If it is a while from now I would be keen. I could help sort out venue if you need it Nicko. (Mt Cotton or Willowbank)

Nicko
9th March 2010, 04:45 PM
If we can go to Mt Cotton (without involving SDT) then I am keen.

blair
9th March 2010, 05:04 PM
If rob got kicked off, then i am fucked.

Nicko
9th March 2010, 05:20 PM

trikzlane
9th March 2010, 07:00 PM
can you slide at mt cotton?, i didnt think it was allowed

blair
9th March 2010, 07:26 PM
Skid pan
The skid pan consists of a manoeuvring area for light vehicles and a figure-eight shaped concrete circuit layout. This allows drivers to understand the causes and effects of skidding in wet or dry conditions, and how to control skids.

The skid pan area includes an undercover observation area and an amenities block.

from here (http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/Home/Safety/Road/Driver_guide/Education/Rs_driver_guide_mt_cotton_training_centre#i)

I'll give them a call tomorrow if i get a minute just to suss it out.

I just sent an email to these guys (http://www.murcotts.com.au/murcotts/home.sok)

They are listed as one of the companies that use mount cotton, and they do "special events" (whatever you wanna do really)

see how we go. I know a couple of mates have slid there before, but they don't really know any details about how it was arranged etc..

trikzlane
11th March 2010, 08:08 AM
so wats the go, any news

I've been out to Mount Cotton Skidpan about 11 times.

SDT run a course, but it comes with a hand up your butt. They don't let anyone drift.

Also, at mount cotton, vehicles have to be 90DB or they tell you to park it. Fucking idiot residents complaining about living near a motorsport track...

Low Style
11th March 2010, 01:04 PM
i went to MT cotton and drifted a WRX lawls - its good but they are strict on noise due to old people whinging 3 kms away.

Riverside
11th March 2010, 03:38 PM
For the record guys, the "No drift", and "low noise" rulings are put in place by Mt Cotton training centre/ Qld Gov. SDT are forced to ensure drivers adhere to the rules.

Put simply, it is NOT SDT's fault you are not allowed to slide.

Conducting anything at Mt Cotton, regardless who you do it through will end the same way. Regardless of the promises they make over the phone, when they have Roger looking over thier shoulder the entire time, they have no choice but to enforce the rules.

That being said, there are other options. If your keen to have an event on a DRY surface (Unless it rains) then i am certainly able to help there, Hell i might even be able to wet it down now that they have full water tanks :). That venue has ZERO noise restrictions, and you are there to slide, no ifs or buts.

Unfortunately there is not much in the way of a wet skidpan locally that doesn't impose the noise restrictions. Lakeside has restrictions, Gympie has restrictions and is a long way away for most, Mt cotton is out etc etc.

Nicko
11th March 2010, 03:46 PM
Yeah, I wouldn't mind doing something with the LVMA area one day...

stx-16
11th March 2010, 05:49 PM
can it pretty please be a wet skidpan *cute baby face*

Nicko
11th March 2010, 05:53 PM
Newsflash, my RS Turbo doesn't break traction all that easily, even in the wet.

If its a skidpan, it will be WET :)

Paul
11th March 2010, 06:48 PM
make this happen :)

Riverside
11th March 2010, 06:53 PM
Would you like me to check with the venue to see if I could wet an area down for this? keeping in mind it would be wet, but not as slippery as Mt Cotton (They have diesel).

At least that way there is no fear of noise or drift restrictions................ :)

blair
11th March 2010, 07:30 PM
Yer do it man!

diesel FTL, water win lol

racsov
11th March 2010, 07:32 PM
are you talking about the carpark you use for your trainign days? if so that would be hella sick, alot more fun then a normal flat skidpan cause its got bumps and shit, surface is rough as fuck tho so wetting it down would be good

trikzlane
11th March 2010, 07:43 PM
what is the said place???

Yes my name is Nico (no "k").

Yes I am talking about the area I use for my drift training days. For those of you that are not familiar, i have included a link to a few videos of previous events.

I have sent off an email to see if wetting this area down is an option or not. I will let you all know as soon as I know. :)

stx-16
12th March 2010, 03:05 PM
hmm im pretty sure it is to

Nicko
12th March 2010, 04:24 PM
LOL. Thats the gokart track.

