Go the old japanese rule, rims can never stick out to far, just compensate by running narrow tyres and the sidewalls angle will match the flared arches and it'll be perfect then http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

looked at some parts the other day, will be in my possetion very soon, they consist of:-
2 x TRUST TD05-16g turbos ( a spare is a good thing)
1 x Trust external wastegate
various sized intercoolers ( will pick best for my needs)

should be 2 weeks and these goodies will be prepped for insertion into the pink machine,

but first we are going all out with the n/a setup just to see how far it goes.

swapping some better extractor (thanks mummblezzz) and gonna spend a few nights on the dyno to see what we can pull from it before heading down to oran park next weekend, then if necessary we will go the dreaded turbo option...

stay tuned for updates as they happen.

I saw u on trackside today... Your doing an excellent job!! I feel you about the lack of power though... It was hard for u to get close to the leading cars although u had a higher conering speed...
Although i love the quad throttle NA setup... I think turbo would make the job much much easier...
Still...it would be sad to see another hachi switch teams to the turbo squadron.... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

not yet the car is at the dyno as we speak and im only gonna go there because ive absoloutly exhausted the perfomance potential of the n/a setup....

not like every othe *&%^er who goes turbo cause the cars NEED it. its bullocks until you compete in speeds and level that is now national level. i would stay n/a for any other purpose, but pro level comp use way too big a tracks...

street, and club ie IDA comp and QR days n/a is heaps....

I'm putting one of those snail things on the side of my 4A in a while.

It sucks when you have to start from a standing start in a drift comp against some 250kw nissan junk and they drag your ass to the first corner. You can always catch on them with a fast entry and slide, but when you're already 8 car lengths behind and especially most of Australia's large drift tracks, it makes it difficult.

With that more power and torque...you'll absofuckenlutely cream.

exactly most tracks DA is going to use are large layout high speed tracks. i know into and thru corners i have the speed, but when the distance is 8 to 10 car lengths just because of a straight line race, its gay.

just picked it up from the dyno, and there may yet be hope for n/a goodness. the differance is amazing. it has 35 - 40 hp more right through the middle of the revs from 4500 rpm all the way to 7500 rpm. so much more tyre frying power. will see how it performs at oran on saturday. mmmmm oran.....

YAY for n/a love an n/a 4age over a turbo anyday let us all hope this new power is enough. But if not then do what you gotta do.... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sleep.gif

well the engine now makes approx 170hp, but the guy i am now using has a few more mods to do and says we can reach 200-215 fairly easily, if this is true then n/a will be how it stays, so we will just see with a little time. but the turbo setup is going to be developed alongside the n/a setup, just in case.......

went very well at oran over the weekend indeed! ended up third, and had a blast sliding alongside beau in his turbo 20v car. its definately possible to be competative to the highest level on tracks like oran with an n/a setup. will be going all the way with the n/a before canning the idea, its just so much goddamn fun! dunno if someone has mentioned this already but, in DB there is a picture from the rear drivers side showing the rear corner of Josh's car with the caption saying that "Josh chose to keep the Australian tail-lights" but you have the zenki levin ones on (fullface).

also, in previous HPI videos they get mixed up with their definitions of what a levin is and what a trueno is. they thought that if it was a 3 door hatch ae86 it was a levin and if it was the 2 door coupe version it was a trueno.

whats with these guys? do they do any research before sending out these mags/vids, or do they just make up shit all the time?

besides that, the latest issue of db is good, your car looks mint josh.

i'd prefer n/a myself, but simple fact is, not fast enough on the big open aust tracks we race on, if it was mountains or *cough* street *cough* or small tracks like oran parks driftland, then n/a would be the way it stays, but on bigger tracks its just not enough..... i'm spewin too....

i would prefer n/a too but it just doesn't cut it here in australia with our wide open roads we need some power!! even on darlington park i could go full throttle most everywhere and thats fairly tight compared to QR.

its pretty cheap if you give it a go, before the rebuild started, when the car was yellow, i had never sprayed a thing, and welded once, now i can do both fairly well, and gettin better all the time, the turbo manifold is only 130 bucks worth of steel, and a weekends woth of measureing/cutting/welding... way better than $1000 for a custom made one from a shop.....

well, after much hassles and stress on my behalf, the car is finally done. MASSIVE thanks to ADAM from Just Engine Managment in sydney for helping more than could be asked of any workshop, and his patience in sorting things out in a hurry for this weekends event at Oran Park.

Adam knows exactly what we do with the cars in drifting, so after some in depth discussion while the car was on the dyno last nite, a power figure was reached and a tune made, then across the board 3 degrees were pulled from the maps to leave us a safety margin for thrashing the hell out of the motor!

