Nicko
24th August 2011, 09:33 PM
LOL.

If anyone needs to be blamed its all the AE86DC softcocks who are the biggest bunch of car driving pussies ever...

trikzlane
24th August 2011, 10:06 PM
I would continue to organise the usually meet/cruise but I broke my shit again and have no time to at the moment, it in saying that, when my car is going again I will

jakel
25th August 2011, 01:28 AM
I always went... when I wasn't working on the car though. Wasn't there something about a patrol of the areas?

Beefy_Heafy
25th August 2011, 10:35 AM
yeah i think after that last one the police activity in the area really flared up. that and mereki haha.

timbo

Nicko
25th August 2011, 11:26 AM
They do, they just don't believe in rocking up to actual events.

Jacobxxx
25th August 2011, 01:07 PM
Id rather park my cars then post photos of them on the internet opposed to actually driving them haha.

Old meets were huge.

plohl
25th August 2011, 07:42 PM

Beefy_Heafy
12th September 2011, 09:23 AM
Yeah I went up there the other night also. Conditions were mighty treacherous. Made for good fun. I'm good for 25th so +1 for me if that's the date

Nicko
12th September 2011, 10:30 AM
Hope you're not talking about Nebo?

There are roadworks and closed lanes everywhere at the moment

plohl
12th September 2011, 10:48 AM
Nah, we aren't talking about nebo. Or any particular locations for that matter.

Went for a drive last night. Plenty of debris. Was still good fun though.

Beefy_Heafy
12th September 2011, 02:44 PM
I don't understand what u mean by your last post nicko?

Beefy_Heafy
12th September 2011, 02:51 PM
Hope you're not talking about Nebo? this.

Nicko
12th September 2011, 03:36 PM
Between the Gap and Samford, on the mountain, I went up in the ute last week. There are a few roadworks sections where the road is closed to one single lane for both directions.

And yes, there was lots of litter and it was slippery as hell.

But if I can take it in the ute, you guys would have no trouble.

Then again, i've driven that road more than anyone I know :P

odessy
12th September 2011, 04:03 PM

Ty for the heads up. I rarely go through there. I travel to and from bris via samford rd and mt glorious often though and it's the same deal there with the slimy wet and debris. No road works as such tho. Still have the barriers and stop lights that have been there since the floods. Is still fun to drive slippery. Just gotta be careful.
I'm keen for the 25th. I'll get "sick" for work if I have to.

Any Brisbanians up for a cruise while the weather is good? I don't know or care where we go but I figure an afternoon cruise with a stop off for a bite to eat and a few snaps would be good. Or maybe a trip to the skidpan?

timbo
21st October 2012, 10:52 PM
I was going to organise a drive a while back, however it never eventuated. Originally I had thought that we meet at The Gap, head up Mt Nebo then Mt Glorious and over to Fernvale (pie shop).

jakel
21st October 2012, 11:02 PM
That sounds alright, ill come for a drive in the cruiser if I haven't put rego on the new T18 yet, haha.

I used to do glorious from Samford way, out through to Somerset Dam is a good drive, then back home from the highway.

85Kai
22nd October 2012, 08:02 AM
Yeah, that sounds good. We'll have to make it happen. Saturday night I drove out to Willowbank and the weather was perfect for the drive. I'm so keen to do more driving now.

Everybody pick a day they're free to cruise. Through the week is fine, too.

Timbo, I like your plan. That sounds like a really good day cruise. Mmmmmmmmm...pies.

Maybe we can squeeze a mid week evening cruise in this month. Anytime this week is good.

jakel
22nd October 2012, 11:26 AM

We should do an evening meet with dinner somewhere by the end of the month?

haveaparty
20th November 2012, 09:01 PM
The dinner thing has been mentioned before. It could work. Would be hard to choose a place tho. Cause a lot of ppl say they will come and majority don't. A decent meeting point that won't attract cops an a BBQ would be the way to go.

dansomerville
20th November 2012, 09:58 PM
Yeah bbq would be awesome, I was thinking just a meet up and Grill'd or something.

