Just wanting to share my new Joy rider

After a 8month build process of an AE86, it was a race to which would finish first, the project AE86 or my wallet...as you can tell, my wallet won the race and the project AE86 was just sitting there for a while...
Came down to a hard decision that i was procrastinating for a long hard month, it was time to part out the project as i figured if i spent more on the car to get it where i wanted it, i would of easily gotten myself a JDM Trueno, so that was the next step

parted out the project, got a bit more then 50% of what i spent on it which was a good sign, was slowly saving for the other half but as the weeks came by, money was going out the window, so i got a bank loan for the JDM Trueno.
Loan cleared, and looking for a complete MINTER of a trueno was a shocking wait :gah:, basically was a bad 2-3months of car searching, my importer (not going to name who as people may take it the wrong way) was only able to find me 2 Truenos that fit my preference and got both cars got checked out and both still failed under rust inspection to my preference..yes im a picky mofo since i already was driving my sister kouki Trueno everyday of the week that hardly had any rust, so i wasn't going to settle for second best =[...

here were the two:
http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/3114/truenoaa.jpg (http://img809.imageshack.us/i/truenoaa.jpg/)

http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/5672/10165002.jpg (http://img502.imageshack.us/i/10165002.jpg/)

FUCKING CRAZY??!! i was excited as shit, but reports came back and both cars were a no no..
these were the only 2 decent cars that came up within 2months of searching....clean JDMness was getting DRY!

so anyways...i lost the Trueno as my daily as my sister moved up to the Sun Shine State..thing goes bloody hard thanks to my 16V engine i had rebuilt by Sprinterman John, engine specs can be seen in my AE86 project build in my Sig =p

blah blah blah, needed another daily for work ASAP!! jumped on carsales the same day i found out the Trueno was going to another state, found this MINTER s13 CA18de within about 15min, went to sus out the car and bloody minter of a s13! dropped mulas in the owners face and 1hour later, i was driving it home, i dont fuck around when it comes to mint cars cause as we all should know, they dont come easy, and they sell fast :hehe:

Modifications:none at all, pictures dont lie :soldier:
Borrowed some 15x7 with re001 from a mates AE86 for the day
so heres the bad boy out at OzMazda at Wakefield 4.12.10

was a hell of a day, bad luck to Matt and his KE though =[ wanted to see that thing rip it up at wakie
Best thing about this car, i brang the car to the track, didnt bring a single tool, had my fun on the track, drove home with air con and no worries at all, and the plan is to keep it that way

Already got some 15's comming from Jland, got 180sx SR20det brakes that will be going in shortly with better disc and pads, haven't decided what Coilover type i want to use yet, Diff...haven't even thought that far as its not needed yet

Enjoy for now :DD

sr20det brakes arnt that awesome. id suggest going some sort of multi piston brake r32/33 or s14/15. its all bolt in, im not 100% sure what you do if you want to keep it 4 stud, what hubs and shit to use but providing you get the right combo of parts it bolts in, nissan seems better then toyota for interchangeability.

ca18de, i guess you want to check if it came with a r180 or r200 diff. if its r180, then r200 diff and half shafts should slap in its place and you shouldnt break a r200 diff too easy.

what wheels are going on this? surely not wats?

Cheers for the input ae71 ^^ highly appreciate the advise, though going to be a while before i can drive turbo so stronger brakes will over kill the power of a ca18de..the standard ones are decent though they just cant handle heat..i scored free sr20det brakes so going to upgrade to them soon
and to answer....yes its going to be dumped on some wannabes, car isn't fast so why not be a poser while im still young dumb and full of cum =p

seal kit for sr20det calipers and drift button for some real hard parking to be done at the car wash

AND THEN I FUCKING CRACKED THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT GLASS 2NIGHTS AFTER TRYING TO ADJUST THE LIGHTS...stickytaped the glass, still pending new headlight since then =[

random pics with car washed at home and in garage

back to the future car to 1989 where stockies were cool, and i think still is
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/8229/photo100001.jpg (http://img130.imageshack.us/i/photo100001.jpg/)

