I think I was about 8 and my neighbor had a friend that had one, so every weekend it used to be parked up the top of the court, and I always remember my old man saying "good little car that, I wish I could afford one" he drove a Datsun 1000 at the time, and mum drove a moch up XR GT Falcon, a 1984 Sprinter was like a 2000 Sportivo today.

then when I was about 11-12 Dad bought a KE70 to replace the Datto, and I have been a fan since, also my old man went through a flooded road and said "The Datto wouldn't have made that" and I was all like WOW what a cool little car

Saw one brand new back in 83(I'm much older than most people here) bought mine in 1994 and still own it! It replaced a Datsun 1600 daily I had, I wanted a new daily that was, rear wheel drive, 5 speed box standard, cool(yes they were cool back then but not many people really knew what they were) lots of mod parts(even if they were hard to track down) and aircond, as it was my daily.

my stepsis owned one in around 2001/2002, cant quite remember

this was before i had developed my liking for specific cars, at that stage i just used to like most modified cars

she loved that car and had it not been fucking stolen i wouldve inherited that from her when she went overseas
apart from one little rust hole in the rear triangle window it was in prime condition

saw my first ae86 at a guys house was looking at a ae82 for my 4age powar.

he had a 3sgte track levin and a truno coupe with a 4agte. and i think he now has a 20v as well. i didn't really appreciate the awesomeness of the cars at the time.

In 1999 I kept seeing people talk about initial d on forums, so wondering what it was I d/led a few eps from good old kazaa and was left wondering wtf that peice of shit car was that the guy drove in it. I'd never seen any car that looks like it and couldn't recognize it.

when: back in 1999 when i was about 11

where: while walking past a panda trueno in china town in the city

then the craze of initial d came out back in the day and everyone started to really notice the 86 including me. i bought my first 86 project about 2-3 years ago and still in the process of building it from ground up :( i still can't believe how cheap it was back then and easier to find!

katsuhiro ueos, on a blog site in about 02/03. wondered what the little thing was and why it could drift as good/better than larger engined turbo powered cars and loved them ever since.

Watching the Group A race cars '87-'90 (ATCC, Bathurst etc) Then my interest was rekindled in '98 by Option magazines and videos. Meeting a few local 86 heads (like Frak, Mr.Hachiroku Advan86, J.R...) convinced me to live the 86 life.

I watched the whole James Hardie 1000 on TV, in 1985. Occasionally one of the red and white "Corollas" would come into view, and we were told it was a development class for girls from Japan or something. It made sence, then our attention was back to Commodore vs Jaguar. (Jaguar won, Commodore won in '86). Obviously the Corollas were not the same as we got, as they only had 2 doors.

I was working as a mechanic in Canada in 1994, and sometimes came across a Corolla GT-S with the motor facing the other way. I only changed the oil, never got to drive. The same year, my manager enjoyed driving his TE72 wagon (same shape as KE70, with 3T-C). It was full of rust but went well.
