It's definitely not a keto, the motor's twice the size for a start:cool:
1981 Mitsubishi GJ Scorpion/Galant Lambda/Eterna/Sapporo/whatever. These things have that many names worldwide it's not funny.
Anyways:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/6/1/2/29955.jpg
2.6 SOHC 8v Astron 1 4 cyl, 5 speed manual. Mods are just a trusty old 36mm Mikuni carb and a 2" exhaust for now. It suffers badly from a too-tall diff ratio (3.308:1:() and a serious lack of power atm, it pulled 59rwkw last time I had it on the dyno:gah: That was with the stock exhaust and carby though, so I reckon around 65-70rwkw now
It's got a bit of rust, nothing too bad though. DESPERATELY needs a paintjob though :P
Other than the carb and exhaust it's bog standard for now.
I've got a full set of these:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/6/1/2/29956.jpg
14x6 +18 Cheviot Hotwires (on the right). A bit poo, but they'll do 'til I can find some MA61 rims. I'll run a pair of these on the back with a pair of the 14x5.5 +24 stockies off my old GE Scorpion (left in the pic) on the front. I like the mismatched look :P
Inside:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/6/1/2/29957.jpg
I've gotta find a grey Starion drivers seat, to get a bit of support in the corners. At the moment it feels like I'll end up in the passenger seat if I hold a slide for too long :P
It's got a basic stereo (HU and 2 6in speakers), TR Magna steerer and a TP Magna gear knob. Gonna get a GH Sigma steerer for it, along with a Monza 4-point harness and a Sparco pedal set (gotta love ebay :D)
I'm gonna get out and do some work to it tomorrow, clean it up a bit, chuck some 215/60's (they're the only decent tyres I've got:thumbdown:) on the rims, put the rims on etc.
That's it for now, 'til I get a job and pay off my fines I can't really do much to it :(
All in all, it's a solid car that cost me next to nothing with a month's rego and has the factory parts and potential to blow most Celica's/keto's/whatever clean outta the water. Factory Sigma Turbo gear bolts straight up, and 150-oddrwkw is only 9-10psi away :D
The turbo gear is a bit rare but there's a guy on Sigma-Galant making direct copies of the turbo manifolds with whatever flange pattern you want, intakes pop up fairly regularly on ebay and SU carbies are common as sheep shit in a paddock so it's not too bad.

haha there is one of these with a gt wing and a big cannon on it in a town about 30mins from mine.

I know a guy who raced one of these in Targa Tasmania this year, taken out to 2.8 with twin webers on it, big Harrop brakes, etc etc. Mate of mien that races a gze Sprinter drove it and said it was massively torquey and great fun.

They are currently rebuilding the motor and taking it to 3.1 and reshelling into an earlier Lancer fastback.

I'm pretty sure the diff in these is the same (or close enough) to an r31 Pintara diff, so you could probably use a centre out of one of those to get a 4.1 ratio. Have heard from a few guys that the 2.6 Astron +extractors/exhaust and twin 45mm webers is good for around 80rwkw. If your after performance engine parts check out www.rpw.com.au

spiderman
30th November 2009, 12:40 PM
Course_Out: RPW's prices are pretty good, but postage would be a nightmare 'coz they're in WA and I'm in NSW.
These things run a Mitsubishi diff, so Pintara centres aren't an option unfortunately. They do, however, share a diff with the EX Lancers (which have an LSD :D) and 2WD L200/L300's, and the Starion runs an IRS version of the same diff, so ratios aren't really a problem :D
Factory LSD's are rare as rocking horse shit and the only aftermarket jobbies available are made to order by Cusco. $2k for a one way is a bit over the top, so most people go with a weldy.
Anyways, I has pics :D
My exhaust. Note my shitty welding that makes it rattle on the rear whatever-it's-called panel
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/6/1/2/30093.jpg
Spun my strut tops, 1.5 degrees neg camber at stock ride height :D

Dirty-ass engine that I haven't cleaned since those massive dust storms a couple months ago

Fitment pic, it's gay but better than FWD offset steelies with hubcaps

Just gotta find a GK-GL Scorpion grille :D

I can see where you're coming from with RPW and postage, but realistically the only bits you'd need off them would be a cam and extractors to suit, the rest (intake, carbs, etc) could be sourced locally

I'm a big fan of Scorpions, always wanted one, but never made it happen unfortunately

I've got a couple spare cars if you want one :D Neither have a motor or gearbox though.

