Todd
12th February 2011, 02:39 PM
Yeah, so this arrived in my driveway last night, along with a heap of spares.

1968 Datsun 1000 wagon ( VB10 )
Worked to the shitter a12
standard carby :(
4 speed
Retrimmed seats
Shitty blue paint colour
everything works

in the spare bank i have:
spare worked a15 (cam, etc etc)
spare 4 speed
spare diff
3 x doors
3 x guards
chrome strips galore
spare indicators
spare tail lights
spare bumpers
2 x bonnets
And miscellaneous other bits (the back of the van is completely filled up with shit)

plans are to get it resprayed asap, most of the work has been done body wise, just a few areas need going over and filling.

That Hakosuka gold kinda colour or white are the ideas at the moment.

anyway pics:

Yo, he said the going price these days for a full respray starts roughly around 3k.

What colour ya thinking..i reckon silver would suit this car, with all of the sharp body lines :)

i agree that silver would look really nice, but i have had two silver cars so want something new :)

did you know if that was quoted for a full respray or engine out full everything done?
ideally all i need is just the outside and door jams done, so panels off basically but not the engine bay. hoping to find someone to do it for around 2k

13th February 2011, 02:11 AM
If your going the off white colour i would just do it yourself.
White is a pretty easy colour to spray.

Also where i live there is a bloke that will do paint jobs if you prep. so you sand it back give it to him, he will primer, then you sand again and then he will paint it.
He charges around $600 doing it that way which is including paint, he just doesnt give any garantee on how it turns out as you do the prep.
You could ask around and see if someone is willing to do it like that.

I forgot to mention I love the space that the tailgate on these open up on :) My dad has a 1000 wagon sitting in the backyard in the same blue

What do you think of the handiling and steering?

Jdm-Mcc
13th February 2011, 02:18 AM
Also this is a deluxe model seeing as it has bumper over riders and a dashpad :)

Im so excited to see another 1000 going to get some love some proper love!

Nikkojoe
13th February 2011, 02:45 AM
Interesting!

Whatever colour you choose, perhaps paint the door jams and that yourself and then the remainder can be a closed door re-spray. The cost of the job rises when you add extra work ;)

86TRD
13th February 2011, 03:15 AM
Definatly door jams, they rise the price heaps.
Should get some new number plates to go with your new paint, there a little discolored.

to be honest, it drives a hell of a alot better than the ke20.
steering is tighter and more direct, just feels 'less raped' than my ke20 did. its great actually considering the age of the car.

deluxe is interesting to know also :) i want to find some badges for the boot though, and did they have any on the guards?

yeah actually after you messaged me today, i spoke to my brother about it and im better off doing the door jams myself.
basically im going to get the painter to do the final prep work and give it a once over with some sand paper, and then paint the thing in TUPAC.

im thinking silver at this stage. a nice classical alfa romeo silver :)

and yeah, new plates are on the cards, they will let the car down after it's sprayed. also going to put all the chrome trims back on and give them a good dose of autosol.

Todd
13th February 2011, 01:41 PM
this is more the colour i was thinking though....

14th February 2011, 01:47 AM
that four door hako is nice...
13x8 hayashi streets all round on this would look really good.

what about the old nissan leopard colour?

http://i55.tinypic.com/einhqu.jpg

colour was called 'fawn pearl' from memory.

edit - on second thoughts, the colour may be a bit too... 'modern'.

Pidgey
14th February 2011, 11:48 AM
8's would look HUGE on this.
Go with 7's, and maybe 7.5's on the rear. Go with rims that actually fit and are not hectic hellaflush.
I trust you Toddles, with a beard like yours nothing can go wrong.

Jdm-Mcc
14th February 2011, 12:02 PM
8's are literally the limit on these things on stock guards which is pretty impressive considering thier size! but 7's and 7.5 are mint!

Todd
14th February 2011, 12:18 PM
yeah 7 and 7.5 is where it's at for this little guy.
as you said above MCC, that fawn may be a little modern. trying to keep it period or at least period'ish'.

having a chat to some painters in the next couple of days so hopefully i will be able to have it in the shop within a week. going to sydney for 4 days on thursday so would be nice to have it in a shop by then.

24th February 2011, 09:47 PM
thanks guys,

nothing has changed in the body department yet, still trying to find someone to paint it for me. off white has been decided upon.

so i got bored today and decided to fix the previous owners lusting for bad colour/taste when painting and half heartedly rejuvinated the front grill.
its missing the bottom trim at the moment, but i will get one off the other spares and give it a polish to get it all proper.
also re-enameled the badge so its more vibrant in colour and shine now.

the thought has crossed my mind illminded (double mind sentence).

but yeah, to me it's still kind of polishing 4 round turds. i think they will go for some money on rollaclub to fund some new wheels instead, watas or starsharks or even yashi streeto's
