It will be interesting to see how they represent the drift culture overseas, I think the director should of learnt by now that misrepesentations of the car culture will earn him much abuse/scorn if he doesnt get it correct. Should be a interesting movie to watch, I didnt actually mind the other two, didnt like them that much but were watchable. Will be interesting to see also if our fabled and most legend AE86 will make a apperance in some form, although i am thinking that they will be leaning more to the newer style cars myself.

in this adrenalized new story, set in the sexy, underground world of Japanese drift racing, the newest and fastest customized rides go head-to-head on some of the most perilous courses ever seen.

Maybe someone should make them aware that the "underground" world of drift in japan does not have cars that look like they are from autosalon, rather .... they all mostly have panels with mismatched paint, dents etc. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

I don't know if you guys are thinking along the same lines but I seriously am feeling another wave of interest in the 86 far greater than that created by Initial D, should there be an 86 thrown in somewhere along the story line. Will be just dandy won't it...... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

A loner at school, his only connection to the indifferent world around him is through illegal street racing - which has made him particularly unpopular with the local authorities. To avoid jail time, Shaun is sent out of the country to live with his uncle in the military, in a cramped apartment in a low-rent section of Tokyo.[/b]

sweet, the more people who see it think they can be driftkings and take their car to the mountains to do too-gay work, the more cars will end up going off the side of the cliff, and the less people there will be to quote stupid cliche americana lines from the movie.

oh and wankers in VN's already know about drifting, the sports already been 'ruined' (note: i dont consider this to really be true, the only way it will live is through publicity, whether it be correct or incorrect publicity is the question here!) and the only thing you can do is continue to drift, drift, drift.. because sooner or later the try-hards will give up and leave the sport because they cant afford it or they just lose interest, leaving the track to the real die hard enthusiasts http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

the thing im most concerned about here is the fact that this movie will make the sport a helluva lot more known, and if its all 'underground' then its gonna be a pain in the ass for drifters with road reg'd cars: from the movie, some police will be educated in the art of drift and drift cars, and will soon be pulling you over looking for drift related mods referring to you as some underground street drifter, even though at the time your grandma's in the passenger seat and your taking her out for some lunch...

Where do i start here.................

Firstly VN,s. I dont like them much, BUT drift isnt about using only japanese vehicles champ. Look at all the japanese drift cars over there and pick the ones you normally wouldnt see being drifted......... Nissan Clues, JZZ30 Soarers, Datsun Sunny Excellents, etc etc. FFS there was a Dodge Challenger that turned up at one of the D1 meetings.

Tony with 50MAN here in QLD (VN), just took out first place in the QLD round of Driftnats. What I hear you say? Yes he beat ALL the japanee cars including self promoted people like Vahoumis, Good drifters like Jerome Kennedy, Mick Tlyer, Danny ADD, Jeriaus, to name a few. HE beat them fairly and squarly in a VN commodore. And you know what? There was not ONE Pro class driver that didnt think he deserved to win.

Secondly, Cops picking on road registered cars used for drift because of the movie? Already being done mate, everytime you go out. Despite popular belief most cops dont gain there "knowledge" from the movies champ, otherewise there would be renegade cops running around everywhere Dirty Harry & Mad Max style..............

The movie will prove to be interesting. Yes they will screw it up from a enthusiats point of view, but at the end of the day its just a movie, nothing more, nothing less...........

THE-86: I don't know if you were referring to me with the comment about Tony?

But I wasn't referring to Tony a.k.a 50MAN..I already know he can drift. I'm talking about the wankers that don't go to the track but instally when they see these movies they feel the need to go out and buy monster tacho's and neons to be "cool". Then they attempt to do what their dream cars do..Drift.

Stupid movie, I'll still go see it out of interest. Can't wait to hear all the stupid comments when I leave the cinema.. "I want neons".."I want NOS bro" And the one promoted by need for speed undergound games..Heard many a time "I want a 240sx for my first car"

Note: And I know that some people with VN's buy monster tacho's cause they are shift kitted auto's..But still what's wrong with the single shift light and using the stocko tach.

Meh, fair enough for the ranting people.

I questioned a "wanker" on his monster tacho one day cause i also pointed out the fact that it was an auto. I got the response "becuase i need it"... anyways, beside to point.

