Not much to say on this one so far... thought I'll put it up here... some may know the old Matt army green/previously black pig I owned or seen the old vids.

I was wanting to originally keep this conservative but it just isn't happening...

STUFF:

22re corona Avante model but LIVE AXLE DISC \o/ 3.7 rear end and some nice extras like aircon (oops took that out already) and central locking for a change. Oh and power steering, yes, it IS good.

Locker surprise surprise.

S13 front end.

G4 coil-overs, they seem pretty crap tbh but could be worse - 8.7kb/mm springs.

Falcodore rear king springs cut down - estimate 7kg/mm.

TRD ORANGE rear shox, adjust from drivable to ridiculously stiff :DD Have it set to max atm, i like i like.

SSR MKIIR rims... VERY VERY light, 15x7 +15 front 15x8 -10 rear, perfect offsets for a corona with s13 front end.

Home made fender braces.

2mm total toe in (for the purpose of stability on the street since its so stiff), +3 castor (pretty conservative we'll see how i go with this but good lock atleast), -3 camber.

Thats all for now, very basic.

Much more to come.

Plans?
SR20 or 3TGTE conversion.
Proper boxed in 4-link. I want to test parallel setups and anti-squat etc.

Suggest, discuss, flame, go :)

Cheers

Zac

edit* it was also nice to see a bit of effort put into lowering the front to the point where it''s actually tucking, i realise those corona guards are cut very high at the front

looks great man !

i think if you keep it tidy the police shouldnt be after you too much i guess. just dont paint it a crazy color or they might think its one of the ke70s that hang out with KProlin/cmerln etc and then defect the fuck out of you.

good luck in sydney too. cant wait to see more videos and pics of this.

whatever, they're already on the net long time... not that it matters since its all private or closed roads with local permission for the purpose of making a film.

not many plans really aside form making it nice to drift, i would rather just do bits n pieces as i go while reserving cash for track time, repairs, maintenance and tyres.

Man i used to love that green one, i was goign to buy it when it was up for sale but it was a bit too extreme. What colour is that green, "army jungle fatigue"? the blue one looks good too, love the subtle rear flare job :P

keiichi
2nd July 2010, 11:02 AM
lol thanks, yeh, my flaring skills are superior.
don't know the actual colour name it was a random mix we got at the shops... the plan was originally a 'midnight' green. but I wont be painting this one, don't want it to stand out.

fark that was 3 years ago, makes me feel so old.

we use to kill it if only i had put a locker in my car earlyer on.

keiichi
5th July 2010, 01:26 AM
haha yeh 3 years eh, i know what you mean.

locker or not you slid that thing good, i still clearly remember its last days (evening), banana car :P all drift cars have a very limited life span.

i'm surprised my old one lasted as long as it did, which promptly died when that other dude bought it.

my corolla was screwed from day one lol.

my gazelle lasted what, one track day before it smashed the wall.

good times.

i have only got standard... whitleline and such sell aftermarket stuff but if you're looking for something cheap i havn't actually found something from another car that will work yet... i would like to upgrade my rear swaybar though as its soooo tiny compared to the front.

i mean use extended/doubled shackles, has been done many times before, you could make one if you have access to a friendly spring maker and a forge.

IMO paint the grill black, take the sticker- thing thing off, and paint your wheel centres white :)
New ride hight looks good and functional.

keiichi
6th July 2010, 01:32 PM
do you mean the falls creek sticker thing?
was on there when i bought it :P
as far as painting it goes, i wouldn't mind stripping off all the plastic strips down the door stuff like that, replace the front bar with an ae82 (or something wrap around) one painted black, rear bar the streamline black type, the newer rear lights and paint the body white.

RRX-007
6th July 2010, 02:24 PM

got an alignment today, i highly recommend the guys at spinning wheel tyres for those of you in sydney... and had a decent drive in it too.... damn, its stiff, like maybe too stiff. but sharp, so prob worth it. turns in great, just a bit hairy along the rough old sydney roads.

keiichi
10th July 2010, 11:00 PM
hey man yeh its good to be back - but - not sure how to go about getting back into it practically. i want to slide but sydney is a whole new scene and track stuff is about as dead as melbourne unfortunately - even though i wasn't much of a track attender during my time in melbourne i wish to change that but it looks dim. theres the occasional peanut track thing at eastern creek... which... stupidly is at a time when it would be difficult for the working man to attend. 4.30 friday arvo work finishes at 3.30 atleast 1 - 1 n half hr drive due to fail traffic to get there, after a weeks labor and all you want to do is sleep... street skids? probably.

and lol no i dont miss the euro crap at all... the beema was 'nice' but no good for a drift pig.

will try foam filling the frame this week and making some PROPER bracing. the car rattles and squeaks so bad the suspension is too stiff for the body.

and will be getting some of this soon :D

I used insulation foam..... LOL.

was that just the stuff you get in a can meant for houses, like for eg sellys no more big gaps or something? where did you get it what kind of result did you get exactly and how much you use?

