CBY and Tec-Arts crashed in qualifying hence absent from grid. Also after 2005 they both reverted to using 15" wheels from 16/17".
And from 2005 Tsuchiya relented to fit GT wing to the TRD machine to increase highspeed corner stability.
Note many of the cars weights are around the low 800kg mark! The sub 800kg SS Works has a 3/4 Chassis with structural cage/space frame front and rear suspension mounts!

This looks like the same day as the previous clip from Fuji, but the actual Best Motoring footage. The close-ups show Keiichi's eyes are alight with enthusiasm, grinning from ear to ear inside the helmet. As you can see it's from the very early days (1998) The body is pristine Super White and no TRD livery (bar the windsheild strip and small TRD under the door mirrors). SSR Formula Mesh 14x8.5 & 14x9 occupy the N2 blistered arches. There was a follow up to this in HotVersion where the settings were changed to better suit Fuji's long straight (1.5km) and the time was shaved down buy a few seconds!

Cooler conditions then the steamy heat during the Festival race. Tested and changed gear ratio to mark 1'42"6 time with used tyres! Furthur tuning of suspension, brakes complaint (issues) remain and improvement of this area the next challenge, still without GT wing. (rough translation)

that was AWESOME!

check out part 2, at about 3:50. the tec-arts guy (i think?) seems to have replaced 5th gear with a 3rd gear overdrive, they have labeled it "3.5"

so he changes from 3rd to "5th" (which is overdrive 3rd) then he changes to 4th. they show a H pattern on the screen when he does it.

They have been doing it for years actually. It's due to the shortened gear ratio's - the first three gears are usually replaced with a TRD 3 gear-set (as the full TRD 5 is discontinued).
5th is replaced with another shorter ratio instead of being an overdrive gear and 4th stays 1:1. I'm sure Frak will elaborate on this further as he can recite the whole gear ratios by heart!
