another update, got a new alternator belt and cleaned the engine bay, came up mint, just needs a few touch ups, hopefully get that done on friday. really keen to get the new engine in but waiting on a set of steering bushes from America :/ also does anyone know any good toyota wreckers? after a few bits for the engine.

I wish I was like you and was impatient mines taken two years but its hard to find time between a full time job and a missus lol plus having two other cars that chew the dollars.

Those stone trays were standard as far as I knew every corolla I've seen untouched by someone trying to mod it has one. Unfortunately your gonna have to lose it when you put in the 4AGE as the sump will hit the tray or so I've heard but you could cut it to make it fit.

As for wreckers man a lot are expensive for 4AGE parts what exactly are you after? This site has got me most of my parts just have the cash ready and check the parts for sale or post up in the wanted section you'd be surprised how quick you'll get stuff.

Trust me no you dont, ive burned a pretty large hole in my pocket :( but im hoping ti will be worth it whne its done. yea see i dont have a job atm and im only at tafe 2 and a half days a week, so i get alot of time to work on the car. hmmm hope it doesnt, if it does ill just get rid of it. really :/ im after some bits off the fuel rail, one fuel rail bolt and spacer, main fuel inlet fitting and the line that goes from the inlet manifold into the fuel rail with fittings on each end, also anybody know how much i would be looking at for these?

I've pretty much burnt a hole right through my pocket and leg and pretty close to sacrificing my two nuts too lol. So far up to $16,881.71 and still gotta buy 4 tyres, adaptronic e420c, CAS and coil packs, Tseries disc brake diff with LSD, rego and engineering cert. I estimate that to be another $4500.
Even selling my pride and joy 2006 XR8 ute to give me some extra cash so this rolla better be worth it. Wish I never kept track of how much I spent if I sell the car I would be lucky to get $5k

Man you could get that all made up at your local pirtek or Enzed just take it in and tell them what you want they can make it to size.

wow, i guess i haven't really spent that much. i'm sure it will man, will handle like a go kart, but be 7X as fast. well its all in good fun man, when doing up cars you never get back what you spend making them better, just the way it goes.

yea i tried, but the guy said they didn't have them, ill give them a call tomorrow and see if i can order them in.

Bluterus
20th May 2011, 10:35 AM
Some of them are douches and have no idea. I went to an enzed and they're like we don't have that. Spoke to an old guy there and he's like we don't have that but I can make it so waited 20mins and he made it up on the lathe and shit. I got all my braided turbo lines and fittings done there.

The corolla certainly is like a gokart when I jack it up the wheel arches dont extend away from the wheels at all. When I push it down too it springs up so quick.

yea i'm guessing so, the guy i talked to had no clue :gah: still have to go and get my bits from enzed. hahaha wow what a lazy fag! so jealous of your setup, really want a decent set up in mine, but funds arn't really allowing that at them moment :/

Anyway i've been a bit lazy in updating this but finally got round to taking some photos and doing a write up. done a fair few things on the car, stripped back and painted the:

tie rod ends
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/1/8/5/70732.jpg

the crossmember

valve covers in VHT wrinkle (extra jdm points yo!)
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/1/8/5/70735.jpg

and the brake booster, brake line splitter, alternator bracket and the gearbox stays
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/1/8/5/70736.jpg

Also decided to get the engine checked out instead of just putting it in and hoping for the best. so i stripped down the engine, ready to be checked over by the engine rebuilders. since it was in that decided that i was going to paint it, so have scuffed all the paint with a wire brush bit. just need to go over it with wax and grease remover and paint it.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/1/8/5/70737.jpg

since the engine was out and i had access to parts of the engine bay that i normally would have, thought i should paint it, so i've cleaned it and stripped most of the stuff out of it. Will just mask off the rest of the stuff.

yea it sounds good but i was kinda after a flat colour rather then a metallic, due to the car being flat white, think it would look a bit odd. but will check it out and see what it looks like. yea metallic gun metal grey ketos look pretty good.

what you think of that???

(guessing your not interested in coil's anymore?)

hmm that does look good, will have to get some colour cards tomorrow and have a think.

yea had a think about it and think i should finish the engine conversion before i start buying suspension stuff.

Flat Grey I think will look tacky as shit will look like glossy primer don't think it will suit the white at all. I'd say either black or white. Black can be shit though cause it shows everything. That gun metal does look pretty awesome though.

