guards all need a skim and a bit of paint, but these are much much better than my first set on the 86 :)

rear needs a BIT more room to be happy, but only a couple of mm more each side.

front left wilwood caliper is refusing to bleed. Everything went really well with the bleeding, but the left caliper just wont pump fluid.

needs a wheel alignment and will probably get a rise across the board, maybe 10mm all round. I love it this low, but i need to avoid upseting the constabulary as much as possible.

thanks for reading boys :)

oh yeah also cracked open my muffler... sounds like a vdub now lol

wheels are 8 -6 front i think and 8.5 -6 or -8 rear.

without the adjustable panhard rod its sitting a little off, but still think it needs another 10mm or so up.

front was PERFECT fit, but the wheels hit the coilovers so i had to run spacers. smallest i could find on short notice was 8mm, if anyone knows of or has some 5's help a brother out lol.

alright you judgemental shitbags.....

more underwater pics.

the lovely anna has been into me to get my shit sorted and have the cars ready o go to tass.

So the plan is to get the 86 running, then packed up and ready to get transported.

The silver sled is to be running as daily so when we sell annas red rocket of fury, we can still get around in styles mo fo...

so i have rearranged the "shed" to allow me the room to in and out the engine while i modify the mounts and then get the 86 running. It also means the lounge room is no longer the workshop, so i can throw a wall up and get the house ready for sale.

so i started here....

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/3/9/53821.jpg

then here...

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/3/9/53822.jpg

yes... moving a couple hundred kilos of engine up a hill by yourself on the grass in the rain is FARKINGSHITCUNTAWFUL

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/3/9/53823.jpg

progress of a kind....

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/3/9/53824.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/3/9/53825.jpg

and then i ate a BANNANA MAN.....

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/3/9/53826.jpg

and then set a new rear height for the silver sled.... pimpin?

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/3/9/53827.jpg

and the new daily.... chics love styles boys........

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/3/9/53828.jpg

in some of the pics you can see the final proper ride height for ke70.... made a bi more room in all the guards and raised everything 10mm, so there is a LOT less scrubbing.

still only have on brake caliper working though. The passenger doesnt want to bleed. at all. cant get any fluid out of the caliper at all..... still the one side braking is better than both the old ones :P

does anyone have any interest in helping me with my willwoods??? for the life of me i cant get the left caliper to bleed????

its killing me, i have tried like 6 times lol. There is fluid coming out of the hardline to the softline junction, so its not a blockage in the body lines. Sometimes there is a dribble out of the lowest bleed nipple, but essentially nothing comes out of the bleed points at all.

im sick of running round the car pressing the brakes and running back checking.... blah blah blah

also does anyone know if the "character line" of the ke70 is meant to be horizontal or not?

cheers lads....

got to play on the car today.

got a "both wheels pointing in the same direction" kind of wheel alignment.

sorted the passenger caliper bleed problem.

learnt the "hard" way not to rest things on the boot of the car when "massaging the guards"

all up successfull. if i have clearanced the guard enough, ill get to drive it to training tomorow :)

soooooo

been pissisting down here for a couple o weeks now. I had noticed in the rain that the car was ROOLY unsteady. Kinda knew all along that my "kinda in the same direction" wheel alignment wasnt great, so after a particularly treacherous run to the airport in the rain this morning, i decided to do something about it.

got me a bunnings spec wheel alignment jobbie... and blow me down, 28mm toe in. no wonder the lil things were not holding on so well

got it to 0 with my awesome dodgyness, but honestly could be + - 2 or 3 mm really lol. drove a lot better, but i do miss the light stearing at turn in :P

then onto the brakes.

Spent the afternoon playing with the drivers side caliper. Fresh of the boat the caliper never sat really straight. Actually it was all over the joint, off by about 3mm top to bottom. This had been compouded by me being lazy and just fitting it, and then the wheel bearings working slightly loose, prolly due to the above mentioned toe in situation.... and it was creating the most horendous noises at low speed ....along with all the other embaressing noises a ke70 with a hole in the zorst makes.

So yeah, not the cleanest solution i have ever come up with, but 2 small 316 srainless washers at the top mount and 1 small stainless washer at the bottom has her sitting almost perfectly flush.... and no more silly noise. well that silly noise anyways.

Engine times are a coming, as the 4k has quite a knock in the bottom end lol and a really leaky slushbox.

7age is the plan once i get the beams running in the 86.

Will be a simple enough build, 7a bottom with all cleaned and balanced crank and rods, blacktop pistons, blacktop head and adaptronic comp.