SO was at mates place this afternoon checking out his AE86, he wanted to swap his rims from one of his ae86 to his road registered one, so we helped out, as you can see i did my part
http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/9074/photo106001.jpg (http://img27.imageshack.us/i/photo106001.jpg/)

http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/1656/photo108001.jpg (http://img219.imageshack.us/i/photo108001.jpg/)

so when i got home this afternoon, couldn't be bothered to play GT5 online and drift with NZ people so decided to finally put my brake rebuild kit to good use

originally grind down the surface of the calipers...until my ears started to bleed and had to re-cap...to go death for the rest of my life but have shinny calipers or take the easy way out...
http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/8692/photo124001.jpg (http://img511.imageshack.us/i/photo124001.jpg/)
all the internals on my work chair, note how small the rear cylinders are to the front...and all s13/s14/s15 run same rear brakes according to NS forum
http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/477/photo127001.jpg (http://img97.imageshack.us/i/photo127001.jpg/)
Took the easy way out, had a hard enough life working on AE86s already, so sprayed it black with da praper blacka caliper paint mang! 4 hundreed and fibdy degree resistance so goot
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/0/3/1/63438.jpg (http://img694.imageshack.us/i/photo129001.jpg/)
Everybody loves rebuilds, this is mine =D
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/1298/photo130001.jpg (http://img41.imageshack.us/i/photo130001.jpg/)
BANG, all together, just need a vice clamp to push in the pots
http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/1099/photo137ye.jpg (http://img23.imageshack.us/i/photo137ye.jpg/)

So SR20det brakes will go in soon or when i can be stuffed to get the disc machined and some quality brake pads =p
still shopping for coilovers before i run my wannabes, but until then enjoy my stockness monster s13 =]

Nice wheels. Should look mint when done.

Is that lip the lower trim from a windscreen, flipped upside down?

yup sure is =p, off a AE86 i think it is

bad photos to show height after cut springs...what can you do :yeah:

Rears, guard sits horizontal with top of the tyre
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/0/3/1/66392.jpg (http://img830.imageshack.us/i/dsc01154k.jpg/)

Fronts, guard still sits about 2inches above top of the tyre.. >< wasnt sure how low i was cutting, guess it wasnt low enough
http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/659/dsc01155t.jpg (http://img7.imageshack.us/i/dsc01155t.jpg/)

just a lil bit of what i like to call inspirational storming, donor front bar, for sale sign for template use and the inspiration it self
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/7819/dsc01153hb.jpg (http://img22.imageshack.us/i/dsc01153hb.jpg/)

after a quick draw up, lil changes, cutting out the template, how it sits...still not sure if i'll go through with making my own lip 100% yet since i might run an after market front bar..so i guess im just playing with ideas

a few offset pictures, front had abouot 1.5cm spacer to clear the calipers, it should clear 10mm spacers so might have to shop for some

Ok so more of this talking bullshit and no pictures but heres what happened over this epic long arse weekend

Friday night, was talking about going out to Wakefield Raceway on Easter Monday, so my brother started shopping around for them cheap vouchers Wakefield had selling a few months back, and we found one for myself that was most likely a 'go'

SATURDAY, woke up, checked my bank account and i got paid 1 week in advance due to Easter break blah blah blah, first thing that hit me was i need tyres!! new grippy shit!
called up JAX tyres Liverpool, they had in stock so i told them to get 4x Bridgestones Re001 ready for me cause i'll be there within the hour
1hour later after stretching the tyres onto the rims, i went back to a mates place to put in all the things i had laying around
so jacked the car up and it was leaking coolent...the waterpump shat itself
so called up parts shop and brother and mate when to pick up the new waterpump while i started to strip out everything in the way of the waterpump
so since everything was out ready for the new waterpump, started working on the new slotted front rotors, pretty basic and was not trouble, out with the old and in with the new + new QFM pads
i didnt have rear slotted rotors to go in since i didnt have cash at the time, but i did have new pads to go in so out with the old and fucked around with the rear calipers and 1hour later the rears were in
during this time the new waterpump was in and sealed and left overnight to dry just to make sure
Threw the rims on for test fitment and yeah, thing poked from every direction, rears had not spacers and poked, front were an issue
Had like 15mm spacers to clear the calipers but the nuts holding the spacers + the standard studs didnt clear the wantanabes back face of the rim...easy fix? had to get more spacers the next day