But man all in all if you like Battleship grey and want it just do it man who cares what other people think its your car do what you want.

hmm you might be right, sort of leaning towards gun metal grey. yea that what i thought it would be like with the white, would show up all the dirt and grease.

got a fair amount of work done lately on the keto, mounted the steering rack on the crossmember with new prothane bushings, pulled the tank out and fitted the fuel pump and wires. completely stripped the bay of everything, ready to be cut back with steel wool. also painted engine mounts and crossmember bolts. still have to buy high fill and 2pac for the bay but that will happen some time this week. also does anyone have a 4age coil that there willing to sell? will get pics soon.

Also i had a look in the ports and the inlet manifold and there was heaps of black gunk in them :worried: not sure what to do, was thinking of just using a pipe cleaner and turps to clean it off, but i don't want it to fall into the engine. does anyone have any suggestions as to how to clean it out? has anyone had to clean this out before?

leave it black, its just from the pcv and no-one will ever see in there when it's together, you'll probably cause more problems than you'll solve by trying to get rid of it, unless you want to pull it apart and have it cleaned in a rotissery parts cleaner.

Bluterus
9th June 2011, 11:38 AM
I wouldn't even worry about the cleaner either. Once you clean it off it will just come back anyways. If you're worried about the small bits just stick a vacuum on the ports to suck it out. Really leaving it dirty I think will make no difference to the power it produces if you haven't touched the bottom end.

Have you pulled the sump man? If not do it it will take max 1hr to take it off and the pickup tube give it a thorough clean and refit that way your nice clean new oil stays nice and clean.
If you do it when you pop the sump off the block theres two plates. Undo all the sump bolts then pull off the sump then you can undo the three bolts on the pickup tube and remove it then you can remove the baffle plate covering the crankshaft.

Ady70

Yeah, clean out the pick up then once it's running use about 3-400mls of diesel in with your first load of oil, run for 10-15 mins at idle or whatever and then drop the oil and refill again. Cheap "engine cleaner".

ok, yea i wasn't really worried about anyone seeing it, was more thinking about all the muck getting into the engine :/ also what is pvc? yea don't really want to pull the engine apart.

ok cleaning it is useless. ah k i thought if it got crud in the engine, the petrol wouldn't burn as well because if all of the dirt. not yet but i will be doing that, ok ill make sure i do that cheers :)

why shouldnt you run breather to mani?its how factory intended it to be isnt?

im guessing because it puts oil fumes into the inlet manifold and therefore into the engine. which will eventually clog up your inlet ports.

ok so i thought i would revive this thread. haven't had much time to work on the car due to having end of term exams and assignments but now there all done, time to get cracking. didn't get many photos as i didn't think to take any at the time.

Didn't too get much done today. i started by pulling the sump off to check everything wasn't all gunked up, upon inspections it was clean as, except the last owner had drilled a new hole in the sump to run a tube and hadn't cleaned off the shards after drilling.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/1/8/5/178497.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/1/8/5/178496.jpg

On further looking i noticed tiny shards of metal :( at first i thought it was my bearings but i'm hoping its some of the shards that the previous owner didn't clean up and not bits of my bearings.

feeling quite dis heartened i decided to leave the engine and work on getting the pedal box and stuffed heater core out.

Man I didn't have to cut anything to fit the pedal box in it bolts straight in. If you mean the holes for the clutch master that was easy.
http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?title=Upgrades:KE70_cable_to_hydraulic_c lutch
Thanks to this dude on Rollaclub. That bit above where the clutch line came through I just cut it off completely as I thought it looked tacky hacking a chunk out. Then you can see next to where the brake booster mounts that indent where the clutch master sits perfectly drill the holes and then use a dremel to elongate the holes if you're off a bit. You can get the pedalbox in without taking out the whole dash pad too its a bit of a bitch but I managed.

You see that so called tube the previous owner put in thats for a catch can. I wouldn't have a car without a catch can.
my 2006 xr8 when I rebuilt it at 80,000kms the intake manifold was full of black oily crud and so was all the throttlebody. If you know commodores they have this same issue with the throttlebodies always sticking from the gunk sucked in. My saab is a prime example the breather goes from the rocker cover to the intake tube between the filter and turbo and the turbo was sucking in oil.
http://www.billzilla.org/4agstock3.htm Read this about the oil system. The 4AGE has a tedency to dump oil in the manifold in hard left corners.

