4age, 7a's spin bearings, 4a's are a square blokc, better for hard work, 7a's are good, for makin torque on a budget... well more than a 4age anyway

not if built properly ;)

everyone skimps out on the 7age builds and see them as a cheap option...spend some money and ull be surprised with the results

4age = made in the factory
7afe = made of factory parts

Golden delicious or granny smith, which one is better?

4AGEs are easy. You buy one, you install it.
7AGEs have more potential (though are still only 1.8 litre), but require more work.

nothing beats a granny smith.

red apples suck, all of them!

i thought i hadn't seen this type of thread for a while.

id like to have a crack at a 7age one day, but really cant be stuffed.

my lil big port has plenty of grunt to push my ke70 around, for such a light car i don't think the apparent lack of torque is a any worry at all.

id prolly be more inclined to go for a 3sge over a 7age. keep it a more standard engine.

nar ill probly be keeping it na for a while

NA aye...

i say go get urself a smallport if you can...

only way to tell is by looking at the head with the throttle body disconnected from the head...and you'll have to look at the inlet port...bigport has BIGGER inlet port then small port

TOP = 4ac
middle = smallport

small port makes for a better street motor and a better motor all round except for hi power (180hpish plus). oil squirters, bigger bearings, better port sizing for lower power levels, tad more compression then bigport standard.

ae92=smallport

3 ways of telling a smallport,
-red lettering on the cam covers instead of blue (sometimes referred to as red or blue top)
-intake manifold have ribs in it along the top and no tvis, bigport is smooth with tvis
-block has 7 "ribs" where most bigports have 3

personally i would stay 1.6L, im a bit of a purist. id rather have more revs and less toque. if i desired more cubes id go for a bigger motor (3s).

pickup smallport for $250, 7afe for say $300, take a look inside while taking both of them appart see what needs replacing, make yourself a hybrid and win.

suggest you budget in for a freshen up .. new bearings, rings and gasket kits will do wonders for the engine . and you'll have more fun driving it then just sitting in driver sit pretending to drive it in your garage.
