Rear side windows- removal

I've gotta take out the fixed side window on the passenger side of my sprinter to fix some rust. I was wondering, what is the best way to do it? last time i tried taking a fixed window out i smashed it, so i dont want to make that mistake again...

If its not been removed before (factory sponge sealer), its pretty easy. Undo all the retaining clips (remove the screws and they will come off). Once thats done, see how stuck down the window is (it may come off fairly easy). If not, get a stanley knife and begin to cut the foam sealer while gently pulling on the window toward you (i would start from the top of the hatch area first and work down to the bottom). You can also remove the trim inside the car and cut the sealer inside (just be careful and make sure the window wont drop :P). Once the sealer is cut, it should come off.

To replace the foam, bunnings sell single sided glued foam rolls for sealing doors and joints. Its a little thicker than you need so cut the strip down the middle, peal back the tape and stick it to how the old one was applied on your window. On the non sticky side, apply some rubber/contact cement/adhesive and fix the window back to the car.

I personally wouldn't bother with the original style foam, just use the sikaflex brand window sealer its about $20 a tube from bunnings and stores a like, all you need is a corking gun.

to get them out i used a ziptie... make a hole in the sikaflex and stick the ziptie through, ten just drag it around the seal while pulling gently on the window

smae method as windscreen fitters use but obviously they dont use zipties :P

Sikaflex is for lazy people, but it will give you more work to do if it comes out again! The ziptie method worked on the foam, but not on the sikaflex when i did it (it really was some hard shit) :/ Took me 2 days to remove all the old sikaflex!

^ Yeah true, one of my side windows had been redone with sikaflex at some stage and it was truly a royal cunt to get out.

i did my rear with piano string/ guitar string. poke a hole get someone inside, and CAREFULLY run it around. once's it's off get a good solvent/ paint cleaner, prep sol. to clean away the nasty stuff.. any paint supply place( perhaps the same store that will supply your prep sol,) will have window sealant in a coiled up strip, it's much easier to apply, than the tube's with require a special high powered caulking gun. ask them for a suggestion tell them what your doing. asking never costs anything so it's worth asking people who deal with this type of work everyday.

what about the clips holding the window in? does anybody know where to get replacements (part numbers or similar parts from another vehicle)?

a fair few of mine broke or were already broken the first time i took my windows out, so my window trim doesn't clip on properly anymore. it even flaps a bit in the wind on the highway.
