hey guys ,i posted a thread about putting a s2k honda motor into my sprinter for gravel rallying but after reading the thread and all the talk about cutting crossmembers and affecting the front geometery i think its too much hassle.so my plan is to run in the historics or the new r2 2wd class in the ARC but i want to build a car with 300hp or more to have plenty of power to beat the huge $$$ escorts.is there a toyota engine out there that will give me the hp im looking for and be RELIABLE.

you could build a 3sgte
you havent stated how much of a budget you have so its anyones guess to what you could build...

First thing that pops into my mind is the 2jz-GTE from the supra, very good and tough in stock form and if I recall correctly also able the make a reliable 300hp with stock internals!
Second thing that pops into my mind is how are you going to fit that in a sprinter...

i have a healthy budget (just sold my evo rally car) ....how much would a 3sgte cost to build ...what car is that out of i dont know engine codes....

would a supra engine be really heavy i have to think of weight distrabution too.....i have already spoken to modena in melbourne and they are doing a sequential gearbox that will handle 300hp easy so just need engine suggestions and a rear axle too

If you have the money to get a sequential box, you have the money to build a turbo 4A to make a reliable 300hp.

would prefer a n/a engine...i think a turbo rwd on gravel would be tough to drive ..if i wanted to have fun and just drift up the stage maybe but i want to win rallys with this car.

A solid 3sge beams motor would make 300hp NA, and is easier to fit into the sprinter than the F20C, Neil bates is building an RA40 celica for the same class (assuming this is for the new ARC 2wd grunter section)

anything 6cyl would be too heavy.

forget them all. especially the 2j....

millington diamond.

an engine designed for rally, n/a producing about 300hp. yes it will cost a bit, but thats how you get a reliable 300hp.

real rally cars use millington diamonds!

allows you to do something along these lines....

edit: yes i know you said toyota engines, but i dont think its worth it. just get a wicked engine to start with.

my motors are making 190 kws at the back wheels, a std s2000 makes about 140 on the same dyno to give you an idea

karn dave.... spend the sort of coin on a beams that it would cost to get a millington, and you get a very competitive engine.

fwiw,

a copy of glenns system which is over 300hp would be in that ballpark, but i would go drysump for clearance and safety of the engine as to keep the engine low your sump would be very low.... with dry you could get the engine low enough for zero tunnell mods even with the 6 speed and still be very safely behind a sump guard.

im not sure if he is on here, but there is lad in wa who races an 86 in rally, maybe have a chat with him? gets around with username mc86? i think?

glenn is celicara45 on here and would the most useful source of realworld prices and information.

as you can tell the rest of us are mainly good at spending other peoples money :)

ps what sequential you going with?

mc68 just has a stock bigport with itb's, a fancy lookin exaust manifold and a TRD gearset'ed T-50 as far as I know, think he put cams into it last year, he was planning to but dunno if he ever got around to it. He may have upgraded for this season but last year's end of season repair-and-redo list was a lot worse than the previous year so I doubt it. Anyway, he's in a 1600cc class so he's not making anywhere near 300hp.

Do 1uz. You'll get the throttle response you want.
"Below is our rally car powered by the 4.0 1UZ with our eight-throttle body setup and cam mods dialing in at 330 HP at the wheels."

yeah i know mc doesnt have the mad engine, more in line with how the car as a package is for rally and would a 300 hp engine be any good? lol

He's like "I need more traction/forward-bite while I'm sideways" and that's even before it had cams, maybe even before itb's. Although that was due to bad car set up and it did get better after I told him to change a few things.

He wants my silvia to build into a rally car. not because it's a better chassis or anything but SR + T28 in RWD is more fun than 150hp.

I think you could use more than 150hp but at 300hp, set up will be more critical and you'll need GOOD tires.

yeah was thinking that might be the case....

and its not like he is a bad steerer...

300hp would be alot in a rwd on gravel.

alot of top quality escorts have 280-300hp on gravel .i agree if its wet 300hp will be useless but i think you would find it easier to handle and steer with the throttle if you had alot on hp at your right leg.my old sprinter was only about 120hp and i set 4th fastest time in a state rally a few years ago and top 15 were 4wd's.300hp will not garentee you good times the driver will....look at andrew macdonald setting 11th fastest stage time in the arc in victoria

Man, I just googled andrew macdonald ARC and found a youtube clip he uploaded of him and Leigh in rally vic and saw his crash. :( Doesn't look bad to me but damage to the chassis. :(

those things run methanol to make that sorta power. rally runs a control fuel from shell (this year) and will be bp ultimate next year with the outright class/s2000/something else can run control 102ron if they wish.

Eh, I skimmed through some competitor pack article and it said control fuel and there was a shell symbol next to it. I put two and two together. Out of interest where can I find an online copy of the arc rulebook? I couldn't find it on their website not that I looked too hard for it.

without meth your not going to get your 300hp reliable daily unless you go a 2j or spends alot of cash on a shitbox sr or something

this is why you need 300hp on gravel:
