i bought this car standard in 03. it has since been painted, lowered with rims 14x7.5", 86Kw engine conversion with microtech LT 8s computer. the engine bay is detailed using many fabricated aluminium brackets and bottles for good looks. the interior has a custom dash housing 4 guages,a shift lite and a push button engine starter. OMP buckets fitted for both front seats. front bar, sideskirts, wing and custom grille with fog lites make it look different to your average 86. All the work done to this car was done at home in the garage by me. i call it a Screech Autoworks project.

little has happened in the last month aside from blowing my last welded diff and getting defected.

yeah craigy, defected again! this dopey cop recognised my car from a previous pull over, and was unsuccessful in finding anything wrong,

i guess he wanted a second chance. got me for no rear seats or belts, and bald drivers side tyres. its all good ill clear it up and try to get another diff for the next twlight night.

all s series (aus spec) diffs are weak as piss

T18 is the easiest way to swap in a bigger diff

sorry again indi about the mess up with the other diff.

oh! on another note, im making 5 2" aluminium steering wheel spacers at work. for aftermarket wheels, if you dont have enough clearance between the wheel and indicator, this will solve the problem before you snap and indicator stalk like i have. they will be ready soon and more can be made, ill try each one on my own car first before they sell to make sure they are OK. $45 + p&h.

Thats okay dude. I'm getting a higher ratio ring gear for nothing now so alls well that ends well http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/cool.gif I wouldn't have been able to have the car ready till I get back from Queensland anyways because I have to pick up a tailshaft. I think the guys gave my car a bit of a thrashing on the way to your place and back though http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif my engine that was already on its last legs sounds like its about to die.

i just put a Exedy heavy duty in mine about 4 weeks ago, it feels the same (pedal weight) but this one dont slip.

i got it for $300 from a mechanic mate in narellan. (clutch pressure plate and thrust bearing)

caps
20th May 2005, 11:35 PM
hey steve when you put your new clutch in did the pedal get harder and also did the travel distance in the pedal increase..
because i just brought the same clutch and i havnt put it in yet and i am just curious on what it will be like to drive..
oh and does any one know how you can tell wether it is a heavy duty or standard because the one i pulled off my car looks the same..

p.s it is a exedy as well..

ta ta kris...

screech
21st May 2005, 12:49 AM
the pedal felt exactly the same, it was not harder to push. but the friction point where its starts to grab changed, mine used to be right at the top if i rested my foot on the clutch it would slip. this one is nearly half way down in pedal travel and has free play up top. while they would look the same the diff between a standard duty (SD) and heavy duty (HD) is the stronger pressure plate.

a HD pressure plate provides more clamping force on the clutch plate but not so much that it becomes harder to push through our hydraulic clutch systems. you get the hard pedal feel when you go into the ceramic puck, brass button, multi plate competition type stuff. i think they are a little over board for our humble 4AGE's

An Exedy clutch can be identified by the SD or HD after the model no.
mine is a TYK-6319HD toyota 200mm sports clutch kit

ok then. as long as it works.

i just finished fittin my T 18 rear end now, and im not so happy. it works fine but the standard ratio is not 4.1. its not even 3.9.

ITS 3.7 !!!!

after doing the same measurement to the s series, the s came out at 3.9, while the T is around 3 and 3/4. that means less acceleration, more top speed.

im chasin a TA 22 diff centre to rectify this prob.

thanks mate.

I went drifting last nite at Oran park twilight nite, i was having a good session when the guy who runs the event approached me and told me that he wants me to battle another car for 4th place.

(they are picking 4 people from each practise nite to go into the masters 16 eliminations battle on June 24)

i asked the guy who he wanted me to battle. he turned around and said 'the black mazda RX-7'. it was a series 4 RX7 convertible with a 13B turbo with about 200 -250 at the wheels.

i led first battle and linked the whole track, but i heard his BOV going off and it sounded like it was inches from my car. the second lap was a shocker for both of us, nothing special here.

i was told that during the first lap i was very sideways while the RX7 was trying to overtake rather than drift behind me. i was also told that we were very close to having an accident mid track.

i was announced the winner of the battle for the 4th spot in the masters qualification, did a massiv burnout on track and left a very happy boy.

i will have pics within a week, (i brought my photographer along last nite) he said his film has to get done in sydney, so i wont see the pics for a week. when i get them ill post em up. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

im spewin, the pics from the drift day did not turn out good at all. wasnt too happy.

anyhow, i went looking for a sponsor today. got nowhere. they all seemed interested in putting the sticker on the car but none wanted to supply parts in return.

it must be the new style of sponsoring,

"ill give it to you at cost price" is what i got every where.

thats not sponsoring, thats what you do for your mates. there is one business left to reply to my request, i wonder what he'll say?

thank dude, the only reason it looks good is because i had no license at the time of the engine swap. otherwise it probably would not have been changed at all! let alone detailed, its amasing how much money i did not waste while not driving around.

and speaking of engine swaps, my dad called me at work today. he old me that he had a present for me. he said