SUNDAY, bought a new timing belt since we already had the old one off...what a fucking mistake this was
bought 12mm spacers from autobarn
went back to mates place and screwed around with the spacers, wheels stuck out like a kunt, but was for track use so whatever
waterpump was in and set, timing belt went in, overall, we thought we had the timing right and it was late already, 8pm? so drove it back to my brothers
while driving there, car went from no noise to sounding like lifters being hit by a metal dildo and kept getting louder, was roughly a 20min drive
getting back to my brothers, he found the CA18 engine management manual PDF file and read that the valves could of been damaged since the timing was clearing out
stripped the whole front end of the engine bay again to get to the belt, did the timing belt again according to the PDF manual
cranked the bitch and it wouldnt start, fuck the looks on everyones face after almost 10hours of working on cars this could not be happening, i noted that i was low on fuel and that was most likely the cause
got 10L of fuel in and the bitch started, went for a quick drive down the street, hunting and limping around on ideal but was acting fine and smooth on acceleration all the way to redline, was good enough for me cause i was over the bloody thing! time. 1:40am

MONDAY, woke up 2 and half hours later picked up the gf and we heading out to Wakefield park
no dramas on the way there, got there signed in and started to bleed the brakes, 40min later the track was open and i had just finished bleeding my brakes in time and lined up to get out
1st session was good, no dramas, tyres scrubbed but was nothing major, got back to the pits all good, adjusted the dampers 3step stiffer, lipped the guard with a metal poll from a car jack
2nd session, car was amazing with them 3step more stiffness, no understeer, no over steer, brakes were amazing, car was going hard and showing no sign of failure
3rd session, set the dampers 3step stiffer again, went out, straight away noticed the car was more twitchy, first lap was a bit over the place and everything was happening so fast,
so coming to one of the turns at 110kmph, i nip the ripple strip and cause the car to come off balance, tyres lost grip and i was sideway, had the car on lock but with an open diff, the car ended half on the grass facing the other direction of on coming traffic, lucky save!! but white smoke was pouring from my bonnet on the right guard, my DC5R mate comes in and sees this and slams on his brakes and spins out only about 10m away from me, get back to the pits, open the bonnet and let it cooled off..
after inspection a heater hose popped at the rear of the motor, just above the gearbox...long story short, started working on this hose issue about 12:30pm, left Wakefield park with my starter motor disconnected about 5.30pm, got home close to 8pm with the starter motor sitting behind the driver seat lol

Tuesday, so called in sick for work since couldn't drive to work, plan was to put the start motor back in today, basically took longer then expected, but got it in after hour and a half, got lunch, came back, hand flared the guards so i can run the wantanabes on the streets......nah, still need more flaring or bolt on flares or even wide body kit to make it sit flush, so much poke =O

anyways, thats as simple as i'll make this update and will go through the cameras tonight see if i can upload a few pictures of Wakefield

AND a BIG thank you to JOHN L AKA REDSPRINTER AKA E30-86 AKA g2s AKA GARAGE 37 #1 for saving his ass. but thats what we do!

if anyone cares to hear my side you can read the below :

Thursday to Tuesday .. it was all about cars and getting them ready to go to wakefield.

Friday
-organized the trailer
-mate hooked us up with a tow car
- Richard and Nev decide they wanted to go
-start looking for tickets

Saturday
- 8.00am - Mates white civic broke down and needed help
- 12.00am- Spent half the day fixing the civic / getting it started so he could drive home.
- Then off to Ray’s house (at Lidcombe) to help him with is ae86 suspension
- Richard got tyres for his watanabe
- 1.00pm We all decide to go the Ray’s house to get the cars ready there .
- We all got to rays house then Richards water pump blew.
- So Richards car needed a new water pump. Nothing was open so off back down to my area to pick up a new waterpump.
- Same time Richard was having fitment issues with the rims and sr20det brakes . needed spacers .
- 6.30pm new water pump got installed . and the car was left there for the glue to set .
- Then off to Penrith to pickup Richards Wakefield tickets
- 3am picked up Wendy and friends from the city.
- 4.00am went to sleep .

