AJPS
19th November 2010, 05:46 PM
really good!

corona wagons can be good!

did you get camber tops in?

macca1590
19th November 2010, 07:17 PM
2j would be off tap!!! hope w58 handles it, but i suppose light car and smaller tires will help

wont ma61 struts give you a wack camber angle or will your camber tops and lca's bring it back to a ok angle?

AJPS

ahhh i see, my bad

still would be pritty sic thoe

ecko
19th November 2010, 08:29 PM
no camber tops yet
with the ma61 struts they do give positive camber so basically they should cancel out the extra control arm camber
well it did on the passenger side, drivers not so much,
got some kmac camber and castor adjustable tops that will be in soon

and yeah as dave said 2jzge so w58 is standard fitment however i only have a corona w58 not a supra one so its slighly weaker but lighter body should make it ok

29th November 2010, 12:10 PM
Pretty good answer... :)
You're going to blow the pants off many for this, so cool!
Needs vids when it's on the road.

ecko
29th November 2010, 01:50 PM
vids will be aplenty,
yeah its staying fairly low profile so may shock a few and red light GP

joeschmo_57
5th December 2010, 11:34 AM
how much heavier is a 2j than a 2s?

ecko
5th December 2010, 04:43 PM
im guessing around 40kg maybe,
but ride height doesnt seem to have changed yet

machg
6th December 2010, 10:51 PM
The 2jz should transform this car. Hopefully the extra weight over the front axle line won't hurt the handling too much. I guess the massive power and torque increase will increase the availability of oversteer regardless, lol

ae71
7th December 2010, 11:42 AM
and yeah as dave said 2jzge so w58 is standard fitment however i only have a corona w58 not a supra one so its slighly weaker but lighter body should make it ok

what makes you think this?

FYI corona didnt come with w58, it had w55.

edit: i think you will have a battle to break one anyway unless you drive it like a fool.

ecko
7th December 2010, 08:12 PM
corona did come with w58 aaron the one i have came from another rona ratio has been checked it is a w58 alloy case but still a w58

ae71
8th December 2010, 01:26 PM
just because it has one, doesnt nessesarly mean it is one.

could have been replaced with a ma61 w58 at some stage in its life. surely the original build plate denotes the actual box code next to the trans/axle part....?

edit: also what makes you think that a w58 is stronger then a w55? just curious to know. w57 was RUMORED to have larger bearings but other then that i have not seen any evidence to show that any model is stronger or weaker then another.

ecko
8th December 2010, 10:17 PM
yeah build plate also said w58,

the only w58 that was stronger afaik is the ma70 and jza80 steel case,
the rest are all the same strength only different ratios, i can check the bearings at work tomorrow

ecko
12th December 2010, 04:50 PM
slowly getting there few bits of wiring, fuel setup, exhaust and rear brake upgrade are all thats left

A bit OT but how did the 2SC actually go in that thing?

Looks sick man, shows you can have a cool looking sled but still be low profile.

Bustin_86
12th December 2010, 05:24 PM
Will you be moving the engine back?

ecko
12th December 2010, 06:38 PM
engine is already 30mm further bacl the it really should be theres no more room to move,

2sc wasnt too bad it had enough guts to tow a s13 on full car trailer up one of the steepest highways in the area
once they start to wear out tho they're shit

ecko
16th December 2010, 07:17 PM
getting very close to done now
exhaust needs making/fitting from down pipe back
only minor radiator bits and ecu mountung to be done

amazing toyota interchangabiliy meant
jza80 throttle cable worked fine
ma61 fuel tank fitted fine

moved under 2jzge power today

A bit OT but how did the 2SC actually go in that thing?

I had one in my corona, auto, with 240k.
It was a complete slug but had a surprisingly fun rev-band.
And after valve-bouncing it for approximately 10 minutes on the spot on several occasions, it was still completely fine. Toyota tough :)

On topic, you work so fast man, love it.

ecko
16th December 2010, 07:52 PM
cant make anyclaims for the fast work,
allive done so far is fit acel cable and interior trims

oil dipstick, not properly fitted needs new oring and fitting to side of manifold,

replaced coolant flush with toyota red- Will try to do friday arvo
Replace oil- got some standard toyota atm just cleaning out motor replacing with mobile 15-40 semi synthetic replace filter too

Drive belt is squealing like a mother bitch, unsure what to do there the belt is routed wierdly due to no PS but running AC any ideas?

new radiator soon. thermos also not working atm hopfully just a faulty relay,

brakes still soft will try bleeding again, again, again

also odometer trip meter wont reset strangely ,but would do fine before conversion

was there any tunnel and firewall mods?

standard extractors with custom downpipe,
no firewall or tunnel mods

ecko
18th February 2011, 04:45 PM
no real updates at all, bout to start a new job earning some decent money so i can start killing my shopping list,
koyo 2core radiator (very close to standard thickness but 40%more cooling)
2 craig davies 12" thermo's
some guages
r31 diff with disc brake
ae86 coilovers

all providing it doesnt sell,
After around $5.5k if anyone is interested,

may swap

Konakid
18th February 2011, 06:48 PM
Go f series, can get LSD's that actually work + better ratio's.

