FOR THOSE THAT CARE ABOUT WHATS HAPPENING AROUND AUSTRALIA, COUPLE ANNOUNCEMENTS THAT HAVE BEEN MADE IN REGARDS TO TASMANIAN DRIFTING

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/9/3/624.jpg

With round one quickly approaching, Drifting Tasmania is excited to announce the start of a new and exciting partnership between Drifting Tasmania, an official subcommittee of Hobart Sport Car Club and a newly formed but highly respected group known as The Drift Consortium.

This new relationship is an exciting opportunity for drifting in the state to further develop the Tasmanian drift scene and establish a solid hold on the states Motorsport calendar.

With the introduction to the Tasmanian drift scene, The Drift Consortium has brought an offer that Drifting Tasmania are quite excited to be able to announce.

For round one of the 2009 Tasmanian drift series held at Baskerville Raceway on the 7th March the Drift Consortium will be offering a $2,000 prize purse to be distributed between the first 3 places, but also further prizes on offer for the lower places.

John Delaney, Drifting Tasmania Co-leader stated “I am quite excited at the closure of this deal. Committee leaders Kieran, Mark and myself have been working on this deal for quite a number of weeks now. The opportunity to provide this to not only the local drivers, but the mainlanders making the trek across bass straight shows how quickly the Tasmanian Drift scene has come along in leaps and bounds, since that day so many years ago Full-Lock visited Tasmania and kick started an interest in Drifting within the state.”

This is just a start of things to come with the newly formed Drifting Tasmania/The Drift Consortium partnership, but also for the Tasmanian Drift series in 2009 and the future of drifting in Tasmania.

I call that all drivers support this offer as without support Drifting Tasmania can’t continue initiatives such as this and further the growth of the sport within the state.

Conditions do apply for a driver be eligible for the prize money however. These as stated by the Drift Consortium themselves upon offering the proposal.

• Driver must have completed and paid for entry before the 14/02/09
• Event must attract a minimum of 20 drivers on the day

ENTRY FORMS AND REGS AVAILABLE IN THE COMING DAYS....PLEASE PM ME WITH EMAIL ADDRESS TO ASSURE YOU ARE ISSUED WITH A NOTIFICATION AS SOON AS THEY ARE RELEASED

Hobart Sporting Car Club is proud to present the 2009 Specialised Performance Garage Tasmanian Drift Series. The first round of the 2009 series takes place at Baskerville Raceway on Saturday March 7th. Tasmania's finest drifters will not only have to battle each other but a strong contingent of mainland drivers eager to take the silverware back to the Big Island. Specialised Performance Garage once again prove their dedication to drifting and the Tasmanian performance car community by returning as title sponsors. Specialised Performance Garage owner Jonathon Barnes said “We at SPG are excited to be back for a second year as title sponsors and look forward to growing the business alongside drifting”.

2008 was a landmark year in Tasmanian drifting. With each round the spectacle grew in concert with speed, skills and professionalism as Tasmania gained a reputation as a force to be reckoned in Australian drifting. Seasoned competitors fine tuned their ability while talented newcomers quickly rose to the occasion with impressive performances in later rounds. This has led to a large talent base in a variety of well prepared vehicles for the 2009 series promising some of the fastest and closest drifting to date. As in 2008 the series will be split over 5 rounds with Baskerville Raceway hosting 3 rounds with the other two taking place at Symmons Plains just outside Launceston.

In addition to sponsoring the series Specialised Performance Garage have entered a two car team consisting of Drift Australia driver Paul Austin from South Australia and 2008 Tasmanian Drift series champion Ben Purtell. Despite his recent success Ben's goal is simply to “improve with each event”. Even so with two newly built cars and proven competition pedigree they will certainly be the cars to beat. Another hot favourite and former round winner is Josh Priseman, now driving the Tas Mobile Mechanics prepared 180SX. “The car is a monster” said Josh, “Alan and Martin have done an awesome job with setup but I am wary of everyone this year as talent and cars have definitely stepped up!”. Snapping at their heels will be more than a dozen drivers all with a chance at taking the Round 1 crown including a number of Drift Australia competitors eager to sample what has been described as “the best drift track in the country”.

To see all the action head to Baskerville Raceway this Saturday. Spectator Entry is free and the action will start with practice at 10am.

Contingent, silverware, professionalism, best, some pretty big words there. Pure poetry. You paste it as a quote, but who are you quoting?

No longer do I compare drift racing to BMX racing in 1981. Such is the standard of press releases, I now compare it to BMX racing in 1986. Soon the general public will think you have to have a team and sponcer to enter.

I'm impressed with how things are looking in Tas. Organised, with businesses on board and professional sounding.

It must have taken a bunch of work, so congratulations and I hope it continues well.

Also thanks to Hen for coming down for Tassies first drift weekend ever if I remember right. I entered on the Saturday, and sort of crashed out, or didn't make the speed anyhow. And Hen (a Pro drifter by this stage) was invited to compete on the Sunday.

Eeerrrr... yes, I was a pro drifter...

It was a great weekend down in Tas (as always) but I have to admit I thought I drove terribly, in fact I should post up my favourite picture of the day... here (http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/7778/symonsmudrun.jpg). Chris Dejager and I also made the local paper, but in all the shots I was understeering and he was spinning, now that's pro drift.

And back on topic I reckon everyone should head down for drift in Tas, make a weekend of it, everyone's friendly, new tracks and it's just a change of scene.
