any new plans with the car?

got a bottom end i can get built up but considering my options cams in mind atm went for a slide last night and wasn't happy with the power in the dry need a set of them other than that getting my handling all set up wright

also engine pic coming up it looks sorta stupid with earthing wires everywhere but its really responsive with it in

also included is a pic of my gauges and dash setup

thats so fresh. looks mint as. is a nice build ay

Clinton
29th December 2008, 12:06 AM
mat you do know that earthing kit seriously wont do anything

also with the money you paid to get that manifold made up you could of got itb's... did you realise that?

update on engine pics with newly added airbox from my daily workhorse vr commie doing a post on how to D.I.Y all required is a couple of brackets and a block off plate and presto all done it looks fairly stock too runs smother with it in also btw this is the reason i didn't go itbs Clint cheers boys good to see some other people know a nice looking rolla when they see 1

so you got the pleasure or running an air box? i dont get it?

so you got the pleasure or running an air box? i dont get it?

ITBs are inexpensive to buy, yes around the same money as getting a rwd smallport manifold together. That is until you realise that the ITBs will run like a bag of crap on a standard bigport ecu. You might just need to factor in the cost of engine management and an itb manifold in your sweeping statements and assumptions.

The joy of ITBs is short lived when you take into account the air is going to be more available yes, but much, much hotter as it goes straight from engine bay to combustion chamber. I can monitor intake air temps in my car and I can tell you my inlet air temp is usually around 15 degrees hotter than ambient around town, on the highway its ambient though.

With that VR setup it looks tidy, will sacrifice a little throttle response in place of a smoother drive with better combustion and probably a touch more torque. There are K and N panels available for them, too.

Tidy work.

yeah but he spent a stack on getting a smallport manifold converted to rwd and an adapter plate made up because an engine builder whispered that it flows better. but running it on a std ECU (like he is planning on doing) its going to have as much difference as if i pissed onto a raging fire.

I still bet hes spent nothing like what quads, and adapter for them, trumpets, filters, ecu and a tune costs (must be close on 3k to do it properly and actually show some gains). It will run almost perfect as the two manifolds are so similar in design and runner length, especially when quads are the comparison were making. If he put quads on a standard ecu like you said, that would run like a 3 legged dog and give him around 300klms to a tank, it will be that rich. Ask Daim how many ks he got to a tank before his motor went!!! FFS. Your tech advice is sorely lacking any thought. Who can blame him for listening to an engine builder. I'm sure you'd know better, right Clinton.

pen15
31st December 2008, 10:02 AM
well i was trying to achieve the stock look a set of quad throttles dont look stock and it wasnt the look im going for my intake mod as seen here cost me $50 to get custom fitted and the intake cost me $150 supplied and converted and another $50 for the adaptor plate made up total $250 as oposed to about $3000 worth in aftermarket ecu adaptor plate for quad throttle some stacks and some air filters that need to be enginered anyway this way the car looks clean the way i intended and the torque is alot smother than not running a filter or a pod btw the k&n filter is going in soon

cheers to every1 who likes the conversion im trying to make it look better and go faster everyday

new boot lid goes on soon with spirit wing and ill see about getting a catch can and get an idea on blow by also get around to doing a comp test see where this engines at

update i got rego so im now happy got passed with a 4age under the hood of a ke70 with 4kc on the plates and a locker and a shit load of oil leaks but i did need new tires but for some reason no1 wanted to stretch these tires if the rims where gonna be driving out of the tire place so after a fuck around got it pink slipped with 4 new tires

i also got around to installing my ajps shifter rebuild kit witch i would recommend to anyone with a t50 its excellent makes it feel new

got the car towed to diff ethnics and got the diff sorted out for a little while im gonna get a full spool and some 4.1 ratios
the backlash in this diff is really fucked so me thinks the welds are coming loose

very nice. the airbox makes it look really stock and very tidy.

qucik question. why did you go for the smallport mani when its a bigport engine?

