Nice looking car there champ. Wheels look like SSR reverse mesh rims, look on the wheel and see if you can see SSR in the centre or on the inside of the rim. If not AutoStrada do a almost exact copy of those rims. there should be a name/badge somewhere on them http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

we had a look on the insides of these rims and there is nothing.

i dont think there was any kind of badging. not even an offset number http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

Yeah, I removed all prinstripes myself. It was a teadious but very worthwhile task http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

The car looked a billion times cleaner after they were removed, and the "granny factor" dropped a million fold http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

Yeah, Andrew is right, we couldnt find anything on the wheels to tell what brand they were. No sticker, no embossed text, nada. Kinda a shame too, cus it kinda annoys me refering to them just as 14" mesh rims instead of (insert brand name here) wheels http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/happy.gif

Haha, yeah clean is my forte http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

I'd prolly cry if i had to drive a bunky Sprinter http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sleep.gif

Like a friend of mine bought a couple cheapo bunky Sprinters and dropped a 4AGE in one. He loves driving in his rusted bucket with an engine.

But there's something about having a factory showroom'ish condtion Sprinter that makes me good. It's prolly all the comfort of options and working bits http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/happy.gif

Either that or the fact that hes a Takumi wannabe, who knows http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

YES http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Well I'm trying to restore it back to it's original condition. So far everything is going well. It's as clean as it ever will be till a new engine goes in. Then while it's out of comission with a conversion, the interior will all come out to check for any rust spots underneath and removed http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

So yeah, hopefully after I'm done with it, it'll be like new.

Well after a long while of procrastinating and generally being damn lazy, I've finally decided to post up pics of the my car as it is now http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

After having my car for over 3 years now, it was till this year that I managed to gather enuf funds for an engine conversion. Thus finding myself a low km (~77,000km) JDM RWD 4A-GE with gearbox and complete loom for ~$1500 locally, I was quick to snatch it up http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Having not done an engine conversion myself, I was rather scared of the proceedings, but once started, everything came together rather well and easy.

Below are some of the pics I took during the process of my car's tranformation http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

The conversion:

Well that's it for my conversion process. It all went rather well IMO. It only took about 10 days for the whole conversion over a sum of 5 weeks (only working on weekends and most of the time hungover http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif). All and all, it was a good learning experience. Being rahter a novice to the mechanics of cars, I learned a lot form the process. The entire conversion was done by me and a couple of friends that helped along the way. Cheers guys, you know who you are http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Anyways, that was all done like 2 months ago, and as of then, it's been a small chore making it all neat and tidy. There have been no major dramas since the conversion, as it has been very reliable, except that its eating more fuel than it should http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif Other than that, the engine is a winnah, and I LOVES IT!!!

In the first post are some updated pics of what the engine bay now looks like as well as some small new features and specs of the car.

Hope ya like it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/happy.gif

Next up is to replace current leaky waterpump, and upgrade to electric fan.

Then JDM fuel tank http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

But that'll happen after I finish my studies for the year...so not long now http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

After that, I'm quite happy leaving it as is for a while. But knowing that, I'll prolly start hoarding suspension parts and wheels when they pop up.

Hahaha, you also forgot about time I make getting drunk and shit http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Yeah, I intend to so a bit of stuff to my car these holidays. But depending on my funds, we'll see what happens. But first thing would prolly be a radiator shield and prolly some heat shielding. Then fix up some things like my broken water pump, upgrade to electric fan and better suspension http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Funni enuf it still is working away quite well O_o

No problems overheating, no more random leaking of coolant. But yeah, I'll do that all when I sort out an electric fan setup. Still undecided on either switch or thermostat setup.

Aight, so I converted to an electric fan a while ago, but haven't bothered to post up pics. Then tody I decided to change my fan again to a more quieter one.

So here are some pics of both processes.

*click images to see larger version*

...Stage 1

Removed clutch fan..
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/964.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop059.jpg)

Find electric fan at the wreckers. I think this one was out of a Ford Laser, I can't remember atm...
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/965.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop062.jpg)

Mount the sucker!
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/966.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop072.jpg)

The on/off switch..
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/967.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop075.jpg)

Relay diagram...
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/91460.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop080.jpg)

The relay...
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/91461.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop078.jpg)

Then its all done! Thought eh setup was a success, the fan was really noisy and it got really annoying http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

...Stage 2

Remove old noisy fan http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/968.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop081.jpg)

The new fan. I was told this was an AE92 fan.
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/91465.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop083.jpg)

New mounting tabs were made...
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/969.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop093.jpg)

Mounted with success..
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/970.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop097.jpg)

Another angle...
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/971.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop099.jpg)

Well the whole thing was a great success. The new fan is a lot quieter, and is barely noticable over the engine and exhaust.

