it'll be live axle, at least they have 4-link rear end :)

does it have a w55 or a gay borgwarner box?
to lock the diff in these you have to pull the centre out cause its an enclosed centre so you have to split it, but the good thing is you can re-install yourself cause it uses shims to set the backlash and you just bolt it back in!

the wagons can look ok with a little work (use ra40 lights)

205/55 is slightly under the factory rolling diameter of 195/65/14.

Slydar, pick of the setups indeed, that why i bought it! Ill prob just grab a rt141 disc brake diff for it. Unsure of the ratio's tho compared to ra60 T series, shed some light? Tragic wagon, it is atm anyway haha.

The owners manual doesn't give it but my sources say 1150. Ill put it on a weigh bridge eventually.

22re has 10kw less but 205nm of torque, but then again a 4age + t50 + t series would make the car a fair chunk lighter and W55 and 2.4.

Have been looking at them now that you mentioned it but i realy want something that revs, maybe a 3sgte or 3tgte. Arent 3rz's single cam? They only rev to 6000 or so

japlish
6th March 2009, 10:24 PM
3rz is twin cam and would rev as well as a 3tgte (twin cam but only 8 valve!)

only prob with the 3rz is its rear sump in the hilux so you need a front sump from the prado version which is hard to find.....

Even better turbo'd. There's not a lot of info out there from what I've found though. Once I've got all the cash together it's what I'll most likely get for my pano. May only be 8 valve but damn they can flow. Only thing is I'm yet to find weight specs on them..

joeschmo_57
7th March 2009, 10:28 AM
weight for a 3rz is heavy. its a 2.7, although the tourque they have more than makes up for it.

problem is its in the states, but still it has good info.

3RZ-FE

Displacement: 2693cm3
Bore x stroke: 95mm x 95mm
Compression ratio: 9.5:1
Maximum power: 112kW (ECE) at 4800rpm
Maximum torque: 240Nm (ECE) at 4000rpm

Hmmm hardly a revving motor but thats whats to be expected. Stock rods can handle 6500 but its still nothing crazy, 3sgte sounds like a better/more fun motor.

Will chuck pics up when i get a few more goodies.

thats what was so appealing about the 2s, im not entirely sure if youll need the cross member, but everything else yes. almost a bolt in job,

ill probably end up using the w55 i have and source a 58 for the rolla. either run a basic gte gen 2 setup, or a ripe ge setup. Depends on how much effort i have at the time.

You'll need -
2S sump
2S oil pickup
2S engine mounts
ST141 crossmember
SA63 Gearbox (W55) - ST141's have a super homo borgwarner

Hi kids.

A log of todays progress -

Clutch was changed today. Probably the easiest clutch i've done. 6 main gearbox bolts, 4 gearbox stay bolts, starter motor off, unplug reverse switch, disconnect speedo cable, 4 gearbox crossmember bolts and BAM, gearbox out. 39 kilos of W55 on the ground.

We found this:
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/4/3/14642.jpg

Clutch disc worn down almost to the bolts, and hotspots evident in the flywheel and pressure plate, as you can clearly see even with my horrible telephotography.

Flywheel was removed, hotspots removed, rear main seal replaced.

Everything was refitted without any drama. Konakid painted the tailshaft 'because he could'. Gearbox extension housing seal was replaced. Funnily enough neither of the aforementioned seals were leaking.

However the camshaft cover gasket was. Well, i wouldn't actually call it a leak. More projectile vomiting oil into every fathomable corner of the engine bay. Seriously, the front of the motor is COVERED with it. So off came the cam cover. While it was off, i decided to paint it 'because i could'. It is painted in a super rare factory colour known as 'funky black'. Few have seen it and lived to tell the tale. Seriously.

End result was something like this -
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/4/3/14643.jpg

It looks quite out of place because it is CLEAN. Should look good when the rest of the engine bay gets a once over with the high pressure gun.

The final order of business was wiring up the tachometer. Fairly straightforward, after 'un-wookiefying' the wiring. I wired it up but did not secure it, as with me being 6'3" and konakid being somewhere between 5'6" and 4'2", it's obviously not going to be in the right position for him if I did it.

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/2/4/3/14644.jpg

I was going to get cracking on fitting the 'fully sick super dope pimping stereo' he has for it, but i was bemused by my left arm seemingly going to grasp something in front of me and bring it to my mouth. I looked at the time and it was in fact well past beer-o'clock.

So here i sit. Enjoy.

I buy a new battery - the fucking noob gives me one for imports with small terminals so now i have to swap my terminals over in the engine bay.

I rebuild the front calipers - now one doesn't seem to be working

New tie rod ends - i forget to chuck on the tie rod lock nut on one side, now ive lost it, need to find another one

Finally get the camber top shock nuts - need to find washers to use as spacers because its knocking.

I wire up the headunit - has power, ejects cd's but wont turn on at all, wtf.

Bleed the brakes - they still work like shit.

Needs an alignment too

i would say that after you have adjusted the handbrake from the shoes, not the adjuster under/in the car, that the brakes will become ALOT better.

Havent even chucked it into a corner yet dude, pulled a strut out today, Lawson is getting the upper hat spacers made this week to fit the cambertops properly so then i can actually drive it. After i get the brakes working, strut brace and alignment of course.

Thing is deceptively fast, has so much midrange torque its sick, would kill an ae71 in a straight line i reckon, with extractors, 4.1 and timing would probably keep up to stock 16v's. So its still slow as shit haha. I'll sort it out.

sorry to keep going off your build, but if i built a strut, using 60s, my 86 sleeves and springs (8kg), my 86 inserts, 86 top hat, an an s13 camber top, would it all fit nice and not make anything wack, ive not been able to find a whole lotta info, theres the whole ma61 mz10 stuff that doesnt make sense with all different brakes and stuff, slydar said some stuff the other day that cleared alot up.

yeah the poofters is sporting a 4.1 diff and 4/2/1 extractors, super monza racing magnificent air filter and 2.5 exhaust and it was only slightly slower than the bigport it was nearly even, probably half a car lengths difference, so they are pretty quick.

yeah troo troo, have to be a while till that happens, lost my license for 3 months, and my income is little to none at the mo, but itll happen.

car is looking fat but, its funny how wagons went downhill from the 80s so fast, i rekon get away with as much as you can without losing the original shape of the guards, its what im trying really hard to do with my keto, i think it just helps the cars 80s lines alot more

sorry to keep going off your build, but if i built a strut, using 60s, my 86 sleeves and springs (8kg), my 86 inserts, 86 top hat, an an s13 camber top, would it all fit nice and not make anything wack, ive not been able to find a whole lotta info, theres the whole ma61 mz10 stuff that doesnt make sense with all different brakes and stuff, slydar said some stuff the other day that cleared alot up.

Yeah would all fit but you need to make a new upper hat spacer because the ones to suit an ae86 cambertop are much smaller. Basically needs another 10mm on the upper hat spacer to all fit properly. Also, you will need to file out your strut tops a fw mm to fit the s13 tops.

Lawson is getting mine made up today to suit cusco s13 tops but i assume others would be the same. Will let you know a price, shouldnt be hard at all for the guy to make up another pair, id get some RCA's too while your at it, with mine at that height with 40mm rca's the control arms are dead even. Strut was cut down 70mm i think.

Fucking mint dude, took it for a quick drive yesterday, EBC greens dont seem to have much feel but they probably arent bed in properly yet, pressure is perfect though. Guess the whole system is brand new now probably why its feels sweet!

Crackwhore, no worries yo, ill ring you later on in the week about it, also keep a look out for a legalish pair of 195/55's! chars.