I just have to find some money, then a cheap set of MA61's and then lower it a bunch to get rid of the 4WD-ness it currently has then take it for rego. Then I can have start on it for real :D

spiderman
3rd December 2009, 04:34 PM
As I've decided not to sell this mofo I'm gonna try and do something I've been meaning to frig around with for a long time.
1st generation ('85-90) Magnas run a coilover-style spring/shock unit in the rear. I've been thinking about somehow adapting the unit to work in the rear of the Scorpion, with Koni inserts and 6kg/mm springs. They may seem a bit heavy but the car weighs nearly 1200kg, so not so much.

spiderman

Looking at these on YAJ
http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/125419132
15x8.5 -7 SSR Mesh
I'd run them on the rear with 195/50's.
I can't afford them but it never hurt to look :D

spiderman
14th December 2009, 09:02 AM
I'm doing the weldy today :D
Much sideways fun shall ensue. Followed by me running nose first into a concrete mounted strainer post and having to reshell into my GE. Because I can't drift. lol.
Anyway, it won't hold a slide so weldy here we come :P
In other news, it made 114.7rwhp@5500rpm on the dyno at my mate's workshop, with a Ram-Flo filter and a 2" straight exhaust from the standard engine pipes back to a side pipe :D
The power steering's blown as well, so I'm gonna swap it with a manual steering box. That should deal with the scary light steering at speed as well

spiderman
14th December 2009, 03:19 PM
Pasito break :D
The centre's out, and it's bloody hot outside. I'm having a break then I'm going back out to weld it.

spiderman
15th December 2009, 04:13 PM
Well I welded the centre and put it all back together and..........................
My hat smells like diff oil.
Anyways, it's heaps more fun to drive now. I used to have to rip the handbrake every couple of seconds and leave it in 2nd just to keep it sideways, but now all I've got to do is turn in and stab the throttle in 3rd and voila! Drifty :D
Now that it slides, I can concentrate on other important stuff, like getting more low :D gotta buy spring compressors first though.

spiderman
24th December 2009, 01:22 AM
I'm seriously thinking of picking up a cheap R31 or keto for a daily and putting this in the shed for some serious crossbreeding. I'm thinking 3SGE with ITB's/W55/4.3 F-series LSD.
Or maybe NA DOHC 4G63 with ITB's/W58/4.3 F-series LSD.
Or I could do something totally left of field and stay 4G54/KM132/3.308 MMC locker, but with ITB's.
Fourth choice is basically the same as the third, but with a normal plenum-style injection setup. Destroked to 2.4, with 22RE flat tops for a comp ratio of around 10.5:1.
Thoughts?

Serious mate, do you think thats a good car?

spiderman
25th December 2009, 07:45 PM
I do. It's a bit rough but I know how it handles and mechanical parts are a dime a dozen as it's basically a two door sigma. I'd love to get a keto but I can't afford two cars and I'm pretty attached to this one lol
it's got decent balance (~55/45) and has enough low down grunt to make sliding it easy, even with the (surprisingly stiff) stock suspension.
Why, what's wrong with it to you?

My brother had one of these......killed the g/box in like a week,be gentle its a delicate flower! lol

nah should be rite for a while, they lasted this long!

spiderman
8th January 2010, 03:11 PM
It's been thrashed, the 'box is fine? Mitsubishi 'boxes are generally in T50 territory for durability (ie fine until you start pushing over 220rwhp), it's the Borg Warner 'boxes that are shit.
It does need some TLC though. A new shifter bushing might help. Time to get out the garden hose :P
I'm probably gonna sell it and get an xA6x notch or an MX73 anyway.

