Hi sorry I don't own an AE86 but a AE82 FXGT. I fitted a pair of Toda cams over the weekend and the motor continuously hunts and wants to stall especially after a few quick stabs at the throttle. I've raised the idle up and played with the timing as well as advanced and retarted the inlet cam but no success I can get it to idle but its pretty crap. The car still drives fine but the power doesn't seem to have increased by much.
The inlet cam is a 264 7.9 lift and the exhaust cam is a 256 7.9 lift. I've checked every thing and reset all the valve clearances perfectly but the thing is still a dog. The motor is basically a standard bigport fitted with a cold air intake, headers and a 2" exhaust. The motor is still running the factory Jap spec ecu, the reason I bought these cams I've always read a standard ecu with map sensor can run up to 264 cams.
Is it normal for these cams not to work well?
Are these cams too big for the standard ecu?
Should I swap the cams to 256 inlet and 264 exhaust as they both have a dizzy drive, would this help?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Some of you may recognize the car.
