bushes for the front end. LCA, caster, swaybar ETC.

dave, if your talking about the hot side (right) it is because im just using what i was given to play with. the IC cost me $100 unused, and came with all the piping and connectors seen, just need to buy a few joiners for the hot side and im done.

it is something i would like to do properly in the future, but for the price, it will work and will make little difference with the current setup performance wise..

also dave, read somewhere u having problems with the diff? whats up there?

hey man.

have you put your car on the ground yet to check lock? i got the same set up as you now (thanks for the tip) and had a look at it in the air, the bolt on the bottom holding the steering arm/RCA into the strut clash's with the top of the castor rod.

i put some wheels on and droped it on the ground and it doesnt seam as bad, dont have tie rods/rack ends in either yet but best idea might be to weld a mount on the side of the lca to avoid it clashing altogeather maybe.

bigm
9th December 2009, 11:28 AM
yea mate i know where your coming from..

i still have to modify my caster rods to make them adjustable (hopefully this weekend, bought steel yesterday.

i was going to make that up and give it a wheel alignment or close enough to and then go from there. so that i dont weld in the incorrect place. but yea i was thinking the same thing. but also was thinking of welding into the other side of the LCA to prevent the steering arm traveling any further, and then i wont have the issue with it getting jammed.

ill let u know how i go. or if u make it first hit us up :P

and grant, ill grab that wheel tonight mate, bring the ke around if ur keen :P

John - im so going to steal your sway bar link pin plate idea, i found it a cunt to put the swaybar on the rina with xt130 lca's.

so to recap, you lengthend the LCA's after the castor rod holes, swapped L+R castor rods and bolted them up on top. How was extra lock acheived, just by allowing you hughely massively wide rims the area to clear the castor arms?

Id better check mine when teh wheels arrive.

so to recap, you lengthend the LCA's after the castor rod holes, swapped L+R castor rods and bolted them up on top. How was extra lock acheived, just by allowing you hughely massively wide rims the area to clear the castor arms?

Id better check mine when teh wheels arrive.

lol... when we lengthened the MA61 LCA's for my S13 set up the link pins were on a 30deg angle and it was soooo S*** house... the hole on the ae86/xt130 arms seam to be just that futher out as well which put my link pin at 45 deg+ so i thought to do that, made life easyer installing it.

your pretty much spot on biggo. when i was turning the wheel before we swaped the castor rod around i was getting about 45 deg now its maybe 55ish i think... i found a problem with this set up yesterday tho (in the supra and im guessing in the cressida cuz we have the same engine X memeber, but maybe not so much in the carrina) that theres still steering bind so the rack wil have to be moved foward...

but apart from that the next step to get more lock will to section out the LCA to allow the tie rod end to swing into it and also i think even with my offset rims the wheel will scrub on the castor rod when i get even more loc so some sort of crazy connection's to counter this.

Well bit of an update.

Started wiring, first time doing it so just got the basics done (thermofan, fuel pump, starter motor, alternator). Want to complete it tommorow night

Got my bushes today, so mangled them in with a hammer, found out my caster rod mount is bent, hit a gutter one day when my tyre blew out, owell, will still rock it. did the dodgiest caster mod, to get more out, wont show anyone or ill get shot haha

So tommorow just have to Grease up one wheel bearing and put caliper on, attach everything and then that is done. Install tailshaft if its not raining too much.

Also need to grab a 2.5-3 inch reducer for the IC, then hopefully it will start.

Then SIngle wheel test skids, cuz im impatient, then lock the diff, crash it, then burn it haha.

Hopefully done tommorow, cuz ill be pissed on new years, and wont do shit friday ahha.

IC is some dodgy system i made from a s13 kit and some stuff i had randomly laying around. 2.5inch on the hot side, 3inch on the cold side. it is one of the things on the car i would like to change one day, most likley when i get a new turbo. pic 2 pages back i think.

Thanks marvis, looks way better with the front down now.

hey, got a few old soarer ones laying around, yours free when you want to come past and pick it up.

word of advice, ratten gun your tie rods into the steering arms. i hung off the tie rods doing them up and they still fell out from sliding  no damage done to tie rods or steering arms but it made steering a bitch.

Could work dude, i get my wideband next week so i should have a working tune soon after.

For the head lights, you need to bend the contacts int he switch. Pull the steering wheel off, pull the indicator and head light assembly off and behind that is the contacts. Have a beer first cos its fiddly work. Mine took me 1hr and 4 goes before i got it sweet.

Installed oilcooler last night, also changed how i had the water lines set up so hopefully this sorts out my idle issue as there was no water where the temp sensor it ahhaha

will put oil in tonight since the locktight should be dry and then go from there.

Well I was driving around doing skids and shit. Was ever so excited and happy with the car!

2nd Gear Dumps no Problem

Then driving home and car is making some funky noises, but there is shit everywhere loose in the back so kinda ignore it.

Then going up the hill it gets worse so i go to pull over and the car stalls.... Hmm so i try jump it in 2nd. Screech Big black lines. Hmmm

Pull onto the nature strip so its not on the road..

Look under the car.. Oil everywhere. hmmm

On closer inspection the oil filter fitting on the block has come loose.. When i put it on i had my doubts the used heaps of lock-tight and then was good. so i thought...

So walked 2 houses back to my mates, Borrowed a car cover and left it there. Thats where it still is now..

Then followed where i had been driving...

Oil trail was like 2km long and a decent trail at that. In that time i did 2 skids ahha, that didnt help the cause..

So soon i got to go and get it today,

So Strat is...

Leave the motor in untill i get it all 100% done. then take it out.. so when it alll goes back in its ready to go.

Get trents block. tidy that up and then put my head on... DE heads are the same as DET, are they not?

So yea..

fucking ROFL

Aim is Vances on the 28th at archy....

IMO cooler behind grill :)

bigm
9th May 2010, 03:26 PM
yea it will end up there.. thats the only place it fitted without cutting the lines cuz i just wanted to drive the thing... and look what happened.. lolol

looks like ill be rebuilding a turbo bottom end and wacking the de head on.. will use ACL race bearings, ARP headstuds, metal headgasket and new rings. will be good enough for me to put a bit more boost with the lil t25 and get me going fairly cheap.