I had a change of heart lol
I was all set on selling it one day then I looked at it the next and was like "I can't sell this, it'd be like selling my arm"
anywho, I have plans :soldier:

High comp efi 2.4l NA de-stroker with ITB's, W58 (You can supposedly use Great Wall bellhousings to attach a narrowblock Mitsubishi engine to a W58, they're all of ~$90 too :) ) and a locker
Front sussy:
S13 coilovers
S13 brakes
MX62 LCA's
Custom strut tops and strut brace (from a guy on sigma-galant)
Poly bushes
Rear sussy:
Koni adjustables
Either chopped Falcons or custom lowered springs (I'm thinking maybe AJPS?)
poly bushes
Starion brakes

Strip all the sound deadener, a Bride fixed back drivers seat, Bride reclineable passenger seat, Nardi, dildo and a half cage will do for the interior
I'm thinking about buying a set of Equip 01's off here, 14x7 0 offset, and running 175/60's unless nothing decent's available in that size
Manual steering goes in today, as does the new shifter bush I've had for months but cbf putting in until now :P
fuck, I hear a noisy, VERY low MR30 coming up my driveway. I spose, I did tell her to pick me up early lol

it could be cool if it wasnt so beat up and stock....

i thought the only thing you would do to them 2.4L motors was a dodgy turbo set-up if you really loved them.

large capacity 4cyl that dont rev often love some boost and make super fat toque.

one of the guys from work had one of these not sure what engine he had in it (it was a mit) and it ran 26 pounds and it looked like a shitta and smoked anything that could move, soon as you went into 2nd put your foot down, mate said all you did was kept changing gears as fast as you can

spiderman
18th February 2010, 09:20 PM
It's not going to be stock for long, but the beat up part shall remain for a while yet lol
I don't see how a factory turbo setup with an EFI conversion is dodgy?
Anywho, the points moot as I'm going to run an ITB equipped NA 4G63 as soon as I'm off my P's. In the meantime, a high compression carby Astron will suffice.
I might even sell it after I register it, and get an IRS RT142 or an MX73.
I can't do anything about anything just yet, I'm in Wollongong til Saturday so I'll get on it then

It's been months since this has been on the road, and I'm decidedly sick of looking at it sitting there, so it's a good thing it's getting rego'd next week :P
the last time I drove it any sort of distance it had fucked, sloppy power steering with no belt on it, shitty worn out 215/65's, a leaky brake master and flogged out rear control arm bushes and it ran like shit. All that's fixed now so it should be a more pleasant experience this time round lol

spiderman

Two posts in an hour in my deserted wasteland of a thread. Fuck I must be bored lol
anywho, I thought I'd share my engine specs:
1979 Scorpion block
-TR Magna crank
-TS Magna conrods
-TP Magna 20thou oversize flat top pistons
-forklift oil pump
1984 Sigma GSR head
-casting dags removed from the ports
-new Crow Cams GSR spec camshaft
-Brian Crower valve springs
-NOS USDM Starion valves
GSR inlet manifold
- 34/38 Aisin carby
-blocked off EGR etc
stock cast exhaust manifold

It's my mates old engine from his Triton, it made 143hp atw at 5.8k rpm rpm with a 2" mandrel bent milt steel exhaust. It was choking on the carb whilst being strangled by the exhaust so 170-odd would be feasible with twin downdrafts and a 2.5in exhaust.

Said spare shell looks like this:

I'm also thinking of finding some spring compressors and attacking some std-infested stock height VN V8 commonwhore springs I found in my shed on my cousin's old R30 struts with a grinder to make them not quite so std-infested so my car doesn't catch commonwhore-aids when I use them to get some lower-ness and stiffer-ness happening so it doesn't look and handle like my auntie's Maverick anymore. hell crazy body roll and massive understeer followed by snap oversteer is kinda scary.
EDIT: it'll probably still get commonwhore aids but it will be a treatable case instead of the terminal case it would be if I just bunged the springs in there without choppage. I SHOULD be safe from the disease though, as long as I wear a hazmat suit and burn anything that comes into contact with teh aids-ness immediately.

Anywho, here's some photo's I took about a week before it died on me.