Put a catch can in run a line from the rocker cover to the can then from the can back to the manifold if you like fill it with steel wool and run a line to where the previous owner put that connection and you're done. Personally I skip the back to the sump bit cause you can run the risk of condensation in the catch can and it mixing into your oil. It takes a long time to fill one so I just dump it when I do my oil change if there it any in there.

As for bearings just see how much movement they have in them the rods will move from the front to the back of the crankshaft a real little but shouldn't have any movement from side to side i.e. engine mount to engine mount.

okk sweet thanks man, might go with loctite just cause i'm guessing it will be easier to get and cheaper. haha sounds like the gasket that was on there from the previous owner. ok so i thought i would update this thread, firstly i found out my 4age had no compression :( so i have decided to build it rather then refresh. i have a thread about it in the general topics forum, so if you could check it out that would be great! :) haven't really had much time to work on the car lately, but got a few hours in today.

only thing i really did was redo all of the welds and finish the stitch welding on the left side of the engine bay.

i grinded them back cause i knew they were shit. and if you are talking about the other ones, its my first go at welding and i'm using a gas less mig so its pretty crap, if i had the option to use a gas mig then i would, just using whats available. cant afford to spend $600+ on a good gas mig and keep up with the bottle hire.

yea its just standard bog. I could have used fibregalss stuff, but dont know how much difference it would have made, plus its a bitch to work with. In hind sight i probabaly shouldnt have welded the bay or should have gotten someone who can weld better to do it.

But my initial aim of this project was to do as much of the work as i could myself, so i thought i would give it a go. Guess the best thing to take from this is that i have learnt from my mistakes

yea i'm pretty sure i took the proper steps to prep the surface. I hit the bare metal with rust kill primer, rubbed the primer back with steel wool, then hit all the surfaces with wax and grease remover before bogging.

best way to put bog in. sand the area with 80 grid paper back to bare metal. always sand wider then neccesary so to make sure bog doesnt go on the paint ( it wont stick proper unless uve got special bog) Rust kill if u wish to but not sure how the bog will react with it. mix the bog up according to directions. apply the bog directly to the bare metal in thin smooth layers. pulling it in in the direction ur goin to sand it. be sure to mix the bog so the colour is uniform throughout. if its got a marbel affect keep mixing being sure to push the air bubbles out as u do so. if its goin hard while ur still mixing it or while ur putting it in add less hardner the next time, and same goes for if it wont go hard at all, add more hardner, general rule is a golf ball to a pea, golf ball of bog to a pea of hardner.

once the bog has set sand it back with 80 grid to get the jelly off the top (the shiney bit). sand with the 80 grid until its pretty much where u want it, then sand with 180 grid and 320 to get rid off all the fine scratches.

prime the area after ur happy with everything, 2 0r 3 coats should do

another good tip. always fill the entire area u want to bog. for example: say u swipe the bog into an area, u sand it out and u want to put a bit more bog in a smaller part of the area cause its still a bit low or wat ever reason, DONT just put bog in that area, fill the whole area again but only put a small film over the parts ur already happy with, other wise u will be sanding the new area and ull be rubbing the bog out of the good area as u do so.

Bog can stick over paint and rustkill and just any old bog will do. Its all about how you prep it, mix the bog and how you lay it on. You gotta spread it out and go waayy past what your actually bogging and rub it smooth I'll do all spots minimum 3 times bog rub bog rub bog rub.

I've got a real good bog at work I wish I found years ago that is amazing and so easy to rub.

As people have said in that location will most certainly crack.

Heres a project ute I did god 2004 I think sold it in 2008 and saw it about 6 months ago and the thing still hasn't cracked.

This was before it was finished and just used K&H Bog. Think I bogged and sanded this like 8 times.

u dont hav to go all the way back to bare metal but ur better off doing so to ensure it will stick. and some bogs wont stick to paint. i spose its different up here in qld to where old mate is from in vic. we hav bogs that will cope with the humidity for during summer and hotter months and different bogs for winter that sets off a little faster. then theres fine filler bog, which will stick to paint as long as its been sanded, always good to use this stuff to fill pin holes and small repairs, its alot softer then the regular bog so doesnt need to be sanded as hard to get it down. and it shouldnt rust under the bog if all the rust has been cut out and plates welded in. and u can fill an area in one go, if its that low that u need to load it up three times then u should panel beat the panel more instead of just filling it back to shape.

ah k, wow didn't know there was so much to bog:S thought there was only a couple of different types. i've got a few shallow dips and a some pin holes, should i get some fine filler bog or should normal stuff be fine? yea thats true, not a fan of bogging unnecessarily, would rather fix the imperfections then cover it up.

