that is fair enough.

i am a big fan of apple computers(mainly the OS) but i would rather one of these cheap knock offs than a genuine ipad, as you have said i dont actually see the point of them, they are designed for portable media but don't support flash. EPIC FAIL.

driftke70
10th June 2010, 01:22 AM
and its a pain in the ass to put the media on, and then you cant get that much on there.

like 1200 bucks is ALOT of money, you could go see a movie every month for 5 years.

thats effectively 1000 dollars more than the knock off, and the knock off has everything that the ipad doesnt.

people can say "yeah well thats just a cheap chinese knock off"

they are both made in china, even if the ipad was twice the price.

don't worry they will upgrade to iPad2.0 which will still be shite, morons will upgrade, this will keep on going until about iPad10.0 where it will be a good thing, in the mean time, morons will be upgrading each time as the new iPad has an extra whatever on it and their life will not be complete unless they have it!. Apple will be rolling in cash!

just read this page
http://www.apple.com/why-mac/

few quotes from their website
"Is a Mac reliable?

When you buy a PC, you’re buying hardware from one company and an operating system and software from other companies. Not so with a Mac. Because Apple builds both the computer and the software that comes with it, they’re literally made for each other. This means that a Mac rarely freezes or crashes. Occasionally an application might quit, but it won’t affect the rest of your system. And Mac OS X resists most viruses, so you can do anything — without worrying about losing everything."

"Experience a better operating system.

Everything that was second nature to you in Windows XP won’t be with Windows 7. So if you’re going to learn a new operating system, why not learn one that’s highly secure, loaded with advanced technologies, designed to be simple and intuitive, and delivers incredible performance and stunning graphics? It’s called Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and it’s what makes a Mac a Mac."

people dont sit at cafes with their 450d on the table playing music while they sip a latte.

I don't really understand the vendetta with people sitting in a cafe with their computer or phone.... Usually when I go to have lunch or food or coffee somewhere I put my wallet/phone/carkeys on the table.
To add to that starbucks and most cafes have free wifi. When I was in Japan we pretty much planned most of the trip as well as accommodation, transport and research on each town on my laptop, in a starbucks cafe because none of the hotels we were staying had had free wifi. A lot of people work out of their laptops inbetween jobs. Most good wedding photographers in cities will have a pre-consult with potential clients, and they almost always choose cafe's as meeting points (for a neutral atmosphere), and they bring their laptop to show a digital portfolio of work, as well as a whole bunch of legal documents. Do you consider those people to be 'posers' or 'hipsters'?
How exactly is this bad or inconveniencing you in any way?

And with the 450d on the table/coffee thing - you obviously don't know the camera scene too well. Here's a thread off my favorite camera forum (www.rangefinderforum.com):
http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=897&highlight=camera+coffee

The thread is called 'camera and coffee' and it's safe to say it's pretty popular - 3700 posts and 246,985 views of just pictures of gear with coffee.

How many porsche drivers buy a porsche because it's a luxury car brand and signifies success. In fact I'd wager that like 80-90% of luxury cars are like that. How many 350z's do you think were bought because it's a 'sports car' despite the owners never using it as such. A good number - as the high sales of auto 350zs would show you.

And yet you don't hate audi bmw or mercedes or porsche, and you dont hate 350z's. You can't be selective with that sort of stuff. You can't see a guy with an acer computer in a coffee shop and think nothing of it, and then see a guy with a macbook in a coffee shop and say "they're just doing that to show it off"

driftke70
11th June 2010, 04:29 PM
i dont hate people with computers in coffee shops, i dont know what gave you that idea,

i hate it when people just go there for the sake of doing it, ive used my netbook at a coffee shop before cause i wanted to get out the house and study and wanted coffee.

but i wear headphones, am not in anyway invading anyones bubble.
but people with iphones sit there and make sure people know they have one.
you might not notice it because you have one but i sure as hell do. it gives me the shits.
its not a bad device, its marketing is what makes me not like it. The users that have them make me not like it.
All apple owners have put me off apple products, in the same sense that s13 owners have somewhat put me off owning an s13.

its the same with fixies, people dont have a fixie because they make their life easier, they have them cause they wanna be seen on one,
like you see people take them to car parks and just roll around on them and shit.

the people at uni with macbooks dont sit in lectures and take notes, they show pictures to the people next to them and talk the whole way through a lecture. Why did they bring it?

