Flare look dodgy here, but they got completely welded on and ground back.
It gets better, I spent 2 months on the body preparations making sure I got it as good as I could. I'm not a Panel beater or spray painter either.

Domo say's Hi :)

The last 2 months have deffiantly paid off, the car is awsome. I'm currently assembling it, finding all the little trims and getting replacements for most parts is prooving to be a pain although I will get it done. I picked the car up from my mates spray booth 2 days ago. I have all the chrome strips on, most of the glass in and most rubbers all cleaned and ready to be put on. The car should be done soon I hope.

New Rubbers :) Just about all through the car. I replaced every perished rubber I could get my hands on... cost abit but worth every cent!

Well I got the car running with the 4k motor, till I decided It wasn't fast enough within a few seconds of driving it.

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/188778_1872830145816_1393026071_2117797_5924994_n. jpg

So out goes the 4k and in goes a new motor.

Paints pealed in a few spots around the car and one tiny rust bubble has appeared on the drivers door, but I've since tig welded it up and its getting finished this weekend.. hopefully have it in the spraybooth for a full respray within the next 2-3 weeks.

This ones getting a 5k/4spd motor... purely for weekends.

If anybody is interested, I actually have another KE10.. 4k/toyoglide in decent condition, although has some more rust. PM me if you are serious about it.

Jordain
21st March 2011, 05:48 PM
Yeah, Jordains the name :)

Yeah, 2tg.. doesn't exactly fit in the old KE10's.

I've got a custom cut down KE70 cross member with the rack and pinion for it to go in soon when i sort out some stuff, R31 LSD diff.. Tilton floor mounted pedal box all inside the car so I can get those porno DCOE 40 webers or FCR quad bike carbys in there nicely.

The 2tg has been bored a little and has a 2t crank, although i'm putting a 3t crank into it so it's just shy of 2l.. 1940cc to be precise, set of reground cams and equal length stainless extractors. Ah, plenty of welding to do haha!

This cars currently on hold for a little bit, I am going to finish the original KE10 first, just because I want a car and the 2tgke will take a while to sort out.

Hokey
21st March 2011, 10:15 PM
it'll go out to a 1940 if you use 89mm forged pistons. i was going to build one of these ages ago and was going to run 3t crank and 86mm acl cast pistons which helped keep costs down and end up with a capacity just over 1.8l.

Jordain
22nd March 2011, 06:33 PM
Yeah 89mm forgies, I'm still undecided though. I think the 1600 will rev harder, but I may be wrong and my friend Fonzy did the 1940cc motor and thinks its shits all over the 1600

Ke70 cut down cross member with stock Ke70 LCA with Ke70 struts with Ke10 top hat.. works nicely although RCA's and Custom Adjustable LCAs that are shorter are needed, so are camber top hats.

keen to do teh same thing to my ke18 panelvan
don't suppose you have a spare front bar you want to sell by chance??

Jordain

I've actually just payed for a 3SGE BEAMS motor for the car. Rack and pinion works well. I do have a few front bars. I want $300 for a mint one or I got bent rusty ones you can have for $200 but theres a few people who said they want it but haven't paid yet so yeah.. might not have anymore. Also do you know Jono in Tassy... his got a ke10 !

Saab Interceptors to be widened to 8" next week

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/520754.jpg

Nice fat 205/65's

I get my 3SGE BEAMS this weekend hopefully. I picked up the Nissan S13 gear a few hours ago and plan to bolt it all in tomorrow morning on my custom LCA's... Need to cut the Spring perch off the nissan struts and modify them abit :)

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/520755.jpg

I'm not actually sure if I'm going to use the Nissan stuff. I need to do some measurements first, make sure it works.

Either way I have to:
-Shorten the LCA
-HSD Coil over sleeve kit

Ke70:
Pros:
-Bolts in
-Its all standard
-No steering geometry issues

Cons:
-4x114.3
-Brakes are small

S13:
Pros:
-Adjustable camber
-Brakes are sorted out

Cons:
-4x114.3

How i'm going to overcome my 4x114.3 stud pattern issue for a while... I got a set of SAAB 900 1985-86 4x114.3 chasers, same as the Saab 4x108 chasers on the rear just different stud pattern so that fixes the wheels problem for a little bit. I will end up changing all the brakes later on me thinks D:

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/520760.jpg

RRRRMMMM :)

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/520761.jpg

I really like these rims haha!

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/520762.jpg

The Camber is adjustable, the spring height is adjustable, the lock is amazing and the ackerman angles are very very close to original KE10 spec. But honestly, who knows if it works until you try it. By moving the wheel up and down on the shock I've noted that theres virtually any bump steer which is a good sign.

But in all seriousness... it looks rediculous.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/520763.jpg

At the moment I'm stuck, don't have any 4x114.3 rims so the car has to sit on space savers

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/520764.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/520765.jpg

Shot of the Diff setup. I still got some work to do on the rear end but it is substantially easier than the front part of the car.

