24th March 2005, 10:28 AM
Heres a pic of my Oz Spec AE86..

Engine soon to be extracated..

24th March 2005, 10:35 AM
not bad, good project starter. but why spend money on extractors for a 4ac. because they will not fit a 4ag

24th March 2005, 10:36 AM
extracated as in removed

so what are you plans for this car?
what engine do you plan to put in?

24th March 2005, 11:07 AM
Plans for this car is a nice daily driver.

Throwing in a Redtop 4AGE out of an AW11 MR2

Sourced a JDM intake manifold for it and gave it a quick tidy up and new plugs/leads/timing belt/oil filter...

24th March 2005, 11:11 AM
Extractors & JDM T50 Gearbox

24th March 2005, 11:13 AM
omg that engine is so clean. did u paint it? or get it painted

24th March 2005, 11:21 AM
Yeah, I painted it, been doing it slowly bit by bit..

Hey Medicine man,

i painted my the top rocker covers on my motor, looks awesome, but i cbf doing the whole thing... its gunna be very very sweet

24th March 2005, 12:47 PM
very nice! want to sell it? http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

24th March 2005, 12:47 PM
Motor hasn't been rebuilt, just thought I'd tidy it up while it was out of the car. (Was ripped out of an AW11 MR2 getting a Black Top 20V installed). It should serve its purpose for now anyway. Next thing on the shopping list is the clutch, then I can rip the 4A-C out and bolt the engine and gearbox together and drop it back in.

25th March 2005, 03:04 AM

26th March 2005, 09:13 PM
Whens the Black top going in??? Ur lucky to have your hands on one of those! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

26th March 2005, 10:02 PM
You've misread what I wrote, The engine thats going into my sprinter is an ex AW11 mr2 engine (redtop 4AGE) the guy was getting rid of it as he was throwing a blacktop 20V into his AW11 MR2.

27th March 2005, 12:57 PM
awesome!!! it looks brand new http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

29th March 2005, 01:01 AM
i have seen this thing in person.....and it looks sooooo sexy.

we have been told that if we are to go near the engine again to bring our bibs.

29th March 2005, 01:05 AM
That engine looks the shiznit as the kids would say.

29th March 2005, 06:53 PM
What side is the slave cylinder on your gearbox??? Started motor side or driver side?

Your car looks nice, perfect donor for a 4AGE

29th March 2005, 07:01 PM
Gearbox is JDM, fork is on the drivers side. Figured I'd keep the clutch lines away from the extractors and exhaust..

29th March 2005, 07:05 PM
Cool, i've heard stories about people being sold "JDM" gearboxes for more when they aren't...

Mine don't even come close... but it all depends on your extractors i guess...

29th March 2005, 07:17 PM
Not hard to tell the difference between the 2, also the speedo drive is a different ratio..

29th March 2005, 10:15 PM
Here are the rims that are going on it, still need a bit of a polish..

29th March 2005, 10:40 PM

29th March 2005, 10:44 PM
hahaha nice, motorkahna?

29th March 2005, 10:44 PM
I'm sure there are pics around with more tyre smoke than that.. Wheres the picture of pin the tacho on the 4A-C?

17th April 2005, 06:34 PM
Finally got some time today to work on the sprinter project, tidied up the gearbox so I can *hopefully* bolt the gearbox to the engine next weekend.. (4A-C extraction coming soon).

18th April 2005, 07:49 PM
Got my flywheel machined up today for $38

Clutch kit coming friday!

26th April 2005, 08:30 PM
Got the right clutch after I found out I got the wrong one..

28th April 2005, 05:22 PM

DRFT - 86
29th April 2005, 12:02 PM
coming along nicely mate.........motor looks very tidy

30th April 2005, 07:11 PM
Todays Acomplishments.

1. Ripped the 4A-C out of the sprinter.
2. Sold the OZ Spec T50 gearbox. (Money to spend somewhere in the project)
3. Ripped all the stuff I needed off the 4A-C (Sandwitch Plate / Engine Mounts / Gearbox Mounts / Starter Motor)
4. Quick Degrease of the engine bay.

Was a pretty full on day, tomorrows plan is more degreasing of bits, getting the engine mounts on and the JDM T50 bolted to the 4AGE

Would have some pics, but my digital camera is out of action http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

1st May 2005, 07:51 PM
Gah, found out today I have the wrong throwout bearing, a million swear words would express my anger, meh!

