Nicko
17th May 2011, 09:44 AM
Yeah? How many factory cars come in with low low and dish these days?

McLEVIN
17th May 2011, 09:54 AM
lol was taking the piss, on a serious note i do like it, it has alot of potential

*bj*

Love the paintwork, hope we can order it from the factory.

Nicko
17th May 2011, 10:00 AM
Order that as paintwork and it will cost a fortune.

What you see on that car would be $400 worth of printed vinyl and about 2 days labour for two guys to do the "wrap" ;)

McLevin : I reckon it has heaps. I just wish they'd let the potential new owners touch it so we know if this thing is win or fail.

About the paint...Is it like that to try disguise any body lines/shape etc whilst they are still test driving/prototyping?

Nicko
17th May 2011, 11:54 AM
It isn't paint. Its printed vinyl - same stuff they do car stickers / wraps with

And yeah, its to hide the styling while they are test driving it in public.

Pretty common to see.

17th May 2011, 12:19 PM
Yeah vinyl - I knew that, but my mind made me write Paint. No one would spend the time to paint a car like that especially when it is just for a disguise.

First time I have seen a car like that though, guess I haven't paid much attention to new car releases until the FT86.

Edit: I do actually like how it is coming along though. Only thing I don't fully like is that the back end looks a bit bubble-ish, but hey, I'm sure it'll be changed again between now and release. Either way I'd have one if I could afford it :D

i like it

Todd
17th May 2011, 01:50 PM
so do i. the curves are a bit less agressive judging by those urban camo pics, but has potential to be a great car.

the car in the spy pics look like the one below, which im sorta of not really feeling the rear

I don't like the squared off lines of the Scion...

keeping that flowing roundness makes it a bit more faithful to the old AE86...

Also, I agree - more ducktail would be epic!

McLEVIN
17th May 2011, 05:32 PM
this is actual fustrating so many versions, so much speculation. is it still a boxer engine or a toyota engine

Dont care, just make it already

jaz_ae86
17th May 2011, 09:23 PM
does it have STI wheels?

Do like, so does wife. Only downside is very doubtful it will tow. 2.5turbo will be enough torque, but car weight less than AE86+trailer

Maybe I get the wife to keep my FG turbo to tow, daily the FT.....

Nicko
17th May 2011, 09:29 PM
Tow with an FT86? lol That would be a sight for sure... dunno how you would go with a 1200kg car towing 2000kg of trailer and AE86...

jaz_ae86
17th May 2011, 09:44 PM
I was working on more like 900Kg AE86, 100Kg tools, 400Kg trailer

Nicko
17th May 2011, 09:57 PM
400KG of trailer? sounds very minimal. All the tandems i've ever come across would be 800-900kg minimum?

jaz_ae86
17th May 2011, 10:15 PM
Trailer designed to carry a dunnydore: 6-700kg
Trailer design/built to tow and AE86(sub 1000Kg): 400kg

Hire trailers are the worst because they are used to carry tanks by the general moron public who don't care.

Yeah rims do look STI, and shit, Don't suit it at all.

Vance
17th May 2011, 11:33 PM
i like the rims. would look good with better offset though.

looks good apart from that hideous wing. defs needs moar ducktail

ive seen oldies around my way towing a caravan with a late model corolla hatch

Concept compared to production model = fail..

but it all has to start somewhere right?

Nicko
18th May 2011, 10:43 AM
Only time will tell...

I think the fact this is coming out as a RWD platform is the first thing that has been done right.
Concept II was a step in the right direction also IMO

I wonder if we will get the FT86 or Duke Nukem Forever first? :)

focus_7
18th May 2011, 05:16 PM
Well Duke Nukem Forever comes out on June 10, so my bet is we'll get DNF first.

Nicko
18th May 2011, 05:32 PM

Todd
18th May 2011, 08:15 PM
woah wait what?! a NEW DUKE NUKEM?!

god damn, i remember those aliens and the strippers in the club. swing a bunch of pipe bombs in there and voila! job done.

mrbigport
18th May 2011, 09:43 PM
I'd like to see it come out with a 2az or a 2ar engine...the scion boys are pulling big numbers out of the camry/rav4/rukus engine plus it keeps it true to the twin cam 4cyl setup we all know n love.

that...and between the brian crower 2.7lt kit and the off the shelf turbo kits all the aftermarket parts are ready to go....hell the scion time attack car runs a 2az off its head at 1400hp...and they have a "street" xB (rukus in australia) with 900hp!!

in a light rwd even 50% of those figures would be balistic

Smashing the 'ring with a Supra-esque spoiler (or should I say STi wing)

Hmm, I wish that we had some more definitive information for what is happening.

Autoblog says its the Scion FR-S prototype.

I think that looks a lot more like an OG 86 than the FT86II concept. The II concept has much sharper lines.

The spoiler was probably thrown on as a joke (hey lets put a spoiler on it and see what they post on their forums)

HTFU Toyota!!!

Always wondered how a "concept" car can be road registered - Imagine all the bugs it's running around with :gah:

Cool clip though !

So it looks like the urban camo pics are of the Scion FR-S. The styling is a lot different to the FT86 II Concept as I previously mentioned...
