Needs, like, 195/55 and a bit lower. Keep stock guards too! hangring needs to be inside.

Getting there though, I'm liking where this is going.

hmmmm but the hangring is a symbol. im not gunna go into it as i dont know the ins and outs, but look up bosozoku and shakotan style cars and read up about what it means to have one.
just advice, your best off having it inside otherwise people who know whats up will hate. dont take offence just letting you know. but apart from that your right on the money. looking foward to see what else is in store

30mm rears and 30mm fronts

Or cut and flare front and rear.

So what are you waiting for? slam it and camber those wheels in. Then maybe you could run that hang ring on the outside of your car without looking so stupid...

the front is camberd in as much as it can go unsure about the rear might be a bit of play left?
the amount of camber i would have to run to get them under the guards i would go threw tires
thats one of the reasons iam going bolt ons plus i like the look of them

looking great... bolt on flares at same colour as car + lower + no body kit is a winner.... still need to be lower though :)

5th July 2010, 10:00 AM
+1

lower profile tyres stretched, and wind the coilovers down as far as you can...

if i was lucky enough to own all that - thats what i would be doing...

still a very nice clean car mate...good work!

How does one go from a bagged commodore, to this?

You are close but you are missing the mark...

Was talking about this car to a friend, just had a look on boost and you said car was designed to be driven hard? What have you done to the suspension? Pics of you driving it 'hard'?

Needs less black roof, more low. 195 55 will make wheels fit better and no bolt ons.

This... Needs to be heaaappppsss lower.

Whats the hangring about anyways?

Needs wider guards and lower either way but looking good!

30mm rears and 30mm fronts

Or cut and flare front and rear.

This.. Really needs over fenders and full front guards and not bolt on guards.. Leave the rivets exposed, and have it just tucking tire, should be around 50mm under body clearance.

Just seems like you are trying as little too hard.. hangring should be on the inside until this is laying rail if you know what the hangring represents, which I gather you don't.

Overfenders and lower, do it. Will look 100x better, missing the mark at the moment.

i wrote that on boostloosing.

not everyone wants a car that low that it is undrivable.

i guess if you post a thread on that forum and now this forum expect to get some negative feedback.

this car is driven EVERYDAY and is not a track hack.
it is nice seeing a daily driven car on the roads these days.

yeah it would look a shitload better on 195/50s but at the end of the day this car drives like a car. 195/50s would ruin it.

Andy San
12th July 2010, 04:24 PM
quite honestly who gives a shit where the ring goes.

Marvis you have built some cool looking cars, but you are coming across as a total douche. This thing looks pretty cool already (about 1000x better than when he first got it)

There is something to be said for having suspension travel, because at the end of the day 99% of cars on bumpstops will handle like shit

Why not just tell everyone exactly the history behind hangrings?? Make a thread regarding??? That way the history is there for people into that stuff but otherwise it's just a ring for some and they put them on because they want to ;)

195/60. a little lower. overfenders. hang ring inside.

In regard to you camber/height/wheel size issues a few pages back (page 2 I think?). If you decide to keep standard metal you will be surprised how far you can get the guards out. I was running a 15x10 -12 with 195/60 on the back of my S13 with + 0.2 degress camber (yes, positive) and what I would say was low enough. All under stock metal quite easily. I just didnt like the idea of flares.

i understand where marv is coming from on the hangring concept, but if he wants to do it let the kid do it, but DONT CALL IT BOSO/shakotan STYLING, cause you car is far from it. i have added what they mean

THIS WILL HELP EVERYONE OUT.

Bōsōzoku (暴走族, "violent running gang") is a Japanese subculture associated with motorcycle clubs and gangs.
So, Bosozoku style cars should best be described as the cars driven by the Japanese gangs. This is partly true of course, but a lot of people actually like the Bosozoku styling as well eventhough they are not a member of a gang...

The zoku part in the word indicates it is about a gang. A lot of people use Boso as a word to indicate this style to not refer as the gang cars but the use of the word Boso would not make sense: violently running cars??

A lot of people also use the zokusha designation which is widely used in Japan. Sha means car so literally it translates into gang-car. So in other words zokusha is the best describing word for the bosozoku style cars.

The Bosozoku style is often referred to with a lot of different names:

Shakotan
Yanky style
VIP style
Kyusha style
Grachan

and also

Shakotan literally means "low car" and is used mainly for indicating extremely lowered streetcars with wings and big exhausts tips. The manga/anime of Shakotan Boogie features two brothers driving extremely lowered cars. One of them being a white Toyota Soarer Z10, hence the popularity of that particular car under Shakotan fans. This style is the mild variant of the Bosozoku style.

