Who's got one, like it or hate it and why?
Seem's like the only real alternative to the I-phone in that catagory, any other options?
Cheers

Uses the Android OS made by google which is a very good thing...okayish camera for a smartphone...good memory...overall would be a kick arse phone.
Sorta more for business and email functions, so it may be over kill for just normal day to day use considering the price.
iPhones even though common are a good thing function wise...
Samsung have a cool option called the i7500 galaxy..it runs android too...Sony have a rad one coming soon called the Satio...
Have a look at gsmarena.com....it has heaps of good info
What features do you want???

main reasons are I'm a nerd and love having gadgets to tinker with, the other is I've lost my old phone and need a new one, to get outa my existing contract with vodafone I have to re-sign another one with them.
Wi-Fi is the major thing I'm after. Biggish screen. Useless app's are always fun, specially game's for those boring days at work.

If it's WiFi, big screen and useless easy to get apps, iPhone sounds good!...haha...
The HTC would be a cooler gadget and something different though...and im sure there would be heaps of 3rd party apps around the place...

I really dislike the closedness of the iphone without cracking them. and the use of all the proprietry software and a million other reasons.
I'm going to have to go play with one I think. fingers crossed its close to being as "smooth" as the iphone

have a n97
has wifi and wlan
screen is more precise because you can use the tip of your finger nail as well as your finger instead of just your skin.
has full querty keyboard plus a touch keyboard if you rather use that.
has a great camera
can get apps for free off the net from heaps of places, ive got one that uses gps to track lap times in point to point or round a track, things that tell you how many g your pulling acceleration runs 0-100 and stuff.
has nes snes emulators.
proper 3.5 mm head phone jack
has a fm transmitter built in, so you can just chuck it in your glove box and play music through your radio, or if you go to a friends and end up wanting music you dont have to try to find an rca -> headphone cord or anything. Can also play your music through oldschool stereos.
Has crazy good battery life, i charge mine every 5 or 6 days and i use stuff pretty heavily on it.
has 32gig hard drive and plays proper movies, i have like 10 or so proper 2 gig dvd quality movies on it. Fun watching dust to glory while your waiting.
it doesnt fish iphone conversations.
can take the battery out
can upgrade from 32 gig to 40 gig with micro sd
came with cords to charge on computer and wall and stuff like that. Very good overall package.

cause its all hyped up crap. They tell you how the screen works and other stuff so you think its all crazy and good when its inferior.
the apps are readily available on other types of phones you just dont pay for them or search through them on a program that shits all through your computer.
It also comes down to the owners, phones are not a fashion accesory, they arnt part of your personality, they arnt a four hour conversation piece. I like my phone because i appreciate technology, also the fact that because of my plan and the length i had been with optus i got it for free. I had the choice of iphone etc. If i hadnt of got it for free theres no way in hell id spend over 150 bucks on a phone. Waste of money.
That app you posted above, there are things like that everywhere, i got a korg synth on my phone and my ds, you get over it pretty quick. I got guitar synth pianos and stuff, used em all once. The things i use everyday on my phone are calls and messaging, and photos now and then. The rest are rare situations. People with iphones shape their life so they have to use their iphone, make it seem like it made their life easier when it didnt.
Its all gimicky, using words like apps and seamless and intuitive instead of realworld technical info and experience. If you go into any phone shop that doesnt specialise in iphones and ask them what they think when the shops not filled with customers theyll talk your ears off about how many they get coming back and breakages and warranty issues, the fact that they arnt that good. etc etc.

the worst part about people with ipodphones, is that they cannot wait to tell you about their ipodphones!!
(and yes i enjoy calling them ipodphones)
driftke70, i was thinking about the n97. seems like it has all the cool stuff. i currently have a n95 8gb and does everything i want, use it as a music player all day every day at uni, and the sound is surprisingly good. i heard though, that n97 slide/flip out function is a peice of junk?
the thing i do like about ipods is their build quality seems to be quite high. this is only from my personal experiences in using mates. but the nokia doesnt seem that good. ive had my n95 repaired twice in 10months, luckily its on warranty. but when it breaks next i may not be able to get it on warranty, thus the thoughts of an n97...
and its just occured to me that this thread is about some google phone. id better go and google it.

i mostly agree with everything you said there
A phone is a phone,
all my mates that have them try to sell me them
then they waste half the day going online/facebook updates
No thanks.

dave pretty much no probs with the flip, good for watching movies and not having to hold it.
none of my nokias have ever broken, this one seems pretty sturdy, the n 95 was bit of a last minute thing from memory. The n97 has had a fair bit of planning.
iphone users are funny when they try to show the internet off all the time to people and it comes off their plan and they go $450 WHATTT!!!

you musnt get out the house
when ever someone posts from their phone they post a short message,
people with iphones say at the end "sorry to be brief im on my iphone"
nokia users say, i need to charge my phone
iphone users say, i need to charge my iphone,
when im at uni ill be doing something in a lab using my calculator, guy walks up to me saying how good the calculator is on his iphone
when your just sitting around users take them out their pocket and put them on the table and quietly look around to see if anyone noticed.
they always offer to use their phone when you say you need to call someone
they put little apple stickers on their car
when you talk about the weather theyll talk about a weather app that only gets us information
when you go to partys they swarm around the stereo and take turns putting on a song
making sure to cut them out half way through and adjust the volume like 10 times while they try and talk to each other about their phones
you can say what you want about nokia owners being hypocritical or something but you kinda started the whole anti iphone arguement, i just said you dont get people talking to you about iphones, but people with iphones kinda want that.

