My red 1984 Toyota Sprinter was completely stock when I bought it and not a lot has changed apart from some unplanned body realignment http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif

Before.....

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~indimc/mypic26.jpg

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~indimc/mypic27.jpg

My first time on the track.....

http://www.initialdrift.com.au/gallery/albums/upload/events_20050115/IMGP3911.JPG

Then tragedy struck... someone ran into when it was parked.... http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_7.gif

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~indimc/mypic46.jpg

It was written off by the insurance company but they sold it back to me for $1000 after paying me the insured value. Almost all fixed now though, my little brother and I did a lot of the work ourselves which was kinda fun. Its going to MFX on Tuesday to get the MFX front bar and vented guards I bought fitted.

This is the bar I'm getting....

http://www.mfx.com.au/prod/images/ae86bar.jpg

and the guards...

http://www.mfx.com.au/prod/images/ae86grd.jpg

then I just have to get them painted, not sure whether I should paint the new bonnet I got or leave it looking dodgy (blue and primer) until I get a carbon fibre one which will hopefully be in the next month.

I had planned to modify the diff and suspension first but because of the accident the bodywork became the more pressing issue http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif I'm looking for a T-18 rear axle at the moment and I have a Cusco RS 2-way diff waiting to go in once my car is back on the road.

My car is sounding much happier at the moment. I got my carby overhauled yesterday and got it tuned. I dont have to keep my foot on the accelerator to keep it idling anymore w00t http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/cool.gif It feels so much better to drive now. I cant wait to take it to Queensland (BTW Kris we're going in my car now http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif ).

I especially cant wait till I get back from Qld with all the bits to put in my LSD. Then I'm hoping I can get all the unpainted bits painted, take Steve up on his very generous sway bar offer, and hopefully my new carbon fibre vented bonnet will arrive all before 18 June so I can take my baby out to the IDA Eastern Creek skid circuit day. Hmmm will have to get a move on with suspension too. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/5/4/536981.jpg

indi
15th June 2005, 11:24 AM
I dont know, I've heard so many different stories about what you're supposed to do. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/huh.gif I did a few very low speed figure 8s (like <10km/h) out front of the place where we installed it to work the oil through, then went around the block at about 40km, I didn't take it over 60km on the way home then took it to the empty carpark where I did more figure 8s for about 15-20mins. And yeah it did look pretty funny but no-one complained because we weren't doing anything wrong, just driving around an empty carpark. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wacko.gif

Figure 8's just make the break in process a lot quicker. Instead of 300 k's of light driving with lots of left and right turns. Just 20 mins of figure 8's. Drop the oil. Put some decent shit in and go thrashing.

Ummm actually no, John has a Bride seat he just puts it in my car for me whenever I'm going to the track. Hmmm I wonder if that's meant to be a hint http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

At the moment half of my car was his, the rims, suspension (yay its not a boat anymore), front disc brakes, seat, bonnet all came from his car. But I have to give the seat back once his new suspension arrives.

I get the feeling he's planning to do something else to my car too but he won't tell me what, he's been having secret little meetings with our friends and last night he and my brother locked me out of my room so they could discuss something in secret http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif

Okay a quick update on what's happening with my car. I'll post some pics later.

We all got sick of the multi-coloured/primer look on the front so armed with a box of cans of gloss black spray paint Screech attacked it last week and I have to say he did an awesome job and gloss black on a hachi looks HOT I'm thinking about doing the whole car now http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

And the secret is out!!!! The surprise that Steve and John were planning for me is sitting in my garage a GZE!!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/ohmy.gif Now we just have to get someone to pull it apart and put it all back together again and find all the bits needed to put it in my car! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/cool.gif Definately looking forward to that!

In the meantime I've been thrashing the car at every available opportunity (only on the track of course!). I want to learn to drift as much as I can with my current setup as I believe that there is a benefit to learning in an underpowered car because you have to work harder to make it drift rather than just relying on the car's power and setup and will ultimately make me a better drifter.

Here's a sneak preview of some of my new pics...

Now thats a good attitude!

It's still at the workshop, with the luck I've been having with hachi's lately I think I'll be scared to drive it once it's finished http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/7/5/4/536981.jpg