Started de-greasing all the mounts and bits and pieces, Also need to chase up a rear water outlet before I can put it back in..

7th May 2005, 06:54 PM
Sourced my rear water outlet today and got a bit more work done on the engine.. Engine mounts have been degreased and painted. Had to modify the passenger side engine mount a bit to get it to fit (because the AW11 MR2 engines have the weird sandwitch plate between the block and oil filter). Also pulled the starter motor apart and cleaned it all up.

7th May 2005, 07:41 PM
not long now ey

8th May 2005, 07:02 PM
Anthony is the man, picked up the bits I needed today, so now I can think about getting this engine back in http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Swapped the head water inlet onto the engine today

22nd May 2005, 05:06 PM

23rd July 2005, 05:17 PM
Seems positioning was quite arsey, got it right in the sweet spot, wasn't bad for a guess..

23rd July 2005, 07:07 PM

20th August 2005, 06:38 PM
Got the starter motor bolted on last weekend.

Also pulled my finger out today and started hooking into the cooling system. Picked up a remote thermostat from the local wreckers for $22.00. (Bargin!).

Few lengths of hose and a few hose clamps later..

20th August 2005, 06:43 PM
Had to join a few pieces of hose with some pipe to get them to go in the right direction / angle..

20th August 2005, 06:45 PM
Was like a hachi lego set, just had to put the right bits in the right place.

20th August 2005, 06:48 PM
Just need to hook it up to the heater box now.

30th September 2005, 09:17 PM
Any updates on this? I wanna see the old girl getting the ring thrashed out of it again. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

1st October 2005, 05:53 PM
Yeah, pulled the finger out of my arse and started cleaning the fuel tank. Was caked in mud, managed to get it all off and resprayed today.

1st October 2005, 05:57 PM
No photos of it painted though, for some reason I forgot to get them http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

1st October 2005, 06:02 PM
Started thinking about how I was going to fit the lifter pump..

1st October 2005, 06:04 PM
Dodgy arsed stocko in tank filter.. *THROWS OVER RIGHT SHOULDER*

1st October 2005, 06:07 PM
In-Tank lifter pump coming right up :)

1st October 2005, 06:09 PM
Out of the box...

1st October 2005, 06:13 PM
Had to hacksaw a fair bit off and bend it here and there to get it to sit where it needed to, a few test fits and I made a trip to get some hose and clamps from the local auto spares shop..

1st October 2005, 06:16 PM
Sorting out the wiring for the pump will be my next step.

3rd October 2005, 12:39 PM
whats with the tampo-ooh my bad

this thread is gr8 for the diy stuff kudos

8th October 2005, 04:19 PM
Picked up a VL in-tank lifter pump setup from the wreckers today for the wiring setup ($55 later). Decided against running normal wire inside as I don't know how long it would last before the petrol chewed it away. An auto sparky I talked to said the same thing I was thinking, use the wiring out of another in-tank setup.

8th October 2005, 04:20 PM
Can drill a hole in my setup and seal the wiring connector in, should be fairly easy..

8th October 2005, 04:22 PM
Connectors for the lifter pump are already crimped and properly insulated, going to save a lot of mucking around..

8th October 2005, 04:35 PM
nicely done http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

8th October 2005, 06:00 PM
Drilled the hole through the top of the old setup for the wiring connector to go though..

8th October 2005, 06:04 PM
Underside shot of where I drilled the hole for the wiring connector to go

8th October 2005, 06:11 PM
Wiring connector installed and wired up, Assembly is ready to go in the tank now :)

15th October 2005, 06:04 PM
Got my finger out and removed the old tank.

15th October 2005, 06:05 PM
One dirty bitch of a tank..

15th October 2005, 06:07 PM
Tank converted to EFI In-Tank Lifter style ready to go back in..

15th October 2005, 11:10 PM
Far out, you like taking photo's.
I still got to talk myself into doing this to my car, lol

16th October 2005, 01:12 AM

13th November 2005, 06:18 PM

2nd January 2006, 01:56 PM
Been on holidays lately so the motivation to do anything has been very low. Ended up cleaning up the thermostat housing and putting a new thermostat in it. Filled it up with water but have one minor leak at the back of the water pump, so I'll have to rip it off and permatex the fucker next weekend.. Anyway, I have pretty much all the fuel system ready to go into the car, just need to figure out some form of bracket / mount for my surge tank / fuel pump..

Heres a picture of the thermostat housing all tidied up..

2nd January 2006, 01:58 PM
Thermostat housing back in..