Sunday
- 8.30am to my rents house grab the lawn mower and Mowed the lawn .
- At 11:00am back to Rays house to finish off the s13 .
- We decide to replace the timing belt at the same time
- Richard worked the brakes , new rotors installed , new caliper bolted on , new wheel spacer on . then spent most of the day stuffing around with the rear brakes.
- Phouc started on the timing belt
- I worked on the white civic finishing it off and getting it running
- 3.00pm I come back to the timing belt , got told it the cam pulley jumped a tooth .
- Stressed out I ask for a s13 workshop manual . and then get blank stares .
- so richard at this point said just put it all on and start it .
- first start up with new timing belt . failed .
- Tare it down get the timing belt off . line the cam pulleys with oem casing timing marks
- 2nd start with new timing belt . start runs .. idle ok .
- 7.00pm bleed the brakes
- Nev runs off to go pick up his ticket at west ryde
- 8.00pm brakes and getting there
- I run off home to go pick up the trailer for the mr2
- 9.00pm I load the mr2 onto the trailer
- 10.00pm Im on the lap top looking for a s13 workshop manual .
- 10.30pm I find one and start reading and find out ca18de are interference motors
- Richard not home yet . I call him and find out that the car runs like shit and making noises .
- 11.00pm his back at my place – didn’t bring tools .. I read more and find out that if timing belt isn’t installed properly . valves and pistons could make contact . bad news
- 11.30pm pickup tools. Tare down the motor . rip off the timing belt.
- 12.00pm get told off by the neighbors. At this point I was told I looked like I was going to kill someone.
- 1.30am car is done. Timing belt is install as per the manual . cars power is back .
- 1.40am go to sleep.

Monday
- 4.00 am waked up , it’s raining and cold. load the van with tools and a jack and wheels . strap the car
- 5.00am meet up with the boys at BP and off to Wakefield
- 8.00am at Wakefield
- 9.00am we get out onto our first session. Me the in aw11, Richard in the s13 , phuoc in the ae86 , and wendy in the e30 and another mate in a DC5
- All goes well. Richard’s brake still feels spongy . so bleeds his brakes
- 2.00pm everyone is not tired and lacking sleep.
- Richard spins out on the track and a gets a leak.
- Comes back into the pits and the leaks is from the back of motor.
- Find out is a blown hose .
- S13 back on stands. And we go looking for suitable hose
- 3.00pm we get one fit it in but the hose clamps are no good . still leaking
- 4.00pm find the right hose clamps off the aw11 . by this time we’ve had the hose off and on about 5 times . still leaking.
- Wendy goes home with in the DC5
- 5.00pm starter motor comes out and we see the problems.
- 6.00pm loosing light and its fixed . drive home without the starter motor.
- 9.00pm get home , have dinner
- Buggered .
- 10pm pickup wendy
- Richard and rays sleeps over .
- 10.30pm I go to sleep.

Tuesday
- Wake up at 11.00am
- Go out to have breakfast with wendy
- 12.00pm Richard wants to run his f**K off wide ass rims on the streets
- So we flare his guards.,
- 3.00 pm I take wendy to work
- 3.30pm front and rear flares are almost done .
- 6.00pm at the car wash
- 7.00pm dinner
- 10pm pick wendy up from work
- 10.30pm go to sleep.

And with all that happening I managed a 1.21.8 around Wakefield in a stock mr2 with ratty old tyres.

