Hmmm, everyone is entitled to their own opinions of course. And it is of course aesthetically debateable. Hell I use to hate GT wings on anything til they grew on me.
However it does serve a very functional perpose being at such a height when runnign high speed. Drifting it probably is irrelevant (unsure about that as around corners they are sideways but D1 drifitng does hit almost 200km at times). I believe even at times Keiichi attached a GT wing on top of his ducktail for certain high speed uses.
Far as I know for full functionality of a wing at all aerodynamically; according to the diagrams I have seen a wing needs to be around this height, close to the highest point of the car (roofline) and most of the other wings that are often less than a foot off the bottom of the hatch/boot do nothing at all functionally unless it is angled very far backwards.....
Correct me if I am wrong.
I remember seeing a Cosworth Sierra like wing on an ae86, and all everyone does is laugh and say it reminds them of an ironingboard.....and not think outside of the square....

Everyone hates being called a ricer (something that merely adds to the looks and does nothing functionally - debateable definition).

Saying that something such as a high GT wing looks stupid and laugh their azz off and not look at the fact it may be quite functional and aid alot.....
isnt that to a degree being "ricey".. or "reverse-ricey".... I dunno the term to use.

[I'm being serious here, so try to respond serious and not just flame]

A big arse wing is going to be pointless on an AE86, most people will be spending more time sideways drifting, a Ford Cosworth on the other hand will use a wing like that for downforce on the rear at high speeds..

true I guess...
but it was a japanese auction, and they do have N2 racing etc there....

They aren't just fully sik, they do work on the aerodynamics of the car.
In drag racing, these wings create drag making the car heavier, but cornering at fast speends helps stabilize the car.