Since my last update I've managed to trailer the car to Dad's and pull everything attached to the front of the block off to clean/replace it all.
The oil pump is completely fucked, as are the timing and balance shaft chains, the chain guides and the tensioner. I'm going to replace all that with new stuff and see if it goes, if it doesn't it's getting a carby Magna motor with a 32/36 and a cam.

spiderman
5th October 2010, 01:29 AM
uh..........what? Cut the bumpstops out and run stiff springs? No can do unless I convert to rear coilovers
The top coil on the early model rear springs is 1/4 the dia. of the rest. Conveniently it's a couple mm bigger ID than the OD of the metal part of the bumpstop, therefore the metal part keeps the spring located when the suspension's at full droop. I can, however, cut 3/4 of the rubber part off and copy your rear sussy setup :P

That's the hole for the chain tensioner. I had a spare pump sitting around, and Dad bought me a timing chain kit ages ago. It should all be back together and ready to go soon :)
I've got to buy enough brake fluid to fill the rear circuit and bleed the system, as I've replaced the rear reservoir. I'll probably do that today, depending on how much money I have left.

Anyway, my wheels are here :)

Amyway, tomorrow should be productive, provided I can find this bloody short
Got defected 'coz the trailer plug I hadn't got around to throwing out broke and started dragging on the ground, so I cut it off and cleared it
Went to start it to drive away from the cop shop and the battery was flat, I was like WTF???????
Got my mate to come down and jump start me, went back to his to try and figure out what was wrong. Thought it was probably the wires on the cut off end of the trailer plug wiring shorting on the bumper every time I hit the brakes or blinkers. So we removed the plug wiring completely, charged the battery for a bit and it started fine. Drove it home, turned it off and went inside.
Came out half an hour later and the fucking battery was fucking flat yet again >@
It's not the battery, that's new, and the alternator is charging it fine. It's just when I let it sit for a while that it does it. Nothing's been left on, it's just going flat of it's own accord.
Be fucked if I can figure it out, might have to ring my cousin the auto sparky and see what he says

these some POS country like taiwan or something where if you put a aftermarket exhaust on that isnt pre-approved by the transport department you can go to jail for it. the RWC inspections are probably about as strict as NSW etc and they get shitty about having the headlights perfectlight set etc but appart from that defects are uncommon and are often used as a fine for drifting.

10th November 2010, 05:03 AM
Good to know, cheers dude :)

Anyways, turns out it wasn't just that dodgy interior light switch, the alternator only charges 60% of the time and even when it is charging it's not doing it well. Fuck I'm beginning to get pissed at this car, if it's not one thing it's another, or another, or another >@
I've also got a leaking brake master cyl, but only on the rear circuit. I had to top it up 7 times on the ~400km round trip to Gilgandra and back I made on Monday night. I also had to drive the whole thing on low beam, as the alternator doesn't like supplying enough power to run wipers, high beams and the engine at the same time :gah:
Ah well, I have another alternator here so I'll swap it for the one on the car and see how I go
I also discovered that the starter solenoid cap (ie the black plastic bit that all the wires attach to) is loose, not sure if it's a problem or not but I may as well swap it for the Magna starter I happen to have in the shed while I'm at it
Front will be lower today, by maybe 2 1/2 coils. I might take a coil out of the rears yet too, it depends on how it sits once the front is done

Aaron, you were right. This car has aids. It's fucking cursed, if it's not one fairly serious problem it's another :(
First the HG went, then 5 days after that was fixed the alternator died, and now three days after I fixed that i'm getting the feeling one of my brand new timing chain guides has broken because it sounds like my brand new timing chain is rattling like a slut
Fuck I'm starting to hate this thing
Although, it's got a rattly lifter at idle so it COULD be that getting worse at higher revs. Problem with that is, it sounds like detonation, but it shouldn't be as it's only got 8:1 static comp, runs fine (normally) on 91 and normally doesn't rattle like a slut.

Nah, it's stock height at the front only, because it's got lowered springs out of an earlier model in the tail, so I was going to match heights to make it look somewhat less ghey. I don't actually have stock rear springs for it, they appear to have gone missing when I moved my shit from Dad's shed into the back of the old Corona wagon I have here for storage purposes :(

Someone REALLY needs to change the title of this thread, I wince every time I see it.

New plans:
-My fortrans up front with a pair of 14x7's for the rear (yet to be decided, probably mesh of some sort)
-Camira shocks, 40mm cut down struts, chopped HD Falcon springs (front)
-TP Magna wagon shocks, chopped HD HQ-WB springs(rear)
-Slotted rotors
-Make shotgun pipes
-Weld diff
-Drive/skid

Yes, more plans. I'm sticking to these ones. It'll go ahead in small doses for a while because I'm a poor cunt, wheels will be the last to go on bar the guard work.