joe

well when i used to have the old bigport manifold the tps was facing the wrong direction and the throttle body was cut and shut really really poorly so i got Sprinterman68 to make me a manifold and he cuts them under the manifold and rotates the whole top around as you can see no welds around the throttle i wanted it to look as stock as possible the bigport manifold will not cut and shut that way the manifold sits to far out from the engine so i just got myself an adapter plate made up for $60 from Sprinterman68 and put this together
worked out nice and it looks stock enough and the smallport manifolds flow air better through them so when i upgrade my cams power curve will be smother and in its current configuration it has such a smooth power curve

joeschmo_57

you wouldnt need a braided line for the drain, all you need is a fat pipe as straght as you can to the sump as it isnt pumped out it drips out sorta

pen15
21st May 2009, 10:53 PM
well the lines running to and from the turbo are threaded holes so i was just gonna do it anyway as the turbo is water cooled not oil cooled i don't really know if this is an issue with pressure on the return line but from what i can see there wouldn't really be any problem running braided to and from and i get them really really cheap lol

Just a lil FYI cause im a addict to the Braided hose god! I actually didnt use the braided for my oil dump/return line from my turbo. I used a really high temp rated hose from Pirtek. Its blue. The reason was that even though braided can handle high pressures and temps the pirtek line was better suit for the very high temp oil coming out of the turbo.

Braided can handle it. BUT keep an eye on it as it may split or wreck out from the constant heat coming from it.

BUT then again this may not happen and you probaly never have a problem just be aware of it thats all :)

is your turbo mainly cooled by water or oil as my turbo is a wrx water cooled turbo and might not be really affected by oil heat i think the oil is just there as a lubrication system but i am unsure of this will talk to my engine builder

and beau u think u are braided god im gonna make my whole car from braided line soon enough :hehe:

so what diff and gearbox are you going to run with the turbs motor?

joe

pen15
26th May 2009, 09:38 PM
a t50 gbox and t series diff for a little while
getting my g series or f series all set up with a w55 setup but gotta wait and see what happens with my turbo setup as im only gonna be running 110kws atw and apparently a t50 is good till about 150 rwkws but its not really power that kills them its torque and snapping gears under hard traction

a t50 can easily be killed with a 4ac and about 10 meters of road so at this stage its just the waiting game

an update on the jdm conversion i have done flywheel clutch gearbox and oil press gauge sender the engine will be going in tmoz then all i gotta do is clean up under the hood do my accelerator cable and clutch line then get down to sorting out my water plumbing for my heater that's about it before it goes down to golberg to wire it all up and a few other little things need to be done very excited to get it going

an update on the turbo motor i have checked the clerances on the adm dizzy to my turbo and clearence is like a glove fits so perfect i cant even believe it
picking up the motor very soon as sprinterman is almost done with rebuilding it and i have a jdm rwd manifold lined up for it just gotta modify my tvis flaps so there is no restriction but then again im gonna be a little anial about this motor as everything is brand new or beyond excellent condition

btw thanks all for the comments i appreciate it because it makes me feel smart lol

Golberg
29th May 2009, 01:42 AM
I don't think that a T50 would hold 150rwkws for long at all. 150rwhp but not kw. In all seriousness, just do it the right way first. When things brake it sucks arse, so just get everything perfect then put it in and you'll be sweet. I recon you could sort out an F-series and a W box for 2K or less if you know people. And you know me, so that's a start :P.
We can get you a diff on the cheap, and probably a box too.

All you'll need then is somebody to weld the diff mounts on for you and get an A-W bellhousing (btw only get a niteparts one, don't bother with anything else).

Do it once, do it right.

Oh, and keep up the good work :P

30th May 2009, 04:23 PM
ok last night i picked up my turbo motor and this is what it has got

-brand new gze pistons from toyota
-20v silvertop rods brand new
-7rib oil squirt block honed chemically cleaned decked
-king bearings
-42mm crank frozen balanced
-head gasket from toyota genuine
-head has been cleaned new seals and decked
-new idler bearing and timing belt

sprinterman has just finished this block and its good for 25 psi of boost but i wont be pushing that much out of it see how she goes when she goes in and the pic

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/2/8/14996.jpg

the motor will be getting a stand soon and being put away where i can slowly build up the parts i need to complete it

an update on my car atm its just about ready just a few heater hoses and the wiring and she will run then back out to sprintermans for my cams to be installed then onto a dyno for the cams to be dialed in not long till im happy with it
will get pics sometime today as i still have to do a little work on it today

30th May 2009, 04:49 PM

How much did it cost if you don't mind sharing? I'm aiming for something very similar with my turbo build...