Have a sneaky plan to run a 6 speed, have to wait for the stars to align to see if it will work, but if it does, yay, if not, t50 will do for now.

Once i have either succesfully built that engine and all is good... or its shit itself cos i did something wrong, ill be building a more substantial bottom end with forged rods et all for a later move to forced induction. nothing crazy, focusing again on torque, but just something to toy with.

thanks for reading ladys, stay classy new york!

so are you all in tassy now or still kickin' it in brizzy?

love the silver ke70! it looks mad with the black wheels and super low.

so the caliper wasn't bleeding because it was so badly aligned when you hit the pedal it would only take the freeplay out of the bearing and not really clamp the pads to the disc...???

nice work on the wheel alignment too...hahaha 28mm toe in...did you still have tread left on the tyres, i gueass the wet weather we have had would act as a lubricant between the tyres and the road...

keep up the mad skills.

the property we had bought fell through on the day of settlement. Real estate agents are lying dog cunts for the most part.

stress is off for the sale of our house, so it looks like we wont be moving till it sells, around march / april if it all goes smoothly.

Caliper wasnt bleeding due to the confusion of the supplied brakes lines being incorrect/ retarded and the stock brake lines being able to thread into the caliper so far they bottom out. so backed it of half a turn and its all apples.

the brake issue relates mainly to the caliper mount, its was machined really off, the left side one is sweet...

meh in the end they are good brakes, but i guess there are no free lunchs??? it is cheap for a reason.

yeah the tyres are a bit chewed out, but i dont drive so much on a daily basis so it isnt as bad as all that :)

So back from the dead. In more ways than one.

This had been a dead thread for a long time. And there has been a lot of happenings since, though very little having to do with the ke.

I can only update from my phone for now, so the story will have to skip a few years lol.

Basically we moved to tassie. Met some great people. Met some real cunts too

But basically from the days I arrived in Tas my health started going pear shaped. We bought a Small hobby farm half way between Launceston and Devonport.

I started an apprenticeship as a metal fabricator for a small time racing fab place. Sounds awesome. But it was the start of a very bad run.

No details but eventually I moved on to compete my apprenticeship with a stainless steel fabrication joint specialising in chemical and food n beverage stuff.

Loved my job and was having a blast. Then the health issues stepped up a bit. Spent a few weeks in hospital and was diagnosed with epilepsy. A bit weird being 35 and diagnosed, but all the signs were there including a family history.

Had ongoing problems with medications and such, but just carried on, knuckled down and tried to finish my apprenticeship in one piece.

Then in September 2014 it all came crashing down. I spent a total of 6 months in hospital. I've had to relearn how to walk, how to talk, how to eat. Basically everything. I "died" a total of 3 times. I've had close to 20 operations. There isn't much left of me these days.

I don't mention this for sympathy. But it gives context to the rest of this build. During my illness, literally in the middle of everything, my son was born. And, in all likelihood he will grow up without a dad. My illness is stupidly rare. But basically the doctors give me a few years at most.

So first and foremost this car is a legacy for my baby boy. (poor kid. All the other cool kids Wil have electric floating cars to pick up chicks, Leo will be stuck with a pos corolla his mum won't let him sell lol) it's a bit nostalgic for most, but I really want to leave a tangible something for my boy. My dad passed when I was 15 and I have very little physical to remember him by. So while Leo won't "know" me as such, hopefully a silly little craps corolla will give him some insight into his dad and the things I loved.

Secondly, this also explains why I am doing a lot of the things I am doing. And how I'm doing them. Now despite what you may have heard on the bookface and from today tonight, the disability pension is not a gravy train. Lol far from it. So finding spare dollars to play with cars when I have a 2 year old and my wife has to care for both me and Leo, meaning the household income is literally below the poverty line, is very hard.

So EVERYTHING I do is based around repurposing and making the most of what I can and what I have and what people have been kind enough to donate :D (there have been one or 2 purchases along the way, but I'll cover those later)

Nothing you see in this build will be shiny and new and fit perfectly lol I'd love it if I could. But it won't be. It is a culmination of parts and things I had gathered before I got sick. And making the most of them primarily as a form of rehab. I've had a fair number of strokes and various damaging events, and while I have. gotten off very lightly in terms of side effects, they have slowed me down somewhat. So solving little problems is a good challenge, and helps me progress in a rehab way.

Sorry for all the ramblings.mm

As she currently sits.

The next listing is basically a short history of the adventures so far in getting my old girl ready for her new heart.