On another note, whilst crawling around under this trying to find the source of a clunking noise I've been hearing from the front suspension (turned out to be loose caliper bolts :gah:) I discovered that it has polyurethane bushes for everything. LCA's, rear swingarms, rear shocks, swaybars, you name it it's poly. Which is cool, because it saves me at least $500 :D

While I intend to scab bits off this car for the white one, I'm going to stick the shell on stands in the shed and attack it with a sander, some bog and some paint. Try and make it look somewhat respectable. After that I'll decide whether to keep it, rebuild the engine and whack EFI and a T04E on it, or sell it. I love four-cylinder engines big enough to make a T04 a viable choice :D
Cue new thread for the white car :)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
How does one go about this?

Anyway. The white Scorpion will need paint and rust patching around the rear window at the very least. I want it to look good, so I'm going to take a bit of time to do it. Therefore, this one has been promoted again.

I did a bit of open heart surgery on this last weekend. There's a pretty awesome crack in the No.3 rod journal on the crank, and the rod looks like it's been attacked by a madman with a die grinder. Safe to say it's pretty fucked.
Luckily I happen to have a spare crank and eight or nine spare rods, so I'm pretty set for that. New bearings were ordered and paid for today, as was a new rear main seal. I have to buy spigot and clutch thrust bearings yet, but it's looking good to be back in and started by next weekend.
Then will come grinding of the obvious rust holes and bog, seal and primer. Might see if I can find a tin of blue spraypaint that's a reasonably close match so it doesn't look more like aids than it already does.

Spring adjustment comes after rego. Sick of the hektik Commodore-esque nose-high ride, needs to be about 3.5" lower in the front and maybe 2" in the rear.

spiderman
16th March 2011, 01:21 AM
Speaking of fixing rust, seeing as I have to do it anyway I might commandeer my mate's garage and spray the whole thing VN white before rego. Mainly because it's dirt cheap, and I think these things look good white.

spiderman
17th March 2011, 11:07 AM

Meaning I have two engines to put in cars in the next week or so. This one, and the 6500rpm screamer that is the 2L for the other car :P

So I'm planning on making All Jap Day in Sydney on the 1st May in this. Still have to register it, so I'm hoping I can get 6mths on it as it'll cost me half as much and leave me dosh to get there and back.
Still have to lower the front, I have a pair of springs here from a Volvo or something that should do nicely.

Don't laugh, it looks marginally better than it did before. Bonnet from the parts car, which is faded, cracked silver but looks less like hammered shit than the other one. Plus, it's dead straight whereas the other one had a rad crease in it. Guard's still creased/dented, but meh. I also carefully scraped most of the flaky stuff off, so now it just looks faded.

spiderman
4th April 2011, 09:14 PM
It spat something out through the timing case, and it still rattles like a shitcunt. So fucking tired of this shit. It's getting stripped for parts and the rest can go to scrap. For real, this time.

spiderman
12th May 2011, 08:28 AM
Just read the whole thread over again. Fuck I do a lot of shit-talking.
It didn't get scrapped. I started stripping it, got as far as getting the front bumper and grille off and couldn't do it. As much as I hate this car sometimes I just can't bring myself to kill it.
So I'm going to keep going. Hopefully one day it'll be at least some way reliable.

Anyway. Picked up another engine last week.
Story goes, my mate had this 4WD '86 Triton with a dodgy turbo 2.6. Basically a non-intercooled suck through setup on the standard engine. He decided to do something about that, so he built this one up on the side but stacked the ute before he could swap the engines over. So I went over and asked if I could have it. One carton of Extra Dry and a bottle of Gentleman Jack later, and I have myself an engine :)
Specs are fairly simple, it's a USDM Starion shortblock with a balanced Starion crank, 92mm Wiseco 8.5:1 forgies, TS Magna rods and 12mm ARP mains/head stud kit. Head is a new Pajero item with a mild port job, mild cam ( max power at 5.8k, redline is 7k) and double valve springs. Intake is standard match-ported Pajero/Triton carb manifold. It's also got a baffled Starion sump and Starion oil pump.
That's basically all I got, I'll have to source a turbo/manifold and make a crossover pipe myself when that time comes. NSW P-plate laws etc.
So, once it's in I'm just going to run it in NA format with the 38mm Mikuni that's on the current engine and the current exhaust. Should go somewhat better than standard at least.