Fine fill bog is handy to hav. But isn't super necessary to hav. U can fill the slight scratches and pin holes with the primer. Just put a few more coats of primer down. But it is good for filling slight dints without goin back to bare metal. And for a home job repair and someone whos never done it before, bog from ur local auto store will be fine. Nuther thing I dont think has been mentioned. Use a sanding board wen sanding. Flat and not flexible. The bigger the area the longer u want. U can get boards from hardware stores or auto shops. And use 80grid first to get the main shape or u will be sanding for days and won't be as good. the rough paper cuts the top off and gets it level. If u had a small sanding block it would follow the highs and lows where long will go over the top cutting it back.

okk, yea have been using regular bog to fill on l the little dints and pin holes. with the sanding board, the places that i have been working on are so curvy i haven't really had a chance to use the one i have much, but have been using it where possible. yea i've been using 80 grit to shape it, am now onto using 120 grit to start to take out the scratches.

looking good man, and most jap cars hav the same pitch and thread for the same size nut and bolt, for example, all 10mm nut and bolts hav the same pitch and thread, so u could get a bolt that holds ur guard on and it will fit to hold ur dash in, but on saying that always try and put the bolt in by hand all the way before u get a spanner/ socket onto it, getting snapped bolts out sucks lol

What filter is that I need One before my Pump?

Its just a low pressure carby filter, i don't know if you need it. I just put one in to be safe, so no shit gets into my surge tank.

Reason i used a carby filter not a high pressure one is because before my surge tank its only a low pressure setup. will be putting a high pressure one in just before the fuel rail.

The colour was supposed to be battleship grey, but it came out darker then i expected, its 2 pac paint.I have the paint code if you want it? i sprayed it with gravity fed guns on some elcheapo compressor . new shifter also rocked up today, was searching around on ebay for bubble shifters and found this one

Now on second thoughts I probs did the wrong thing back then. If you put spacers above the centre bearing those centres are probably correct once the part is lower as the bolts being on their angle will point inwards.

lol did that work for you though? and did you have any problems? i'm thinking of either cutting off the end of the bracket to make it like an open c spanner and just using large washers or making small brackets, not sure which one i will do, will let you guys know how it goes.

ok so its been ages since i updated this, have been on holidays for the last 6 weeks so nothing has been happing with the car. but did get some stuff done before i left, so get ready for a long post.

ok so i gave it to SMD workshop to get it wired up, i thought it would be fairly straight forward. how wrong i was:right:
first up my injectors were screwed, no matter what we did we couldn't get them to pulse. so went about sourcing another set only to find they weren't the right type.... so got another set which ended up being good.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/1/8/5/284955.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/1/8/5/284956.jpg

We put them in and tried to fire it up, but the injectors weren't getting enough power, found out i didn't have a injector resistor. so took a trip to Smithfield to get that, put in and that sorted that out, but now it was running really rich(had to keep the revs above 2000rpm or it would die) after a couple of hours of trying to fix it we couldn't work out what it was, so its still rich as running. Then to add to things i found out that my rear main seal was leaking. But eventually we got in running enough to take it for a quick spin, but with the luck i had been having something had to happen... and it did :(

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/1/8/5/284957.jpg

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/5/1/8/5/284958.jpg

i must have forgotten to do up the wheel nuts properly(only had them on loosely because i was trying to put in my lock spacer before it went to the shop)

luckily nothing was damaged badly, just scraped the lower control and snapped a stud. so put the wheel back on and tightened all the wheel nuts properly and set off home. funnily enough the drive home was pretty smooth sailing(just had to top up the oil a bit and check the spark plugs), until i got into my street. i took the car for a quick spin up the street only for it to die on me at the end.

No matter what i did i couldn't get it started. so got the 4wd and dragged it back home. Finally got it into the garage and set about trying to find out why it wasn't starting. popped the bonnet, having a look around, i found that one of my thermo fan plugs was not plugged in and had not been for the whole drive home ( was a 45min drive). the engin was pretty dam hot, so was the intake(couldn't hold my hand on it). Then decided to check the plugs again, pulling out spark plug number 4 my stomach dropped, the thread on it was threaded!!!! i must have done it when i was checking the plugs when i pulled over(did it when it dark and raining with no light). so am going to have to get the head taken off and get the spark plug hole re threaded and check that the head isn't warped. Plus i may have a dud engine, when the car was running they guys at SMD thought it sounded like it was getting piston slap or the clearances hadn't been set right, so am going to have to get that checked as well:S So yea have lost a lot of motivation with this car but i wont let it stop me getting it finished. just have to get some money up first to so i can get things happening again.