Before I got sick I purchased what I thought was a gen5 beams and gearbox. Turns out it was fwd motor and Nissan box. This is obviously not ideal, but it's what I have to work with.

I set about rwd the gen4. A bunch of the proper rwd stuff made it to the shed.

Due to my medical stuff getting under the car or doing a lot of up and down stuff or a lot of heavy lifting is very hard.

So I set about a Shit plan to fit the 3sge and 6speed box. I'm aware this plan is flawed. But it was the best I could come up with lol. So be gentle.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161121/b30eb7f90078777b3e3047bc0e933d70.jpg

So some strange fella actually wanted the 4k. #shrugs. Told him if he came and got it he could keep it and no backsies. So he did. :D in the pissing rain. Must have REALLY wanted that engine. So now I have a shell that is almost empty of big things. No engine, no box, no diff, (need to pull the petrol tank) and ready for some tlc before the heart transplant.

Back to my poor plan. Basically I had a spare crossmember and a 3sge engine. I knew roughly how they fitted from my build with the 86 and beams back in bris

So with HUGE amounts of Google imaging lol I set about mounting the engine to the crossmember without ever once going near the car lol.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161121/08666d1823a67d001978316a0e493880.jpg

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161121/691e9ff389bfe4e45d917c7959bc169e.jpg

I've given myself the freedom of 10mm spacers. Not ideal. By I can fit 10mm extra in my rca and it gives me a added bit if clearance for the gearbox. If I don't need em, I won't run em.

Once the engine was sitting happy with the crossmember - I basically went as far forward as realistically possible and clearanced the sump. This hopefully again helps with gearbox clearance, and means no firewall work as the heater has to remain (it's Tassie for fucks sake lol) I set about making an exhaust manifold. Again a lot of googling and measurements mean this has been made without going near the car lol. I will find out when I fit the engine if the manifold will fit or need adjusting lol

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161121/66d48de9f20f5073cbc21c6cbb49acfa.jpg

It's a not perfect selection of materials. The stock mild primaries matched to 2inch stainless secondaries into a fabricated taper and 2.5 main. All bits I had scavenged from work :D so it cost nothing :D well a bottle of gas because I fucked up and left it purging overnight cos I'm retarded lol

I also set about sorting out induction, now that I and exhaust notched up lol. With some awesome help from amazing mates, again this was a mod that cost me nothing but my own time...

Due to the spacing of the 3s cylinders, the throttles are too far apart in between 2 and 3. So I had to modify the connectors. So decided it was a good chance to modify things for a low pull throttle mod...

So been a while.

With a forced hiatus I had forgotten I had not updated some of the more amazing adventures I have had recently [emoji14]

So for those playing along. I am rwding a fwd 3sge. I'm also the cheapest cunt here.

So I had always intended to run the alt that came with the engine. I had a legit rwd bracket (huge ugly monstrosity of a thing) but it put the alt in a crap not fitting position.

I had day dreams off cutting up the alt to fit the bracket. But Google images saved me from that.

The bracket was made a while ago. It was ugly. But racing black covered it up fine.

And then I set about making the adjuster.

The thing on the right was the first attempt a few weeks ago. Ugly as fuck. Really Shit. Embarrassing. Then I stumbled on some random bits and Bob's to make a nicer version. That's the slightly less Shit version on the left.

In use. I need to find a belt. Seems to work well. It's not perfectly straight, but it's not off enough to notice really. And I fucked up a little bit lol. The rose joints I got (5$ woot!) Were metric 8mm. But the boss I planned on using in the block was m10.... So I had to get funky and make an adaptor cos I'm too cheap to buy the right size lol

And I can't find a pic lol. But basically just a right angle picking up a different boss with a correct nut welded onto the face... Can just make out the dodgy in the top engine side mount lol.

Not really. I have been planning this little adventure for a few months. Snatched a bunch of scrap steel from work ages ago. But have just not been feeling up to getting it all sorted.

Rear will probably take me another few months lol.

Was the first time I have used my gas setup on the mig. Goes good :D bit dirty with straight argon but all in all a happy thing.

The rotisserie is needed for me to be able to do any work on the rear end. While it's upside down I'll also do some stitch welding. What's people's opinions on spot weld vs inch on inch off welding ?

Thought I'd check. The car is 1600 at the widest (a touch under but I figured a round number was a good start lol ) so I will set the swivel at 850. The swinger on the car is close to centreline height wise and hopefully everything should be reasonably reachable without running out of turning over room lol.

If anyone has built one of these before and has any free advice or tips, feel free :D

Forgot to update this.