Pics when it's in.

spiderman
6th June 2011, 01:07 AM
Pics of the engine wouldn't be particularly useful, as it looks exactly the same as before except for a crinkle black rocker cover. But still.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/6/1/2/71404.jpg
Still need to find another timing case, as the one that came with the engine had been repaired somewhat dodgily and was leaking. I have a 2L one around here somewhere, I might see if that works.
I'm getting a set of these (http://www.diamondracingwheels.com/pro.html) in 15x8 +0 and 15x10 something, I'm waiting on measurements to decide on rear offset. Looking for flush or a little bit of poke (running 205/50's), but not mexican-spec as I don't particularly feel like running flares.

Steering wheel is on. No pics because I'm a camera-forgetting dickhead and my phone's camera shit itself, but I'm sure you all can imagine what it looks like :P
Decided I'm going NA with this as the guy who was making turbo manifolds for these on S-G has stopped doing so, and factory manifolds are rarer than rocking horse poo and normally either cracked or super expensive. So I'm going to run with the current engine in NA format for a while, maybe swap to flat-tops for the extra comp.
I'd like to build a 2.4 de-stroker for this eventually (bore it to 92.1mm and run either 202 Holden or 22R pistons with a 4G52 crank), I have most of the parts (bar a set of pistons) but not the money at this point. Maybe after rego, I'll buy a spare motor and build it on the side.

Also, I've freed up the exhaust a bit by ditching the front muffler in favour of a bit of straight pipe. I was looking at getting a scorpion about a month ago mainly due to the availability of cheap parts. $200 extractors on eBay, Tri-Y style but surely they'd be an improvement over stock?

Edit: Remove the damn bumper over riders and take pictures.

spiderman
7th July 2011, 11:01 AM
Ha, you obviously haven't looked for model-specific body, trim or interior parts (pretty much everything that isn't mechanical is different to the Sigmas). It's either nonexistent, fucked or waaayyy overpriced. Why do you think this still looks like shit? lol
ANYTHING is an improvement over stock, the factory exhaust manifold is atrocious. Which is a shame, because the Z-pipe (the twin bit that goes around the steering, links the manifold to the "cat"-back section) flows HEAPS. Intake and exhaust are the major restrictions on these things, the factory carb is a 28-32 Mikuni which is nowhere near big enough. Even the XE/XF 34ADM is too small, although two of them would be fine.
Bumper overriders, I'll assume you mean the black rubber strips that run the length of the bar? They're gone as soon as I can figure out how the rear bar comes off, along with the towbar :)

The two black plastic bits sticking out the middle on these pics. They're horrible.

Just some simple things could make that white one look alright.

Paint the whole grill and headlight surrounds matte black, remove the one foglight, or get another to make it a pair and remove those plastic bits from the bumpers. Possibly adapt a a KE70 Foha, or Corona style front lip, if there isn't one for Scorpions.

Ohh, and where are the mirrors? Fender mirrors would be the go ;)

Wait, are we talking about this car or the other one now?
Bumper overriders and other visual things for the white car are secondary atm, it still needs an engine. Said engine is in the shed ready to go, but I'm waiting until this POS is reliable/low/loud/wide/sliding before I get started on it.
Mirror is on the driver's door, only one from factory. Looks cool, so I'm going to leave it as is :)

Nah, that idea got scrapped. It's not really that bad, couple 20c holes in the LHS door frame and a bit of surface.
To be honest, I love this car almost as much as I do the white one. And practically, due to the longer wheelbase, wider front track, bigger brakes and considerably stronger rear end it's a better base for a slider. I can fit bigger wheels under it too, something like a 9 -20 would easily fit in the rear guards with 195/50s and a pole roll, where as with the white one you'd be lucky to get an 8.5 +0 in there. Front guards are similarly sized, 8 +0 is about as wide as you can go before you have to start pulling guards.
Besides, I fit in this one better. White car is tiny inside compared :P

The pinstriped interior in these things is pretty funky, it would look a lot nicer with a vacuum and clean though. The seats don't exactly look very bolstered, if at all. You might slide around a bit and have trouble staying in place through hard cornering.

