adub is going to be a weekend/ track hack. build concept is going to be KISS (keep it simply silly :P ). learnt that the hard way with my ae86 build , so this time im going to be kiss-ing it all the way . hehehehe.

hey guys .

so not much happening. woke up this morning and made a list of things i needed. i will be building this car in stages.

stage 1- get the engine working and rego and get a base lap time at Wakefield.
stage 2- tyres+ rims / bucket seat + harness
stage 3- suspension overhaul

so the list for stage 1:

-waterpump
-new leads
-dizzy rebuild kits
-gasket glue
-vacuum lines
-hd clutch
-engine oil + filter
-gear box oil
-oil cooler
-gear box oil cooler
-timing belt
-water pump belt
-air con belt
-injector cleaner

and went down to the local spare parts store and they said they couldn't help me because mines a import and they need samples of everything .. sigh [8~2]

so came home and open the garage and thought i do some work today with Sydney weather being crummy lately almost every weekend .. today it was sunny!!! so i thought i do some work on the car .

plan was to get it so i could just drop it when i could find an engine crane, but i sort of got carried and away and

5hrs later or so ....

bam!!!

hi guys .

last few weeks have been interesting .. [;)]

so the engine was 90% done and only thing left was to tighten up the exhuast manifold bolts.. easy right ... wrong!

this happened :

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59198.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59199.jpg

previous owner striped one of the studs so it wouldn't bite ... so i figured easy fix .. went out and bought a tap and die set .. taped in a new thread , and it was ready .. from there i should of stop and went to bed . but me being a impatient prick .. i went looking for a stud that would fit .. after an hour of swearing i thought stuff it ...i'll just get a bigger bolt and force it in ... got my rattle gun out and started forcing it in .. after a couple of minutes it looked good . it was going in and need a little more ... that little more cracked it ... lesson: don't do what i did and take it to a pro

which i ended up doing ... which sort of work out ok for me .. i had 2 options really ,

1/ he could try and weld it and put in a sleeve and tap a new thread... but there was no guarantee

or

2/ change the head .

i opted for the new head ... simply due to not wanting to take the motor out if the stud failed on me once the car is running

funny enough it worked out ok , Sprinterman my engine builder said that the original head suffered from alot of heat more then normal and wouldn't of lasted very long anyways no more then say 6months or so and that whoever built the motor last got happy with the gasket glue. some of it had broken off and was blocking the water galleries ... that night i learnt alot about gasket glue and the damage it could do if it has been used incorrectly.... apparently it could cost you a new engine... =P

so x amount of money later and my pocket ever so lighter i got a brand new reco head .

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59200.jpg

gearbox also got done. and picked her up .. it was smooth sailing for this one .. only 2 bearings needed replacing the rest looked brand new. gearbox guy said that the LSD was in good nick .. yay!

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59201.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59202.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59203.jpg

this thing weighs a tonne ...

so i built a trolley from a small pallet i found and bought the wheels from bunning .. hopefully this will help with the installion this week ...

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59204.jpg

motor and gearbox reunited

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59205.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59206.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59207.jpg

i was looking forward to putting the motor back on the weekend and getting her started but after close inspection on one on the engine mount , it looked like it had seen better days .. im sure it would of been good for another maybe 12-months or so . But knowing how little space and poo poo job it is once the motor is in , i opted to leave the engine installation out until the engine mounts got sorted.

so did some gooling and had 3 choices

1/ buy 4 brand new mounts
2/ buy aftermarket urethane ones
3/ try and make my own one

i choose 3. simply because im on a budget, the engine mounts aren't totally goneski so with some help they should last me until i get funds to buy new ones. plus this car wont be a daily and will only really be driven once or twice a month mostly to the track and back. so with that in mind i got this today :

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59208.jpg

before anybody comments that urethane is soft. this stuff is rated at 80A.. engine mounts are normally rated at 70-75A .. i was going to go the 95A stuff but opted for the 80A , just because I'd like to keep my teeth.. hehehe and 4ages don't like super stiff engine mounts ..

and did this :

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59209.jpg

then this :

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59210.jpg

then mixed some urethane up

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59211.jpg

and then filled them up :

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59212.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59213.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59214.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59215.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59216.jpg

dry time is 48hrs with 100% cure at 7days .. so thats perfect for me .engine will go back in the car on saturday ..

oh last thing , got this the other week off sweetpete.. i didnt really want to spend anymore money modding it but it does .. grrrrr, so just another thing on the list :

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/59217.jpg

so thats it from me atm . until next time

merry xmas guys. hope you guys have a happy and safe holiday

maybe it was already rusted & farked and someone thought all it needed was full tank ..

