well we have thoroughly discussed the ipod phone, so lets have a look at the HTC equivielent.

2 i am looking at are the following:

HTC desire, which runs the android opperating system, costs about $700

http://www.htc.com/au/product/desire/overview.html

http://regmedia.co.uk/2010/03/31/htc_desire_2.jpg

or the HTC DC2, which is bigger and runs windows mobile. costs about $850

http://www.htc.com/au/product/hd2/overview.html

and a comparison of them all, from left to right. HD2, Desire, ipodphone

what are peoples thoughts on these, i know there was a bit of a discussion about them in the ipodphone thread, but i thought id make one dedicated to them.

Its awesome. I love mine and a lot of my friends are swapping their iPhones for desire / evo after playing with mine.

All the info you could want on the desire or any phone for that matter is on http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/140?&g=245

The best thing you can do is go to JBHifi and test all the phones you can there. No matter what anyone says you need to fore-fill your own needs and be comfortable with the handset.

BTW, if you want to use the desire on any network other than telstra, you'll need to import it form the UK. Cost me $620 including shipping and spare battery when they first came out and it runs on vodafone 3g awesome!!!

yer telstra have exclusive rights to it for the first 6months, i am unsure when this 6months started though.....

the other one that looks good is the "legend". which is a full aluminium case. pretty much the same thing as the desire, but yer with the alloy case. appears the only critisism of this one is that the alloy gets scratched easy.

hmm another phone enters the ring as a contender....

still amazes me these phones arent more popular, they seem to be heaps better than ipodphone.

what also amazes me is the fact that the htc desire (and possibly others) runs a 1ghz cpu......less than 3yrs ago my pc was only 1.3ghz!!!!

personally I would avoid windows mobile like the plague, but that's going off past experiences of it. It may have improved, I don't know.

the HTC windows mobiles have the Sense GUI running over the top of the windows interface, so a lot of the problems windows mobile 6 are not as annoying as if was purely win mobile.

It's pretty widely commented that windows mobile is crapola. I think at the moment they're up to number 6.5

http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/06/windows-mobile-6-5-review/

http://gizmodo.com/5374876/windows-mobile-65-review-theres-no-excuse-for-this

balmer himself admits it's not up to par

etc.

However, windows 7 mobile OS is coming end of the year and it looks pretty cool from 1st impressions

My previous experience is with some PDA's and friends mobile's. I havn't played with the latest incarnation.

FYI I currently use windows XP and 7. 7 is pretty cool, maybe it runs well on mobile?

For me android is great.

that windows 7 mobile looks interesting, looks like they have completely revised it. which i think they needed to do...
