I just picked up this today, ive been looking for a tow car for a while and come across this its a 1990 Toyota Celsior. I cant believe what you get for the price of these things all the electrics work it is 100% stock and has all the orignal japanese books and service history. Its done 143xxxkm i dont really have any plans for it apart from a tow bar and trans cooler.

Looks good man. Whats the fuel economy like on this? Had considered one for a daily but was kind of put off by the 4lt v8 thingo

I'm still on my first tank of fuel so im not too sure what the economy is like ltr/100km, so far its not brilliant but i'm only a 10min drive from work each day . I'm going to reset the engine and trans ecu's next time i fill up apparently that can make a difference so i will see what happens.

Well the car is slowly coming along, I fitted new slotted rotors and pads to the rear today and am waiting on the fronts to turn up. I noticed the car has been fitted with ADR approved braided brake lines which is a bit of a bonus. I fitted a set of clear front indicators i got off US ebay which look a bit better then the old orange ones. I am also waiting on 2 new rear air struts which are coming from Rutherford & Bond Toyota in NZ they are half the price of my local CMI Toyota.

LOL

My rear airbags arrived today from NZ, I highly recommend Rory at Rutherford & Bond Toyota spare parts really helpful. These would have been around $1000 each from my local toyota dealer, ended up just over $500 each inc postage. Im not really looking forward to putting them in though.

The lower spec celsiors and lexus ls400's come with just springs and shocks and cheap coilovers are available, I just didn't want another harsh riding daily.

I fitted the new rear airbags today, it was a massive pain as heaps of interior trim had to be removed. The old bags were completely stuffed but the new ones feel great. Im hoping to have this ready to tow my KE to the HR annuals at mallala.

Hey mate, whats the best way to contact the boys at Rutherford and Bond?

I need all new struts before I start towing anything with my Celsior, mine dumps air no matter where I park it! had it sitting on a gutter the other day>@

I wouldn't bother putting another set of bags in if you're going to tow with it.

I wouldn't bother putting another set of bags in if you're going to tow with it.

I've done the research, and it will last long enough for me to get a couple of years out of it, I've never owned a car longer than a couple of years, I looked into getting aftermarket bags that are rated to carry heavier loads but that's the difference between $1000 for genuine, and $2500 for something that won't ride as nice as genuine but will last longer.

besides I don't plan on doing a lot of towing.

as stated before the boys at Rutherford & Bond are highly recommended, I ordered 4 new airbags coming in at just over $2200, Nunawading Toyota wanted over $3600 for the same kit! and would make me wait 30 days to get them!

I had an air pump failure on the way to work last wednesday, it dumped all the air out the system and wont pump back up now. I managed to limp it to work on the bump stops, hopefully get a chance to look at it over the weekend ad see what the problem is.

I fixed this a couple of weeks ago with a second hand air compressor only cost $100 and came with ride height sensors as well. I put some 17x8/9 +37 Rays Volk monsters on today, i really need to get a ride height controller to drop it a couple of inches.

I lowered the car this week by adjusting the ride height sensors, I couldn't get it real low but better then it was.

emptied the air bags before resetting the height ecu

Not a lot, I ended up getting a heavy duty towbar made up and fitted a trans cooler. I use it to get the ke to the track and its still my daily.http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/0/9/8/508781.jpg (http://s209.photobucket.com/user/J_318/media/tow_zpsdace97eb.jpg.html)