Long and hard but a good weekend.

my last lap before everything went wrong was a 1.22 hand timed..didnt bother figuring out if that was the fastest as there were more important things to think of...overall thanks for all the help
and will be doing more things in soon time when money comes back in =p, pics will be up tonight

so this happened this morning

Cop: your wheels are sticking out of your wheel arches
Me: yeah =p
Cop: im not going to defect you but you will get a $75 fine in the mail
Me: sorry..no defect?
Cop: yes no defect just a fine
Me: =D no worries

am feeling a little depressed over the situation but i know i am way lucky to just get a fine for basically just wasting the cops time for pulling me over for nothing...yeah that does make me feel a little better haha...bolt-on or hammer and dolly or wide body kit?

back to stock wheels after work today and the shopping starts

you should not get a fine for 'wasting the cops time' he wasted his own time they got too much time and nothing better to do oh tyres sticking out of guards thats LETHAL.
sick ride, don't submit, just get a bit less offset or something.

anyways, cop telling me to do something about and a $75 fine =.=', so its time for me to take the car to the next step

stay tuned, things should get going soon again =D

what are you gona get to fix it?in the pics looks like u could just do with slightly more pull all round and a touch more camber upfront, would never be close
to demon camber just a touch more, would look great, i had similar sizes when i had a s13 and worked well after a few tests drives all rubbage was gone haha

so picked up the R200 VLSD, apparently from a SR20det car so it should be a 4.1 ratio where as all CA18 come 4.3.. so im a little "palm my forehead" about this but its ok, will suit ok when i go turbo
got home and as this is my first time buying something second hand for this s13, i was a bit nervous so only one thing to do, open it up!

the writing says " S 37:9 HN 1 I0 7 " assuming 37 divide by 9 = 4.1111111111111111 is what the calculator says so guessing this is a 4.1 haha

i cant wait to buy some thrust washers to shim this bad boy up

so since installing the above+adjustable castor rods, car sounds like an old train riding on the train tracks when driving on uneven/cracked roads eg. hume highway...just the way i like it =D

straight away i noticed improvement on steering response and the coilovers now getting to work a little bit better too, i guess everything is now just working together as they should be
and the steering was pulled to the left.. so after 1 day of driving it to make sure everything was tight and wasn't going to die
i did a quick toe alignment yesterday at home + castor

i dont know the specs of what is what, but im guesstimating im running about 10mm-15mm more then standard castor
and toe...no idea, just work on the left side until steering felt straight again, and now its has a little pull to the right but is so much more center then before, so just leaving it for now until i get a shop to align it for me

all in all, car turns in great, response is great, car accelerates a bit more, time to upgrade from Re001?

ADVANS AD08 ???? you know you want too .

if you have more or less toe on one side than the other the car should generally still drive straight just the wheel wont be centered. if its pulling to the left i think that means there is more caster on the left.

Rice86

yeah that seemed to be the issue i first thought, since the caster was roughly measured and then just installed and the only thing that was changed at the front
but right now caster should only be a 1-2mm off from left to right and toe i set up looks a lil more even, ohwells whatever, wheel alignment is next on the list

bit of an "whats the happs" with my car
so after being defected, watanabes were to hot for the cop so its now sold to another forum member, Ben =D, s2000 AE86 in case your not to sure who "Ben" is lol

anyways, so whats next to come, thought long and hard about this
got defected for wheels and being to low...
so now going 17's, still defective, but at least it will fill up the space in the gaurd to look nice and i dont have to slam the car on its cross member + being higher means closer to stock handling which is a win and shouldnt attract to much attention, but then again my car is awesome so it always will get attention..=D

so plan is 5stud with bigger brakes..

-R32 gtst front calipers bought, cleaned+painted black for stock look, same as s14/s15 but lighter made from stock, aluminum
-Getting new slotted disc to suit for the front + pads i guess, do it right the first time
-Getting complete 5stud rear hub brake setup, R32 again, mate says its rear R32GTR brakes, but i think they are all the same from GTS-T to GTR on the rear, GTR vspec is when its brembo all round? either way dont care can find out later, its bigger and 2 pot rear caliper with internal drum hand brake and should be direct bolt up using s13 rear hubs and shafts..
-going to need new R33 hand brake cables to suit the rear brake setup
- bigger brake master cylinder non ABS

but the best part about it is, i know what wheels i want now... hint, most will hate, but hater gon' hate, Price is under 1k brand new

keiichi
15th August 2011, 01:25 PM
under 1k brand new? is it bob jane specials? im hatin already.

nah, sounds like good plans, i got the 5 stud conversion and 4 & 2 pots on my 180, pulls up very nice.