You could probably get a good pair of OEM bucket style seats from a wrecker on the cheap. Integra seats are pretty dope, as are Suzuki GTI, SW20 MR2, Subaru Impreza, even BA Prelude ones are fairly low and supportive. People dig MA61's but I think they might be a bit too big for the car. Could always just walk around a UPI, hopping in cars and testing which seat offers you the right support and shape.

You'll definitely like using that wheel though, broseph. GKTech's are pretty damn good for their price.

Got the brake boilers on yet?

spiderman
9th July 2011, 11:09 PM
Yeah it's pretty cool. Needs the digi-dash the US and JDM models got and it'd be awesome :P
Vaccuum+clean are pretty low on the priority list at the moment, there's no concrete out where the car is so it'll just get dirty again.
If the back seat's anything to go by these things were a mobile couch when new, but the front seats are about as supportive as a park bench. Early ('77-'80) seats are a bit better so I'll probably run my spare pair of those until I tind something better, finding cars with decent seats in the wreckers out here is a bit pot-luck because most of them are just as gay as the stock ones.
Tiller's actually a Momo jobbie, GKtech horn button is what I had lying around :P
Cookers are stacked next to the car at the moment, I ran out of light and the tyre shenanigans (you know you suck at tyrefitting when it takes you an hour to seat a 185/65 on a 7 lol :P) fucked my back so I'll get them on next time I'm out there.

Got a bunch done these last few days. Engine has been pulled out, pulled down, NA-converted with Magna flat-tops, re-assembled and put back in the car with a new timing case. Just need to get the dizzy timed right (it's like 3 teeth out atm), charge the battery and see how we go.
Problem: It still has a dodgy rod. As it turns out, one of the rods that were in there had suffered the same fate as the one I pulled out of the original engine. So the bearing shell is loctited in there for now. Meh, if it makes noises I have a 2L in the shed I can use.
Also, the cookers are on. Had to go to Forbes and buy shank nuts as I seem to have misplaced the ones I had, but meh. Turns out I was wrong, Scorpion front guards aren't that much bigger than Sigma ones. 7 +0 is about as big as you can go before needing to attack your guards with a pole/guard roller.

Just need to see if it still runs noisy, if it doesn't I just have to put new balljoints in it and I can go for rego :)

I have pics, but mum's internet is retardedly slow so you'll have to wait for them :P

Problems may occur if he notices the cut springs, but if they're the only illegal thing on the car it's likely he'll pass it.

Took the rear spring rubbers out today, dropped the rear another inch, inch and a half or so. Just gotta get around to doing the front.
Didn't get any further with lowering it as the rest of the time I had out there was spent trying to get the motherfucker to run. Spins over fine, doesn't want to fire. I'm 95% sure I put everything back together right, so something's fucked out. Great.
Meh, I'll figure it out later.

You probably have more money and definitely have more skills than me bro, plus you only have to walk out to the backyard to work on the thing :P
I'll look forward to it :)

This should be done soonish. Have to save for rego and lower the front and it'll be driveable.

Still, you don't have to drive/walk 30km to work on it, if Houso weren't such faglords I'd have it in the backyard but nooooo, shitkents have to have a "no unregistered vehicles on the property" rule >|

4.6's are in the boot of the Commodore as I write this post. Gonna go out and slot them in tomorrow, gotta get it running too so I'll do that as well.
New plan is to just get it running, drop in the 4.6's, put the stock rear springs back in then rego. Sussy can wait until it's back on the road.
I'll also chuck the 7's on the rear and the 6's back on the front. Should look a little less silly at stock height lol

decided on a colour as well. Atlas Grey, aka VN SS grey. I can get it for pretty much the same price as the basic white I was going to use, which is cool.
Did some imagining, should look alright :)

Fal#### springs have been bought, as well as Centura shocks and Magna wagon rears.
Slotted in the 4.6's as well. I'd drive it, but it doesn't seem to want to turn over. Hooked it up to the Commo via Dad's big-arse jumper leads (normally used for jumpstarting his old tractor lol), dash lights/stereo etc all worked but when I turned the key nothing happened. Dash lights, stereo etc didn't even go off with the key. Fucked if I know what's wrong, I'll grab Dad tomorrow and go over it as he's considerably more talented with auto electrics than I am.

Not getting power to the starter when the key's turned. Starts fine when you short the starter with a screwdriver though.
Still a rattly piece of shit. Which is pretty gay. Needs moar 2L so I can take my time on the 2.6.

Now that I've finally got tools, got some shit done. Not much, but, yeah. No excuses.

Got the front end done, old guards and beaver panel were ratshit dented, but surprisingly had piss all rust.
The photo's are from something other than my phone for once, I borrowed my sister's 1100D :P

That's 14x7 +0 on the rear, plenty of room :P
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/6/1/2/289221.jpg

To Do list:
Done:
-2L is in, runs good. Has a Jap head, carb, intake and exhaust manifold/Z-pipe on it, don't know if they're actually any better or not but they were in better shape. Also has a stage 2 cam, no balance shafts and a fully balanced shortblock with new rings+bearings. Using the narrow KM132 from my GE, with a HD clutch from a petrol L200 (?).
-4.6 rear is also in. Bakes the inside rear in 2nd on tar if I give it a hiding
-Has a dodgy exhaust that I made myself from a couple old stock systems and some steampipe with a stick welder for a laugh.
-Dodgy CAI made from a TP Magna airbox with a gutted AFM and the end cut off, a carby hat from an L300 van and a Magna intake pipe. Intake pipe had a few splits, so it's completely wrapped in 100mph tape. Induction noise combined with dodgy exhaust makes it sound like a D16 Civic with a $10 pod.
-Now has a proper non-PS GJ-GL steering column, instead of the bastardised GJ PS/GH non-PS hybrid it had before.
-Bled the brakes, wore the surface rust off the rotors with a few hard stops. Could use slotted rotors and/or Starion brakes, as they fade a bit after five or six.
-Now has most of a GE-GH front end, as the original panels were far from straight. Still has the GJ grille and bumper but the guards and beaver panel are GE-GH. The bonnet is too, but they stayed the same from GE-GL so not really worth mentioning. The car is now blue, faded blue, white and weatherbeaten silver.
-Replaced every rubber bush in the car with either NOS rubber ones or polyurethane, did the balljoints while I was at it. Actually drives like a car now, instead of a sailing ship into a headwind. Also replaced the strut tops with NOS ones I found, still in the boxes/plastic wrapping, at the local tip.

Still to do:
-Shocks are munted. Require new ones. Will likely shorten the struts 40mm and run R31 shocks/R31 Pedders lowered springs up front, and TP Magna S/W shocks with lowered GE-GH Lovells springs rear. Will trim springs/add spring rubbers as required to keep it level.
-It peg-legs like a champ. I can either spend up and import an 80's vintage 1.5-way Ralliart LSD, most likely requiring rebuild, meant for a boxtype EX Lancer, spend up bigger and do an R31 Silo diff swap, or weld the diff. Or, I could be boring/gay and leave it.
-NO REAR SWAYBAR. These must have been a bit oversteery with one, because it's not there from factory.
-Put the stock exhaust back on (or get a proper one made). The current one's embarrassing, it sounds like a Honda. Reasonably quiet at idle and just putting about, but sounds like the wet fart from hell at WOT.
-Balloon tyres. Currently has 185/65R14 Goodyear and Sime shopping-spec shitters, would like 185/55R14 Hero HZ-1 (same tyre as Federal 595SS, just cheaper. Because not brand tax).
-No rego. This will come once everything's done, and I'm not a broke #####.

So, I kinda broke the cheapo outer tie rod ends I used... -_-

This might not be my main priority much longer anyway. Going for my blacks Tuesday (12 points and no licence restrictions, come at me.), so I've got my eye on a white JB Starion with factory option LSD, hiflowed TC06, 3" turbo back, very 80's maroon interior, decent basic stereo etc. that's currently for sale on Austarion for $2.5k unreg'd. Will need better wheels (has some crappy 16x7's atm), a drop and maybe an MPI conversion (factory TBI setup, while considerably better than the JA type, is still notorious for leaking like a slut), but other than that I'm not going to touch it. Basically buy it, register it and drive the fucker.
