As some of you know I have been in-trouble with the police a bit and I like to street heaps, so I needed a car that isn't going to draw attention, and be as non-defect-able as possible, or at least look like it.. R31 seemed the best option at the time, but I really don't like them at all, should have gone a KE70.. But this will have to do until I am on my opens/first defect clears around oct 2011..

So, I bought this a few months ago stock, drove it around for a bit, ran out of rego while I had no license. Put coilovers and a few bits in it and blew up a bottom end and raped the clutch in two sessions. NICE, I thought RB30 bottom ends were unbreakable...

So here is the mods list so far...

Engine
S3 "stage 2" head, ported and polished, "Stage 2" lifters, rockers, "32/74" Mild cam, everything port matched.
Bosch Super Sports Ignition leads
Hectic pod + VN adapter.. Plastic ones kept breaking
170,000km bottom end from auto
10:1 compression, over stock 9:1
AU thermos, secondary off temp switch
GREDDY/GREX Sandwich plate with thermostat, FC oil cooler, speedflow lines and fittings.
Extractrors, 2.5"exhaust

Drive line
4x 15x7 watanabes with 205/50 proxies
2x 15 x 6.5 watanabes
Exedy HD clutch
RB20 Gearbox
Welded 3.9 diff

Suspension
ZEAL function coilovers 8/6 rates
SR20DET front brakes, hubs and Boxed LCA's
Rose jointed tie rod ends
Alloy steering shaft spacer
Superpro rack bushes
Whiteline rear sway bar
Boxed rear trailing arms with superpro bushes
Superpro top trailing arm bushes

Inside
No sound deadening
Seam welded engine bay, basic seam weld inside
Pop riveted door frames
Silo seats
Cool stickers for HP

Outside
Cool stickers for HP
Bad paint
Rust

Need/to do:
KA24 throttle body (From U12/13 Pintaras)
Install Lukey muffler, gut cat? and remove hotdog.
S14 DMAX castor arms, install modded boxed castor brackets.
Pinnie diff, 4.1 ratio
20-25mm spacers for rear?
Bride fixed back or recaro recliner (+mod plate)
Steering wheel
Hydro handbrake

They aren't the best cars if you want to ooze japanese-ness, but for beginners and people that want to lay low, they're quite alright.

Hopefully cops won't look at it. It's 110mm high, wheels are 50m in the guards and I will try to make it quiet..

Needs less bogan stove stops.

i know you hate the thing but here's some inspiration...

If I wanted a car to look cool, R31 would be the last car I would get. Passages are cool though.

Mine will look like shit, be high and have no fitment. As it's my daily, and I can't get major defected again, or it's 3 months impound for the car.

So did all factory auto's have the higher CR or does this have some funky pistons?

I took 1mm off the head.

Well no rego yet, so I don't know.. I need to spend like another 1.5k? on it and I will be happy with it for now..

So like, I welded a temp switch from a carbed civic into my thermostat housing for the secondary AU thermo fan.. I tried it out of the car in hot water and it would come on when I put it in, now in the car it comes on after around 3-5 mins, thermostat isn't even near open.. Urggghhhhhh,

I'ma be the first to say it.

Your Celica was way cooler until it got defected.

I know :( Wait till i get my opens ;)

Sam: I welded a nut on without the temp switch on it. So it's fine. I wanted the second fan to come on when it got hot, I didn't want to do it manually.. I will have to do some more testing..

Sourced some genii? Extractors from nick, look sooooo much better :)

Did any of you guys read the first post?

What are you doing for a hydro Marv?
R31 handbrakes are the devil.

racsov
3rd January 2011, 11:17 PM
^ they can work, they are just fucking CUNTS. you have to get new cables, make sure your calipers twist freely and adjust them to be literally mms of lever movement of freeplay clear of dragging, and even then you have to hoist the shit out of it and itll eat the pads and discs in no time. that said, for a street car its still better then a hydro, cause if you use a hydro with the stock calipers they will seize, and if you use commodore calipers you dont have a cable handbrake. shittest thing about r31s full stop.

marvis
4th January 2011, 11:19 AM
Looking at running twin caliper setup. Putting hydro where stock handbrake is to look stock and then maybe put a ute handbrake beside the seat so it all looks stock..

matt99
4th January 2011, 11:30 AM
Yeah Marv, I run a twin caliper set up on my 31 diff with two VS commo calipers (bolt straight onto 31 mount).