Did Ryan tell you how much he paid for the rebuild? And how much work was done for that price?
or how many issues that motor had when it was pulled apart ? That we're noted and made known to Ryan ?
As for oil leaks Ryan supplied a very poor quality vrs kit

In a budget build were issues should have been properly adressed but couldn't be 1. Because money did not want to be spent 2. Because he wanted it done ASAP there is bound to be small issues and teething problems ...as for clearencing/slap issues it was advised that it go to the next size ie.20thou over but I don't think Ryan could afford pistons there for the best alternative was applied Ryan was advised about the fact that it would be noisy because of this

Kina odd that all 4 injectors were not firing and they went about replacing them all.
Where abouts in Syd are you? Might be able to lend a hand if I get some spare time.

Yeah I thought it was odd too, but each injector was pulsed manually, with no success. From what I can remember, Ryan said they had been sitting for a while, so chances are they were just gummed up. But on the very limited budget (I think he paid under $600 for the job, which included replacing numerous sensors etc) it was cheaper to source another set of injectors, rather than have the dead ones serviced. Considering the fuck around this job was (engine was pretty well just placed in the car, with alot of things not connected or not there), and the amount of hours spent on the car to correct what was wrong with it (was supposed to only be wiring, not finishing the conversion), Ryan came out of it cheaply, he is a good kid, and I made sure that was the case.

So lets move on, and get to the more important issue at hand, and thats getting the car running, with as little coin as possible, cause it is one cool little KE.

Ok it was a cheaper build but thats because mostly assembly and machine work was done. We agreed on a price (which went up due to what he found). I supplied 90% of the parts for the rebuild which were all quality parts - acl bearings, arp rod bolts, trd headgasket, new toyota genuine headbolts etc. sure the motor a few problems but isn't the idea of a rebuild to fix or rectify the problems with an engine? ok sure the gasket kit was a generic brand but matt said you couldn't get toyota genuine vrs kits for this engine so the next best thing. I never said I wanted it done ASAP - it took longer than matt said it would but i was OK with this. And when any issues with the engine were brought up, i asked the advice/recommendation of the builder what to about these issues and went with it.

as for not going oversized pistons, i asked matt what his thoughts were. He asked what i would be using the car for, told him street use and some track work. He said as long as i used a thick good quality oil and made sure i kept an eye on my oil levels, using the standard pistons should be fine it may be a little noisy on warm up.

I supplied the FWD loom for this as it was what was being asked for... Either way, it doesn't matter who was at fault etc. a young member off here has cut corners which he probably thought where ok to cut.

What can everyone here involved do to help him get it sorted?

I got a block he can have

cheers dude, depending on how my engine turns out i might hit you up for that.

Dude, Throw on a BBQ and some beers, and im sure a few of us will be more then willing to come help you sort it out.

hmm this could be arranged, have a few little things i need to get done first (get some parts and the head sent of to get checked out) but may organise one :)

yea it would be good if i could get a hand from some of you guys. Theres a few things i've never really done before (pulling a head off, setting timing (guessing if you take the head off you put the timing out and it will need to be re set)) that have to be done and would be good to have people there who have done it before to save me from screwing something up. i've got most of the tools and equipment needed to do everything, unless there is a strange specialist tool needed to replace a rear main seal or pull a head off.

Just saying i had 4 injectors stuck open, after mine sitting around for a while put them onto bench tester, soon as pressure hit like 20 PSI they pissed out, like everyone has said, people will help out, my cars fucked ill still help you out, i got a bottom end also here that might be fine (bp) all together sitting outside

yea probs just need to be cleaned and flowed to fix them, have to get that done with one of the sets i've got anyway. ok ill see how i go, hoping that its just the valve clearances that need doing, but if its something more major ill give you a yell.

Main things i need to get done on the car are:
- replace rear main seal
- take head off and send it off to get checked out and get spark plug hole re tapped.
- change sensors over to ae82 ones and hook them up
- if that doesn't help the running rich then see if i have a vacuum leak

Whilst this may be true, the motor shouldn't have been re-assembled as it was as it was done on the provision of "you might get away with it".