Big thanks go out to Matt for helping me install the first one and wiring it all up for me. Also big thanks go out to Andrew for lending me the new fan for now http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/happy.gif

Next up on the list, new water pump!!!
(It's already been ordered, so hopefully this week)

Looks really nice man. Always like a clean engine bay and omg I love the GT-APEX seats http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

When I first finished my 4age conversion I hooked up a switch for the thermofan, but I would always be turning it off when I jumped on a highway and then forgetting to turn it back on when I stopped at the next lights (blew many a radiator hose...). It eventually got to the stage where I just hardwired it so it was on at all times, uses a bit more power, but gives a bit more peace of mind, and doesnt seem to effect airflow when moving.

I'd suggest either hardwiring it or getting a thermostat for it, popping a headgasket would not be fun...

Oh and another thing, spray those cam covers fool!

Edit: Another thing I just noticed is you are using a different ignitor module to me... (I have a JDM engine too), is there a difference between the 45-Jr and the 155-Tr?

Cheers,
Kev.

Haha, yeah. Well I always have the fan on anyways, cus I CBF'ed turning it on and off all the time. The only reason i have it on a switch is to get the engine to warm up quicker, then I turn on the fan.

As for the cam covers, yah I'll hopefully be doing that this week when my water pump arrives. Just so I don't have to keep making the same trip to the shops many a time.

And as for the ignitor module, I have no idea. I didnt even know there was a difference O_o

Also today, I'm gonna try make me some shrouds. Gonna make me a radiator shroud and a heat shroud for my distributor. Wish me well. I'll post up pics when I have them done http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Well another rather productive AE86 day today again http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

I made myself a radiator shroud to direct more air towards the radiator as well as a heat shield for my distributor.

Here are my pics of today labour...

All that needs to be done now is to cleam them up and probably paint them or polish them. ATM still undecided.

Painted valve covers a week ago, but only got photos up today.

Here's how they ended up:

All covers pained up with fresh paint

After having letters shaved and the final product
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/983.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/ResizeofDevelop154.jpg) http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/984.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/ResizeofDevelop155.jpg) http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/985.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/ResizeofDevelop156.jpg)

In the end they ended up pretty nice and I'm happy wid the whole little project. Id suggest everyone to do them, they're easy to do and make ya engine bay look soo much better http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

hey I like your work, have you thought of spraying that heat shelf black? it would look good either way I guess it just depends on your taste.

Beserker99
6th April 2006, 09:46 PM
Haha, yeah spraying it black would be a wise option http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

But then again, I left it as is cus of the bolts and things that I come out of the car are dark coloured. So the natural aluminium was left so I can easily find bolts and screws faster. See there's method to my madness http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

Either way, it doesnt bother me. I'll prolly make a newer one later down the track. The aluminium I used for this one is rather thin, and it bends easy. I've managed to make a few dents from tools and such, cus of their weight http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

Those JDM style number plate lights look good, i was thinking of doing that myself (until i get redlines http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif ).
How did you fill in the holes on the rear bar?

Beserker99
30th August 2006, 03:34 AM
ATM, the holes are just covered up buy black duct tape http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

Even in real life its hard to spot them out wid the tape over it.

But later I'll fibreglass underneath and bog up the holes http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tup.gif

OK, so it's been a while since I updated this thread. Not too much has changed, but little things here and there are now different http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Here's what's been done since I last posted....

TWIN CORE RADIATOR

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/1031.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop368.jpg) http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/1032.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop367.jpg) http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/1033.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop369.jpg) http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/8/3/1034.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Beserker99/My%20AE86/Develop/Develop373.jpg)

My car has always has some kinda overheating problems. So to fight that I gots me this wickid cools JDM twin core aluminium radiator. SO far so good, haven't had any overheating problems yet. I also replaced the radiator hoses, just because my old ones were kinda cut-up form the numerous times i had to remove them to fix my leaky water pump.

<div align="center">----------------------------------------------------------------------------------</div>
That's all I've done soo far since my last update. Hopefully soon will get more stuff done to it as I now have a proper job and all now HAHAHA

Where is the love?

Back on topic: Nice work there Berserk. I was just wondering did you take any measurements when putting the number plate light on? So if I had a jdm 86 next to yours, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

I actually borrowed a friends redline centrepiece to get the correct spacing for the rear licnese plate light. I made a template, but in the end didn't keep the template, cus it was made out of A4 sheets of paper http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

ALRIGHTY THEN! New update finally to the car http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

A few days ago got my new exhaust system made up. It's a 2.25" stainless steel (painted) 4-2-1 system, from factory headers. It's got one resonator in the middle, and a Lukey muffler at the end with a 2.5" long tip. It's pretty much a straight through system, that's been copied from the TRD N2 of back in the days.

The car preforms a lot better now, its smooth as silk to drive compared to what it used to be. Though one drawback from the new system is that I have lost all of my low-down power from my old exhaust. BUT, new system has a very good mid-range kick in the pants, which makes up for the lack of low-down power http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Well enough talk, hers the pics of it all.