ANYWAYz i need a new pump and a working fuel gauge sensor (thats rusted too) ... any one know how i can clean the inside of the tank with out cutting her open ??? will water and vinegar work

dose the rest of the tank look like the pump?
let tank dry out completely for a coupla days then give it a few knocks all over so it will loosen up any flakes of crap in there, then try to flush/ wash out with diesel or something....... worked all rite for my old ke70

OK OK OK !!!! .

update time . its been a good few weeks. christmas and new year was ok . didnt get much work done on the car because of family and friend commitments .. but happy to report that the weekend that just past was very productive .

so just before i went on break and Christmas. i ordered a walbro fuel pump and went looking a for the a cleaning agent to clean the tank. at first i was a bit worried about the state that my fuel tank looked. i seriously thought i needed a new one . but lucky enough after a couple hours of research i came up with a solution . funny enough after going to every shop i thought it would be sold at .. i found it at the local coles store and cost me just under 10 buck and i pretty much bought all their stock.. hehehe ...

what am i talking about you may ask, well its :

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/60971.jpg

molasses is a by product of sugar cane or something or rather like that. farmers use it to clean their rusty tools and what not , i didn't believe it at first but then after watching this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-_z4tinnXk

i just had to try it myself.. i had some really good photos of the fuel tank before i cleaned it but my frecken phone's sd card poo poo itself so ..

imagine this but also on the side and floor and top of the fuel tank:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/0/8/59663.jpg

and google image gave me this (my fuel tank looked sort of like this )
http://hillridge.net/TR6/RestorationPhotos/FuelTank/Resize/Inside%20Rust%201.jpg
http://hillridge.net/TR6/RestorationPhotos/FuelTank/Resize/Inside%20Rust%202.jpg

so all i did was mixed 1 jar per 10 ltr total of 4 jars for 40ltrs. and left it to soak for over 2 week with the fuel holder and fuel guage sender reinstalled to get the same treatment .. once my fuel pump came in the mail . it was time to see what the molasses did .

pictures tell a thousand words :

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/60975.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/60976.jpg
that was all the rust flakes that came out of it

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/60977.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/60978.jpg

wow! inside the fuel tank

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/60979.jpg

fuel pump holder and sender cleaned up .

believe it guys .. this stuff really works .. i didnt scrubs the fuel tank at all . just left it to soak and then rinsed with the hose... and FP holder and sender i quickly scrubbed with an old tooth brush ... good new the fuel gauge sender now works .. woaho ...

new fuel pump

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/60980.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/60981.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/60982.jpg

(dont use a hose clamp .. it doesn't fit the hole with it .. USE A CABLE TIE )

OK IT GETS BETTER .. so everything went pretty smooth ..Friday night the fuel pump got installed .. fuel tank went back up and i put in 15ltrs of fresh 98. went to crank it and it cranked but still no fuel pressure .. ???? WAT , WHY .... OMFG!!!! it was too late so i called it quits (b4 i did something stupid) ... so Saturday morning i woke up nice an early .. pulled the main fuel line that goes to the fuel filter just to check if it was the old fuel filter that was blocked and still nothing. checked the fuse , connected B+ and Fp inside the diagnostic box and still nothing. got the test light out and tested for direct power at the fuel power.. still nothing.

now at this point i started feeling sick in the gut like when you know that either A/ you forgot to do something so the fuel tank needs to come back down or B/ you just got jeped and bought a dogey fuel pump .

installing an empty fuel tank is ok beacuse the tank weighs f all and 1 person can easily do it on his own .. but a fuel tank with 15L of petrol .. yeah wasnt fun ... now i like the reverse missionary position but this wasnt fun ... so anyways it turns out that stupid me and for anybody with an eagle eye will see it in the photo of the new fuel pump. that the plug connecting the fuel pump .. i pushed it in but i didnt get it to "CLICK" .. so make sure you here a click before you put it in the tank .
with that done i had fuel pressure .. yay !!!...

only thing left was to finally start her up ... installed the battery .. installed the intercooler and installed a new fuel fiter just for good measures went to crank , idle and then would instantly die... checked timing , checked tps , everything seemed ok .. spent all of rest of Saturday afternoon trying and i finally sucking in my ego .. realizing that setting the timing on the adub by your self takes a very long time and is almost impossible .. so got a good mate to come over to help me out.