Lesson learnt by all involved so there is no need to keep going on about it.

We're does duty of care come into anything when he didn't want to spend the money to fix issues at hand what mats supposed to front his own money to fix Ryan's issues just to cover his ass?

All issues were made known to Ryan and advised that they've properly dealt with and fixed in the right way considering that mat built a 4agete before Ryan's motor that ran 20pound through it any issues that arose during the build were fixed and all necessary measures were taken to properly and assertively fix them there were no short cuts or cheaping out to keep costs down last I heard that motor was making around 200kw with ease ?

Gunner
7th March 2012, 09:05 AM
mat agreed to take on the job, mat was aware of what could happen, and from this he should of told ryan that it would not be right and refused to do the job, as jt would fail prematurely. we are not talking about what mat has built before, we are talking about ryans engine. personally i dont care what he has done bfore as it carries no bearing on this situation.

Ill make it easy for you to understand, I as a qualified mechanic am doing a turbo upgrade on an rb25, the customer has supplied me with a poor quality oil feed line. I would be well withiin my rights to refuse to finish the job as I believe it is not safe. But if i told the customer i didnt think it was safe, then fitted it anyway. The customer then goes down the road the line ruptures, oils down the tyres and the customers prangs the car, I would be at fault, not the customer for beimg a tight ass. I fitted that part, it was in my duty of care to ensure the job was done right, and the right parts were used.

Shit happens, end of the day mat built the engine, mat built it with incorrect parts, mat knew it wasnt right, yet he proceeded, when he should of said, he is not going to finalise the.job as he does not have the right bits to do it correctly and it may fail. That is how he should of covered his ass, he fucked up, there is.no need to go on and on about it.

Mat is a young guy with potential, he made a.mistake about he went about this job, you guys need accept that and move on.

70rolla
7th March 2012, 10:26 AM
He may have a made a mistake in carrying on with this job he thought he was doing the right thing buy helping Ryan as a young guy to get his car up and running just like you did with the wiring etc correct ?

My point at the end of the day is that this could simply have been avoided from the begining and easily corrected if Ryan had done what mat advised and gone to the next size ...this is a valuable lesson for not only Ryan.but anyone else that chooses to read over this thread cheaper options and cutting corners in a long term car build In particular the engine is just going to cause more hassles and grief In the long term ...do it once do it right if you don't have the money to do it today you can always get it done when funds prevail............

I never said i wanted to keep costs down, i just didn't want an all out build just a reco, i still wanted him to do everything that needs doing. And no its not that didn't want to spend money on toyota genuine seals its because i didn't know that you could still get them, i thought that you could only get generic ones. Now that i have learnt that you can still get gasket sets new from toyota i'm swapping out all the old ones for toyota genuine. You ask why i didn't get the gaskets individually, how could i? i didnt know what seals went into the engine apart from a head gasket, so i would have had no idea what to get. I was never impatient with matt, i didn't ring him up asking why it wasn't done yet or say that it was taking too long. It took longer then was i was told it would, but i was cool with that, i didn't want a rushed rebuild.

As for not going oversized pistons, matt never told me that it would get piston slap with the standard ones that were in there and that it would shorten the life of my motor. He said it would be a bit noisy on warm up, but run fine when at running temperature. If had known using the standard pistons would cause these issues i would have gone oversized. But being my first time getting an engine rebuilt i had no idea, so i just did what ever matt said needed to be done. I appreciate that mat was trying to help me out and do me a favour, but i would have preferred he told me up front that these pistons would not work rather then they should be fine.

got the engine back last sat but had a big night before so didn't get much done. Spent the whole of sunday and monday getting the engine in and everything hooked up. Crossed my fingers and tuned the key.... it wouldn't start. checked over all the fuses and fuel lines everything looked ok, then i found one of the fuel pump wires unplugged in the boot -.-

plugged that in and it fired up first go, was running good and not rich like last time.

took it for a quick run up and down the road, the alignment was really out and there were rattles everywhere. but i didn't care i was so happy to have it moving by itself :)

theres still heaps of stuff that need to be checked like the alignment and all the rattles but that will come soon.

Not sure at this stage, but when i spin the centre shaft in neutral it makes a clunking noise at some points:right: And when it happened, you would take off and then it would stop suddenly, as if something was stuck in the gears :S. Am going to get it pulled apart and see whats wrong.

Yea man, have come to that conclusion as well. If you play with cars, expect them to break.
