15th February 2009, 03:48 PM
Well now that my Trueno is basically done and is a lil over the top for a daily driver in start/stop traffic and parking, i decided to get a daily. What i got was a AE71 Wagon. Cheap too! Ive also got a bunch of parts ive had laying around for a while so i'll be chucking them in it this week. They are:

- JDM Ae86 Front suspension set up including brakes
- PWR steering arms
- Lock spacers (AJPS)
- Sigma Arms
- 30 RCAs
- RA40 Tie rods
- 13 x 8 and 13 x 10 with negative offset for wheels
- Bolt on flares
- Fender Mirrors

Its got a super clean besides for a few rust spots. Interior is amazing. I'll be rubbing it back and painting either this week or next pending weather and when i get my hands on a square front KE.

Unsure what color to go with. it is either white, grey, deep maron(like coke cola) or british green. Keen to hear your thoughts?

Anyway here are some pics. I'll start slapping parts in this week after i get it regod.

Pics of car and parts:

Also once i get the money from the Government i'll chuck a 4age in it and maybe do something with slapping a T series in it seeing as it is ready for all of this. Should make a sweet daily and a interesting slider.. hehe Oh yer the AC in this thing works amazing!!

Nice car..wagon's are awesome!
what are you planning on doing for rear suspension?

Beau
15th February 2009, 04:16 PM
Yer she is a lil rough but wont take me to long to make it a lil nicer. Its just a daily thrasher so im not to worried.

Rear end? well there are a few ideas, One idea is to adapt a sprinter rear end, meaning trailing arms, panhard and a t Series in there with LSD or the other ideas is to mod the T series to work with the leaf springs weld a panhard rod in there and bam.

We have a certain way we make the rear ends stiff in cars with leaf springs, so i'll just see how it handles with the standard S series and 86 front end first then decided from there, It makes it easy when ive got a smashed 86 with T series and everything sitting here ready to go

Beau

By the way if anyone has a Square front or panel Van front they want to sell i will buy!

Be interesting to see how it turns out :))

I'm just planning on using an S-series and chucking more leaves in the pack

Example of said color. I was just looking through the paints we have and we have so much white so i might just paint it white and be boring. Lol. With T18 Lights do i need to run T18 front? Is that possible?

Squish M8: When i do the leaf springs this week i'll try and do a small DIY in this thread for you.

15th February 2009, 06:22 PM
i have no idea whether you have to run a t-18 front end but i'm sure it's possible, hell look at ya 86, that's custom as hell, they're just sittin here cause i bought a s2 front llights for my t-18

Nice wagon - I'm actually thinking of getting one of these as a daily myself. How much space is there with the rear seats down? Do you think it could swallow a mountain bike back there?

Can't wait to see pics of it with the wide 13's on it too!

shift_rook
15th February 2009, 06:45 PM
would definately fit a mountain bike, i've got a t-18 and would fit easily, similar chassis

Let me do some research on the T18 stuff. I know i could make it fit but i dont want it turning into a epic project just want a cool looking daily and so far its cost me sweet fuck all so i'd like to keep it that way

Hey Starni boy yer i did. I forgot to reply. How much you want for all that stuff? You dont have guards do you?

t-18 front wont fit without custom fab work.

the front of wagons are exactly the same as normal sedan ke70s. so a flat front would go on and doors from sedans.

panel van fronts (2 seaters) have the same front end and doors as t18s, slightly longer.

hope that clears it up.

WTF are those rims on the rear! I want them in 14's. Are they just 4wd rims with the correct size center re drilled?

Might be able to fit a 40mm RCA Under 13's also.

Beau
16th February 2009, 10:32 PM
Heck Yes! *Awaits PM*

Start on suspension tonight, Got drive side front in and my brother did the rear but it didnt work. Looks like either the shocks are way way to long or there is something else that we just couldnt see in the lack of light, my brother expects brackets or something.

Gonna have a look tomorrow. Should HOPEFULLY have this puppy sitting low by the end of the week HOPEFULLY with rego also

Beau

Ok havent got as much done as i wanted to, the rain has been preventing it plus i got the flu! grr

So tonight i give you one pic. and a current spec list of what this sucker is now rolling on.

Specs:

Wheels
13x8 with 205/60 (needs to be changed to 195/50)
13x10 with 215/50

Suspension
Ae86 Struts
Ke70 Strut tops
Kyb MR2 Shocks
7kg springs
PWR steering arms
Sigma LCA
RA40 Tie rods
Revolver 30mm RCA's
JDM Rotors and cailpers
Brand new Ferdo Pads (whatever they are)
AJPS sway bar bushings (i had a bunch spare of what didnt end up in the trueno cause i went rose jointed)

Tomorrow i will finish the rear end. My brother and i are going to get some lowering blocks and slap them in it. After looking at the wagons in the US and Jap that seems to be what they do and seeing as they only cost 40 bucks its a win win mod!!

Gotta pick up the KE front asap.. hoping for funds to open up! and this sucker will be on the road i HOPE by Saturday

marvis.

Beau
18th February 2009, 09:21 PM
camber tops yes! though i thought with sigma arms it would have alot more camber. i'll keep an eye out in Japan for something.

185..lol do you mean 185/50? cause my tyre guy hates me enough as it is.. lol

In other news. Looks like i might be getting the best steering wheel in the world! MOONEYES metal flake silver ohhhyerrrrrrrr

Beau
18th February 2009, 09:25 PM
oh yer i just remembered im getting NCRA"s this week. What sort of camber do you get out of them? they are T3's. Im normally against NCRA's cause of the negative force they put on the ball joints but hey its a crusier so meh!

Calknowles: That shit is getting dropped tomorrow arvo!

Waterboy: Yes it is but no matter how much shit ive got i always need something!! hehe

Update:
The Mrs nick named it Ol'Rusty today. We went on some Toymods cruise thingy. I think some were suprised to see this 71 wagon sitting on their ass's in some turns.. It handles fucking well!!

Even the Missus drove it for 2hrs and is already becoming attached.. Looks like, just like the Trueno i wont be able to sell this.. haha

Here are a few pics..

Took this yesterday arvo to show the poor front tyres profile. Really need to get some 185/50 on those bitches! and then i'll lower it in the front a lil more.. Maybe slap some coilovers in it..

Leave it slanty! I'm over the flant fronts, too over done. One thing I would try on a slanty is remove the front grille altogether, and perhaps tape/paint the exposed sides of the headlights black. Im not sure if this actually possible, or if it will look any good, but in my head if you could make it look like theres a cavernous gap there, it would look tough.
That's just my random thoughts anyway. This thing looks tougher than most as it is, very much love the look of 13's.

Nah cant be bothered. There are many things I could do to make it awesome, but I really only have one car that I like to show that much attention to and that’s a lil queer yellow sprinter. So if someone wants this they can buy it and do to it what it deserves.

I stuck it up in the for sale thread. If I had the cash Id get someone else to restore it for me and maybe put a sprinter rear end in it.. but yer..