ecko
19th February 2011, 05:57 PM
going r31 as cheap. already disc brake meaning dont need to spend hours converting to disc, plenty around, aftermarket lsd available

anyway the car got some track time today see below for results

R31 rear brakes may as well not be there.
To get a working R31 rear handbrake you need to do a hydro with R32/commodore brakes. Trying with standard is completely useless.
What i'm trying to say is, KEEP THIS.

arrex7
20th February 2011, 09:28 PM
id assume you still got drum on this? id just look at converting your diff to disk with the corona discs piece a piss to do i converted my corolla to disc rear.
havent blown the rolla diff yet but then again i dont do full rev take offs.... i dont need to and it still spins easy.

ecko
21st February 2011, 05:04 PM
hmm my diff is not very happy,
strangely anytime after a skid session it locks its self for a while after, and i mean fully locked skipping everywhere,
today 2 days later still the same, its a completely standard open centre which is strange

any other diff ideas then?
maybe vovlo?

arrex7
21st February 2011, 08:01 PM
hilux seem to be a popular one ive heard them to be referred to as a poor mans 9 inch. you would have to weld you trailing arm mounts on it but i spose after that should be good.

ecko
21st February 2011, 09:51 PM
i need disc rear end tho,
plus hilux to disc conversion is a rediculously hard task afaik,

welding mounts is simple

arrex7
21st February 2011, 10:07 PM
didnt think of the disc bit was thinkin more of 5 stud easier for wheels. but convering them to disc. hhhhmmmm i would have a play down the wreckers got somthin like u pull it were you live?
cause i would think hilux diff and maybe ford discs and backing plates for the calipers? havent tried just a thought.

ecko
21st February 2011, 10:37 PM
dont want or need 5 stud ,
old school 4 stud wheels are the only thing this cars getting

local testing of this vheicles/celica drive train be it 2/2.4 litre prove that the brog waner diff and gearbox as not strong enougth for the engines power ... this was after they had sold milons of them...

ecko

ecko
5th March 2011, 08:58 PM
nah BW turbo's are insane very high quality and awesomly responsive,

ecko
19th April 2011, 06:51 PM
3rd BW down rear end sounds like a train on train tracks,
F series tarago diff being picked up this week, hopefully in within the fortnight

ecko
1st May 2011, 03:21 PM
just a quick snap of the F series before any corona mounts were fitted, we found the tarago spring mounts were only 5mm out so we just left those on,
got the top trailing arm and panhard rod mounts on yesterday will hopfully finish it off during the week

ecko

Forgot to mention I weighed this yesterday too
1026kg with a 1/4 tank and ne in it
Will re weigh once f series is in

Pidgey
8th May 2011, 11:03 PM
Wow, that's lighter than I thought!
Have you removed sound deadening and all that jazz?

Konakid
8th May 2011, 11:45 PM
What??? They weigh 1135 stock!

Might go weigh mine, thats really really light...

ecko
9th May 2011, 11:31 AM
yeah agreed it didnt seem right but that was at a quarry weigh bridge where they make money on how much the car weighs so you's think it would be right,
my car has full interior its not stripped at all,
ive always thought the 2jz and w series box was lighter than the 2s and bw crap but never known for sure

ecko
10th May 2011, 12:30 PM
hmmm according to wiki a standard rona should weigh 1165kg so im thinking the chick at the weigh bridge was meant to tell me 1260kg even though i asked her "are you sure that doesn't sound right"
so ill go with 1260kg until i can prove otherwise so factory weights are done with a empty car with no fuel or fluids etc so you would assume a fully fueled and lubed corona would weigh about 1250- to 1260 anyway
so im happy with that

Pidgey
10th May 2011, 04:25 PM
Lighter than my R31 with loads more power and I'm guessing similar weight balance.
THAT WOULD BE AWESOME.

ecko
10th May 2011, 09:47 PM
diff is in and i made it home, bad vibration from the tailshaft tho,
as the f series is 30mm lnger at the snout it seems to have effected the tailshaft angle so ill chuck some spacers under asap to try fix it,

also i hate weldies soooo much understeer

ecko
9th June 2011, 08:17 PM
Ive finally had a chance to enjoy this car and spend some time driving it how its meant to be driven as its not going anywhere soon (its for sale) here are my plans

Full 100k Service- T belt pulleys, idlers, tensionor, seals and waterpump
rear main with new Feramic 6 puck clutch
Ma61 Lsd with Billet shims (In the post next week) + new wheel bearings and diff bearings
Ae86 Bc coilover kit (weld on type)
Depo 52mm white face Water and 60mm Tacho Gauges
then if i really decide to splash out 15x8 Rota Grid V Colour undecided

Other than those few things which are mostly not needed just small luxury's I want to make the car complete for me(before going turbo that is ;) )

The car is great for daily duties and a good thrashing doesnt mind the odd highway rolling drag race either