Now 2 brains is always better then 1 .. or maybe in my case a fresh brain is always better then an old one .. and that was my case.. he came over and i showed him what the car was doing .. we opened the adub work shop manual timed it as per the manual and he instantly noticed that my inter cooler pipes were loose and was causing a vacuum leak .. .DOH!!! that was the problem the whole time .. so after tighting them up

this happened :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUNX2b-t-1E

so thing to note :
-molasses is good for rust removal
-listen for the "click" when installing a walbro fuel pump
-15L of petrol in a fuel tank is not a fun replacement for the GF
-vaccum leaks dont always have to be from tiny blue vacuum lines
- intercooler pipes need to be tightened .

like i said .. i put an order in for a complete rebuild kits from the Canada .. cause Toyota AUS wanted to charge me a arm and leg for 1 seal kit. Order braided lines from the States and only thing left is clutch line.

thanks bro.

took 2 step forward and then 1 step backwards this weekend. brake disc in . brakes calipers, done . braided lines, in (they don't fit exactly as oem but they fit.) and then it just went down hill from there the cv joints were nice and firm and protective boots in good condition . only thing it really needed was just some new grease and a clean up. so long story short . the inner cv-joint was easy enough to disassemble and clean . i should of stop there, the thought even crossed my mine.. but i didnt . the outer boot came out and after getting most of the grease out .. i still wasn't happy and couldn't leave it at that .. so after 3 hours of staring and bashing it with a hammer .. it moved a 2mm or so .. i gave up and jumped online only to find out that TOYOTA CONSIDERS THE OUTER CV JOINT AND SHAFT AS 1 UNIT .

hating my self right now ...

No pics and lots of words but its worth the read.

Ok so ive been having brake problems for the last 3 weeks. pedal kept feeling spongy , thought it was the brake master cylinder so i bought a new 1-inch hilux to replace it . since everything has been replace . installed it . and nothing , same old spongy feel. the pedal would go down half way then there would be some feel and when it finally hit the floor the fronts would lock .... GAH! it was doing my head in .

it just didnt feel right .. so i spent a couple of nights researching and came across some threads about the Aw11 being prone to the fronts locking up , what most guys have done to solve this issue and balance the fronts and rears. is they have gutted the rear prop valve with good results.

thought maybe this might be my answer. so what to do???. i didnt want to wreck my aw11 prop-valve so i went through my box of AE86 parts and bingo .. they run the same as an aw11 89 model ( after some research i belive the earlier models run a 1 piece prop valve for the fronts and rears). i can confirm the aw11 4agze model run a 2 piece with the rear interchangeable with the AE86 .

anyways gutted it , cleaned it up and wacked it in annnnnd ... Nothing .. =(

same thing, pedal feel was no difference.

ok so tonight i came home eager to try agian ..over the weekend i made a vaccum assisted one man brake bleeder and got 5Ltrs of brake fuild and thought i give it another go .

put her up on stand , wack the the one man brake bleeder on and went for it ... 30min into it the brake bleeder worked a treat .. but nothing same old crappy brake feel.

then it came to me ... sitting there staring at the brake calipers , i wonder why my handbrake cable was so tight and just looked plain wrong .. and it clicked ! Sean my boss said to me late last week to check the nipples if they were on top and not on the bottom .

Now being the first time ive worked on the a aw11 it all looked ok and on ae86 it obvious because the nipples are right at the top and if one was to install it incorrectly its quite obvious. on the aw11 however when the caliper are upside down the nipples still sorta look in the high position ...

any ways an hour later the rear caliper were switched around and bleed again for the millionith time annnnnnnddd HAALLELUJAH ,

instant brake pressure and rock solid like how its meant to be ...

so a tip to anyone who is having issues with spongy brake pedals after a install of fresh calipers: CHECK THAT THE NIPPLES ARE UP HIGH AND MAKE SURE THE CALIPERS ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY.

loving life agian . by the way the aw11 feels great to drive ... i cant wait to take it to its first track day .

not much to go before a blue slip

-get the exhuast done
-wash the car
-vaccum the cabin
-put back all the undercarraige plastic back
-drop the oil , and put some good stuff in it .
-make some brackets for the front indicators, i cant find anybody with a spare rio.
-make brackets for the intercooler
- wheel align ment

- save money for rego .

then happy times .

john.