Ive been to start bucks the other day, a girl was playing music as loud as her iphone would go and her friends were dancing in the store, it was a joke. They could do that with any number of phones, but it just happened to be an iphone, its a different personality type, a self conscious attention seeking looking for approval personality type.

when people talk to me about computers i say i have a lap top, i dont say its a toshiba, i dont say its a satellite pro or something, why do mac people have to call it a macbook pro, why do they call their phones iphones, i dont walk around my house saying to my gf have you seen my n97,

it computer can be good looking, it can be stylish and an accessory. But they take it beyond that, it becomes them, and they live for other people knowing that.

like you using the term "slick" to describe an os just makes me groan so bad.

i dont want to be part of that, i know i could own an iphone and use it, i would enjoy it, there are thing i wouldn't like about it but that goes with everything in life. i know i could use it without flashing it out every 2 seconds and making sure people know i have one, but i just dont want to.

if i had a 350z people would know i used it properly by the rims it had, its stance, the black tyre marks down the rear quarter, if I had a porche it would be used for what it was built and other people around me would know that as i wouldn't drive around thinking im daddy cool.

all you saying when you talk about people buying auto 350z are just exemplifying how annoying those people are, its good for nissan, but its not good for me is it.

it would make it worse, manuals would hold resale more.

its the same with fixies, people dont have a fixie because they make their life easier, they have them cause they wanna be seen on one,
like you see people take them to car parks and just roll around on them and shit.

99% of the bikes that you think are fixies are probably single speeds, and you happen to ride a single speed bicycle yourself. haha.
Single speed road bikes are low maintenance, lighter, have less drivetrain loss and look cleaner. Fixed gear's are mainly for novelty though a lot of guys use them to train to get better at carrying momentum through corners and improving pedaling technique.
I think the large population of people in major cities all around the world that ride single speed road bikes as a means of commute every day would probably disagree with your sentiment. And if you think Australian cities love their fixies/SS's, you should see Tokyo.

I'm beginning to understand that you have a problem with aesthetics for the sake of aesthetics. Sometimes shits just gotta look good man - just accept it. Otherwise you can always wear a loin cloth and live in a shack - no less functional than underwear or a house.

driftke70
11th June 2010, 10:16 PM
when i say im going to play my xbawks i dont say it in places where other people can here me and make a point of people knowing I have it.
also there are a handful of gaming consoles and its not an every day item,
if you said your going for a ride on your bike i would immediately know what bike your talking about,
if i said im going to go play games in my bed room, i could mean anything.

if you said your on the phone, does the person asking or listening care if its an iphone?

if i said im going to play my gaming console, thats a lot longer than saying my box.

its a different situation, you tend to bend things to other situations that are nowhere near alike.

its like if I ask for a calculator, i dont say, pass the texas instruments,
90% of the time i do say work on my car, not on my corolla, and the people I talk to know its a keto already so if i say keto its not being a douche bag.

if i go for a ride i never even mention my bike, if i do I call it my bmx or beemer.

needless to say its a pointless arguement, you obviously dont understand, one of those "from the outside looking in" things.
end of the day, i dont like apples products, they are needlessly more expensive, and have no gains for me or anyone im in contact with
the only reason i argue so much is because apple people just dont shut up about their shit.
people like chaos theory open new threads for the new ipod and shit, no matter who doesnt like their shit for what ever reason theres always some excuse why they should.
when was the last time a thread popped up about a new type of computer, or a new creative product, no.
when the hp slate goes on sale will it be on the news, in the news paper, 15 people crapping on about it on fb, no it wont.

