Why you choose to own an ae86? how did you come across with your 86?

For me, coz I like to watch initial d so I wanna own one http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif besides, mainly becoz its rwd, and building a pretty 20v 4age ae86 is relatively cheaper than building a pretty SR20 turbo S13.

firstly it was initial d comics then the vedios when I was in high school about 7-8 yrs ago, but I couldn't afford to buy one after I had my licence, then after a few yrs of owning a few cheap fwd craps I felt so sick and saved up some bit of money and decided that I must have to buy a RWD car.
I started to look at some 86 and FC3S but the 86 were almost in the same price range with s13 nonturbo, and FC was absolutly out of my price range, after looked at a few s13s and ae86s and found all ae86 at my price range were so crap and also my gf hated it so I bought an s13, and after a yr and a hf of owning the s13 and feeling depress everytime driving next to some turboed silvias, I decided to sell my s13 and go back to 86 as I don't think I can afford insurance of a turboed import(s13) and also the cost to maintain a turbocharged car(both FC and S13 turbo).

well thats what my story is. and now I bought one and started building it.

my old man used to be an engineer for a rally team... one of their cars was an AE86 http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif that was my intro to it. Then there was seeing it on some drift vids I saw back in 96/97, then came initial D. Then I started working for an importer, so when a cheap AE86 cropped up I thought I'd buy it, and if it was a lemon I could still put some takumi tax on it and sell it off. Turns out it wasn't a lemon after all.

Don't have one yet. Was out at Morgan park watching a mates dad race..There was a sprinter with a 4age racing. I liked the look of it, I'd seen a few before but didn't really take too much notice of the shape or driftin ability http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif . Then I got my first initial d episode my brother bought me for christmas. Now I want one with the panda colour scheme http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif Not just cause of Initial D but I think the colours look good together,

saved up for years to get my turbo sr20det silvia ks, then i thought i'd better go to uni cos all wasny goin to good lifewise. had to sell silvia cos of insurance, and not being able to look after it properly (no car port/garage) little time, and becuase it was such mint condition that i didnt wanna risk crashing it. i barely even took it over 4000rpm http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif
so after missing my silvia badly! i wanted a performance car and was doing a lot of research. then i came across the hachiroku, never even considered one! and it seemed to fit the bill. i also wanted to try an NA car and also because i love jap car culture, so even if i wont be drifting or racing a hachi when i get one, i will enjoy it because of its 'cult status' and i hope it will be a fun little car http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Had always like the look of sprinters even back when I didnt know what they were.
Had been looking at a few different cars 180sx, silvias, Rx7, supras, civics, but then decided on the sprinter cause there are hardly many around my area and I wanted something different.

Only watched one episode of Initial D after I got the sprinter just to see what the it had made the sprinter be so apealing to others but didnt like it

Mine came from imported jap dvds.. I used to watch the angry truenos slide around tight mountain tracks and loved it. and then I found out that australia got a version of the levin. I bought one and luckily had a 4age in it, but I never got it on the road. So i sold it and bought my black one, which was a show car when I bought it but turned it into a corner monster. Sold that for my current one, which is getting an awesome suspension setup. Initial D is amusing but I couldn't care less if the trueno was on it or not... I loved it from jap mags and dvds. Besides.. I prefer levins.

Cheers

My flatmate had one for ages and i liked it, but i really wanted a starion as a drifter... neat nice little rwd turbos, light, etc etc, people think they are ugly but kitted up they look like baby 180's... however, parts availabilty was a problem... with 86s you can interchange a few parts from other cars, for starions you couldnt, and reamed if i wanted to wait forever for parts.. so i settled for the 86.... plus, they are hot little cars http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif
i have a pic of a starion kitted up ill have to find it and post it up...

there was one for sale in my home town. i noticed a few around before that. we rode past it one day (the one for sale) and had a look, looked under the back, RWD! did a little research.. decided it was something i wanted to try. red adm one, offered at 2900, ended up giving him 2100, that was in 99 im pretty sure.

put a 4ag in it myself with the tools i bought from super cheap after the engine arrived on a palete.

only saw initial d this year, i have seen every episode now though.

onto my 2nd.. 3rd and maybe 4th to come soon.

I got my car through Initial D. No not a fanboy, I originally watched the show cus of the RX-7s and the touge.

But when came gettimg my license, I didnt have enuf monies for a decent car. So a cheap sprinter came up and it was mint as. So my parents got it for me as a prezzie for graduation.

Been driving and loving it ever since http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/happy.gif

I was looking for my first car, originally at ae92 hatches, then sprinters caught my eye. I looked around for about a year and a bit before I found one that I liked.

I love driving it! The steering response is so direct and it is unlike any other car I have driven. So much fun. Though now the car has big power, you certainly dont need bigpower to have fun in an ae86. It is more about the feel of the car.

i dunno how i got into them, but my mates rekon back in school i was always raving bout them for some reason. the reason why i like them now is that they look really cool and they are the last RWD corolla, plus the 4AG sounds farken awesome so that helps.

they usually end up costing way more than you first think to make into a decent car but the fun they provide more than out weighs the expenditure.

my original car was a beautiful ke55 corolla liftback, also known as "really adjective hard to find", but after a few years of paddock bashing and hailstorms it wasn't exactly rwc condition anymore. neither was i for that matter, having lost my licence for 2 years.
towards the end of those 2 years i decided to look for a new car.
it had 3 requirements:
rwd
5-speed
sexy liftback

i'm sure you will all agree that the sprinter fits these requirements quite well, so i bought one.

btw, if anyone knows of any of the ke55 liftbacks '77-'79, please tell me, as i would very much like to buy another one
thanks - Dwayne

edit: yes, i like initialD just like everybody else