So this build thread is abit dead.

its been a long time between drinks . but there was nothing really to update . car still hasnt got rego but it does look good.

so to make up for the lack of pictures here's 2 ;

something new

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/68240.jpg

and something old (from the sprinter )

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/68241.jpg

so the point of this post is to record and share the weekend i had .

here goes :

Thursday to Tuesday .. it was all about cars and getting them ready to go to wakefield.

Friday
-organized the trailer
-mate hooked us up with a tow car
- Richard and Nev decide they wanted to go
-start looking for tickets

Saturday
- 8.00am - Mates white civic broke down and needed help
- 12.00am- Spent half the day fixing the civic / getting it started so he could drive home.
- Then off to Ray’s house (at Lidcombe) to help him with is ae86 suspension
- Richard got tyres for his watanabe
- 1.00pm We all decide to go the Ray’s house to get the cars ready there .
- We all got to rays house then Richards water pump blew.
- So Richards car needed a new water pump. Nothing was open so off back down to my area to pick up a new waterpump.
- Same time Richard was having fitment issues with the rims and sr20det brakes . needed spacers .
- 6.30pm new water pump got installed . and the car was left there for the glue to set .
- Then off to Penrith to pickup Richards Wakefield tickets
- 3am picked up Wendy and friends from the city.
- 4.00am went to sleep .

Sunday
- 8.30am to my rents house grab the lawn mower and Mowed the lawn .
- At 11:00am back to Rays house to finish off the s13 .
- We decide to replace the timing belt at the same time
- Richard worked the brakes , new rotors installed , new caliper bolted on , new wheel spacer on . then spent most of the day stuffing around with the rear brakes.
- Phouc started on the timing belt
- I worked on the white civic finishing it off and getting it running
- 3.00pm I come back to the timing belt , got told it the cam pulley jumped a tooth .
- Stressed out I ask for a s13 workshop manual . and then get blank stares .
- so richard at this point said just put it all on and start it .
- first start up with new timing belt . failed .
- Tare it down get the timing belt off . line the cam pulleys with oem casing timing marks
- 2nd start with new timing belt . start runs .. idle ok .
- 7.00pm bleed the brakes
- Nev runs off to go pick up his ticket at west ryde
- 8.00pm brakes and getting there
- I run off home to go pick up the trailer for the mr2
- 9.00pm I load the mr2 onto the trailer
- 10.00pm Im on the lap top looking for a s13 workshop manual .
- 10.30pm I find one and start reading and find out ca18de are interference motors
- Richard not home yet . I call him and find out that the car runs like shit and making noises .
- 11.00pm his back at my place – didn’t bring tools .. I read more and find out that if timing belt isn’t installed properly . valves and pistons could make contact . bad news
- 11.30pm pickup tools. Tare down the motor . rip off the timing belt.
- 12.00pm get told off by the neighbors. At this point I was told I looked like I was going to kill someone.
- 1.30am car is done. Timing belt is install as per the manual . cars power is back .
- 1.40am go to sleep.

Monday
- 4.00 am waked up , it’s raining and cold. load the van with tools and a jack and wheels . strap the car
- 5.00am meet up with the boys at BP and off to Wakefield
- 8.00am at Wakefield
- 9.00am we get out onto our first session. Me the in aw11, Richard in the s13 , phuoc in the ae86 , and wendy in the e30 and another mate in a DC5
- All goes well. Richard’s brake still feels spongy . so bleeds his brakes
- 2.00pm everyone is not tired and lacking sleep.
- Richard spins out on the track and a gets a leak.
- Comes back into the pits and the leaks is from the back of motor.
- Find out is a blown hose .
- S13 back on stands. And we go looking for suitable hose
- 3.00pm we get one fit it in but the hose clamps are no good . still leaking
- 4.00pm find the right hose clamps off the aw11 . by this time we’ve had the hose off and on about 5 times . still leaking.
- Wendy goes home with in the DC5
- 5.00pm starter motor comes out and we see the problems.
- 6.00pm loosing light and its fixed . drive home without the starter motor.
- 9.00pm get home , have dinner
- Buggered .
- 10pm pickup wendy
- Richard and rays sleeps over .
- 10.30pm I go to sleep.

Tuesday
- Wake up at 11.00am
- Go out to have breakfast with wendy
- 12.00pm Richard wants to run his f**K off wide ass rims on the streets
- So we flare his guards.,
- 3.00 pm I take wendy to work
- 3.30pm front and rear flares are almost done .
- 6.00pm at the car wash
- 7.00pm dinner
- 10pm pick wendy up from work
- 10.30pm go to sleep.

And with all that happening I managed a 1.21.8 around Wakefield in a stock mr2 with ratty old tyres.

Long and hard but a good weekend.

also now that i've had a couple of days to digest what went on the track and off , i think i might just leave the car as is and do some driving schools/ or more track days to hone my skills , i honestly feel that there is about 2 seconds left in it and it was manily due to my lack of skills that limited it. car handle well , turn in was good . no real sign of understeer , slight oversteer at best and brakes were awesome all day. slightly underpower but right now the power matches the chasis nicely and my skill level. heaps of body roll , but its expected for old shocks and springs .even with the old hard ratty tyres it held up ok .

so aim for the end of the year is to get a 1.18 as is .

PB:1.19.1930
http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?13/06/2011.WAKE.S4

it was wet for the first half of day and like driving on ice .. spun and went off track more then i can remember. ( car looked more like it belong on a rally) track dried up after lunch and it was alot more fun!!! cars got a hunting idle issue. maybe tps , maybe a vaccum leak or something ... gonna have to check it out .

got a 1.21.4470 after lunch and so Sean offered me a seat in his rx8 and showed me some pointers around the track... jumped out of the rx8 and went out myself and instantly the car felt so much better. the car and i felt like one.... . every lap felt good. the car was alot more balanced and the grip level up.

honestly i didnt expect a 1.19.1930 maybe 1 second off but 3 ... awesome ! now to find that 1 second to get to my goal of 1.18. i think its doable.

BUT the GF says no more until i pay off some debts and get this thing registered .. ( gotta keep her happy)

in other news i've decide i cant have 2 toys so the bimmer is going up for sale for a tow car - jzx100 to be more specific . and the aw11 will eventually become a track only beast. driving down natio isnt the same anymore ... maybe its just me getting older or something but the risk are to large with little gain .. when wakefield and eastern creek are only a couple of hours aways . and driving on the limit is so much more fun then at 80%. might lose some street cred .. but then i never had any . guess i can always hard park the tow car =P ... shall see how it goes.

John.

hey every one.

Still alive and kicking . barely .

Since the last update , nothing much has changed or been done on the adub. just more stuff breaking

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/228076.jpg

as you can see there's a couple of things that i still need to get before it gets registered or sees another track day . My aim is to get it ready before circuit club's next track day in October and maybe the mr2 nationals.

in other news I've started my own blog : wideopenthrottle.com.au (http://redsprinter.wordpress.com/) . I'll be updating the blog with the track hack and anything else cool in the automotive world and local car scene. oh please 'like' WOT (wideopenthrottle) . it would be awesome if you could!
Feel free to leave a comment or suggestion on how i can make the blog and my articles better.

i also went out and bought a new digi cam ( lumix gf2) for WOT and to keep this build thread alive ,( i was never happy with using my phone camera) . Hopefully now i'll be able to get some half decent pics of the adub and incar footages.

some i took today .
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/228078.jpg

if there are any photogarphers reading this , feel free to throw some advice my way .

back to the track hack .. last circuit club day back in July the mr2 performed perfectly without a hitch .. that following Saturday after its shakedown track day , i went to turn it on and reverse it out to warm it up as part of my regular weekly routine... i noticed a little puddle of coolant on the garage floor . looking under the car it was obvious where the leak was coming from. so last week this arrive :

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/228088.jpg
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/228090.jpg

also my speedo cable decided to stop working on me.
Looking for one of these bad boys was a mission. Thankfully Yahoo Japan and Jesse streeter came to the rescue and sent me one of these from the mother land.

low k ( aporx 30,000 on it) . fingers cross it works !
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/3/5/8/3/228092.jpg

since I've had the car running the check engine light has constantly been on. shorting terminal TE1 and E1 i found that it was my knock sensor. BUT the adub actually revs fine and drive fine with no power loss . so i'll be changing the knock sensor out with the ones below and checking the timing again .