Pretty easy to make the mount for the second caliper yourself or if you cant be fucked, we have a jig.

matt99
4th January 2011, 11:31 AM
Oh, and put the hydro master and shit in the little glovebox thing I recon? Should be able to do something with that to hide it?

Marv- steering rack bushes ( X2) and steering column bush are the best thing you can do for these old clunkers. i put a set in my sisters silo and fuck me the thing actualy steers properly and is really fuckin direct. The rack bolts also tend to come loose/fall out so locktite the shit out of them and do the suckers uphard.

It had super pro rack bushes. I installed Pedders nolathane ones yesterday, I can't see it moving any more, So that's awesome. I just need a wheel alignment now, but my local was under water.

Oil cooler is installed, I couldn't put it behind the grill so it's behind the bumper, need to do some venting for it though to direct more air to it. No idea what temps are, gauge doesn't work.. YUCK

Busted my radiator last night... Was driving along highway @ 3.5k then water and steam pisses out of my bonnet, turn engine off and cut people off to pull over..

FUCK YEAH NO TEMP GAUGE.

Looks like it's busted the top tank where it joins? Had a friend bring an rb20 rad to me, zip tied it on and away I went. HG seems fine!

Went to servo to get water etc at Twoong.. Cops rock up so we just chilled and talked.. Then they come over and the lady is like.. "Looks a bit low", and I'm like " It shouldn't, It might be because of the tire profile, It has 50's.. I think it runs 60's stock" she asked when I got the wheels etc and I said that The tires were all my shop had. She then said the height was fine. Wtfffff It's 100mm at rails and like 80 at the extractors. With 55's it will be like 5mm higher?

So anyways I am sick of my axles making crazy noises? I have been told it's because I welded my centre and not spooled it?

S1/2 lights are on :) Looks so much better.

Would require me getting a new center, but as long as it shuts the axles up I am happy. Would really like 4.11's also.

Marvis Research & Development = Fuck you rev limiter/Hello walls.

Also, how small minded are the majority of rollabclub. And they restore ke70's instead of modify them? I don't get it.

I think I am going to have to do a bit of restoring.. Little bit of rust.. Getting my old shell back to cut up.

Good times.. Just need to sell my Skyline now.. Might get a cheap shitter daily..

happy to be of service.

it's posted on rollaclub and the guys are complaining about how expensive it is, so i think you should be right dude.

the majority of members over there are very tight with their money, so it doesn't surprise me all too much they were going on like that.

i couldn't help post it here when i saw it. least it's going to a good home :)

None of that better not be pointed at me, if I thought that it was a shitbox then I wouldn't of bothered posting the fucking thing, I would of bought the car but the money I have can't go to a car and I would not of paid any more then 1000 bucks for a 80's model celica that needed another engine, yes it has value but not 2k worth, I have wanted an AA60/63 (whatever the fuck it is) for a long time, just have to wait till marv gets defected and get it off him.

blake.

Not pointed entirely at you, I spent more on brand new rwd parts for my E7 then what Marv paid for the car, I must be a tight ass...

Trev, it wasnt aimed specifically at you. KE70's (and most cars) are quite shit without basic modifications. and they aren't a classc. In my opinion, they aren't worth resoting. Sure, make it clean, but to take it back to stock and and do things to do things like buy light protectors is silly.
However, I am glad that people do that, because then i can buy a nice rolla and make it dirty.

I might have a job, so keeping R31 I think so slide in the meantime I think so I can do shit right with this car. I will slide it and rape the shit out of it, but I don't really want it ghetto.. I don't know..

I want to do the body work good on the aa63, might respray (with glitter :P) depending on how much I need to repair..

I don't know if I want to throw a stock bigport or stock bigport with 7age bottom in to get it running asap, or build a 7age big port with quads and wack extractors and nice cams... Or do both and have a spare engine.. I like bothh I think..

The radiator in it is like half the normal size.. So much cool shit.

Oh and AIR CON AND POWER STEERING.

FUCK YES.

Just imagine all that coolness and light steering though when he is skidding :p

Marv, rape the fuck out of the 31 and keep this respectable, I really liked what you did with the 65 but it sucked to see it put off the road.

It has aircon and power steering so I'm going to keep it. I like the feel of the supra's steering.