I'm really struggling. My condition has expanded I guess you'd say and I've struggled even in the stupid mild Tassie summer to achieve fuck all.

I know it's just sooking. But it really bugs me that I achieve nothing with my time.

Managed to weld up bendy boy.

It's tight fitting the 2.5 inch exhaust in the cradle. I didn't really plan it too well lol but I'll hard mount this section of the exhaust to limit any bashing and crashing https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191223/730bc2a944eac4b20a68cb9a09f968c0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191223/4c2b785156d76153191feb7c1a47afe0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191223/4a86f80897635273ac2beb0a3bd53847.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191223/c972588de7c545bbcba4415ddc01f827.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191223/783a608cfcb4ef811acd3e5d2e9a02be.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191223/1241d0a98e5971c331e6a8de1c6de30b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191223/ba57a37c2e8cb2c27fa7ba5f3ff2d41c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191223/bbdd4e829e022717920d338e6ea93787.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191223/de00f2cb7601bf6d5202d74277606d63.jpg

I was keen on some sneaky blockies after getting the engine started last Friday.....

Turns out I borked something in the clutch assembly, so she is now in a very sad state of disrepair...

I also managed to fucking stab the rear tail light while trying to manoeuvre her round the yard. Not a great couple days. Also crunched the fuck out of the sills on the ramps trying to get off with the starter motor. Lol. The joys of working alone I guess.

Hopefully its something simple in the clutch. Best bet so far is I fucked the throwout bearing clips to the fork. #shrugs

But its awfully close https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210222/3be86eb3b11061b2273b097e47e6d906.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210222/b0d504a7c455a0ca1174c9a48de791d4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210222/c92d3478115204488887cbf9dd6dfe96.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210222/c7c6736ae2c2966c8aea81e06b1dd736.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210222/bb034a0eca195602f541265a908c208a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210222/d85e8411542d73e144be83006da6e2a3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210222/b9f181e52b86943dc423ee88b0064cd2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210222/ff4a29d665f09e88bc3fee8f1c573881.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210222/e9ce791cf7b8ef499dfac29dbdccfa6b.jpg

Took the chance to sort out a small coolant t leak at the back of the head.

Wasnt sure if it was the gasket or the welds, so spooged em both #shrugs.

I was having lots of trouble with timing. I did some learning and some figuring outs, and made a piston stop to determine tdc. Then made my own timing markers for the engine. With this I figured out my timing was 180 degree out.

Played with the adap and......

Nothing. Fuckshitfuck. Timing was spot on, but wouldn't fire.

Another 3am thought woke me up. And I started checking cam timing etc. (This is the first time I've used a timing gun lol) turns out I had got the crank timing perfect, but the cam was 180 out.

So went the other way with the adap 180 change (so back 360 ) and she fired first go.

Tune is for a blacktop, so not exactly purring. The throttles are a little sticky right at the bottom of the closure, so it wants to idle at 2g... manually prop it back and it holds 800 nicely.

Im waiting on a wideband setup so I can see how bad the fuelling is (the eyes sting a bit in the shed after its been running lol) and had been keen for a sneaky lap of the block....

But as mentioned, was unable to select gears.

You ever have those days where you shouldn't have bothered putting on pants, let alone tried to work on a car ?

So id been having troubles with the gear selection. It had been narrowed down to a failed install of the throwout bearing.

I set about pulling the car apart again to get the engine and box out, as I couldn't see a way to get the box off in situ myself.

This went pretty well and come Monday morning it was mostly apart to pull the engine and box

This went well enough, and come Tuesday I was all set to rip and tear.

Got rhe box off eventually (dont ask) and confirmed the throwout bearing was the problem. The one supplied with the #worstproductever clutch kit had some generic fail clip for the fork.

I did some cutting and bending and lots of swearing to get the clip to hold the fork correctly. But in the end got there.

Then, just to be sure, I pulled the clutch apart as many had mentioned tbe possibility of having fitted the clutch plate backwards.

Turns out I had it right, which was nice.

And there ends the happy. While reassembling the clutch, the pos bolt supplied for pressure plate fitting snapped the head off at 19nm (apparently recommended torque )

So now I have a bolt stuck in the flywheel....

So I pull the flywheel to take it to the bench and try and weld a head onto the bolt.

Spend an hour pulling the fly off cos fuck my life, and then prepping a hollowed out bolt head to weld to the bolt....

Annnnnnnnnnnnnd no fucking gas.

Am so fucking buckled lol https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210223/be9308965b1192e8e17462b93e8355fd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210223/0c62fcf4673f3878ccd5198aa38cc033.jpg