Pidgey
18th July 2010, 07:14 PM
Yep, it is exactly that stuff. I actually found it under a friend's bench, lol.
When I first had my corona you could hear the boot rattle before you heard the car, lol.
After using it, no more noise. One main point though, USE IT VERY SPARINGLY.
Shit expands so much, I had to wipe off most of it, leaving sticky residue on my hands for like a week. Nothing suss at all..

keiichi
18th July 2010, 07:18 PM
lol free ftw.
did you put it in the frame? like a-pillars n stuff.

you should hear the rattles in my car, its CONSTANT and when you hit a bump it goes SMASH! instead of a nice thump.

tried some aussie spec expanding foam today - total crap! its like fairy floss except toxic....

looks like i'll have to buy form the USA

*edit* found the real deal...

handi foam 2 part pack super rigid closed cell type, distributor found in aus, looks like im taking a drive out to st marys tomorrow \o/

using this stuff in the frame, from what i have heard and read, 30-40% increase in frame rigidity... almost as good as a cage. win!

They also have a factory outlet/warehouse in st marys (west sydney) you can go buy stuff from. they have 30 handi foam 30ltr and 50ltr 2 part packs in stock (II-12 and II-22)... its surprisingly cheap. and well worth a try for how much you will spend.

If done correctly, this stuff wont hold moisture and destroy your car either.

Even on some of the new nissans like the g35 or whatever it is they foam fill some of the frame and recommend handi foam for repairs.

will do the frame that runs around the bottom of the doors, the door pillars, the frame that runs along the top of the doors, and the two beams that run along the floor under the front and rear seats.

Don't put s13 front in this, will feel like arse compared to converted struts.

Looking promising.

keiichi
20th July 2010, 02:25 PM
too late marv, s13 stuff is in and i've been driving around on them for a couple weeks now.

feels fantastic! with already very good lock. a little bit of bump steer but that max drifto knuckle kit will fix that plus more lock and less ackerman.

i ran s13 front in my old corona, was really really good, so much front grip and control, could drift a round about (with practice) without touching the wheel. some people on here can vouche for my old ronas setup. it had like a 5kg front with agx shox and approx 7-8kg rear with sierra sports ryders.

a friend of mine in melbourne ran s13 front on two of his coronas, both handled ridiculously well for drift.

i ran s13 in my gazelle aswell, was also very good.... and on my corolla, which wasn't actually very good, but was still better then the ajps 8/6 with excel g setup it came with.

many people have tried s13 front with great success or failure, it depends how you do it, i know you had s13 in your ra65 i'm guessing it was something else to blame not your s13 stuff that made it handle bad (if youre saying it did that is since you dont like s13 front).

i will admit though, both my coronas we're horrible to drive around as a daily... i just got home from a 40minute there then 40minute back drive and i still feel like im bouncing all over the place.

http://img807.imageshack.us/img807/9879/dsc00127.jpg (http://img807.imageshack.us/i/dsc00127.jpg/)

i assure you thats not accident damage... its creased because the front suspension is so stiff.... this is why fender braces are so important.

i think i'll go buy some metal to make some bracing.

I ran it it mine and it failed. I had base adjustable etc. The thing to blame as it throws the geometry out by way too much, I'll never do it again. John on here went from S13 in his MA61 to custom toyota struts and he said it was awesome.

cant remember which is what but there is a thread on secretdrift.com about foam injection into rails

nothing is cracked in that pic... its definitely the right stuff.

and i'm not getting anymore delivered now because their whole batch was stuffed up. they don't seem keen on getting anymore in.

so, instead, make some bracing

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/8162/dsc00129m.jpg (http://img205.imageshack.us/i/dsc00129m.jpg/)

both sides done, feels more rigid already and less crashing noises when going over bumps, and I just went for a drive down the road.

yes i probably could of used smaller material but i'm always overkill with this stuff :P

Definitely not bending any time soon, that's for sure.

Lucky guards are going over that!

keiichi
23rd July 2010, 06:32 PM
yeh lol they only just fit over, i had to cut out some of the inside of the guard.

my dad actually had a really good idea, instead of making a strut brace, weld another bit of angle tube between the left and right fenders across the engine bay.

any ideas as to why this would be a bad idea let me know now before i get out the gear :P

You'd need to get the grinder out to remove it if you need to do major engine work?

keiichi

lol good point

Did your old Corona (pic's on the first page) have an 86 front bumper? If so, was it an easy fit?

it was actually a pulsar front bar... i took the old corona metal frame out, had to trim the pulsar plastic down a bit at the sides then just ziptied it on. nothing clever, just did it for looks and mostly part of the weight saving program.

for this car i would like to get an ae82 front bar i think, looks like it would suit.

its not pretty i know, i did it with a stick, i was actually having problems with the welding on that material due to it being painted galva. galva and gp sticks dont like each other very much so you have to 'burn' the galv with the stick then fill, makes it look nasty - but its very strong atleast. to mount it to the frame i used 'weldall' rods, a real treat to work with, very good peno and high tensile strength.

yeh i went overkill, i still have like 5meters of the stuff left and some flat bar. i want to make strut brace and boot brace but trying to decide whether i really want to use the large material... at the end of the day it will do the trick i guess... and i still have a pair of drilled out discs to go on top of the struts to form part of a bolt in brace.

you weld'ed the fender brace too the door hinges ?

what happens if you need to replace the hinges or the door, or if you want to realine the doors?

i did think of that but it doesn't matter to me.

the door can be removed without removing the hinges.
welds can be cut then re-welded.
not like ill be re-aligning the door with every service.
