Hey i bought a mig from a workmate, its a 120amg gas/gasless welder, but I want to use it with gas. Where do i get a bottle from? i know Boc Gases make them, but do i need to get in contact with them, or buy it through a reseller? Also is 120amp strong enough for work other than panels? I mostly bought it for rust repair, but would like to do a bit of fabrication too, such as seat rails and rollcages, etc.

You usually rent the bottle from BOC, and pay per refill. Its about $120 a year for the bottle hire (paid quarterly), and around $75 for a refill of argoshield light (normal MIG gas). You can also try Linde, Air Liquide and SupaGas for a price comparison but they're all pretty close. You'll probably need to buy a regulator as well, about $120 for a decent one.

120 amp is a little light on but should do panels and light fab work up to about 4mm thick steel, so its enough for most car work - just.

Use a shielding gas with a little more CO2 in it for more penetration.
I changed from argoshield light to universal gas and my 175amp welder loves me for it.

I would love to hook ya up but I cant as Melbourne is not my area or state.i only do my area in Sydney.Go to your local BOC outlet and ask who your local rep is.talk to him he will be able to load your account with some type of discount,as for the rent everyone has to pay it,even our multi million dollar contracts pay the same ammount for bottle hire as you do.

Cheers

If your going to spot weld the chassis go the Argosheild light,I done my whole car with it and had no problems with penetration or burning holes into the panels.