What you should be more interested in is the autocross track next door :)

I've driven that in my old AE71 and it rawks

Riverside
12th March 2010, 06:03 PM
Yes that is the Kart track................ Not engineered for full size vehicles. They simply will not allow us anywhere near it.

The dirt track next door is a bit of fun..........provided your car is a beater and you don't mind spending the next 3 weeks cleaning mud off your underbody.

My main reason for suggesting water is because most people here have underpowered cars. I have had a few modified KE70's with 20valves/ECU's etc etc attend these events and they struggled doing that in the dry. So the 16V people are gonna get awefully frustrated when thier car can barely turn the tyres.

Going on a rainy day would be ideal.............However, we can't know when it is gonna rain 8 weeks ahead of time.

Have not yet had any word about this, but as mentioned, as soon as I do, I will let you all know.

trikzlane
12th March 2010, 07:08 PM
sweet, im keen as, pfffff 16v's can bake, 1st lol but ill give it a try

stx-16
18th March 2010, 08:00 PM
i hope so it will be awsome

Juturna
20th March 2010, 01:10 PM
immm keeeeeeeeennnnn, if you need help organising just ask!

Riverside
22nd March 2010, 02:54 PM
It looks like wetting down that venue sufficiently for it to be useful is not gonna be an option :(

So DRY could be done, though probably not ideal for the vast majority of members here.

OR.......... A different venue. Provided the noise levels can be adhered to, perhaps Lakeside is the best option.

Jacobxxx
22nd March 2010, 07:52 PM
yep im down 100% and i know 3 other people that im sure will go aswell

me?
get your girlfriend to two my car and ill take mine ;D

stx-16
22nd March 2010, 08:28 PM
yes you bitch tits

ca18ae71
24th March 2010, 08:38 AM
im still keen as has there been any breakthroughs with date and venue, i need a few days notice to weld.... i mean put my two way in

Riverside
24th March 2010, 08:53 PM
Well I am officially out of the game when it comes to a venue. I have not held events at Lakeside, or even driven there since it re-opened. So i would prefer aomeone more familiar with it be enlisted to ensure everyone gets the best out of the day.

Hoping the thread starter has some news.............. maybe???????

ca18ae71
24th March 2010, 09:17 PM
what about archy ?? pretty sure u can hire that or gympie skidpan , lakeside is pretty strict about noise

mm.mitch
24th March 2010, 09:32 PM
I'm definitely keen regardless of venue. Mt Cotton would be ideal, but noise regulations are very strict there. If it was at a dry venue such as archy, would that make many people not want to participate?

ca18ae71
24th March 2010, 09:41 PM
fire hose ftw or i will be ninja in the diesel tow car and dump 40 liters or fuel everywhere lol

stx-16
25th March 2010, 11:23 AM
or the under powered guys can move there window squirters to the rear tires and fill the washer bottle with cooking oil im keen

Riverside
25th March 2010, 11:13 PM
stx........thats gonna be ALOT of cooking oil.............. there aren't too many here with cars that aren't underpowered haha.

For a fun, Social gathering, I reckon Lakeside would be the best option............. They aren't too harsh on noise out there, your cars are regoed, surely not everyone runs the gauntlet everytime they drive thier car for the sake of having thier car loud.

stx-16
26th March 2010, 11:56 AM
im a cook i can get a lot lol

Oly AE86
2nd April 2010, 09:03 AM
Was at lakeside last weekend just lapping the track. They can't let more than 70db at the front door of the closest resident, who lives behind turn 1. They let 40 or so dirty nissans hoon around without trouble, but I spose the turbo cars are quieter.

Have been on the pan at Mt cotton with SDT when I was NA 20V, noise was ok and they don't use diesel anymore (something about environment) so just using water was more realistic

mm.mitch
2nd April 2010, 09:50 PM
My 16v was too loud at Mt Cotton, which i think is pretty quiet and never had any issues from cops about it. So i think sound will definitely be an issue there.
Is the skid pan at lakeside just as bad?

Riverside
3rd April 2010, 12:27 PM
I was told 2 days ago that the training facitilties at Lakeside are REALLY expensive. If that is correct, either there needs to be alot of drivers to keep the cost down eaning less drive time.......... OR everyone pays about double.

To be honest I wouldn't be exceptionally keen for either of those options :(
