Got a problem with my clutch line running too close to the exhaust and when i thrash the car my clutch becomes sloppy and sometimes crunches gears due to the heat given off the exhaust and the line becoming hot.

I have been told if i get a JDM bellhousing that the slave cylinder will be on the other side???

Is this correct???

Let me know

Thanks

yes jdm clutch slave is on opposite side hence why people pay alot more for them,

another solution is to run good brake fuild .. something with a high temp rating .. and maybe braided line . and also heat wrap exhuast manifold closest to the clutch slave cylinder.

my mate has a set of kaizen extractors, those TRD copies and he had a similar problem, we couldn't even get the clutch line on at all.

here it is:

now this is my car, which uses a standard JDM exhaust manifold and headers, it wasnt as bad, as you can see it fits quite well, though not optimal.

for both setups we got what is called a banjo fitting, which is the same thing that is used on some brake calipers.

as shown here,

http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_carrera_chain_tensioners/pic19.JPG

that bolt has a hole that runs through the middle of it, and allows the fluid to pass through. and here is the setup with the banjo fitting fitted:

as you can see the profile of the system is much smaller, i dont have a picture of my mates final setup, but it fit very nicely.

so go to a hydraulic shop and get a Banjo fitting!

same problem with mine, im running just a braided line and it is pretty good, the clutch does feel a little less harse when it warms up but not as bad as what it could have been if we used the standard clutch line.

You could also heat rap the exhaust manifold , to reduce the temperature getting onto the slave cylinder

Kazen Garage sell a banjo bolt mod to fix the issue, works a treat.

Contact Anthony.

JB4154 slave clyinder works too. it has the clutch line fitting at the end oppisite the pushrod. May need a bit of line bending to be optimal tho.

Otherwise go for the banjo fitting. they can be scabbed for free of old hilux master cylinders. Sometimes they dont fit all the way in in aftermarket slaves tho.

don't run dot 4 fluid in your clutch master it ruins the seals

they have different rubbers in them to the brake stuff

Thanks for the help guys.

I'll give the banjo bolt and a braided line a go and see how it goes.

Cheers

is it dot 4 or 5.1 i can never remember... either way i use brembo stuff in the brakes and you can't use it in the clutch or it dies.

now i think about it, it is probably 5.1 you can't use

DOT5.1 is silicon based. I wouldnt bother really. THeres a big list somewhere i can write up but meh.

or failing all that you can just swap the bleed nipple and feed hose over. thats what i did on mine, worked a treat..

hmm id never thought of that.

just gota be careful as the bleed nipple is supposed to be at the top of the cylinder to bleed properly. but i guess if you reverse bleed it it should work fine

or bleed it off the car or something...

All Toyota brake and clutch systems are designed to use DOT 3 brake fluid.

Use anything else and you will run the risk of your hydraulics failing you at an inconvenient time.

Perhaps give the cap on your master cylinder a read, chances are you've never bothered before.

Meh ive used dot4 in most old toyotas. ONLY if they dont have ABS. Apparently it too harsh for the soleniod seals or something.

Forgot to say that the banjo fittings on old hilux masters thread straight on to the rubber lines. Makes life heaps easier. I used them on my 71 on the calipers.

i ran kazien extractors with my line somewhat close, you can get it pretty far out of the way, never got hot or had any issues. This was in a keto which i think has a wee bit more room where the firewall curve down.

if the bleed nipple isnt straight up thats not that big of an issue, you could just undo it from the bell and do on pump with it verticle to get any bubbles out (that i doubt would be there) and then you can bleed it normally for the rest of its life where its down or up.