"its big, heavy and has toyota written on it. it also has 4 cylinders, 16 valves and red lettering on the cam covers."

his mechanic gave him a red top 4AGE for free. am seriously considering working the hell out of it (NA of course) and dropping it in to mine.

im gonna keep it NA until such a time that i become a good enough driver to handle drift at over 150 km/h (that is if i ever get there), then ill need a turbo to keep the ass end out.

but only then will i boost it.

i wanna show people it can be done without boost. this motor i plan to make about 150 rwHp out of it NA on pump fuel, 200 is achievable with a little more work but itl need race fuel which is very impracticle.

mr2drift
6th June 2005, 11:38 AM
bah 200 rwHP is NOT achievable n/a you.ve been lied to.... not on any fuel

screech
6th June 2005, 06:38 PM
im not trying to brag but it can be done, i know a guy who could do it, but i dont have the finance to fund such an engine. ill give a hint, it might be a 4AGE but it may not necessarily be 1600cc and any pump fuel wont sustain very high compression rates. this friend ive spoken to was a race engine builder, and was offered a job on a formula 1 team.

take my mates motor for example. he built a silver top 20V that produced 239 Hp at the flywheel on an engine dyno. the motor is not yet in the car though.

however i see your point. it is a rather high number for an NA motor, but ive been told by this person who i trust that he could do it if i wanted to. but as i mentioned before it would be very impracticle.

mr2drift
6th June 2005, 09:04 PM
it would NEED to run non pump fuel and rev Extremely high to get 200 rwhp. this has been covered many times elsewhere. the BEST 4a based motors in the world make 240-250hp FLYWHEEL and cost over 30,000 dollars to build, AND need rebuilding every 1500-2500 km's. 250 Flywheel is not even 200 rw so dunno who this guy is but hes done the impossible...

a 7a based engine can make 260 ish hp but still a very expensive option. for practical use 210 215 hp at the flywheel is the most you can achieve, that is unless its for a show car that runs once in a blue moon...

meh end rant..

How'd you find a locked S series diff go? was it good on track? round town? also i've heard that it can snap axels easy. I've been thinking of locking mine till I can get an LSD rear end

caps
23rd June 2005, 07:56 PM
do it. do it

its very fun but you gotta be carful where you drive iv had mine locked for a 3 months or so now and it is still going strong..
BUT id recomend a l.s.d

screech
23rd June 2005, 09:49 PM
between myself and my mate, neither of us have ever snapped an axle. they are perfect as before the locked diff. i have worn out 1 S series centre and munched another, zach on the other hand has munched three of them.

as caps said they are fun, a little tricky in the wet, but an LSD would be a lot better.

my last locked S lasted about 2-3 months before it chewed itself up in less than a day.

i now have a locked T18 rear end and it is coping a lot better than the S series, all it needs now is the 4.1 ratio from a TA 22 or RA 40.

3rd July 2005, 03:12 AM
ive been up to my usual shit again people, trying to make something that i could just buy from a shop somewhere!

met up with this other guy on the weekend, he also had an 86 and said he had heaps of spares, so i asked him if he had a set of quad throttles i could buy. he actually said yes, quite to my surpise.

so i now have a set of quads and am in the middle of making new linkages because they were missing. i used linkage levers from a RS turbo liberty throttle body for the accelerator cable to pull which is linked to the linkage arm in between the 4 throttles. its very simple but effective and wont give me that hard pedl feel that the standard linkages can give in 86's.

so all i have to do now is go about designing an adaptor to bolt it up to my engine. then the quads will be fitted. ill keep an update going if any1 is ken to see how this conversion goes.

its been a while people since i last updated things.

since the fatz day my car has gone down a little, savage wheel alignment issues wearing 4 different wheels with the sluggish response of a 3.7 diff wearing taller than normal tyres.

and to top it off the day i got the alignment fixed, i snapped the left tie rod end coming down the local touge road. took me an hour to drive home limping it at 30km/h with the left wheel rolling free to point in any direction. have replaced the snapped arm since but am now awaiting a glorious moment to bring my machine back from the slums.

bring on the tax return!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/cool.gif

with my tax return, i plan to do the following.
- fit new upgraded front and rear suspension
- fit new adjustable front and rear swaybars.
- fit 2" 4 point harnesses
- get new exhaust
- if im lucky get an adapter to fit my quads to my engine.

screech
7th August 2005, 12:00 AM
nah its not really being lucky, its all about who you know and what you can do yourself.

i just fitted the GAB shocks front and rear and the RSR springs, it sits a little higher than berfore now. the front and rear sway bars are in and doing their job nicely.

i might like to add that the adjustable sway bars from whiteline are NOT installer friendly. their design for the adjustments are large and bulky and do not fit to the car properly. i was dissapointed with whiteline when i tried to fit these product with two black squares for pictures as installation instructions. ill try to get some pics for you guys on this.

the harnesses are in and will get certified soon and am chasing up parts to construct an exhaust system.

with these new suspension parts the car is handling so much better than before