I just didnt like the idea of flares.

yeah the guards came out a fair bit hey.
that was like 5 seconds with a jack handle.
only problem is if we went anymore it would have stuffed the quarters completly without cutting ect.
i personally like the look of flared standard metal but he wants the flares. they will still look pimp.
i offered to cut the inside out of them and bring them out but he wanted flares.

if these wheels were a tad bit wider with the same tyres or even 195s they would fit under those guards with ease.
only prob, this is his only car and cannot afford to get defected ect.

Will look the goods with some sleek overfenders (not BN blister faggotry). I do agree, leave the hangring until its slammed - if you can hang it below the bumper and still have it inches off the deck, its too high.

Why not just tell everyone exactly the history behind hangrings?? Make a thread regarding??? That way the history is there for people into that stuff but otherwise it's just a ring for some and they put them on because they want to ;)
Well they are fucking idiots who just want to fit in... It's like wearing a war metal and not knowing what it was for..

i wrote that on boostloosing.

not everyone wants a car that low that it is undrivable.

i guess if you post a thread on that forum and now this forum expect to get some negative feedback.

this car is driven EVERYDAY and is not a track hack.
it is nice seeing a daily driven car on the roads these days.

yeah it would look a shitload better on 195/50s but at the end of the day this car drives like a car. 195/50s would ruin it.

The height and tire combo at the moment ruins it.

quite honestly who gives a shit where the ring goes.

Marvis you have built some cool looking cars, but you are coming across as a total douche. This thing looks pretty cool already (about 1000x better than when he first got it)

There is something to be said for having suspension travel, because at the end of the day 99% of cars on bumpstops will handle like shit

Base adjustable coilovers whaaat? You can have a s13 slammed and get aftermarket bits to adjust bumpsteer, raise subframe etc, so much easier then AE86.

keiichi

ok well, i asked marv what the hangring is about and went and did a bit of research myself.

in short, if you have a very low car, since the tow hook is at more or less the same height for most japanese cars of a similar era, and the rings are of the same length and 'free', people put them on to represent how low their car is... but you have to have it basically dragging on the ground before you are 'worthy'.

i used to run a toy off the back of my hook on my old car to show for those in the know that it is a drift car, this kind of thing imo is based on the shakoten culture, but even now when i have more knowledge about it i feel silly for running it.

you have to decide if you're running the ring for yourself or to represent... and it isn't 'just a hang ring' really... is it?

not having a dig at anyone don't flame :) just trying to help out in this heated argument.

all it means in aus is a handle on a train.
this is not japan.

to the whole 1% of the people that actually know the meaning behind the placement of it. who gives a toss.
i wouldnt put one on my car but does it really matter.
the point is i dont agree with most of the mods on half the cars on these forums but i dont fill there thread up with bullshit saying what symbol it is sending out.
who cares.

and to running 195s on his s13. not everyone wants to run a 195 on a car that almost weighs 1250kgs. if it was my car i agree with you but who cares.

Im going to go out on a limb and say, yes, you are having a bit of a go.

Yes, they were pretty Mex, but the guard DID cover the TREAD and with 81mm between the ground and a R180 diff I would say it was low enough.

And not that I feel I have to justify myself to you, I dont have any side on pics with the 10s as they were'nt on there long before this:

bolt ons will be too big especially if you run the 240Z ones.. I was running 17x9 -20 / 17x10 -50 on my old S13 and they just filled the flares with 235/40's (fronts had 25mm guards and the flares). Youll find that when you lower it more, you will gain heaps of negative camber in the rear and thos wheels will tuck pretty good without the need for bolt ons.. trust me on this.. ive molested more s13's than peter liddy has molested little boys..

Tough rig btw ;)

benzo

Won't need bolt-ons.

Rears will tuck in nicely once lowered. Fronts will fit better with a little more camber and more guard pull.

Boosted_S13

The front camber tops are maxed out but when it goes lower it will camber in still yeah?

Jdm-Mcc
22nd July 2010, 09:41 AM
Depends what angle your lca is currently, if your lca is dead flat and your camber tops are maxxed out, that is truely how much you will get, higher or lower then flat lcas is going to cause less camber as the strut sits closer to the centre of the car, lower it and it will all tuck in nicely :)

marvis
22nd July 2010, 10:48 AM
Get a slightly shorter LCA, like R31? You don't want to be running more then 3.5 camber up front, I wouldn't even run that on 195's.

Just lower it and give it a roll and it will be fine. Not much stretch on them and the wheels poke heaps, too much negative offset and not wide enough.

Cam cover is heappss sik.

Progress is looking good.

sorry for the repost my bad lol

haha yeah when mates come over the art work gets bigger lol

a set of 25mm spacer all round and lowering around 25mm in my opinion would make this thing pretty legit. The flares wouldn't of been my choice but they are still totally workable and I like it. Nice effort!
another 25mm spacer hey? lol
yeah thanks mate iam happy with the flares :)

on another note when i took the body kit off i found there was a fair bit of rust
under the left side skirt so its off to the shop tomorrow to get cut out
he said for me to take out back seats and side panel to cut costs down
