My ol man does 1:55 all day long round the Island in his Mk1 Golf. When he's moving he can get down in to the low 54's.

Mate it runs in Improved Production. 16v 1.6ltr on ITB's running Motec M8. Its all built by ol man with a no bullshit approach.

But anything under 2mins in any car Under 2ltrs is good.

I can do 2:12 all day long but when I try to get under 2:10 its hard work. Im in a Street Mk3 Golf.

BTW do u own the white AE86 that was down the Island a few times last year?

doridori
18th February 2009, 11:48 AM
No I don't own the white one but taking my red one down in March for a squirt.... Gotta tell them what time I think I'd do, so they can put me in a category...

I'm estimating a 2:15 - 2:18?
Since I've never driven there before and all....

No times in the 86 yet - still under construction. :(

But have 1:59 @ PI in my GC8 WRX(stock engine/ECU & road tyres - just an exhaust & minor suspension). Hoping to go quicker in the 86 as it will be ~350kg lighter with similar power and R-specs.

Mate what I suggest is go to a Circuit Familiarisation day on the Saturday run by Piarc.

The next one is on the 18/04/2009.

U get given a group and go out for 20min sessions normally getting 4 sessions for the day. Thats over an hours track time.

Be a member of Cams car club and all u will have to do is enter for the day I think its around $90.

Sundays arnt really that good bcuz u only get warm up lap 2 flying and a cool down lap.

My ol man is an instructor for Piarc so if ya want u can go out with him for laps to improve your driving skills.

www.piarc.com.au

I highly recomend going on Saturdays: More fun and relaxed day of good motorsport.

there's a ke55 from albury with a standard 20v silver top that does a 1:40 around the long track on semi slicks

another time i was at winton i saw some toyota open wheeler race cars from NZ they had a 2zzge and were doing the long track in 1:18 aparently that was a slow time 8|

In a Hyundai Excel at 1000kgs with;
Standard motor and box
Standard exhaust with the rear muffler replaced with a straight through item;
2nd hand Formula Ford tyres
Rally suspension, (way too soft for the track)
and upgraded brake pads

Philip Island 2:13
Winton 1:50 (Long track)

Horse power makes a big difference at PI but all you need at Winton is balls, brakes, tyres and suspension, (in that order) to set a respectable time. Actually you need big ones to take the first corner at PI fast too :) but it won't make a massive difference to your time.

At Winton I'd expect a road rego'ed AE86 on road tyres to be 1:55 plus or minus 5 and down as far as 1:40's or lower with a full house car

Have a look on Natsoft.com.au for some results and you should be able to find some times if you have the patience.

Turn one flat out drop here down a cog and hold on for the ride.

U are very correct about Winton its take an agressive driver to be quick where as the Island rewards a smooth driver.

White ae86 dohc20 plates ? Guys old man has the 20vblacktopke racecar doing piarc events

Alot of people with 4age AE86 say there doing 185ks up the hill under the bridge down the main straight of PI accelerating down the hill to 220ks before braking then down a gear into turn one about 165-180ks.

The owner of the 125rwhp 4age tried every OEM type of toyota body kits from lips to the full N2 , car was fastest standard ! the N2 kit it lost massive amounts of speed anywhere passed 160ks since the huge frontal area. Same car also won the MSCA 1600-2000cc 2-3?years in a row for road rego cars.

Had the AE71 up at the fun day last weekend (Winton - long), Pete timed me on his phone and I got a 1:54 apparently. 4A smallport, xt130 coilovers, kaaz 4.3. Still on stock XT130 solid disks so once I do a decent brake upgrade I will get some better times for sure. Just in the process of building the car up to a good standard to possibly do some sprints.

Track: Winton Long Circuit
Time: 1:49.5990
Car: AE82 Corolla Twin Cam
Tyres: 205/50/15 KU36
Suspension: Coilovers, stock sways and stock front brace
Weight: ~940KG
Engine: Stock Bigport 4AGE - weak motor which blew the head gasket at the end of the day.

I was struggling to hit 140 on the main straight! LOL

Next time ill be aiming for a 1:46 with R888's on the front, sway bars, strut braces, less interior, no AC, and a lightly modded Smallport 4AGE! ;)

Ran Winton in my 4AGE KE70 yesterday, first time racing ever at any track.
1:52.4
3 rib big port standard
cut springs & standard shocks (ADM ae86 front struts/brakes)
15x8 rota grids with china tyres ($49 each) 195/55r15

was barely hitting 140 up the long straight.

I'm definitely putting a set of coilovers in it for the next meet, the brakes seemed good I never got fade (probably wasn't going hard enough haha).

Just got home from my first event at PI.

AE86 Group A Touring Car with 123rwhp on slicks, 2:05.3

Had a great weekend at the recent Phillip Island classic. New surface is very grippy. New engine makes 154rwhp, not bad for a 16V 4A-GE with std manifolds. New Bilsteins in the rear, new Dunlop D11 slicks and best lap was 1:58.3

Last outing at winton I ran a 1:48.6 in the same car with the only modification being a pair of old adjustable koni rear shocks to stop the rear hopping like crazy. My next outing is 5th of may & I'm in a new car because I destroyed the last car putting it into the tyre wall at Bryant park hill climb racing. Lol I'm in the middle of reshelling my car with a few extra goodies this time such as a set of coilovers, adjustable LCA's, RCA's finally lol & a set of sway bars. I'm hoping for a 1:46.99 or better if I can get the car set up right.

Took the car out and ran a 1:45.2 straight off the trailer, had only just scraped in finishing the car.
The car is now caged and aligned properly so I'll be chasing a 1:43.xx or better. Still running the completely standard blue top 4age. Getting a bit smokey now.

Here's an example of why this thread might appear to be dead. I had my first run at Winton, two years ago and I'm just putting my results up now...

AE86

4A-GE 16v big cams, forged pistons, standard manifolds, standard rods & crank - 154rwhp

Bilsteins, coilovers, AP brakes, T-series 4.77 LSD

15" Dunlop slicks

Such a shame this thread is dead.. nobody still punching laps around the VIC tracks in old corollas and sprinters?

Went to 86 Festival the other week and was stoked to get a new PB of 1:34.1 in the AE71 (Natsoft)
which coming of the back of a 1:36.8 the last time i was at winton, a big imporovement!
Setting the car up for winton is so different to PI, to get enough turn in we increased camber to 5 degrees, softened swaybars and shocks,
also ran a few mm toe out. a different car to the stiff PI setup i have been used to, but it began to work better in the tight corners.

Last PI was a year and a half ago now, best was 1:46.6.

Superpro Rebushed
Cusco 1.5 way LSD
6kg rear springs TRD blue shocks
AJPS 5kg front coilovers, KYB excel G's, cambertops, RCAs, strut brace.