work will be slower then normal ( i dont know if it can get any more slower ) due to some F***Ing idots stealing my whole entire tool box from the front of my mates house . long story short i was over there helping him with his many projects and got a call last week that my tool box got stolen .. he has offered to pay me back for the tools . so its all good .. the tools werent very expensive ( nothing like snap-on stuff) but its just very annoying because ive had those tools since forever ( im a little attached to these guys) and more importantly everything in the tool box had its own purpose and was used frequently . PLUS some of the it was a gift from my GF so .. im majorly pissed and devo.

today i went shopping for some new tools .... but it just didn't feel right, because i guess i wasn't ready to let my old ones go and because they have pulled me out of some really tough situations, now some dumbass is probably selling them for crack money .

GAAAHHHHH....

this is what i got today

Hi guys , thought i share this with you alll

Last Sunday Phouc and I went for a drive to pick up his new set of wheels he had won on Ebay. They were located at Bathurst and while we were there, it was an awesome opportunity to check out Mt Panorama. You can read all about it here on my own personal blog : wideopenthrottle.com.au (http://redsprinter.wordpress.com/2011/09/12/day-at-bathurst/).

Located just before you enter the track is the National Motor Racing Museum. This was really a no brain-er, and it was our first stop of the day.

The Museum is not just full of V8 Holden and Ford race cars, but a great collection of Australian Motorsport Racing heritage. Most of the cars are privately owned and donated to the museum by their owners.

The Museum is split into four main sections . Vintage/ Open wheeler, Space framed cars, Motor Bikes, and Australian Racing Touring cars.

Scattered on the walls and in sections that were too small; artworks, photos, memorabilia and car parts were also displayed

More on this later. For now I hope you guys enjoy these photos .

I need a new Exhaust
http://redsprinter.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/p1010953.png?w=545&h=306
Something that I have put off for a while now is the exhaust. Now the MR2 is getting close to being road register-able, its time to pull my finger out!

http://redsprinter.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/p1000156.jpg?w=545&h=306
Beginning of this year I bought a cat back exhaust to replace the O.E.M one. After some time fiddling around with it I came to the conclusion that it needed modifying and what I bought was meant for a Non Turbo MR2.
http://redsprinter.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/p1010963.png?w=545&h=306
So yep, I have been pretty annoyed with myself, until two weeks ago which I sold it on Ebay ( for half the price I paid). And with that exhaust gone and knowing someone has put it to good use, I’ve gotten the motivation back to try again.
http://redsprinter.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/p1010964.png?w=545&h=306
Since selling my fail exhaust purchase . I have trolled through the MR2 forums, Yahoo Japan and Youtube for ideas. Most MR2 owners either go down the route of buying a bolt on system from the likes of HKS, Fujitsubo or 5zigen or go the custom setup. As much as I would like the bolt on option. I just don’t have the funds, so I will be making my own. Last night the old exhaust came out and measurements were taken.

Spent most of the Saturday and Sunday mowing the lawn… also managed to squeezed in some time to work on the Track hack.

The AW11 track hack’s speedo stopped working a couple a weeks back. After ripping the dash out only to find out that the problem wasn’t the speedo cable ( GAH!) but a missing plastic gear, I put an order with Kbox (http://www.kbox.ca/catalog/) in Canada and 3 weeks later the above rebuild kit was in my mail box.

http://redsprinter.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/new-leather-gear-boot.jpg?w=917

Another part of the track hack that needed attention was the gear boot. It was old, ratty, and had some crappy sticky cheap-ass vinyl spray all over it..ewww. As a temporarily fix I flipped the it inside out, but I just couldn’t cope with it anymore. So in the bin it went and a new leather gear boot from Ebay was order. Wait time was about the same as the speedo kit and installing was simple and straight forward.

i believe there will be some after August...when he gets his license back and brings the car down to Melbourne where he currently works for RTR *Road Track Rally*..yes same guys at WTAC with the RTR Evo X..

Some say, that he may turbo charge it and drive it hard until it blows up, or that he may want to reshell it to another aw11...all i know is, its sitting in the garage collecting dust as i speak lol

Yeah he was there with the team, I was with him most of the time on the Friday inside the RTR garage just chilling and catching up a bit. I won't be surprised if he enters WTAC 2013 with RTR stickers all over the MR2 lol