I dont think they will put a hachi in the movie. there will be some hondas and a mitsushitty or somthing but will probably be 180's, sylvias etc. Its going to be a shocking movie but all the fuss will blow over soon enough. The fact of aussie cars drifting is inevitable (and welcomed), it can only help if more people show up to drift days to drive, besides what are you afraid of? A little competition?

cops arnet the problem, the general public is... who do you think is going to take all the kids to the movie. they will be able to tell which cars are for "drift racing" now http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

Okay, i'm all for drift getting popular and everything, BUT not like this. One of the things i liked about drift is how underground it is and that everybody that is into it and does it because they like it and actually found out about it on their own credit and interest and not from a mass produced movie. The people who do it at the moment do it because they enjoy it, not because it's cool... well it is... but not because it's the "Cool thing to do"... if you get my drift...

I don't mind watching VN's and fords or any car giving drift a go, but i will mind people like the homo's on that ACA movie that was posted on here. that the difference, it's not the cars it's the people that are going to worry me

and an 86 isn't in the movie... i'm writing a letter... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

they were a HUGE part of drift herritage... Keiichi Tsuchiya started in one... Tanaguchi started drifting in one... they STILL compete in D1, you CAN NOT denay it, they play a BIG part in drift...

and if you have ever seen D1 at night (ie the new subtitled version of the old d1 round just done by jdm option) you'll know that the d1 cars at night are lit up like chrissie trees! they even have orange safty tights in the back of some 86's! it's awsome! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

YES, i know of 50MAN, and NO im not paying out on people using domestic cars! ALL THE BETTER i say!

also, because of this movie, drift modifications not seen on the average "street car" will most likely become more popular, the amount of street drifiting will increase, thus more attention to the "GODDAM STREET DRIFTERS" aka you and me, most which i hope have no actual intention of dumping clutches or pulling handbrakes on public roads..

As a previous owner of a auto V8 Falcon, If the car is driven hard or modified in any way (like mine in both cases) you will need a tacho. Despite havin a stage 1 shift kit fitted, the C4 changed well before the peak RPM.
I had a 2 1/2" tacho fitted on the dash because the standard "sports dash" tacho was crap.

Although monster tacho's are a bit of a wank on most cars...

It's simple, the guys and girls will go drifting in their commy's, falcons and utes or what ever,
Who cares, I'm not going to give a toss what anybody thinks, i drive an AE86, and i'm dam proud of it, why, coz i've built it up from nothing. I'm going to drift it on the track because it's a shit load of fun.
I give respect to the boys who spend big bucks on a VN or XD, if it goes hard so be it,

But think of this, Did you drive your almost stock car around with a set of rims and the performance hardly change? did you try drifting a car with stock susp? did u put a pod filter or some other cheap mod to make you feel better about modding your car because you don't have a millon dollar buget? Most likely.
Everybody starts somewhere, cars just don't come factory ready for 9sec passes or mega drift angles, they get built over time, from stock.
and the first mod a guy or girl might do to his or her car is buy a gauge or a neon, it's thier car, building it how they want! And they can drive thier car how they want. Nobodys ordering you to drift your sprinter and leave the drags to rotors, no!

Sorry, had to get that off my chest Cars are personal.

if people take up drifting as the new fad, then they're only about 1 or 2 years behind the rest of us. Bandwagon jumpers bring in sales to companies, which means more investment in products and a larger range for us to choose from.

Besides, if you're smart you can avoid the branding on the street by the public, the drag racing wave's come and gone, now its time for drift to be whored up. Pucker up boys http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

True... I agree with you.... but when you are not into drifting and are into conventional grip racing (I love grip http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/ph34r.gif ) and are always bombarded with questions like.... "Do you drift?" "Oh an 86 you must be a hecktic drifter!", the image the sprinter brings upon you is one that may not be favourable or to your liking.

An image that may reach new heights if and when this movie does come out.

The way I see it, the AE86 fanbase is already bad enough as it is, and a B grade movie on street drifting isn't exactly gonna make a difference. Don't think it'll affect actual owners of AE86's much anyways, as I think the movie will be pushing cars from the financers that are currently available for sale.

SEEKING MALE ACTORS (any ethnicity) and JAPANESE FEMALE ACTRESSES both must be able to play High School role for:

“FAST AND FURIOUS 3: TOKYO"

To Begin Filming in Tokyo and LA on September 12, 2005

Finn Hiller Casting (Crash, Coach Carter) is seeking male actors of any ethnicity for the lead in the Universal Pictures feature film, “Fast and Furious 3: Tokyo." The film is about an obsessive street racer named SHAUN who is exiled to Tokyo after annoying the local police once too often.

SHAUN is treated like an outsider and mocked for being a gai-jin, He is drawn to the subculture of drift racing, a dangerous and sometimes deadly sport that he masters with startling speed. In the process, Shaun makes a deadly enemy and meets the love of his life, Tani.

