As posted on toymods:

Hey guys, not long ago, I picked up a 1983 Toyota Sprinter (AE86) from QLD. Pretty stock standard, had some coilsprings, 4AC with a leaking head gasket, 400000 k's on the odo.

When it arrived in VIC I noticed in the glovebox it had some paperwork, didn't really take notice of it, as I wasn't too fussed with the history as it was getting a new engine to become a track car.

But over the long weekend I was slightly bored, so I went thru the old user guide and the service logs that were in it. At around 275000 km the car went in for an engine recondition, but wierd enough it wasn't for a 4AC engine, it seems this car used to have a 4AGE.

In any case I've found the names of two of the previous owners in the reciepts, and am curious to find out who it was and why they changed the car to a 4AGE and then back to a 4AC.

The car used to be blue before the last owner gave it a good dousing of Aerosol black to try and hide the paint blemishes.

The names of the previous owners that I can find are Grant Harris of Schofields, NSW who originally purchased the car in 1983 from Stewart Car Co (3000 Kingsway, Caringbah, NSW).

Then there was Mark Calvino of Beacon Hill, NSW. He was the one that did the engine recondition.

The final contact I have is the person I bought it from in QLD, who I doubt will know much about the car's engine and its intricacies.

Anyways... some pics:

Thought some of you guys might be interested in the history of the car, or just to know how much an engine reco cost back in 1995. Maybe the old owners or their relatives might be on this forum...

why would someone go to all the trouble of installing a twincam then removing it to reinstall a 4A-C ?

on a 4AC either. But I'm glad I got it with the car http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

the coilovers, rear disc brakes, t18 diff, the bottom lip for the front bumper, and latemodel headlights all came with the car... I was doin somersaults when the car was delivered, coz I thought for $650 I was gonna get an absolute shitbox.

to see if it had the jap spec type number plate lights or rear bar but its seems from that pic that no, it is weird why someone would take the twincam out n why it was there in the 1st place.

heh, that's why I wanna track down the old owner so I can find out too. Rear had regular aussie numberplate n surrounds, I took em off because I was casting it (lil project with resin). No idea about the rear bumper though, looks the same as the one in the aussie Sprinter sales brochure I've got.
