Laptime gadget using GPS or beacon?

I'm aiming to remove human error in taking accurate lap times. Even if that human is a good mate, they are shit at pressing the button at the right time.

That and a 5hz GPS gives lap timing to +-0.2s compared to the Dorian DATA1/Natsoft system i have in the race car.

I think it depends on what you are looking for as well as the timer, there are some really good beacon timers that can be had for around $500, $800 gets you a gps based performance box which has more data analysis to look at. Really just depends on how much of a benefit you may get from the data.

A few weeks ago I used a similar item to the one Takai suggested. It belonged to a friend, so I don't know the details off my head, but can find out. It was accurate to within 0.1sec of printed race control times at Morgan Park. I used to for around 25 laps. Handy being able to break the track down into nominal sectors.