TANI is a stunning Japanese girl who attends the same school as Shaun in Tokyo. When they interact at first, she dismisses him until she realizes that he is an obsessive street racer as well. Chaos arises when Shaun finds out that she is in fact D.K.'s girlfriend (the “Drift King" of Tokyo). Shaun enrages D.K. by challenging him to a drift race, while at the same time forming a friendship with Tani, which eventually evolves into a forbidden romance.

INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS
FOR “FAST AND FURIOUS 3: TOKYO"

Thank you for your interest in this project. Following are the instructions for putting yourself on tape to be considered for a role.

Go to www.finnhiller.com to access the lines for the appropriate character.

Please follow these simple guidelines for taping:

1. Write or type your name clearly in large letters with a black magic marker on a piece of paper that you hold in front of you when you begin. Also, please say your name aloud so we have both correct spelling and pronunciation.

2. Please use either mini dv or 1/2" VHS tape in NTSC format. If possible, enclosing a Polaroid or other photo is helpful (unfortunately, neither tape nor picture will be returned).

3. Do a quick camera test -- stop and watch the tape. Make sure the camera has recorded with proper lighting and sound. (We do receive tapes that have no sound or improper lighting.)

4. Next, please record a full body shot so we can see what you look like from head to toe. (Usually the widest setting on the camera or get further away from your subject.) Please also show us a close up of your face, as well as profile.

5. When taping, the camera should be centered on your face, showing some of your neck and shoulders. Before starting the scene, please state you name, age, height, weight, ethnicity, and where you live. Please feel free to move comfortably when you're speaking. We want to see your personality, as well as your acting ability.

6. Make sure the tape is labeled with your name and contact information. Again, labels should be printed clearly or typed. It is also good to include the project name and date.

7. Lastly, send the tape to: “Fast and Furious 3: Tokyo"

Tapes should be received no later than July 30th, 2005.[/b]

A loner at school, his only connection to the indifferent world around him is through illegal street racing - which has made him particularly unpopular with the local authorities. To avoid jail time, Shaun is sent out of the country to live with his uncle in the military, in a cramped apartment in a low-rent section of Tokyo.[/b]

Anyone else notice that this story is sort of similar to the story of Initial D? Oh and id say that there will defilinty be AE86 in this movie, most likey a panda Trueno http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif. And of course there will be dickheads that go out and think that they are the drift king, but does that really matter? Means there will be less dickheads on the road http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

heh, there's a preview of the script for the casting calls... it mentions Initial D (the manga, not the anime) and wait for it...

one of the races is between a MX-5,AE86, 350Z (evil boss dude) and a Silvia (Hero dweeb dude).

The script's so corny though, and all the cars in it are available in the US (surprise surprise). Except maybe the Silvia, dunno if its an S15 or prior model, most probably an S13 as it seems to be portrayed as a beaten up car. No skylines, no V35's... booooo.

mentions a "battle damaged Hachiroku" in a race

If I was an american I'd be buying up every silvia I could find, they're about to skyrocket in value as the boy racers want to start drifting "like the JayDeeYem dawgs yo... tyte!".

Fast and Furious 3: Tokyo Casting Call
Source: Finn Hiller Casting
July 9, 2005

Finn Hiller Casting (Crash, Coach Carter) is seeking male actors of any ethnicity and Japanese female actresses leads in the Universal Pictures feature film, Fast and Furious 3: Tokyo. The film is about an obsessive street racer named Shaun who is exiled to Tokyo after annoying the local police once too often.

Shaun is treated like an outsider and mocked for being a gai-jin. He is drawn to the subculture of drift racing, a dangerous and sometimes deadly sport that he masters with startling speed. In the process, Shaun makes a deadly enemy and meets the love of his life, Tani.

Tani is a stunning Japanese girl who attends the same school as Shaun in Tokyo. When they interact at first, she dismisses him until she realizes that he is an obsessive street racer as well. Chaos arises when Shaun finds out that she is in fact D.K.'s girlfriend (the "Drift King" of Tokyo). Shaun enrages D.K. by challenging him to a drift race, while at the same time forming a friendship with Tani, which eventually evolves into a forbidden romance.

Reevise (Aka Twinkie) is a fellow classmate of Shaun, who is the first to befriend him in Tokyo. He too is car-crazy and drives a Nissan S15 Silvia. Initially Shaun is rude to Reevise, claiming "he doesn't need friends", but soon they develop a friendship as Reevise tutors Shaun on Japanese culture as well drift racing.

The third installment, to be directed by Justin Lin and produced by Neal Moritz, starts filming in Tokyo and Los Angeles on September 12, 2005. The script was writte by Chris Morgan and Kario Salem.