15th January 2006, 07:41 PM
Well, thanks to Anthony, I have a Jap spec brake booster/master cylinder/bias valve now. Got the master cylinder re-sleeved and kitted last week..

Cleaned up the brake booster today and got it undercoated ready to paint next weekend..

22nd January 2006, 02:09 PM

22nd January 2006, 02:14 PM
Quick coat of black over the top to make it a bit more respectable like..

22nd January 2006, 02:15 PM
Also put my Jap accelerator cable in too, Is it just me, or is it in a real c*** of a place to get to?

Comparison of Aus/Jap accelerator cables, Jap one is the longer one..

26th January 2006, 01:43 PM
Well bolted my brake master cylinder back onto my brake booster first thing this morning (Yay for public holidays to get work done on the car!)

26th January 2006, 01:47 PM
Ripped out the shitty oz spec brake booster ready for the cleaned up jap spec brake booster to go in..

26th January 2006, 01:50 PM
Bolted the Brake Booster up and connected the dual circuit lines..

26th January 2006, 01:53 PM

Yep, going to do a test fit of everything and have the car running first before I go painting the engine bay. Otherwise I'll end up knocking a good paint job around to get everything right..

26th January 2006, 08:01 PM
Got some more work done on the wiring today..

26th January 2006, 08:02 PM
Bit of a close up shot.. Still lots more wiring to do yet..

Got a bit more work done today, Got the vacuum line back on the brake booster, MAP sensor mounted on the firewall and got the alternator wired back up..

1st May 2006, 05:37 PM
Haven't updated this in ages so I thought I'd mention that the wiring is nearing completion. Been slowly re-creating the loom and extending it here and there when I find spare time..

All that is left now is to wire everything to the ecu, Add a few relays for the starter and fuel pumps, A length of wire for the battery relocation and an Isolator key.

After that Its time to sort out the fuel system..

1st May 2006, 07:32 PM
Lovely work Justin, Just read through all of it and love your photo blog,
Top starf you sound like you've done this before lol http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

11th June 2006, 06:16 PM
As I am on holidays for the next 2 weeks I intend on getting this bitch running once again. Got the starter relay wired up so now it actually cranks over again. Just need to finish extending the coil/ignitor wiring, Wire the loom to the ECU and add some fuel to the equation..

11th June 2006, 06:52 PM
God dam this thing is neat. I had been wondering what was happening with it. Good to see your still at it

21st June 2006, 05:09 PM
Went out and bought some fuel for the sprinter today, Filled the tank up and gave the pump its test run. Pump is doing its job and I don't seem to have any fuel leaks so all is good so far!

Tomorrow I'll be wiring everything to the ECU, So if I'm lucky I may have it running tomorrow..

24th June 2006, 06:48 PM
Anthony picked up on one of my biggest problems with getting it running. Changing it from (AW11)AFM to (AE82)MAP I needed to change distributers (Luckily had spares). Swapped that over this morning and also found out I had a problem with my injector wiring. Dicked around for a while getting the timing right but it started.. Still bugs to iron out but you get that.. Anyone else notice that 4AGE dizzy caps have the pickup points chewed off to nothing by the rotor button? out of 4 dizzy caps I had, Only one was in good condition..

27th June 2006, 03:10 PM
Hey Medicine Man ---- I sent you a PM regarding the AFM to MAP conversion.. although I sent it while signed in under my mates account.
(DRFT - 86) sorry about that.

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated champ.

Cheers... Scott -- race4ages

Any more Progress... I gather you've been pretty busy with Teddy's Project?

29th July 2006, 05:44 PM
Been tinkering with the wiring, But still have some small issues with getting it running properly. Try start the thing, It fires up and then runs for a few moments then dies out. May need to get a hand from Anthony when he gets back from japan..

Special thanks to Anthony the other night for coming over and helping me find my problem. I thought my in-tank lifter would function like the AE86 in-tank pumps but you learn from your mistakes. Half the reason I never fitted the external pump was my inability to adapt the small fuel lines to the bigger size EFI hose. Turns out lack of fuel pressure was why the car would kick over and die out. Managed to get the fuel line adapters off Anthony and got them on today, Fitted the external pump and now the car actually runs :)

Haven't done much to this lately, Changed my job and am now gearing up for an apprenticeship in Auto Electrics. Money has been kind of an issue but at least I'm learning some good stuff that I can apply to my car when I get back into it again.

Just finished re-uploading all the images that were missing..