Even so with the HYBRID boost controller set on low, 9 psi the car turns the rollers to the tune of 134 RWKW, but even better is the High setting of 12 psi, the car turns the rollers to the tune of 154 RWKW !!!!! brief test drives last night prove that even the low setting is way more than enough to smoke the hell from third gear, so high will be something i leave until ive had a bit of practice with the car as it is now.

Many thanks to the following for making this rapid( 5 weeks from pull down to complete) conversion possible....

Richard from Trickweld in nerang
Adam from Just Engine Managment (JEM)
Mark from Banzai Performance on the gold coast
Chris from NANKANG australia for believing and supporting right through the build.

Hopefully i can adapt in quick fasion and get a very good result at oran park this saturday, but regardless, i reccomend for anyone to come and see the days events, they promise to be HUGE!

Just a quick comment on this to clarify http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

AE71 was full body, full interior.
Turbo kit is Blitz, using a small K24 thats actually used on Starlet 1.3ltr kits and was running only 5psi anyway.
Engine is a 200,000kms old 100kw 4AGE which is still going fine
Management was by an untouched, untuned 4AGZE ecu
Suspension was king springs rear with regular not-at-all flash kyb shocks
front had coilovers from my carina with too hard spring rates that led to understeer.
car had not even been wheel-aligned until last week (its actually been re-shelled to combat a large rust problem)
Driver (me) had about, ohhhhhh 20 minutes familiarisation with the car on the drive to darlington.
Its one saving grace were the tyres being pretty decent.

So as for being faster, well I actually spent all sessions after the first one staying behind you to film you remember http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif so I'll just say they were pretty even instead.

Sorry to hear about the bottom end failing, want to borrow a 200,000km old NA motor to use? lol

yes now with that snail looky thing u can smoke da wheels n rip sik skids yo! looks good, a quick way to test your bearings is
step 1- take out spark plugs and nominate a cylinder
2- turn the engine over by hand untill the piston on the chosen cylinder has gone past top dead and is on its way down
3- before it hits bottom dead get a long screwdriver or other tool that will fit the hole and push the piston down. If it has a bit of a free space gap then your in the poop

OK heres the final diagnosis of what we think happened at the DA round last week to my engine.. long story..

When we assembled the engine for turbo use, we did not touch the bottom end as it was presumed to be strong enough with the setup already in place, however when we put the sump back on from having the oil return plumbed into it, we noticed that the oil squirters in numbers one and three had broken the tips off, and could not find a reason why.....
during the day at oran last week, oil temp guage went through the roof and i stopped, then noticed the bearing knock in the engine and thought that the oil had gone to water and id therefore spun a bearing. We put it then down to bad oil.... BUT now the car is reassembled we have a differant theory...

Oil temp guage reads off the scale always, so the sender is broken, but thats what stopped me last week. we now think the clearances on the old crank were suspect to begin with and the turbo high comp setup just sped up the engines already begun demise. So result of the execise is that i now have a new crank and some trd rods inside, with bearing clearances of just 1.5 thou across the board ( thank god we tracked down a new 100 kw crank over the weekend thanks NATHAN) and we are in the process of sorting out the guage. car fired first crank last night after running on the starter for a few mins to get oil pressure up, and sounds just as insane as before, so now it is time to let the fun begin and lets go INDY!

LOL ran it at willowbank drags, still with the left over tyres from the winton DA round, and not a single change to the suspension or anything, spun all the way through first and second gear no matter what i tried( even running just 15 psi in rear), but still managed a 13.2 at 108 mph.......... funny shit

Hahaha thats funny as!

In febuary next year there is going to be some dori at the 4,6s & rotor nationals at AIR in Adelaide. I think they plan to do some head to head drag runs with the drift cars. I've always wondered what some cars would pull down the 1/4 mile.

All I know is that when i'm tandeming with a 200+rwkw SR in my 70rwkw 4AGE, they manage to get to the first corner like 100 meters before I do http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

yeh we may waste the time again sometime late in dec or early jan, as in a few weeks we are retuning the computer and boost settings, changing from low:9 and high:12 psi to low:12 and high:16. we might go to the trouble of softening the rear and putting on some sticky rubber, to get a real time just to impress the bogan eliment....

took the car up the sunshine coast yesterday to see a guy about a roll cage!! *wink wink* with the new diff gears in it ( have gone back from 4.6:1 to 4.1:1 ) the car is stupidly fast, and much quieter, those gears were tooo damn noisy. one the highway i can report phenominal fuel economy also, quite astounding, using just half a tank to do 370 km's!

id say more the fact it was running at about 2800 rpm and not even struggling with the load, when thrashing, the car is lucky to get 250-300 from a tank, but at crawl pace on the highway sweet as....
