View Full Version : End of March Touge/Hills Cruise

Intense
22nd February 2010, 02:27 PM
Start of April I'm organizing a day cruise through some real mountains, either some really hardcore stuff or just a nice cruise depending on what the consensus is.

At the moment the options are:

1) Donna Buang via Warburton Highway (Long)

2) Black spur onto Lake mountain (Longer)

3) Black spur onto Reefton Spur (Longest)

With all of these you've got the option of Mt Dandy Tourist road on the way back.

Probably going to be a 10:30 am meet and 11:30 depature. BYO foods unless you want BBQ at Donna Buang or Lake Mountain if they have the facilities. And Hopefully a finish up around 4pm-5pm

Make sure you're car's are cleaned as there's some cool photo opportunities at Lake Mountain and Donna Buang, Get some cool shots of your car in it's natural habitat.

Bring the usual, CB's, Food + drinks, your self + mates and whatever else you can stuff in your car.

Anyone is welcome, so invite your mates and let's get some diversity going. Anyone who likes driving is welcome to come, just don't try any crazy crap or showing off because things can go wrong very fast up there and there will be tourists on these roads.

Anyway this is in planning now so let me here your ideas.

*Edit*
Changed the date to the following weekend, 3rd of April beause the F1 is on throughout the previous week

Saturday 27th of March, lock it in.

We'll be meeting at 10:30am. Meet and talk crap till about 11:20am and we'll head off towards Healesville for our petrol stop, fill up coz you're going to need it.

After that we'll be heading through the black spur onto Marysville onto Lake Mountain. Have lunch at Lake mountain and then we'll head down and take Reefton spur to Warburton. If everyone feels good then we can head up Donna Buang or we can just keep heading back.

Finally we'll come back via Lilydale and can either disperse or if you live in that direction, go back via tourist road.

You'll want to bring food/drinks, a melways or map. I'll give you all mine and Harley's numbers incase you get lost.

You'll want to bring plenty of spare tyres and a jack. I'll give you all mine and Harley's numbers incase you get lost.

Fixed a few things for you man. You had some spelling mistakes.

I agree - and to add to point a) maybe there will be less people on the roads too (I know it's unlikely. but still). Should be next weekend on the original "locked in" day.

Can't please everyone so it's going to be the new date. Gives people more time to prepare their cars and a higher likelihood of more people attending because of this.

I hate to say this but I might not be able to make it, cars having electrical problems. Kept dieing on me throughout the week so I got a new battery for it, but now the headlights won't come on, suspect it's the headlight relay but they're not a standard square relay, they're a wierd round one so I'll have to goto toyota and grab one. Might also be my alternator so gotta check that in the morning. If the alternators pumping charge out I'll be there, otherwise I hope you guys have a good meet.

Well three turned up at the start, 2 86s and one FJ45:

Only one left for the hills but we found another hachi just out of Healesville. Here's the top of the Dom Dom Saddle:

Then it was on to Lake Mountain:

http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~cbjaust/images/AE86DC_Cruise_03042010/DSCN3697.JPG

On the way down the Reefton section we caught up to a couple of landcruisers (again) so we waited for a bit:

http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~cbjaust/images/AE86DC_Cruise_03042010/DSCN3709.JPG

We wound it up with some lunch in Warburton:

Next time can more people actually turn up? Perhaps it was because it was easter weekend? Surely there are more AE86's out there...

Anyway we had some good runs up and down Lake Mountain and the trip down Reefton: the black spur was a little slow with traffic on the way up.

KurtHS

Well I saw a ton of cops in town (Healesville) but not one on any of roads in the entire route of the cruise, which was probably two and a half hours plus, easily.

4agejet, that's just a stupid comment really, you'd be surprised how many 86 owners are actually 30 and over and the thing is they're the blokes who can out drive the younger dudes and also know their car and engine inside out.

Chris ("guy with sunnies") could really drive, I sure as hell wasn't going to push it to keep on his tail, for the record I'm 18 but I wouldn't call myself a slouch behind the wheel, not great but not bad, and from what I've read I gather that you're young and you don't and have never owned an 86 so unless you drive karts or something similiar I highly doubt you could keep up with Chris.

i find the older people have a lot more knowlege and seem to be more chill people. (people like Sam Q, DavisJD, Hen etc)

i mean this in the most polite way, and am saying it as a compliment to the older people, not as a put down to the younger people
