In a couple of weeks Im probably going to buy a Power steering set-up that has been offered to me...(I really dont appreciate the heavy steering in my 86, due to 8" front rims, smaller steering wheel and about 4 turns lock to lock - dissapoints me actually) http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif

Now I was keen on the idea of a Quaife quick rack system, but then got a little discouraged after hearing about how heavy they make the 86 steering.....

but, Power steering should even this out shouldnt it...... would be alot more managable 1 would think....correct?

does anyone see any problems with this set-up at all....??
also, can someone say approx, how many turns lock to lock this would give.......

cheers.

I dont think the power steering arms makes the steering any lighter, it just gives you more lock.

....not power steering arms'.....''power steering''
as in a power steering system, (pump and whatever else is associated with it)

i think the rack shaft is slightly shorter, but this will make no difference as you will have the 2.5 turns lock to lock quaife shaft

you will have more lock from the arms, and lighter steering from the power

should be sick!!

I have a Quaife quick rack 2.5 on mine and is a little stiff when you first go to turn. Why don't you just try the quaife first and than put the power steering on if you don't like it?

speaking of heavier steering.

Does a mag with a negative offset make the steering lighter? like 15inch 10+ to an 15inch 7-

nah, I really want lighter steering... not sure you understand how heavy it is right now... for a small car its ridiculas...... plus the power steering set-up is being offered for a cheap price.... then I will save for the quaife rack for the quicker steering.........that way I get the best of both worlds....... as PS + the quickrack would even themselves out....
not to heavy - not to light - just right! - and no not special K

I think I have found a problem..............'

just looking at the workshop manual, and looking at the differences between manual and PS set-ups........

I dont think the quaife pinion will be able to be used with a power steering set-up as it is different and wont accomadate the quaife pinion...
(I dont see any problems with the quaife rack though)

can anyone confirm this...?

I may just grab a quick rack by its self after all.

cheers

to get better lock you can substitute the power steer arms for manual arms, and vice versa for manual cars use power steering arms

You wont regret it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif , but if you want lighter steering lift weights http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

haha,
yeh Im pretty sure the benifits will far outweigh the ..ahh added weight to the steering..

{no pun intended}

I think thats a good reason to start pumping tha weights again...lol

The steering does feel a lil heavy at parking speeds at first... but after a lil while i cant even feel it... u just get used to it... and the steering becomes so alive.... ask D1 Spec... i took him for a spin in my quaife rack'd hachi...
My verdict is still the same... fkn awesome...!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/cool.gif