on Friday night i went for a drive in a wagon rolla with 160 rwkws had the dyno sheet to prove and that was losing boost at about 6000rpm so as we went up the road in 3rd gutter to gutter it raised the question gearbox and diff his reply t50 and open borgi so thus the reason for t50 and t series but i will be gathering parts for an f series and a w55
im getting my rwd mani from golberg today witch is brand new and ill get pics of the motor on its stand in all its glory with both sides on it

as for the jdm build i ordered some jdm heater hoses today $170 later for 3 heater hoses ill have them in a few days then all i need is my exhaust done
oh and i have a spare front bumper witch i will be putting the oil cooler out on for the drift look and some bozo pipes may be going on next week when it goes to kirawee exhaust

Just thinking about it, really quite a lot has been done in the past 3 or so days.

Thursday - I finished off most of the important engine wiring.

Friday - Got it started for the first time

Today - Wired in immobiliser and thermofan.

Tomorrow - We'll be putting the dashboard back in, and I'll also wire the gauges, stereo & central locking.

Then my part is complete and the car leaves. After almost 3 months of being busy doing other peoples car's and other things finally I'll be able to work on my own corolla!!

What I haven't pictured is my ecu witch is an adaptronic e420c and kizen patch loom ready to go in also have the following

Whiteline front adjustable sway bar

pillowball caster rods

264 deg hks cams x2
adjustable cams gears from fidanza x2

justjap has a tiny second hand cooler I like so I'll get it soon and mount it up its gonna be all stealth and a friend of mine is making up my exhaust 3'inch straight from dump back no mufflers or resonators just a high flow cat with maby an external screamer under the front guard behind the wheel should be quiet enough

I'm gonna be using 440cc 7mgte injectors still don't know how I'm gonna be adapting speed flow fittings to my 4a rail reduces and more braided line

As for my turbo I don't wanna fuck around with water cooling

I'm hooking up my d1 style headlight strobes today so I will get pics of install and that shit this arvo

2 good friends of mine, R32 and a gze ae82 has their cars tuned their and they never ran that well, the 32 use to misfire alot and went back for 3 re tunes or something... im not saying he's crap.. im more just recommending guys ive had personal experience with... i guess i shouldnt have really said that, because ae71neo obviously was happy with his work.. disregard

pen15
3rd November 2009, 06:23 PM
na its ok man atm im just calling around and getting quotes and asking around about the specific tuning shops work as for JEM they quoted me $1200 for about 6 hours of dyno time i asked why so much and they started pulling numbers from no where and things i taught where not relative and they also asked me if i had been there before i answered "no i have not" then on came the ridicules cost
however unigroup i have heard good things i tried to call them today but hitman quoted me 400-600 for a week worth of work to it and a fair few hours of dyno time so i guess he is looking the best for the moment

Agree with Joel had car firstly tuned by Hitman and was really dissapointed with overall tune, driveability and fuel economy was very bad.

Went to Unigroup later.
Yavuz at Unigroup always talks thru every single tune he does explains everything. Spent close to an hour taking me on road drive and back to his computer showing me the all the various aspects of the tune. Car was so different to drive, responsive like ive never expected. Especially lower revs its soo smooth and linear doesnt jutter or feel slugish anymore. Fuel economy is now equal to that of my stock 07 Corolla.

pen15
4th November 2009, 01:36 PM
well i just got off the phone to unigroup and i might be able to take it to him as i have no time to take it anywhere else and he didn't give me the old ifs and ars he told me straight everything i wanted to know

sundee
4th November 2009, 02:35 PM
i can tell you right now matt, u will not have one issue with Uni group, as GEMTA22 said, thats exactly how he is, he really knows his stuff, and will explain it all to you, he will call u straight away if he finds any issues u may want to know about as the owner...

the difference between another tuner and unigroup tune on my sr was 20 odd KW less at unigroup, but freaken heck did it run, rev and go twice as well!!!

the good thing is he knows all about botching figures and the even better thing is the final value is not his aim... its not all about the wank.....

pen15
4th November 2009, 07:24 PM

hows the 1.5way when skidding? I couldnt link anything at mallala felt almost like an open wheeler. I honestly think i would have done alot better with a welded diff :( (probably standard jdm lsd).

pen15
17th November 2009, 11:09 PM
Dave there is no rear difference between a 2way or my 1.5way the only difference is that a 2way locks up harder under de-acceleration

and cork dw ill give you probs when i get back the car for its diet btw how are those steering arms coming along?
