Hey guys...

i have been seeing a few ae86s now with bonnets that go up vertical, anyone know the pros and cons of this? is it hard to do... where would i mount the bonnet stand, do i just bend the stoppers in the bracket, or is it just whole new bonnet hinges?
if i was putting the bonnet up and a gust of wind came would it just fold back and slam on my windscreen?

any help would be apprieciated...

its as simple as removing the small little tags on the hinges, tho apart from a little more working space on the engine it can be risky, shane bingham has gone thru 3 windscreens, countless tubs of bog and roof, all because of this as he has fogotten to put in his bonnet pins.... its something u can do, tho i woudlnt recomened

you'd wanna make sure you have a safety catch to stop the bonnet from falling backwards in case of the main bonnet restraint letting go.

either way, you'd only wanna do it on a fibreglass/cf bonnet as the factory one is fvckin heavy.

It has it's advantages for a race car. You can lift the motor out with the bonnet still on, etc. Working on the engine would be a bit easier, especially around the back. Also with a short bonnet stay near the back of the engine it keeps the entire front area open to work on. It may be wank factor for some, but I can see it's plus side.

yeah i agree i can see it as an advantage for a track car
but i wouldnt do it for the "looks"
id do it for the advantage of being able to work alot easier on the car

I'd rather spend the extra minute or two and just remove the bonnet all together to get the engine out..

if you really want wank factor make the bonnet open forwards, absolutely useless for working on the car but hey it'll be different and all your friends will be like http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/blink.gif

ever had a bonnet fly up because your latch failed? forward opening bonnets don't do that http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

forward opening bonnet attached to front bumper and guards that are snap locked on however is awesome. If you want to work on the car the whole front end's panels and bonnet comes off in under 10 mins.