As long as it's low key I don't think we would attract cops. We all seem intelligent enough to not do dumb shit in public view and I don't think the numbers that would actually come would be massive enough to attract to much attention. I'm not suggesting a 'Downshift' meet, just a chance to catch up and meet new people.

haveaparty
20th November 2012, 10:43 PM
Yeah sounds good. Ill be keen once my car is on the road. And I think that's the main thing that detures ppl from coming, is that there ae/Ke isn't on the road. And my daily is a dirty old commodore lol

plohl
20th November 2012, 10:55 PM
I would be keen to catch up for some food and that

jakel
21st November 2012, 02:14 AM
If someone has a BBQ I'll come in the cruiser and could setup with a couple of 12V lights (I have one small one) up the top... I also have a folding table if people are interested in something like that?

I can probably bring a gas bottle just the BBQ is too big to bring, haha.

85Kai
21st November 2012, 08:01 AM
Hey guys,

We can head to a few good restaurants in Sunnybank any night of the week (well Mondays and Tuesdays aren't so good for me). The food is good and the prices are cheap. Then we can go for a bit of a cruise around afterwards or something.

From mid December we can have a BBQ at my place. There's plenty of room and my wife will be out of the country for a month so if we get too fucked it won't matter. I live in the Bayside of Brisbane so there are some nice spots for a drive and fish 'n' chips.

If everyone is keen then let's catch up for a quick cruise and something to eat around Sunnybank next Wednesday night. So Brett, no dirty Commodores allowed, unless it's really old. hahaha. I'm sure one of us can pick you up.

jakel
21st November 2012, 11:36 AM
EOMM is typically on the last Sunday of the month? haha. I don't really have a car to cruse in anyway unless I keep this other T18 which I don't think I will.

dansomerville
21st November 2012, 06:10 PM
Well lets do it, does it really matter if it's mid week or a weekend? We need somewhere with a car park that's not bulk busy so we don't piss people off and with some surrounding food. Also what would be a better way of letting people know about it, seems to only be the same 4-5 people that reply to this thread when someone has an idea? Doesn't matter if your car's not going, just turn up in whatever, at the very least you'll get to meet some new people or put a face to a forum name.

Thanks for the nomination Josh. :worried: hahaha. OK, I'll start a thread and organise something for next week. At this stage it'll be on Wednesday evening, we'll also do a better planned one on a Sunday soon.

Another project I've been meaning to kick off for a while is having 'workshop style' meetings here. I'm sure there are some really handy guys who are very talented here and there are others, like myself, who are not. A great way to make friends, be productive and share knowledge would be to have workshop meets.

For example: Someone is a very good welder. There is some welding to be done on a car. a group of guys who are keen meet up to help work on the car and learn how to weld at the same time. The same could be done for panel beating, painting, suspension work, mechanical work, anything really.

It might be a bit left field for some but I'd like to see who is keen for this sort of thing because in my opinion it's better than just sitting around talking shit.

For those professionals who cringe at the idea of giving away their secrets, I say don't worry. Think of how long it took you to learn your trade. A few days here and there of sharing knowledge, skills and having fun won't leave you without work. It may even have the opposite effect.

haveaparty
28th November 2012, 09:16 AM
I like the sound of work shop meets. I can do most things on cars but always keen to learn more. Finding a place that has the room will be the hard part. Unless someone actually own a work shop we could use after hours/ on weekends.

30th November 2012, 01:20 AM
I don't mind helping someone out if they need it, but between working on cars all night at work, working my T18, doing stuff to the cruiser I don't really have much time or motivation/too tired to help people out, but when I can I do and if there was something like this I would like to I would even take a break from working on the T18 to do it, hey, haha.

But seriously I would like some sort of workshop meet if someone has one or somewhere with enough room to do stuff.

85Kai
30th November 2012, 08:09 AM
Alright guys, two things. Firstly, we just need to nominate a place to meet for a catch up next week. I was thinking somewhere fairly central, maybe around Stone's Corner or Greenslopes, perhaps Mt Gravatt Lookout or something like that. Some input would be great.

Secondly, regarding the BHBO Meets (Brisbane Help a Brother Out Meets), I completely understand some of your concerns about some unskilled people just leeching and some skilled people not wanting to work for free and there's always that issue but I'll use Jake as a perfect example here. Jake, you're skilled, you've got a project but you haven't got a lot of time. You're one of the guys I want to see put his hand up and say, "Hey, I'm doing bla bla bla to my T18 this weekend, I could do with a hand. Who is interested in coming to help and and perhaps learning something?". I'd be glad to help out. I don't expect a classroom lesson but I'm sure through a bit of hands on assistance I'll pick up a few tips.

