hey guys i just scored an oldschool z50 and wanna rebuild the tired old engine.

plans are to keep it as quite as possible but get as much power out of it as possible and have a nice revy engine.
i was thinking the following;
75cc or 88cc bore kit
high revving cam
stiffer valve springs
and a bigger carby

what do you guys think?
please add anything you think would help.

btw its just a little side project so i dont wanna blow too much money on it.

Na I don't. I'm gonna go see this guy about it. Apparently he has a few of them. Should be able to confirm if it's a complied model and maybe sell me some parts

The guys at Horizon motorcycles in Glenorchy race these things for a laugh, I know a couple of them have done big bore kits, cams etc. Might be worth contacting them if you get stuck.

I would be happy to help you adapting a different engine in for a modest rate. Would be funny as if I ported one of those heads, would probably be the smallest thing I ever get to do

Thanks sam but I would rather not pay for work I can do. I have a crf50 with a 125 in it already.

Well I'm goNna strip the frame and then start it from scratch. It had the plate behind the head stem between the tank but it's been painted black so I gotta clean all that up and then respray the frame. You got any pics of yours??

Air filter lid looks mighty odd in chrome, should'nt it be black?

You interested in OEM replica tyres for Z50 J's? Might be able to hook you up.

Also I think black grips would look more period correct?

yeah did the best i could with what parts where there, i still need to fix a few things its only 90% done, the grips are ones i cut off my motocross bike and taped on there till i get a chance to change them, the side plate will change when i find a genuine one.

Still need to put the headlight and indicators and stuff on for rego.

what model is it, i can tell you straight away, if its pre 72 it doesnt need a compliance plate, if it is post 72 it will need a plate. if its a z50j and doesnt have a plate you can get one.

Well the plates have all been sprayed over so I can't tell. Year or model type. Bit it does have brackets off the forks for indicators and light.

LOL. Pretty well the entire world knows what compliance plate Z50Js are worth dude ($$$s now even for shitboxes), nobody will hand you one.

You might as well have asked if anyone knew where there was a good Levin GTv notch with a built 20v and coilovers just sitting around taking up space that you could have for a few hundred...