If i haven't mentioned... I'm putting a 3s Beams motor into the car. It's going to be sick :DD

Any day now the halfcut should turn up :)

More pictures of the motor in the car... Its a challenge to get it in...

quoted from my facebook: " Cut the shit out of the car, take the crossmember out, then lift the body to the roof then push the motor under it then lower the body then use the engine crane to lift the engine up then put the crossmember in and bolt it in. "

Seventy, it's not to bad hey.... Motor is far back but the seats aren't to far back but won't be fitting an adult in the behind the passenger seat because I plan for floor pedals so seat is far back anyway!

Jordain
1st July 2011, 12:00 AM
Oh also I have to cut all the trans tunnel out and redo it all again -_-. Tomorrows job is to get the motor in there with the engine mounts all welded 100% with the gearbox mount all welded in. I want it sitting in there.. then once thats all done I will bolt the gearbox mount in without the gearbox/engine and cut the tunnel out and recreate a tunnel 400 wide to comfortable fit the 6 speed box in. It will be big in the KE since its so little. Once thats done, start the firewall boxing.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/520816.jpg

Sumps abit of a worry but hopefully it won't get ripped off.

Mounts have been made but first half of the day went to cutting more of the firewall out because it just wasn't sitting right and the firewall was rooted anyway so might as well start over. Somebody added a brake booster in about 1990..... and they just hacked and stick welded it in.

current plans are to lower the crossmember 40mm, gives me more room in the engine bay, allows me to get the rear coil pack and allows room for a strut brace. Lowering the crossmember would typically make it handle like poo but since I'm start from scratch with the suspension it doesn't matter!

More pictures soon.. I hope to atleast have it mounted by tonight, but I think I'm dreaming hahahah!

Haha I don't have the dosh to drysump it or even put ITB's on it. I was going to buy a set but changed my mind when I worked out a realistic price of what it will cost to finish it off so the plan is to finish it off, then once I've recovered from the intial hit I will build the motor up... ;)

Hmmm well. I've put the gearbox in the car and well.... :pinchme: It fits...... but its behind the rib which is smack in the middle of the bracing across the floor and I'm not keen to cut that out unless I'm 100% sure the things going to get engineered.

I won't be working on it anymore for about 12 weeks as I have my HSC to finish off. Its already taken enough time

See you guys in 12 weeks with an update! :soldier:

well come a long way.

KE20 crossmember, all standard but I unpicked the mounts and moved them out 15mm to line up perfectly. Here's a picture of what I mean.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/521870.jpg

Then mig welded the mounts and put a few plug welds... that's not moving anywhere anytime soon.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/521871.jpg

This shows the 30mm crossmember space down ... no I won't be using oversized nuts lol. Hopefully have the 30x40mm solid bar made by this afternoon.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/521872.jpg

This picture show's how far back the engine is, I've got a few solutions to the coilpack problem.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/521873.jpg

With a 40mm RCA, Cold bent strut to re-allign the King Pin Angle. As you can't see, theres about 30mm from the 7" rim to the strut and thats all square... so I'm going to get abit more camber from the strut. Also show's how low the motor is, it's a lot lower then a 4k in a KE10, although it's not lower than the sill's.. Plan is to make a 12mm Bash plate that goes from the front of the car to the crossmember to protect the nice beams sump...

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/521874.jpg

Nice fit so far... very happy with it.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/521875.jpg

Decent amount of lock, with a 195/45r14 tyre, abit of massaging on the inner guard and some more castor I'll be able to get a lot more lock. although may need the front of the guard choppped out to get lock... decisions decisions.

bought the Kit from Ireland, Milling the rear housing myself and I'll pull the selector shaft out and either outsource the cut or just try mount it in the mill and cut it with the mill... Dunno yet but at the moment, i'm shortening the selector shaft and the rear housing part where Dad's pinky is by about 35mm so the Gearbox can sit about 40mm higher as it will clear the Central floor brace. Gives it just that little bit extra clearance and will make the motor sit 100%

Desired ride height, sump is around 50mm off the ground here.

I've got abit of a problem. I need more camber. With a KE20 crossmember, Ke70 LCA to keep the bottom of the wheel under the guard and the Cambertops wound all the way in ( as close as I can get it to the tower ) there is still positive camber. The only thing I can think of is to get 40mm RCA's to re-allign the roll centre, Cold bend the struts and if that doesn't do it chop the tops of the strut tower's out and push them out to get more camber. I only want around 0 to -3 camber.

Oh also... 0 bump steer until on full lock, on the last 20mm of compression.... then the rack moves 2mm to whatever way the wheels going. Pretty darn happy about that! ;-)

--Redwork--
24th January 2012, 10:44 PM
I'm amazed that has 0 bump steer.
It must be a total fluke because none of that looks right..
It appears the imaginary line from ball joint to lca bush is no where near paralle to tie rod end to end of rack.
And the length between those points are also wildly differnt..