I fucking love 135i's, did i make a thread when they came out, have I even mentioned them until now? no.

what matters to apple people, doesnt matter to 99.999999999999% of the world. Why should 100% of the world listen to their shit.

As I said before, you basically get what you pay for. It goes without saying that a lot of the money you pay for a genuine product is going toward the amount of software engineering the company had to do to get the OS or GUI polished enough to sell.

This argument seems to turning into the arguments between creationism fags and the educated (evolutionists). Creationisms god steve handjobs creates the iXXX and every bow down to it or be damned for eternity. And the evolutionists (other manufactures) came together to make something that people actually want, open to contributors and to work in a society without the rules and regs of one (IMHO retarded) being, jobs :P

Driftke70 I think your right, the Evangelical stance that iFags (people who rate apple) go on about to make themselves feel better about the features that they can only wish to have. And then they try to tout it as the newest and greatest thing to not only make themselves feel better but to stifle the competition from releasing products that are designed according to what the users really need and want rather than he like it or be forever ridiculed approach apple has.

Most of them are fixed. Beally was right about the people wanting to be 'seen/scene' on fixies. There is only a handful of riders pushing any boundaries. Theyre disgusting and it wrecks bikes.

letsgohunting
15th June 2010, 11:42 AM
I still like them - not fixed though, just SS. I'm a big fan of simplicity when it comes to bicycles. 'Cool' scenes don't bother me, I buy and use what I want to buy and use. I know what you mean about people wanting to be seen on them, but they still have their place.

I rode a surly steamroller around a few months ago and loved it. Not discounting something with gears or anything but man do I like the simplicity of a single speed drivetrain.

ke70dave, I didn't mean that to be a blatant attack at creationists and I'm not comparing a device to religion, I am merely pointing out that the arguments seem to playout in a similar way.

But I will say that if you refuse you or your children to be taught about evolution (happening a lot in american schools) and who knows what else while putting more worth on american history than Maths / english, can you really be considered top be educated???

i saw an ipad the other day in the flesh. i liked it. ill buy one, basically all i do is browse with my computer, it is the product i need (which i didnt know i needed till mac built it). i wont buy a generic copy because i cbf'd learning if its as good or better or as well warrantied. mac do everything well. software, hardware, marketing. their marketing is working, they now own a larger market share than Microsoft. im not going to hate on them for doing something well, and taking idiots money as well as smart peoples.

2 things im also going to mention. the Ipads i saw were owned by 2 of the most computer savy people i know. they do network security etc. they make 200k/year. they fixed the virgin fuck up and are now employed by that company as well as their other ventures. one of them said "i havent touched my lap top in 2 days".

the price difference is not an issue to me. this will actually be the first "computer" ive ever bought with my own money. also, arent they more like $800? its not a lot to pay for a device that does everything i want...

but i will wait for version 2.

at least take a look at some netbooks first, could save yourself 300 dollars and have better features.

if the browsing you do is all scrolling through forums and looking at pics and movies and stuff, then the lack of flash ability will be a serious pitfall for what you do.

someone that earns 200k a year can afford to run the risk, speak to them in a time period greater than 2 days.

in the end you like it still buy one by all means, if it works for you it works for you.

as an example, disable flash in the options of your computer now and go do the things you would normally do, alot of websites such as bmx sites and all run on flash, i would say its likely that 1 in 5 pages you visit will have a problem.

IF i had a lot of money and an established company (panasonic, sony etc) now is the time to attack ipad imho.
its new to the market and they are calling it a revolution (apple is) when infact its just an oversized iphone without the ability to call people.
as an established company i feel you could draw on apples current hype and showcase a better product and i think the better product would do pretty well.
you could play off apples hype and success to launch your own better product with things like USB andbetter processor etc.