i feel what your saying D-ke70.
iphones are more of a fashion statement than a phone.
sure, they still do all the things a regular 'phone' does, and a bit more, but it's the way they are used/flaunted/flashed about that i cant stand.
for some reason, people assume that by buying mac products they are immediately 'alternate' or have some awesome, cool individuality cloak that has suddenly been placed upon their shoulders. and feel the need to flaunt this newfound 'awesomeness' by name dropping every few minutes around their friends/associates.
when in reality, apple is one of the biggest corporate powerhouses in the world.
making the owner, just the same as the next naive 'anti-conformist' standing in line.

Eh i use a mac for work, i kinda have to because i work with audio and certain programs are designed for macs. My iphone works seamlessly with mac, emails/contacts/calendar and all that just updates both ways whenever i sync it so its a win win for me.
best phone/bit of tech i think I've ever owned just because it lets me do pretty much whatever i need to.
I dont know how much easier it would be over a nokia or something if i didn't do everything from a mac though.
And in terms of Apple gear, i was a PC user my whole life and the second i bought a mac i'll never go back to using a pc haha "their shit just works"

i own an ipod, been sitting on he drawer since i got them... them 4th gen 4gb things waste of cash... my fone can simply be usb'ed with no software involved and dump the files in!!! even better with a laptop with a card reader just pull out the memory card and pop them in!!!! no need converting no time waiting!!!
thats another angle that i really cant seem to understand about ipods...

gaki86, you can actually use winamp with an ipod and just drag and drop the songs onto it. it comes up in the media library thing in "devices". i don't have an ipod for the very reason you describe (ive tried itunes, it tried to eat my computer). but my brother recently showed me this litte go-around. and its quite simple to use.
to be honest in terms of mp3 players there isnt much that can beat a 120gb classic ipod (i think the new ones are even 160?). i mean 160gb!! on a thing that small with a relatively easy to use GUI, you have to admit they have done it very well. creative used to have a few huge mp3 players but they seem to have stuck to tiny ones. there are a few exotic brands that you can only find on the net, but they are a bit exy.

MAC pawns for pretty much all creative processes whether it be music production or video editing.
MAC also pawns in the entire ease of use department and since its operating system is much simpler it doesn't steal anywhere near as much system resources as microsoft does.
so a lesser specced mac will still perform faster than a higher specced PC.
MACs dont have as great gaming support but that is merely because brainwashed fail tards keep buying PC instead of MAC. there aren't a lot of third party game dvelopers who are going to bother programming for a platform which only holds 10% of the market, hence the macs now running BootCamp and windows.
Also a mac is the fastest computer to run windows.
The real area that PC/Windows excels in is making spreadsheets.
PC's also offer the ability to customize your machine (more so than mac) but with a mac you don't need to as they got it right straight out of the box.

had a interesting convo with a mate of mine who is a software engineer. from what he says Microsoft is shit . its coding is shit , hence why shit crashes and you will never get full potenital out from your system/hardware. its all about the coding and software used
and i would agree. my nokia n95 is good as a phone.. but as a smart phone its pretty average . samsung's touch screen phones are shit. . reason being the software used to run nokia's, samsungs and whatever are baisc and their codings are shit. the coding and the software that apple uses on their macs and iphone are way ahead of mircosoft and most other programs.
and only reason being is that their are no regulation or any international standards. so big company skimp out on also the most important part.

If you go into any phone shop that doesnt specialise in iphones and ask them what they think when the shops not filled with customers theyll talk your ears off about how many they get coming back and breakages and warranty issues, the fact that they arnt that good. etc etc.
Apps = applications
and....
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/6/7/6/34249.jpg
Note use of the word "app". And they got another gimmicky word for their internet services/applications - "ovi".
Below, note use of word "widget":
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/6/7/6/34250.jpg
a widget is something that apple introduced on os-x tiger years ago. Funny that nokia should be copying such gimmicky terms.
For:
theyll talk your ears off about how many they get coming back and breakages and warranty issues, the fact that they arnt that good. etc etc.
That's interesting, very interesting in fact. I know at least 10 people with iphones and not one of them has had any problems. Mine is the 2g version from 2007, and has physical dents on it from use, and still works perfectly.
In this study: http://www.squaretrade.com/htm/pdf/SquareTrade_iPhone_Study_1108.pdf they say that:
- In the first year of ownership, the iPhone had a 5.6% malfunction rate, half the rate of the Blackberry and one-third the rate of the Treo.
So out of 6 million iphones sold in the first year since introduction, only 5.6% of those had problems, which was the lowest number by a significant amount in the smartphone sector.
Here's a pc mag readers survey for reliability in phones:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2352801,00.asp
Funny that the iphone won that too huh?

You're pretty much alone on that ay.... It's and easy consensus that the iphone touchscreen is the best in the business. I could quote a million sources but I can't be fucked. If someone says the screen and touch experience is inferior to other phones you know pretty much straight away they're tugging their willy.