Jordain
24th January 2012, 11:19 PM
I totally agree. I thought I would have had to Machine the rack down at atleast within 5mm of the LCA bush.... it's no where near parallel to the tie rod end. The tie rods don't even sit parallel to the rack.

The rack is exactly 85mm from the centre of the centre of the LCA bushings. NOTE: I had a AE86 crossmember in my garage, and these had the rack about 115mm behind, not 85mm. I chose 85mm for a few reasons, one being it suited what I wanted for ackerman better, and secondly the KE20 steering knuckles (108mm modified) are considerably shorter than AE86 (132.5mm) and AE86 p/s ones (115, 120mmish- can't remember exactly. Also, this way it doesn't put too much strain on the KE20 knuckles and rack ends when turning with lots of lock.

The Rack is 6mm ABOVE the LCA inner pivot point. Saying that another way is the centre of the rack ends are 6mm higher from the ground than the centre of the LCA inner pivot points.

AE86 racks are 7mm higher. So very similar. In my 1/2 scale drawings, this measurement seemed to make the biggest difference to any bump steer.

Quote from Rob ( Successful KE20 R&P conversion )

"Did 2 attempts. first one I shortened the rack by how much closer the LCA inner pivot points are in my design, but it didn't work. A lot of bump steer, possibly more than a standard AE86. But it was toe in on compression, not toe out. Yuck.

Fitted a spare rack bar I had (standard length) and brilliant! No bumpsteer at all in compression and the in the first 25mm of droop. Then slight toe out with more droop. "

NOTE: Without the 40mm RCA's it would still have no bump steer in compression at all, nor at least for the first 65mm in droop. But this isn't much good for roll centres, and understeer would result in hard cornering (due to tire scrub, not bump steer obviously). Besides, a bit of extra ackerman on the inside wheel in turns never hurt... check out the competitive IP cars like the front line escorts

http://www.rollaclub.com/board/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-891-1267249663_thumb.jpg

It does have 0 bump steer. It does need a 40mm RCA though and I need to wind more camber in by making a set of custom struts.... Have to remove the Cast hub with stub and reset the strut tube with more King pin inclination angle............ :unseen:

undecided on shocks atm.... running TRD blues.

anyway sussssspension should be sorted in the next couple days. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/public/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif

Hopefully running soon... Tailshaft is getting made, once the firewall and tunnels done i'll get all the brake lines sorted, hook up my wilwood pedal box... start bolting it together.

For the rear end, All i'm going to do is run the flattened and stiffened Leaf springs, run an adjustable panhard rod and that's all. Will see how bad the tramp is.... if its terrible i'll go triagulated 4 link yo!

Sorting the Kaizan garage adaptor out..... I had to turn it upside down, redrill all the holes and remove the insulator block... and angle it on a mill around 8mm down as it hits my cowling..

Will update some pics soon as I want to get the #### finished..

BOUGHT a 5k motor and a 5 speed box with a 32/36 webber to get teh KE20 back on the road unredlabbled and only a wetweather skidder haha... then i'll sell it off..

Bought an ls1 and a t56, sikky engine mounting kit for S chassis... bought an s14 too.... although its fucked. haha!!

got the book thrown at me by the police in my ke20 corolla ( 4age 16v, ITBS, No interior, bucket seat, hydro handbrake, loud exhaust) and only TODAY nearly 4 months after getting caught drifting on the street i got charged in court. I was up for nearly everything they could possibly get somebody for drifting and being a hoon... and I got off with a neg driving charge. My mum passed away in febuary, I bought a TRX bluebird to do skids.... Now i'm more motivated than ever to finish my ke10.

Heres some pics of what's been happening.

SOOO i've learnt a lot. I've learnt how to powdercoat, ceramic coat, polish alloy.. I've learnt to become abit more of a perfectionist. I've been pumping out big hours on the 10 lately. I'm hoping to have it driving and registered in 3 months

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/7/1/3/507523.jpg

MA61 supra wheels fit nice.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/7/1/3/507524.jpg

But sadly.... ITBS, BEAMS and J160's don't fit into ke10s nicely... figured i had cut everything else so might aswell cut more.... so out came the drill and grinder

I love the description on the photo on the police rep.
Racing seat and harness , non standard... Stuff is that the worst he could do.
Cops should stop wasting tax payers money, chase crims not "punks"

It wasted $4500 of my monies, TAX payers money... and the best cops could come up with was" Racing seat and harness , non standard".. For christ sake, what about the twin cam motor in the car with no Emissions on the motor, NO engineers cert... Like... UGH annoys the fuckin shit out of me.

The best part about it was the HWY patrol who came down to defect me said "engine must be standard, its has Toyota all over it"... I just face palmed and went along with it. Went to the pub across the road and had a laugh afterwards haha!

Yeah heard correctly.. Bluebird popped, I fixed it... popped it again.. Now ive given up... but ill chuck another CA in and do a few things to it... not put 20pound through it this time either.