Another example would be I want to adjust my handbrake cable on my car. I've never done it on a disc braked rear end before. I put out the call for anyone who knows what they're doing and is willing to give me a hand. There might be one or two other guys who would like to adjust their handbrakes as well so we all pile over to my place, work on the cars, drink a few cans of chu-hi, have a good time and learn something new.

It could extend past mechanical stuff, too. Maybe someone needs their undercoat blocked back in preparation for paint, 3 or 4 of us pick up some wet and dry and get to work. Or maybe a few guys on here want to learn some stuff about how to take better photos so we organise a photography day. Or perhaps someone isn't sure on the testing procedure for their M18A1 Claymore anti-personnel mine and would like to have a run through before using it...

Personally, I can't see us having access to a workshop due to insurance issues etc but I'm sure there are some guys here who have decent garages. I'm hoping to get a man cave built sometime next year for my projects.

Let's get some more feedback guys and then let's get into it.

jakel
30th November 2012, 08:37 AM
Yeah never really thought about asking if people wanted to come round and help out with my car, haha. Not much big stuff left really only alot of littl tedious things, only big stuff is wiring which I cannot do and bend up some brake lines, haha. or if anyone wants to watch me belt my guards out, haha. But I understand what you mean I actually don't mind working on my car by myself (don't mean to sound kind of selfish in a way, haha) I just enjoy it the only real time I get left alone inbetween work but I could probably get used to an extra set of hands now and then.

But I am more than happy to come and help anyone out with something here and there I have plenty of tools I can bring easily and stuff, so if anyone needs a hand don't hesitate to ask.

haveaparty
30th November 2012, 05:45 PM
Sounds like a good idea man. Keen on it for sure. And if ppl are worried about doing shit for free they need not to come. Is that what helping a brother out is all about? Doing it for free or maybe a few beers? Unless it something like building an exhaust system and is costing the person helping out. But sounds like a good idea.

I think it's a rad idea as long as people come with the right frame of mind, not to expect more skilled people to fix their shit. Sure if you have a problem ask for help and take it when it's offered but don't expect that by turning up your going to have everyone at your feet begging to help out. And hopefully meeting up and getting to know new people will help promote new mates and in turn increase the willingness for people to lend a hand or share a few secrets here and there.

I will help out with claymore instructions if someone is willing to remove my dynamat, ahahaha. Like Marvis said it will attract attention but there is a few car parks around that aren't really busy in the evening, as long as we're not dicks I think it should be right. And if people are keen they could always organise a drive afterwards.

85Kai
1st December 2012, 10:36 AM
You're exactly right, Brett. Those who are more interested in cashing in than a bit of non-sexual man bonding need not apply. And those who just want people to fix their shit for them while they just stand back will quickly have a deep understanding of isolation. As Dan said, it's all about coming with the right frame of mind. I think this is a good chance to socialise with people who share the same passion, build some great friendships, pick up some new skills and get progress going on more builds so more of us can cruise. I think we're ready to start a dedicated thread. All hail the birth of BHBO Meets!

Check the link here: http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/showthread.php/74747-Official-BHBO-Meets?p=904339#post904339

Jake, if you haven't belted your guards out yet then I'm keen to come over. If you're keen can you please list it on the thread link above so we get get some action started?

Marv, we will be driving, oh yes! We will be driving. The only area I know that has carparks constantly busy is Sunnybank. There are a few places we can meet, eat and then drive to. We can get something going next week if people are keen.

Dan, I knew I could count on you to prevent people from blowing themselves up or eating the contents of the Claymore. Are you living off base yet? Bring your car over and we'll get your dynamat off. My friend did tell me a good way of doing it but the weather is quite hot. Stilll, I've done my time scraping that shit off, I'll do it again.

Sorry for the very short notice for catching up with people the other night. The food was good and the drive was even better. Dan's car goes hard and his engine sounds sweeeet.

Now for a bit better organised meeting...

When: Friday night, December 14th. Gates open at 5pm, drift sessions start from 6pm.
Where: Queensland Raceway
What: Friday night drift and skid pan session
Why: Because whether you're coming to watch or to play it will be great to meet people and have some good or skiddy fun without worrying about anything.
What to bring: Yourself, a friend if you choose, a car if you want to slide, a camera perhaps, a jovial attitude.

Check the website for details:

Licence app link:
