Heres a pic of my Oz Spec AE86..

Engine soon to be extracated..

not bad, good project starter. but why spend money on extractors for a 4ac. because they will not fit a 4ag

Medicine_Man

Plans for this car is a nice daily driver.

Throwing in a Redtop 4AGE out of an AW11 MR2

Sourced a JDM intake manifold for it and gave it a quick tidy up and new plugs/leads/timing belt/oil filter...

Motor hasn't been rebuilt, just thought I'd tidy it up while it was out of the car. (Was ripped out of an AW11 MR2 getting a Black Top 20V installed). It should serve its purpose for now anyway. Next thing on the shopping list is the clutch, then I can rip the 4A-C out and bolt the engine and gearbox together and drop it back in.

You've misread what I wrote, The engine thats going into my sprinter is an ex AW11 mr2 engine (redtop 4AGE) the guy was getting rid of it as he was throwing a blacktop 20V into his AW11 MR2.

What side is the slave cylinder on your gearbox??? Started motor side or driver side?

Your car looks nice, perfect donor for a 4AGE

Medicine_Man
29th March 2005, 07:01 PM
Gearbox is JDM, fork is on the drivers side. Figured I'd keep the clutch lines away from the extractors and exhaust..

willy
29th March 2005, 07:05 PM
Cool, i've heard stories about people being sold "JDM" gearboxes for more when they aren't...

Mine don't even come close... but it all depends on your extractors i guess...

Todays Acomplishments.

1. Ripped the 4A-C out of the sprinter.
2. Sold the OZ Spec T50 gearbox. (Money to spend somewhere in the project)
3. Ripped all the stuff I needed off the 4A-C (Sandwitch Plate / Engine Mounts / Gearbox Mounts / Starter Motor)
4. Quick Degrease of the engine bay.

Was a pretty full on day, tomorrows plan is more degreasing of bits, getting the engine mounts on and the JDM T50 bolted to the 4AGE

Would have some pics, but my digital camera is out of action http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

Gah, found out today I have the wrong throwout bearing, a million swear words would express my anger, meh!

Started de-greasing all the mounts and bits and pieces, Also need to chase up a rear water outlet before I can put it back in..

Medicine_Man
7th May 2005, 06:54 PM
Sourced my rear water outlet today and got a bit more work done on the engine.. Engine mounts have been degreased and painted. Had to modify the passenger side engine mount a bit to get it to fit (because the AW11 MR2 engines have the weird sandwitch plate between the block and oil filter). Also pulled the starter motor apart and cleaned it all up.

Picked up a VL in-tank lifter pump setup from the wreckers today for the wiring setup ($55 later). Decided against running normal wire inside as I don't know how long it would last before the petrol chewed it away. An auto sparky I talked to said the same thing I was thinking, use the wiring out of another in-tank setup.

Haven't updated this in ages so I thought I'd mention that the wiring is nearing completion. Been slowly re-creating the loom and extending it here and there when I find spare time..

All that is left now is to wire everything to the ecu, Add a few relays for the starter and fuel pumps, A length of wire for the battery relocation and an Isolator key.

After that Its time to sort out the fuel system..

Went out and bought some fuel for the sprinter today, Filled the tank up and gave the pump its test run. Pump is doing its job and I don't seem to have any fuel leaks so all is good so far!

Tomorrow I'll be wiring everything to the ECU, So if I'm lucky I may have it running tomorrow..

Anthony picked up on one of my biggest problems with getting it running. Changing it from (AW11)AFM to (AE82)MAP I needed to change distributers (Luckily had spares). Swapped that over this morning and also found out I had a problem with my injector wiring. Dicked around for a while getting the timing right but it started.. Still bugs to iron out but you get that.. Anyone else notice that 4AGE dizzy caps have the pickup points chewed off to nothing by the rotor button? out of 4 dizzy caps I had, Only one was in good condition..

Hey Medicine Man ---- I sent you a PM regarding the AFM to MAP conversion.. although I sent it while signed in under my mates account.
(DRFT - 86) sorry about that.

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated champ.

Cheers... Scott -- race4ages

Been tinkering with the wiring, But still have some small issues with getting it running properly. Try start the thing, It fires up and then runs for a few moments then dies out. May need to get a hand from Anthony when he gets back from japan..

Special thanks to Anthony the other night for coming over and helping me find my problem. I thought my in-tank lifter would function like the AE86 in-tank pumps but you learn from your mistakes. Half the reason I never fitted the external pump was my inability to adapt the small fuel lines to the bigger size EFI hose. Turns out lack of fuel pressure was why the car would kick over and die out. Managed to get the fuel line adapters off Anthony and got them on today, Fitted the external pump and now the car actually runs :)

Haven't done much to this lately, Changed my job and am now gearing up for an apprenticeship in Auto Electrics. Money has been kind of an issue but at least I'm learning some good stuff that I can apply to my car when I get back into it again.

Just finished re-uploading all the images that were missing..
